gnomieurlin2u: we aren't lucky to have whatever.. took quite a few brilliant minds to get here. i don't think 'luck' does proper justice to anyone involved in this00:03
urlin2ugnomie, you make everything literal with your own little bubble of reality/definitions you will not get far. Your only goal here is to argue with me00:05
=== yofel_ is now known as yofel
coz_hey guys,, does anyone know if the mini iso is available00:05
OerHekswhat hardware / GPU are we talking about, pre 2002 ?00:06
gnomiepentium4 for instance00:06
coz_linux works fine on pre 200200:06
coz_works very well with pentium 400:06
yofelI had natty running on a pentium4 fine00:07
yofelbut if you ask me whether I want to run it on my old Pentium 166MHz, no... probably not00:07
coz_:)00:08
yofelsqueeze works fine there, even if the GPU has not enough memory to run X00:08
coz_there are mini distributions that work well and fast on older machines as well as c urrent00:08
yofel... in a sane resolution00:08
gnomiecoz_: to use layman terms, 11.10 is not going well on this pentium4 here. :(00:08
urlin2ucoz_, I believe the mini is out.00:08
coz_urlin2u,  cool now I n eed to find it ")00:09
coz_gnomie,  I will test on this machine,,, so far fedora 15  ,,natty,, mint,, debian etc all run fine00:09
urlin2ucoz_, I have been trying. :D00:09
coz_:)00:09
yofelcan't talk much about the UI requirements since I run kubuntu. KDE without effects ran fine on the nvidia GF 4200 that the system had00:09
gnomie11.04 runs fine though.. it's 11.10 that grinds my gears00:10
gnomiei even had unity2d going .. no problem. not the same story right now00:10
coz_gnomie,   mmm well I will be testing 11.10 soon on this pentium 4 machine,,  I will let you know,,,if it is going to slow down I move over to fedora  ,,,,mint linux has a few weird issues with compiz that they cant figure out00:11
coz_gnomie,  my focus are my clients,, who mainly have older machines generally pentium 4.. so if it fails on a pentium 4  I move to fedora for them00:11
yofelwhy not debian?00:12
coz_yofel,  possible,, although debian  uses " stable" libraries which translate in to "old " libraries when compiz is added into the mix00:12
yofeltrue00:12
coz_yofel,  since most of my clients love compiz  I have to take that into consideration00:13
yofelheh, understandable00:13
gnomiethen again, adding a cheap pci video card would prolly be a major improvement   :-/00:13
coz_so far  it is debian that causes more erros and problems in #compiz than any other distribution00:13
coz_gnomie,  pci video is not going to make it with compiz though00:14
coz_bus speed is far too slow00:14
gnomiei prefer unity2d though00:14
coz_ah then that's fine00:14
gnomieright00:14
gnomiei prefer unity2d even on a capable system00:16
gnomieam hooked  o.000:16
coz_:)00:16
coz_personally I dont like unity at all 2d or 3d... I prefer list driven menus not image driven menus00:16
coz_but apparenlty it is always going to be a "split" camp on this issue00:17
coz_appliance interfaces  are ok on an ipad  when considering screen realestate00:17
yofelwell, I can live with image driven menus, as long as it has *colors* - I'm not much of a fan of the current monochrome icon trend :/00:18
yofelif you remove colors from the icons you can as well just replace them with text00:18
gnomiewell.. to be honest, tablets and things of that sort are fine with whatever they ship in00:18
gnomieimo00:18
coz_yofel,  i dont blame you,, especially when you consider the accessibility problems with monochrome00:18
yofelyeah, I don't have any problems there, except prefering to orient myself by colors00:19
coz_I was always under the impression that 'accessibility " features are taken into consideration before anything else,, apparenlty that phylosophy has changed00:19
gnomietouche00:20
gnomiesomething has shifted indeed00:20

coz_well if anyone finds the link to a mini iso ,, let me know :)00:21
yofelhm00:22
yofel!minimal00:22
ubottuThe Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want (the installer is like the one on the !Alternate CD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD00:22
gnomielulz.. thought you were referring to 'dell mini'00:22
coz_ah  now why didnt i think of that factoid!?  duh00:22
coz_ah not avialable on that link00:22
yofeljust take one of the iso links on the page and s/natty/oneiric00:23
coz_gnomie,  no :) I prefer using the mini iso  even at beta stage if possible00:23
yofelthe isos are there00:23
coz_ok cool00:23
g30Howdie all :)00:25
coz_g30,         hey00:26
g30hi00:28
bazhanghi00:28
gnomiei say this again, though.. unity2d for oneiric is a lot nicer than what you get from repos for 11.0400:31
coz_that's good news00:33
gnomiei call them as i sees them00:33
gnomie>:)00:33
gnomie<-- full gnomish fiend00:34
zhiweihello, Battery Icon still exist on panel event it is changed.00:34
zhiweiHow to resolve this problem?00:35
gnomiebelieve it or not.. the main reason i like gnomunity is the terminal. if i didn't care, i be using kde .. there is something about gnome that compells me to use the terminal  0.o00:36
zhiweiI can't find gnome-power-management00:36
OnlyodinWhen I Ctrl-V (paste) in nautilus after using Ctrl-C to copy a file, instead of pasting the file(s), the filenames are pasted in a find input box. Is there a way I can revert that behaviour?00:39
OnlyodinI'm sure Ctrl-V used to paste files, not filenames.00:39
coz_Onlyodin,  mm not sure I dont have it installed yet but try shift+ctrl+v00:40
gnomieyah, some things like that look inverted lately00:41
gnomiethe shift.. told ya00:42

