[08:06] dates are out for FOSDEM 4&5th February === thejetset is now known as BenChapman === BenChapman is now known as thejetset [08:23] cztab: is that still in brussels? === thejetset is now known as BenChapman [08:24] always is [08:24] never moves [08:24] fosdem is always i brussels i think [08:32] always in brussels thats a bit prohibative for everyone else [08:32] fagan: not really [08:32] it's their event [08:32] FOSDEM now in it's what 12/13th year [08:33] fagan: how's the job search going? [08:33] slashtom: well im on trial at a web dev place in carlow called t2 [08:34] first day today [08:34] good stuff, hope it works out well [08:34] slashtom: yeah me too the place seems nice :) [08:35] fagan: oh finished at canonical ? [08:35] czajkowski: yep 2 weeks ago at the end of my internship [08:35] czajkowski: couldnt really find a full time place [08:35] didnt look at any of the current jobs they have ? [08:35] you're dev right, lotta dev roles [08:36] czajkowski: yeah most of them are experienced roles [08:36] czajkowski: so like 3 years + min [08:40] fagan: congrats on job. [08:41] And (this goes for everyone here), apply for tech jobs even if you don't meet the requirements. [08:41] indeed [08:41] companies are usually desparate and can ignore them. Especially small companies. [08:41] I'm starting one I've never done before [08:42] on wednesday [08:42] czajkowski: yeah what im doing is php ive never written a line [08:42] its easy enough though [08:44] also, more tech jobs in dublin. [08:46] ebel: yeah I was thinking I might have to move [08:46] but dont have to at least not yet [08:47] carlow ain't far. ireland is small. i know someone who commuted from kilkenny to dublin for a while (but i wouldn't recommend it) [08:47] ebel: yeah but if you think about time spent communiting I wouldnt really love that [08:48] and it works out more expensive unless you own your own transport [08:48] and even then [08:48] yeah, you shouldn't commute that long. [08:48] ebel: going to UDS ? [08:48] Morning people :) This channel is busy now :O [08:48] i'm just saying it's not like you have to emmigrate to america and never see you friend/family again ☺ [08:48] but the craic is mighty in dublin [08:48] what's UDS? [08:49] czajkowski: erm, hadn't planned on it really... or occured to me [08:49] BenChapman: I dont think ive met you yet :) [08:49] slashtom: UDS = ubuntu developer summit [08:49] fagan: Probably not... though I was thejetset until this morning :) [08:49] slashtom: big week long ubuntu conference & meeting with people who make ubuntu [08:49] ebel: yeah I was thinking of moving out of the country too [08:49] bah [08:49] ok, ebel is out of holidays though - damn .au visit [08:49] meant fagan going to UDS [08:50] czajkowski: nope not this one probably the next one. Needed to focus on making some money first. [08:50] fagan: you realise that ireland is one of the best places in europe for tech jobs? [08:50] slashtom: well its still less than the US so I was keeping my options open [08:50] if you want to say goodbye to employee rights etc [08:50] fagan: oh I thought you would have applied given working there for the last while [08:51] czajkowski: nope didnt but said id try get to the next one [08:52] cool [09:45] fagan: how did your internship go overall [09:45] fagan: possibly on day 1 you really shouldn't be on IRC you know [09:48] tdr112: good good had a load of fun and learned a lot so was a good success [09:48] and was helpful so that was an extra bonus [09:48] czajkowski: yeah its on in the background not really distracting [09:51] fagan: good to hear , what sort of dev did they have you doing [09:56] tdr112: well I was more doing the testing and some code review and all that [09:57] everyone was pretty busy so I was doing a good bit of smoothing of what they were doing as much as I could [09:57] ebel: did you get on ok with the hosting issue ? [10:02] fagan: good stuff , i would like to learn more about testing some time [10:03] tdr112: follow the ubuntu friendly program [10:03] ah..... [10:03] haven't look at that yet [10:05] it's well worth knowing [10:06] an getting involved in it [10:06] plus also shows people how to test [10:07] tdr112: well most of the stuff I did for testing at canonical was running them and testing in real life. The guys have tests for everything to test all of the programs so it was pretty easy to report bugs.
