jmarsdenlamberto: No one can know if they can help, until you describe the problem :)  So ask your question, and see who answers.01:58

ubot5Information about using and setting your computer's clock on Ubuntu can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuTime - See https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/NTP.html for information on usage of the Network Time Protocol (NTP)04:23
dunis this the right place to ask questions about lubuntu?05:44
Unit193Yep05:46
dunI am curious about wireless detection in lubuntu on an older laptop. I know the idea is for the OS to be compatible with older hardware. i jsut started and install for the second time and both times it has shown as it is not connected to the network. The catch is I have it hard wired, as well as a secure wireless network and an unsecured network in the room where this is taking place.05:52
Unit193Can you access the internet though? If it's an unknown device, you should be able to find what it is with     lspci    or    lsusb    typed into the terminal05:54
Unit193!wireless05:55
ubot5Wireless documentation, including how-to guides and troubleshooting information, can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs05:55
dunsweet thanks for that link!05:55
dunNo I have not been able to access the internet in lubuntu yet. But I have had success in other variants of linux were the wireless networks are detected. I am wondering if lubuntu will see the networks or do I need to point it at them?05:59
Unit193You will need to connect the wireless one06:00
Unit193It should "see" the wireless as long as the router is set for broadcasting (As yours is)06:00
dunPerfect that is what is was hoping to have some light shed on. Thank you!06:02
Unit193Are you connected yet? What type is the wireless model?06:03
jmarsdenMight be simpler to get the wired connection working first; then, you can use it to get any extras you need to work on the wireless NIC.06:05
silverarrowhi06:12
silverarrowanyone awake?06:12
silverarrowI have had some kind of hd crash06:12
silverarrowand I have lubuntu on my hard drive06:12
silverarrowlubuntu have acted odd lately06:13
jmarsdenEven Lubuntu, great though it is, has a hard time booting off a crashed hard drive!06:13
silverarrowmaybe not the best term to use06:13
silverarrowhard drive should be all right06:14
silverarrowI scanned it with ultimate boot cd, and it came of all right06:14
dunI am up and running now with the install complete. I just configuered the wireless network although under the network icon in the taskbar both wired and wireless are grayed out. I am wondering if I still need drivers for both.  I will check on the wireless model i am pretty sure it is a broadcom.06:14
jmarsden!b4306:15
ubot5Help with Broadcom bcm43xx can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx06:15
jmarsdensilverarrow: Then... you need to describe the issue in a way that will help us understand it :)06:15
silverarrowyesterday lubuntu didn't shot down properly. When I shutting down, the regular boot down menu would not appear. I got "child process would not respond" or something like that06:16
silverarrownot I get "not hd detected"06:16
silverarrowno*06:16
silverarrownow*06:16
silverarrowsorry06:16
silverarrowno hd detected*06:17
silverarrowa bit unusual isn't it?06:17
jmarsdenSo when you boot the machine, exactly what do you see?  Do you see a GRUB boot menu, or does the "no hd detected" happen before that?06:17
dunbroadcom bcm306 is the wireless device, the link looks promising06:17
silverarrowno grub, just a lot of red text, either "no os detected" or "no hd detected" it sort of varies on attempts06:18
dun4306 typo06:18
silverarrowI'm not sure if red text is lubuntu or BIOS though06:19
jmarsdendun: Ah, good, that makes more sense.  And then yes, the info in that link should be what you need.06:21
jmarsdensilverarrow: Can you take a picture of the screen (with a digital camera) when it is in that state and put it online so I can see it?06:22
dunjmarsden: i now need work through the info within the provided link, I'll check back when I get done.06:25
dunthanks btw06:25
jmarsdendun: Cool.  I may be gone by the time you come back, 11pm here... but come back anyway, I leave the machine logging this channel.06:25
silverarrowjmarsden, getting camera06:34
jmarsdensilverarrow: OK.  I am hoping seeing it will help me know which it is, BIOS or GRUB...06:35
dunright on . pretty late here...might be quite some time, but i will be back.06:36
silverarrowback in a few minutes06:39
dunDriver is installed and now the wireless device is recognized. Big thanks, I am well on my way now. Until next time!06:55
jmarsdendun: Good :)06:55

AmberJHello11:53
AmberJIs lubuntu going to be official *ubuntu (canonical supported/sponsered) distro when 11.10 comes out?11:54
head_victimAmberJ: it already is official. You'll find daily images on the Ubuntu image server.12:03
AmberJhead_victim: I'm using lubuntu 11.04 since it was released. I'm sure it got much better than the last release...There are a few kinks that I seem to notice very regularly12:07
AmberJ(?)12:07
head_victimAmberJ: what sort of kinks, have they been reported as bugs or can I help you accomplish that :)12:07
AmberJyea, all are already reported12:07
head_victimCool, well hopefully they're being worked on then :)12:09
AmberJok thanks head_victim :)12:12
head_victimYou're welcome, feel free to sign up to the mailing list so that you can keep up to date on how it's all going12:12
leszekhi12:18
m6lockso hai guises12:43
m6locksi got this small problem i'd like to ask about12:44
leszekm6locks: just ask12:45
m6locksis there like a way to hard-reset keyboard using command line? my eeePC got some cola dried up in it and it gets this periods where ISO_Level3_Shift is turned on, and all I can type is greek/whatever characters12:45
m6locksalt + sysrq + r does not work12:45
m6locksxmodmapping iso_level3_shift does not work either12:46
m6locks(before that issue happens)12:46
m6locksi can use the system correctly for some time before i'm stuck with that ISO_Level3_Shift, hard booting the system helps, but I was wondering if I would not have to reboot the system12:48
leszekm6locks: this seems to be a hard problem to fix.12:52
m6locksi've been googling madly, but so far no luck12:53
rezbdbacklight supposed to be dim when laptop running on battery, but it's not.12:59
rezbdI wounder did I install Lubuntu 11.04 properl? having problem with some applications and matters. or there are bugs.13:25

silverarrowis there a way to see if file checksum is correct in lubuntu?14:28
IdleOnesilverarrow: you mean for the .iso?14:41
silverarrowyes14:42
IdleOne!checksum14:42
ubot5To verify your Ubuntu ISO image (or other files for which an MD5 checksum is provided), see http://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM or http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows14:42
silverarrowwell, it is not exactly like usual14:42
IdleOnehmm lets see if we can find the lubuntu checksums14:42
silverarrowI am in lubuntu, which is my main os these days, and I have burnt a puppy linux cd14:43
IdleOneok14:43
IdleOneso want to verify the puppy checksum?14:43
silverarrowyes14:44
silverarrowbut I get this following the ubuntu guide http://imagebin.org/17295614:44
IdleOnelook on the puppy site they must provide checksums so you can compare14:44
IdleOnenot sure why you are trying to mount /dev/sda14:46
IdleOneread the "Checking the CD directly" section on the HowToMD5SUM page14:47
silverarrowI'm just copy and pasting from a guide lol14:47
IdleOneguides are just that, guides. They are meant to be read not copied verbatim14:48