DrakesonDoes compiz support having two monitors placed vertically (for instance when you put your laptop beneath your larger monitor)?00:50
coz_Drakeson,  it should ...yes00:50
coz_Drakeson,  I have not tested it with vertical dual monitors however00:51
coz_since that arrangement would be taken care of the graphics utility00:51
coz_but I believe it has already been done00:51
Drakesonwell, it behaves awkwardly00:51
coz_oh?00:51
coz_Drakeson,  in what ways?00:51
Drakesonfor example, you cannot drag a window from top to bottom!00:51
coz_Drakeson,  which video card are you using?00:52
Drakesonintel00:52
coz_Drakeson, oh!!00:52
coz_Drakeson,  I know less about intel graphics than I do about ati,, I generally always use nvidia00:52
coz_with n vidia  settings the arrangement using twinview can be altered to any monitor configuration00:53
Drakesonalso, it places new windows wrong. the title-bar is placed beneath the panel.00:53
zhiweihi, anyone can resolve this problem?http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=184962200:53
coz_Drakeson,  let me swtich my monitor config to vertical and start compiz ...hold on00:53
zhiweiI have the same case with Drakeson .00:54
zhiweibattery icon appears even if the power is charged00:54
Peter_Bilti am an ubuntuhuman00:54
Drakesoncoz_: I can change the settings fine. I am guess compiz only expects horizontally placed monitors.00:54
Peter_Biltwho invented ubuntus?00:55
Drakeson"invent"?00:55
Peter_Biltyes00:55
coz_Drakeson,  looks like you are correct00:55
Drakesonubuntu is a project.00:55
mingdao_must have been Al Gore, eh?00:55
Peter_Biltno its a swaheli word or something00:55
yofelPeter_Bilt: ask Mark, he should know00:55
mingdao_no ... he invented the internet :-)00:55
coz_Drakeson,  what you might want to do is go to #compiz-dev and speak with smspillaz00:55
g30HA @ AlGore00:56
Peter_Biltim just curious00:56
coz_Drakeson,  if anyone can explain and or correct this ,, it will be be sam00:56
Peter_Bilti thought bob ross invented ubuntu00:56
* Drakeson wonders who invents words ... perhaps speakers of a language?00:56
Drakesoncoz_: sure.00:56
Peter_Biltmaybe i am00:56
zhiweicoz_: did you see my problem? battery icon appears even if the power is charged, do you know how to resolve this?00:56
Peter_Biltzhiwei: remove the battery00:58
zhiweiPeter_Bilt:  How to remove?00:58
Peter_Biltscrewdriwers or something, or a clip00:59
coz_sorry had to restart x after that change,, darn mint00:59
urlin2uUbuntu is African and not particular to any specific African culture it has been around a long time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_%28philosophy%2900:59
zhiweiPeter_Bilt: sorry I still can understand what you said.01:00
Peter_Biltyou have to remove your laptop or notebook accumulator01:00
Peter_Bilti think that will solve the problem, but adds another01:00
coz_zhiwei,  no I dont know how to solve it at this time,,, might be a bug,,, I dont have oneiric installed yet,,,sorry01:01
coz_it is still beta software though01:01
zhiweiyou mean I should physically remove battery ?01:02
Peter_Biltyes, but don't take it seriously01:02
gnomiePeter_Bilt: stop01:02
Peter_Biltstop apartheid01:02
gnomiejoin #ubuntu-offtopic for non-support chat01:02
Drakesoncoz_: had to restart x? Since I switched to oneiric, after one or two times connecting and disconnecting the second monitor, X (or compiz) often crashes or just hangs up. every other time this happens I have to actually reboot the machine (this one is probably intel driver's fault)01:03
gnomiealso, read /topic01:03
Peter_Biltread /topic01:03
Peter_Biltdrakeson01:03
Peter_Bilti got the same problem with my sandy bridge01:03
zhiweiI will try it now, see you when I reboot my laptop.01:03
coz_Drakeson,  sounds definitly like video driver,,, however mint linux there are issues with compiz restart or going to metacity  ,, the system freezes  ...so that's what happened here01:04
Peter_Bilti recummend to disable any 3d acceleration or something01:04
Drakesoncoz_: I get the compiz freeze, too. it crashes and after a while (1-2 minutes!) compiz is run again.01:05
coz_Drakeson,  this is not good news,,, I see you are in #compiz-dev.. as I said sam can probably explain and or fix the issue,, however ,, he lives in austrailia so you may have to adjust your questions for when he is likely on  and they are a day ahead also :)01:06
Peter_Biltmy z68 is goin g crazy with xorg, its like xorg is the  apache and the rest of the system the US Army in the late 19th century01:06
Drakesoncoz_: oh, thanks for the tip. I'll try to contact him later.01:06
gnomie!bug | Drakeson01:07
ubottuDrakeson: If you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its derivatives, please file a bug using the command « ubuntu-bug <package> » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs.01:07
Drakesongnomie: please!01:07
Peter_Biltmaybe aspie who knows01:07
UsagiakumuI am loving the new beta, however I was hoping that the Ubuntu button would be moved back to the top of the bar01:08
gnomiethis channel is not a replacement for filing bugs01:08
Usagiakumuit doesnt look right on the dock01:08
Usagiakumuit looks out of place, I like the placement in 11.04 better01:09
Drakesongnomie: I vaguely remember I actually filed a bug for this one.  I am just trying to make sure it is well communicated before next months ;)01:09
Usagiakumualso make the icons smaller, they are too big in 11.0401:10
Peter_BiltUsagiakumu: yeah the icons are way to large01:10
User_007Hey guys! I got Oneiric beta2 today and it comes with lots of problems...01:10
Usagiakumuit gets really annoying when you have like 50+ applications01:10
Peter_BiltUsagiakumu: they look like a toy computer01:10
Drakesongnomie: I'll try to make sure I actually did.  Meanwhile please expect frustrated people to _also_ talk about embarrassing bugs here.01:10
Usagiakumuim not saying these are problems and I love all the changes01:11
User_007can anyone help me minimizing effects of graphic interface?01:11
Usagiakumualso pleas for the love of all thats holy unanchor the dock from the left01:11
UsagiakumuI want to MOVE it to the bottom or the right out of my way01:11
Usagiakumubeing anchored to the left is really fricking annoying01:12
Peter_Biltthe most embarassing bug was a non working network manager01:12
gnomieUsagiakumu: file a wishlist bug on launchpad or join us in brainstorm.ubuntu.com01:12
DrakesonUsagiakumu: that has been discussed elsewhere. I guess there were bug reports / wishes about the placement of the dock.01:12
Usagiakumuother than that amazing work all01:12
urlin2uUser_007, which desktop, and be very specific in unity compiz is part of the DE.01:12
UsagiakumuI love the new Unity otherwise01:12
Peter_Biltbecause someone on a very elevated mental level forgot to add it in the package01:12
gnomieDrakeson: noted.. just adding my two cents01:12
Usagiakumujust move the Ubuntu button back to the global menu bar where it was01:13
User_007everything turn slower, like from moving a window to open dash01:13
Usagiakumubeing where its at just looks wrong01:13
gnomieUsagiakumu: i disagree; unlucky for you, it's not going to change at this stage01:14
Usagiakumugreat work on Unity it is a lot more feature complete01:14
Usagiakumu11.04 Unity is too naked in comparison01:14
User_007urlin2u, everything from moving a window to type on unity's dash become much slower01:15
Peter_Biltrequest: adding music to the upgrade process, because sometime a user has to do some manual tasks if configuration files has to be replaced, and that stops the update. like most of us they dont sit behind the screen, they wait and do something productive01:15
DrakesonUnity's dash is slow here, too.  I blame libnux.01:15
urlin2uUser_007, what is your cpu and ram, some have complained it all seems slower.01:15
User_007cpu and ram almost free... i use cpu on ondemand governor01:16
User_007changing to Performace don't help01:16
DrakesonI strongly suspect libnux is very non-optimized.01:16
zhiweiPeter_Bilt: Hello, the battery icon still exist on panel...01:17
Peter_Biltzhiwei: strange01:17
User_007urlin2u, is there anything i can do in order do reduce effects?01:17
Peter_Biltwithout battery a battery level... sounds spastic to me01:17
Peter_Bilti am paralyzed01:17
zhiweiI want to know why power-manager is not same with 11.0401:18
urlin2uUser_007, part of the problem is the intertwining of compiz and unity, so messing with it itself is likely to cause problems, you can go to startup apps and turn off stuff not needed, if any there.01:18
Drakesonzhiwei: it is apparently from gnome3, now01:18
Drakesonthe settings have probably changed.01:19
urlin2uUser_007, there are I'm sure other tweaks i'm just not familiar with what they may be,01:19
Drakesontry to looking for its settings manually (dconf, gconf)01:19
zhiweiDrakeson: thank you.01:19
Peter_Biltwind it up01:19
Drakesonzhiwei: e.g.: look at "gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power"01:21
User_007urlin2u, how can i edit startup programs? (are they the ones that start every session?)01:21
Peter_Bilti hope the next ubuntu has the same startup manager like fedfnorda 1501:22
urlin2uUser_007, yeah startup applications in the dash search, as of now I believe there is little there. I wish I could adjust the speed of the side panel myself but have mot found out how.01:23
Peter_Biltpunky parrot or something01:23
urlin2unot*01:23
User_007urlin2u, by speed of the side panel you mean how fast it appears or disapears?01:24
urlin2uUser_007, yeah way to slow for me.01:24
User_007you can easily change it using CCSM01:24
Peter_Biltpejorative parrot01:24
urlin2uUser_007, the speed where.01:24
User_007on Unity Plugin submenu01:24
User_007edge reaveal timeout01:25
urlin2uUser_007, doh so obvious thanks, I have the cube and tons of other plugins running.01:26
zhiweiI have two ubuntu one in my ubuntu Dash01:26
gnomie"sure there'll be more than one unpleasant surprise before we're done" daytrip to the jungle - tribal massacre01:27
Peter_Biltrumble in the jungle yeh01:27
gnomiePeter_Bilt: join me in : #ubuntu-offtopic01:28
User_007Drakeson, you say libnux is not optimized, but it was there on natty?01:28
zhiweils01:28
User_007Drakeson, it was on version 0.96 on natty, now on 1.0, maybe the natty version is faster than oineiric01:30
User_007how can i choose what version of libnux to use?01:39
urlin2uUser_007, if both are in synaptic you can lock the one you want.01:41
User_007i installed manually the older version, and i still have the oineric version (different package names) but i want my aplications to use the older version01:43
User_007so how to do that?01:44
urlin2u14736251jOpBnaZvsN01:45

