=== akgraner changed the topic of #ubuntu-leadership to: Topic for #ubuntu-leadership is: Welcome to the Ubuntu Leadership Team - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuLeadership | *REMINDER* Vote for Ubuntu Leadership Meeting poll at - http://www.doodle.com/f955yyub63n24nha - Poll Closes on Friday, September 23, 2011.
akgranerI'm adding comments to a few of the documents...just want to make sure we keep all the references straight and the tools easy :-)13:36
akgranerI am loving the suggestions and lists - you all are AWESOME!13:37
akgranerI'll also be putting the handbook in an actual book format  - (Same format we use for the official ubuntu book) then I'll send it to team members to edit with explanation on how to do so...:-)  (This way you all learn how to edit should you be asked to help with projects like that :-) as we are always looking for new tech reviewers and stuff)13:39
akgranerso if you already know what we use and how to add edits then it's a win all the way around13:39
akgranerYoBoY, hey!14:09

akgranerremember it is just starting out so it isn't formated correctly and it's a very rough draft14:14
akgranerI'll work on format this week14:14
YoBoYok :)14:15
head_victimakgraner: don't worry too much about localisms, we all do it. I have to keep toning down the ocker in me.14:24

ashamsHi ppl14:30
ashamsI need your opinion14:30
ashamsI know it's a weired idea14:31
ashamsit is not related to leadership project14:31
akgranerashams, what's up14:32
ashamsakgraner: what if we make an appreciation day14:32
ashamsit would be something like a feast14:32
ashamswhere everybody thank everybody14:32
ashamsone day every year14:33
ashamsI think this joyness can/will revive activity and will give ppl a reason to suffer all the year-long :)14:33
akgranerI like that - but what I'd like to do as well along those lines is revive "Hall of Fame)14:33
YoBoYlike a free hug day ? ^^"14:33
akgranerand have one day a month where we blog about people all day etc14:33
ashamsYoBoY: yeah, something like this14:33

ashamsakgraner: yeah14:34
ashamsbut it can be only once a year14:34
ashamsso we keep it's joyness14:34
ashamsand make ppl wait for it14:34

akgranerashams, I think it's great14:36
ashamsakgraner: thanks14:36
akgranerhow does this sound  - let me cross reference all the Ubuntu weeks and other tech appreciation days and see if we can find a unique day14:36
akgranerashams, actually this fits in nicely with leadership14:37
ashamsakgraner: gr814:37
ashamsyou know the first day someone started to develop into ubuntu?14:37
akgranerleaders appreciate and thank those they lead- they find ways to motivate, recruit and retain members14:37
akgranerso this would fit nicely14:37
ashamsyeah, it will benift in both ways14:38
ashamskeeping current ppl alive14:38

=== Cheesehead_away is now known as Cheesehead
CheeseheadAdded a section on burnout. Since I'm too lazy too burnout at anything, the anecdotes are based on people I have known.17:17
pleia2hehe17:53
akgranerCheesehead, too funny - I think between jono and I we have a lot of information on burnout20:27
Cheeseheadakgraner: Indeed, but nobody leapt up to grab that slice of the pizza. I've never burnt out. I've just kept others from burning out.20:33
akgraner:-)20:33
YoBoY(lucky one)20:33
CheeseheadNot lucky, *lazy*20:40
CheeseheadCan't get on the burnout cycle if 12 steps is just to much to bother...20:41
head_victimOn the previous conversation about 6 hours ago, the hall of fame is good (needs some polish but still good) as I've used it to congratulate members in the loco who appear there. I try to make a bit of a fuss about them (tweet, email the list, tell them on IRC, etc) as it's one of the few ways we can give meaningful recognition for hard work.20:44
YoBoYwe give goodies (tshirt, mug, stickers...) :)20:47
head_victimAh, we're a small group with no funding :/20:48
head_victimI'm already trying to scrounge some prizes for an installation fest I'm thinking of20:48
head_victimIt's a good measuring stick though. If you make that you've been doing some hard work in my experience.20:50
YoBoYmoney is always the problem on the begining20:52
YoBoYour loco started like yours, some of our first members paid for the first steps of the loco20:54
CheeseheadI tend to look at things the other way around: What would people enjoy and feel fulfilled by, and work the group mission into that.20:55
CheeseheadI used to do community TV, and we spend 50% of our taime making video, and 50% of our time on pizza-and-beer afterward20:55
CheeseheadNever a problem finding volunteers, if 50% of out time is already fun20:56
YoBoY(I love the pizza and beer part, always the best moments :D)20:56
CheeseheadHad a couple find each other and get married from it.20:57
Cheesehead"Hey, everybody. Lift a glass to Scott, who ran the sound board great tonight. It was a tricky one tonight, too."20:58
CheeseheadThat's all the recognition we gave.20:58
CheeseheadNot saying it's appropriate for a LoCo, but perhaps an idea in there somewhere.20:59
head_victimOur loco is ancient but went into a bit of hibernation that I'm trying to help wake it from.20:59
head_victimI always try to link social with work as well, for the install fest there will be an adjournment to a pub.21:00
CheeseheadInstall-based pub games? Fastest install gets a bonus at darts?21:01
head_victimHaha21:01
CheeseheadBack in video, we did great with families. Kids had pizza-and-soda, but 12-and-up still ran cameras and even directed a few times.21:02
head_victimDo you have any links to a list of what your team created?21:03
head_victimMy team wanted streaming and video so we've opened a youtube and ustream account, they might provide some inspiration21:03
CheeseheadNo, I left video (changed cities) before the web and links even existed. Just some old VHS tapes in a box somewhere.21:05
head_victimAhh fair enough, just checking21:06
head_victimAnyway, I should head to work. Cheerio, thanks for the thoughs21:06
head_victimthoughts*21:06
CheeseheadTake care21:06
ashamsHi again23:19