Roastedis gconf-editor not in 11.10?01:49
RoastedI just got a command not found when I ran it01:49
urlin2uUser_007, not sure there,01:49
urlin2uRoasted, deprecated dconf now01:50
User_007i am already searching01:50
Roastedso how would I go in and change my minmaxclose placement?01:50
Stanley00Roasted: you have to install it manually then ;)01:50
Roastedah okay01:50
RoastedI didnt realize you could01:50
Roastedman ubuntu sure is axing a lot of nice things01:50
Roastedgconf, synaptic01:50
Roastedtime for dvd, ubuntu?01:50
Stanley00Roasted: gonf-editor is on the liveCD, but I dont know it's removed when installed ;))01:51
Roastedwell01:51
urlin2uUser_007, you will find lock under package if you get it back (synaptic01:51
Roastedit is, evidently01:52
RoastedI installed 11.10 yesterday via liveusb and its clearly not ehre01:52
Roastedall Id id was install gnome shell once I got into it, so I doubt it just disappeared01:52
User_007urlin2u, but lock package isn't just in order to don't let it upgrade?01:52
RoastedI also noticed alt f2 functionality was gone in gnome shell as well. I had to go to keyboard bindings and re-add it.01:52
urlin2uRoasted, gconf or dconf?01:52
jakempdo I need to reinstall to get the new beta? I did a dist upgrade, and I don't see the shiny new login screen.01:52
Roastedgconf01:53
Stanley00Roasted: alt + f2 is integrated in the Dash ;)01:53
Roastedright01:53
RoastedI get that01:53
Roastedbut it's not in gnome shell in 11.1001:53
Stanley00Roasted: oh, I dont know that, I work well with unity ;)01:54
RoastedI didnt like unity much in 11.04, but it seems to work nicely here01:54
Roasteda big reason I used GS was because it didnt suck up a ton of ram and resources on my netbook to run. in fact, GS ran lighter than... XFCE...01:54
Roastedbut untiy in 11.10 is far far far more usable. but it's still not GS. :P01:54
urlin2uUser_007, lock I believe means no upgrade to the locked package01:55
User_007urlin2u, i already locked it on synaptic, it means it won't upgrade,01:56
User_007but i still have the two versions01:57
User_007how i make it use only the old one?01:57
urlin2uUser_007, yeah older link but info. http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-lock-package-versions-from-synaptic-package-manager.html01:57
urlin2uUser_007, only have one installed01:57
User_007urlin2u, my problem is not locking version, as i said before the packages have different names01:58
urlin2uUser_007, I can't say what your doing will work as actual package but that is the gist.01:58
User_007so they survive together on the same installation... is like having firefox4 and firefox 501:58
urlin2uUser_007,  would not know.01:58
urlin2uI01:58
User_007okay01:59
User_007Guys, is there any way to revert unity and stuff from oneiric back to natty?02:01

jakempjeremy@solid-ocelot:~$ gdm02:16

jakempI don't have gdm installed02:16
jakempoh whoops02:16
Drakesonjakemp: don't do that! do: dpkg -l | grep gdm , or something like that02:17

gnomie!botsnack02:18
ubottuYum! Err, I mean, APT!02:18
User_007something must be very wrong with my graphic driver since upgrade02:18
escottjakemp, have you tried service lightdm restart02:18
jakempthat'll log me off?02:19
gnomiemy thing here is pretty sluggish too, yes02:19
DrakesonUser_007: which driver? I am on intel and it went crappy since upgrade.02:19
User_007Radeon, my card is a X1200 (integrated on laptop)02:19
jakempnope, restarting lightdm did not work02:21
User_007Drakeson, do you use opensource drivers too?02:22
escottjakemp, is lightdm showing up in ps aux | grep lightdm?02:23
jakempyes 2 times (+ grep)02:24
escottjakemp, two times? on the same VT? what happens if you ctrl-alt-F# to that VT02:24
User_007Drakeson, maybe something on xorg...02:24
jakempescott, VTs seem to be working fine, here is the output of that ps: http://pastebin.com/svbfSv1e02:25
escottjakemp, so what do you see when you ctrl-alt-f7?02:26
User_007well, i will try something on old Gnome...02:27
jakempescott, it takes me to my main graphical window02:27
escottjakemp, im confused. what exactly is the problem here02:28
jakempI read that the new beta had a nice new login screen02:29
escottjakemp, but you are already logged into the gui right?02:30
jakempyes.02:30
escottjakemp, well thats why you cant see lightdm, you only see it when you logout02:31
jakempwell yeah, but when I rebooted, it wasn't there, and when I restarted lightdm it wasn't there02:32

bandit5432looks like there is no stable marlin03:08
bandit5432are you using elementary ?03:08
macer1bandit5432, no, there is ppa for that03:09
macer1it is in beta, but is much faster that nautilus, and looks better03:10
bjsniderit's not going to be in ubuntu if it's not in debian03:13
bjsniderand it's not in debian03:13
bandit5432nope i see that looks promising though03:13
bjsniderpromising in what way?03:15
bandit5432more customizable but i dont have it installed so its looks might be decieving03:15
bandit5432i just downloaded the git source of nautilus to see if it lists the items that can be customized in nautilus-toolbar-ui.xml03:17
bandit5432and i probably wont find what i am looking for03:18
bandit5432i wish that nautilus button where customizable like firefox03:22
bandit5432buttons'03:22
bandit5432hmm does any one use the gnome fallback mode?03:29
macer1me03:31
bandit5432do you use gnome-shell or unity at all?03:32
macer1yes, I use03:32
macer1I have shell, unity, kde and fallback installed03:32
bandit5432which do you use the most?03:32
bandit5432i am trying to edit oneiric so that it will work like gnome2 and so far its working ok with some minor things that i will need to change or learn to live with03:34
macer1gnome-shell because it is not crashing now, unity is very crashing because of compiz. But now there is dependency problem with gnome-shell and it stopped working03:34
macer1unity is cool, but buggy and crashy03:34
bandit5432sorry i cant get past the mac look to force myself to use it03:41

bandit5432i like the fallback mode and i am working on the rest03:51
bjsnideralthough the extensions have be updated for 3.2 because some of the api has changed03:51
bandit5432hoping to not have to bail on gnome to xcfe i like gnome03:51
bjsnideri've got a workspace switcher, a paces menu, a system monitor, et al.03:51
bandit5432i think i would like unity and or gnome-shell on my tablet03:55
jakempokay, one monitor above the other is really not well done04:05
jakempWhen I click on the icon to pull up multiple windows, they pop up in the split, and under the bar04:05

stodandid anyone try to install beta2 with btrfs over dm-crypt and lvm? install always fails on linux-generic package08:14
stodantrying to do it on vbox, guided crypt with default ext4 works fine, but if I switch to btrfs on last step - no luck08:15
stodani am reinstalling with en locale, so i can paste log, but it always says "No space left on device" while unpacking (i guess) modules (this time c_can_platform.ko)08:19

gnomiehold on.. its system monitor itself .08:33
gnomie:o08:33

zhiweignomie: so, how to resolve this problem? battery icon08:41
gnomieName141: first off, 11.10 uses gnome3. unity runs on top of it08:41
Name141gnomie: So there would be an option to go back to the classic look?08:42
gnomiezhiwei: i wouldnt know, gnomie not mobile08:42
gnomie:(08:42
l33o<l33o> since 5 days the ubuntu update doesnt show new updates...i am here on lubuntu 11.10 ...is this a known bug ???08:42

htorquewhich you can choose from the login screen08:43
Name141htorque: I suppose I would know better if I downloaded it and tested it under a virtual machine ?08:43
gnomieName141: only options are unity [for accelerated displays] and unity2d for all others with low hardware specs08:44
Name141gnomie: I reckon I'll just test it out and go from there08:45
htorqueName141: sure, that's the best way to take a look at pre-release software anyway as it won't affect your stable system.08:45
l33owhat is the best and recommended way to update (l)ubuntu 11.10 ?? with ubuntu update, with synaptic or with apt-get update ?08:45
gnomieand yes, at this stage, 11.10 has the look of the final. but as far as am concerned it's pretty buggy . granted, it should run better on newer hardware, however, there are quite a few bugs that might halt your experience08:47
Name141htorque: I'm making the bet that the next LTS will be Unity anyway? (or too far out to tell?)08:48
htorqueName141: it certainly will be unity08:48
Name141htorque: Looks like I better get used to it then.08:48
Name141why the change from Gnome anyway?08:49
gnomiefurthermore, running this beta on virtual machine has proven even buggier, some features of unity are known not to work well in such environment08:50
l33oany 1 here who knows a good q&a concerning ubuntu 11.10 ?08:50
Name141gnomie: Will this GUI be the same as the one in the stable release of Ubuntu then?08:51
htorqueno idea, GNOME Shell just wasn't where canonical would have liked to go. besides, the very first version of unity came earlier than the first usable version of GNOME Shell.08:51
gnomieName141: it is likely to be the case, yes08:51
htorqueName141: in virtualbox you need to activate 2d acceleration and install the guest additions to get unity (3d). else you'll see unity 2d, which looks almost the same.08:52
l33oare you all getting the updates the last days?08:54

gnomiethat was my bug.. AlanBell's is a different one12:32

hansg01when i tried to install utorrent server on oneiric beta 213:01
hansg01i received ./utserver: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory13:01
Stanley00hansg01: are you using 64bit ubuntu?13:12
hansg01Stanley00: no 32 bit13:12
Stanley00hansg01: can you give me the output of "locate libssl.so"13:13
hansg01yeah  it is13:14
hansg01/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.013:14
hansg01/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.013:14

hans01ne one there to help me out please?13:35
RovanionIs 32-bit wine installed on a 64-bit install of Ubuntu? http://pastebin.com/eY9nkBaX13:35
Stanley00hans01: make a link not solve your prob?13:35
hans01Stanley00: link?13:36
penguin42Rovanion: I don't know the answer, but with multiarch on oneiric you might try installing the 32bit version explicitly - apt-get install wine1.3.i386 I think should do it ?13:36
Stanley00hans01: it needs lib..0.9.8 and you have lib 1.0.0 I think make a link will do the trick?13:37
OerHekshans try make a link libssl.so.0.9.8 to libssl.so.1.0.013:37
Rovanionpenguin42: I would rather have the opposite. My .wine is for 64-bit wine, but the installed version seems to be 32-bit13:37
Stanley00hans01: for example ln -s /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libssl.so.0.9.813:37
hans01Stanley00: sry i dnt knw how can i do that?13:38
penguin42Rovanion: Oh I see, erm I think it's best asking a wine specialist then - I've not used it for ages13:38
hans01OerHeks: sry i dnt knw how can i do that?13:38
Stanley00hans01: open terminal, and then run that command13:38
hans01Stanley00: yeah i knw that i hv to do something in terminal13:39
hans01Stanley00: ok13:39
OerHekshans, did you also get an error with  /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8 ?13:39
hans01OerHerks: i hvnt tried yet13:40
hans01i mm sending the error again13:40
OerHeksplease paste the output in paste.ubuntu.com13:41
jtaylorStanley00: you can't symlink 1.0.0 to 0.9.8 they are not binary compatible ...13:41
Stanley00jtaylor: idk that, just try and error ;)13:41
hans01i want to install utorrent server13:41
jtaylorif you need the old library install it13:41
jtaylorits still available13:41
jtaylorlibssl0.9.813:41
hans01but when i followed the procedure13:42
hans01i got the error:13:42
Stanley00jtaylor: you're genius, it still there ;))13:42
hans01./utserver: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory13:42
Stanley00hans01: do as jtaylor said :)13:43
jtaylordo you have it installed?13:43
hans01jtaylor: do tel me plz13:43
jtaylorsudo apt-get install libssl0.9.813:43
hans01jtaylor: ok13:44
hans01jtaylor: and the new version will be installed too?13:45
hans01i mean wat i had earlier13:45
jtaylorthey can be installed at the same time yes13:45
hans01jtaylor: thank you!13:46
hans01Stanley00: thank you!13:47
Stanley00hans01: np ;)13:47
BluesKajwell I got most of my audio options sorted out withy new soundcard , (m-audio audiophile 192), it's set as default , does the digital passthru of DD and DTS , plays flash /flv files on dragon player , so all i have left to figure out is the lack of any flash audio on the websites... any suggestions ?13:49
Stanley00do anyone notices the firefox update today? where is the google search engine? what is ask.com at last?13:49

thiebaudeHow do I enable automatic login on Ubuntu 11.10?14:04
hans01thiebaunde: user accounts14:04
thiebaudehans01, Thanks :)14:05
dreamonHello, trying install 11.10 on Laptop. Starting from cd. Install works till "installing main system" 90% it stands still. How can I take a look whats going on.14:16
jtaylorctrl + alt + f314:17
jtayloror 1 2 4 don't remember14:17
jtaylorhm maybe r does that only work for the alternate installer?14:17
dreamonctrl+alt+f1...f10 nothin happens. mousepointer is rotating. CD isn't working .. but I can make klicks on buttons (sound,Network and so on.)14:19
dreamonThink I give alternate a try. Thank you14:20
TheBuntuupgrade from 11.04 to 11.10... whats better upgrade-manager -d or do-release-upgrade -d14:53
penguin42no difference14:54
jtaylorshould be the same14:54
TheBuntui dident know if cli was any faster the gui14:54
jtaylorno14:55
TheBuntuguess i just got use to pacman man in arch being so fast... But have to many probs in arch... with sound.. kde plasma troubles... never have those here14:57
jtaylorif you want a fast upgrade use force-unsafe-io or eatmydata, but if you have a power cut during it, you will probably have to reinstall ;)14:58
TheBuntuShould install the normal 250 updates before i do the upgrade14:59
penguin42jtaylor: What are those flags to?14:59
jtaylordpkg has a force-unsafe-io flag, eatmydata is a library which you can preload14:59
penguin42ah nice14:59
penguin42dpkg can be rather painfully slow at times15:00
TheBuntuso it would be upgrade-manager -d force-unsafe-io15:01
TheBuntuor do i put that in a file15:02
jtaylorecho force-unsafe-io | sudo tee /etc/dpkg/dpkg.conf.d/unsafe should do it15:03
jtaylorbut beware this flag is dangerous15:03
jtayloror sudo apt-get install libeatmydata; LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libeatmydata/libeatmydata.so command15:03
TheBuntuWhatt is it bypassing on the install15:03
penguin42I guess skipping the syncs15:04
jtaylorit removes fsync calls, so the steps of the installation aren't atomic anymore15:04
penguin42it's letting it carry on before the previous stuff has been written to the disk - it's fine as long as you don't lose power15:04
jtaylorif something fails during installation you end up with an inconsistent state from which it might be hard or impossible to recover15:05
jtaylorI only use it for my chroots or for fresh installs15:05
jtaylorI'd not sue it for upgrades15:05
escottTheBuntu, for an upgrade to a beta its probably best to do that in a console perhaps even under screen in case your gui goes out15:06
TheBuntumike@Mikes-PC:~$ echo force-unsafe-io | sudo tee /etc/dpkg/dpkg.conf.d/unsafe [sudo] password for mike:  tee: /etc/dpkg/dpkg.conf.d/unsafe: No such file or directory force-unsafe-io15:06
penguin42TheBuntu: Don't bother with it - just do the upgrade as normal15:07
jtaylorits dpkg.cfg.d15:07
jtaylorits a newer flag, it may not be available for older dpkg's, in that case you need to use eatmydata15:09
tiagoHello guys, a small question: I got 11.10 Beta 2 running here and I would like to know if when it gets officially launched, the upgrade will be smooth or will be better to format and reinstall the new version?15:12
Stanley00It will be smooth, I hope ;)15:12
jtaylorupgrading should be enough15:12
tiagonice15:12
tiagobecause I will have to extend the ext4 partition...15:13
jtaylorlvm ftw ;)15:13
tiagoI tried with btfrs but it is really laggy15:13
jtaylorlife partitioning and resizing is really nice for dev systems :)15:13
penguin42lvm is great15:13
tiagonever tried lvm15:14
tiagowill I need to put /boot in a ext3 partition ?15:14
TheBuntuthanks... i'll do the normal.. to be safe15:14
tiagobtrfs* a typo there15:14
tiagocan someone gimme this tip? Even on ext4, is it better to put the /boot in a separated ext3 partition?15:16
* penguin42 doesn'tthink it makes much difference15:16
tiagoright15:17
tiagothanks guys, gonna extend the partition here15:18
tiagofarewell15:18

tknudsengood morning.  My ISP (Comcast) curiously lets me download only 500M of files only with ubuntu and beta in the name.15:31
BluesKajtknudsen, are you serious ..your ISP15:32
BluesKaj?15:32
tknudsenobviously, the file is closer to 700M. I have tried 20 times with ten servers. I can download any other ISO file except Ubuntu beta215:32
jtayloruse zsync15:32
tknudsenyes, I have emailed people at canonical and FSF15:32
* tknudsen finds zsync15:32
jtaylorlets you complete on already downloaded chunks15:33
tknudsencant I somehow share a cropped screenshot??15:33
tknudsenanyway, I took a screenshot15:34
dashavooanyone have openGL/wine problems in 11.10?15:37
tknudsenjtaylor, zsync is running. thanks.15:37
lotuspsychjewhat are main changes in ocelot?15:38
dashavoolotuspsychje: unity got better, unity got worse. Some new packages. Lots of updated packages. KDE got much better.15:38
jtaylorhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneiricOcelot/TechnicalOverview/Beta215:38
lotuspsychjedashavoo: in your opninion what got worse in unity?15:39
lotuspsychjejtaylor: tnx for link15:39
* tknudsen is digging kde 4.7. It has come of age. More features: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/+specs15:40
dashavoolotuspsychje: it isn't really that something in unity got worse, unity got far better, but classic mode is gone ;)15:41
dashavootknudsen: completely agree15:41
lotuspsychjecool15:41
dashavooprior to 4.7, I hated KDE15:41
dashavooit is suddenly a different beast altogether15:41
BluesKajtknudsen, are you having windows size issues ? I'm also on kde 4.715:41
bjsniderand all of a sudden with 4.7 some miracle happened15:41
lotuspsychjei love unity, but i wish one day unity bar can be moved down to bottom15:41
penguin42BluesKaj: Window size?15:41
tknudsenblueskaj,I've only tried kde on fedora 16 alpha15:42
tknudsenbjsnider, project lighthouse made it into qt 4.8. That is what is making kde better, I think.15:42
dashavoomy only real issue with 11.10 now is that I can't get opengl to work under wine15:42
tknudsenerr, have only tried kde 4.7 on fedora 16, rather15:43
BluesKajsizing penguin42 .the windows won't retain their settings15:43
dashavoowhich I will stop caring about in about a month, because I will be back to having no time for games15:43
dashavooBluesKaj: I haven't noticed that, but I haven't been paying attention to it either15:43
BluesKajdashavoo, wine is being kept back in my updates right now15:44
penguin42BluesKaj: Do you mean across restarts or in general use?15:44
tknudsenjtaylor, zsync transfer has stopped. How do I move it along?15:44
jtayloryou can restart it if it hangs15:44
jtaylorit will continue with what you already have15:44
jtayloryou can also use it to upgrade your beta image to the final image and only need to download whats different15:45
BluesKajpenguin42, general use , for example the the konsole is always a small square in upper left that to be expanded each time it's opened15:45
BluesKajhas to be15:45
penguin42BluesKaj: Oh odd, no I don't get that15:45
tknudsenjtaylor, no, it didn't. From 38% to 0% on restart.15:45
dashavooBluesKaj: I don't think wine itself is the problem, because different wine versions suffer the same fate15:45
penguin42BluesKaj: Do you have a shutdown option on your menu - mine has gone15:46
jtaylorthat should be impossible, unless your ISP is really messing with all your data15:46
BluesKajdashavoo, yeah, I don't ude wine much , but I thought I'd mention it15:46
BluesKajuse15:46
tknudsenEVERYONE: Am I the only person having difficulty downloading beta2 ISO files? I can download any other ISO in the world.15:46
jtaylortry a daily build instead of the beta15:48
BluesKajtknudsen, are any torrents available15:48
BluesKaj?15:48
tknudsenIt quits often around 500M. Have tried 20 times with different servers. jtaylor, got a url?15:48
jtaylorhttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/15:49
dashavooI might experiment with different nvidia drivers15:49
dashavoothere are two other options in jockey15:49
tknudsenblueskaj, I was using the beta2 page link15:49
dashavooanyway, ciao15:49
jtaylorhm does hedgewars work for someone?15:50
tknudsenjtaylor, hrm no server ISO15:50
jtaylorhttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily/current/15:50
tknudsenthank you!15:50

graingert/var/log/apt/ contains empty logs for today or old stuff from ages ago16:08
RovanionIs 32-bit wine installed on a 64-bit install of Ubuntu? I'm having troubly running anything since my .wine is generated by a 64-bit wine: http://pastebin.com/eY9nkBaX16:13
graingertRovanion: ah you probably added a 32 bit repo16:15
graingertRovanion: uninstall wine add the ppa https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa#16:15
timhi, after switching to 11.10 beta2, i cannot use wine with d3d applications any more. wine complaints: Direct3D9 is not available without OpenGL.16:16
graingerttim: do you have a compositor enabled?16:17
timi'm using the binary nvidia driver on a 64bit ubuntu16:17
graingertdo you have the latest drivers for your card16:17
graingertoh okay16:17
graingerthmm16:17
graingertodd16:17
timgraingert: i have kwin with effects16:17
timused to work with 11.04, though16:18
* penguin42 wonders if you're missing a 32bit lib16:18
timpenguin42: ia32-libs are installed16:18
penguin42tim: OK, but some stuff has moved in 11.10 - it's now got multiarch so you can install actual 32bit packages16:19
timhowever i have a feeling that there are some changes with the multiarch system16:19
timpenguin42: yes, i'm suspecting the same16:19
timpenguin42: the question is, which lib ;)16:20
penguin42tim: It's possibly one of the nvidia libraries as well for extra fun16:22
timpenguin42: it seems that natty did not provide any 32bit nvidia libraries, either ... ia32-libs does ship all the opengl libraries, though ... it doesn't look like that a lot has changed16:33
tknudsenzsync ain't solving this problem16:36
tknudsenhow fk'd up16:36
tknudsenfk! transfer stopped at 90%.  How do I get zsync to clinch this?16:48
oCeantknudsen: control your language please16:49
tknudsensure16:49
tknudsen20 transfers failing at 90%.   Am I the only person having this problem??16:50
bjsniderwhy don't you stop using zsync for this task16:56
tknudsenbjsnider, what would you suggest? firefox, chrome, and lynx yield the same.16:57
bjsniderjust go to the command line and use wget16:57
* tknudsen tries with wget. This is a very unusual problem. I've just about used the typical amount of bandwidth on this issue that I use in a month.16:59
TheBuntuhad gimp 2.6.11 installed... removed gimp 2 .6.11.. trying to install 2.7 .. and geting...  The following packages have unmet dependencies: gimp : Depends: gimp-data (<= 2.6.11-z) but 2.7.3-2011082002~oo is to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.16:59
bjsniderhave you tried torrent?16:59
tknudsenbjsnider, good question. I've never tried torrent before. Will it work with the link on the beta2 page? I thought it had to be torrent specific.17:00
tknudsendownloading a 700M file hasn't been a problem before. It's running at over 2M/sec, but it just like the socket connection is getting snipped.17:01
bjsniderthere will be a torrent of the beta2 spin. probably not of the daily cd17:02
bjsnideryou can install the beta2 cd, but will have to turn around and install 250+ updates immediately17:02
tknudsentransfer died. I have downloaded 11.04 and fedora 16 alpha without incident. for some reason I cannot download Ubuntu beta2.17:02
tknudsenin the past 24 hours17:03
OerHekstry other mirror ?17:03
tknudsenoerherks, I've tried 8 mirrors at least17:03
tknudsenvirginmedia has one fast server, btw17:04

OerHeksmaybe worth a check > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mirrors17:05

OerHekscan't you resume with the -c parameter ?17:12
tknudsenwget -c helped, thanks17:13
OerHeksyw17:14
OerHeksplease md5sum the iso, to make sure it is errorless17:15
tknudsenoerheks, right. I'll probably transfer again to see if it was the ethernet switch driving me crazy.17:16
tknudsennope, just died again17:16
tknudsenfinished with wget -c, 2x.17:17
tknudsenMy concern here is that I can download any file but an Ubuntu beta2.17:18
tknudsenso, how would I gather forensic information to present such a curious problem?17:19
OerHeksmaybe it is the switch, maybe it is a bad cable17:19
OerHeksdoes this occure to all your machines, or just one17:19
tknudsenswitch is gone, failure continued. Connection is running fast. Great service, otherwise. My other machine is down.17:20
tknudsenbut it will have oneiric server on it soon!17:21
bjsnidertknudsen, i asked if there was an error mesg in dmesg or .xsession-errors that might help explain your issue17:27
TheBuntuwhats the best way to fix broken packages... im geting broken package erorr17:28
tknudsenbjsnider, interesting. Only nautilus errors in there.17:29

tknudsenis there a file that describes which distribution one has on ISO if the filename is not explicit enough?17:37
TheBuntutrying to get gimp 2.7 but this is  ppa:matthaeus123/mrw-gimp-svn giving me gimp-data 2.7.3 so there where im geting erorrs at17:38
bjsniderTheBuntu, that is because gimp 2.7 failed to build on amd6417:39
bjsniderso gimp-data is available but not gimp17:40
TheBuntubjsnider: isent the gimp:i386 supose to be the 32 bit version.. thats what its giving me...17:41
TheBuntubjsnider: last time i used ubuntu 11:04 gimp 2.7 was working on 64 bit and that wasent to long ago.... so if i go back to 11.04 grab gimp 2.7 is it going to work17:44
bjsnideri think gimp failed to build on oneiric but not on natty17:46
bjsniderand since it failed to build it may not work if you install the natty version17:47
jeffrashIf I'm running beta 1, is there anything special I have to do to upgrade to beta 2?17:47
bjsniderno17:47
bjsniderjust run the recommended upgrades17:47
bjsniderbut we're way past beta2 now17:47
bjsnider250 or more updates past it17:47
jeffrashno, 11.10beta2 just came out a few days ago17:48
bjsnideryeah, they do a freeze a few days before the beta spin to make sure it will work and then a large number of updates queue up behind it17:48
charlie-tcaYes, my install yesterday had 199 updates17:49
bjsnidergnome 3.1.92 was packaged after beta217:49
charlie-tcano, it was on the images17:49
bjsnidernot all of it17:49
bjsnidernot mutter and gnome-shell17:49
charlie-tcaoh, well, sure17:50
bjsniderthe packages have been mismatched for quite a while now17:50
charlie-tcasome of it wasn't quite ready yet17:50
bjsnideri think they're all up to 3.1.92 now17:50
TheBuntubjsnider: is there away to grab the 32 bit version17:51
jbichasome less important stuff we just left at 3.1.91 since 3.2 will start showing up tomorrow17:51
bjsnidersudo apt-get install gimp:i38617:51
TheBuntu.17:52
TheBuntuok17:52
bjsniderit's disappointing that he hasn't tried to fix the ftbfs. i think those packages are a few months old now17:53
bjsniderall of the packages he's building against in oneiric would have been updated, probably many times17:54
TheBuntubjsnider: here's what i get with sudo apt-get install gimp:i386    http://pastebin.com/M03vfs2w17:57
bjsniderapt-get -f install17:58
TheBuntusamething17:59
OerHeksdid you remove the ppa:matthaeus123/mrw-gimp-svn ?18:00
TheBuntuno18:01
jbichawell at least it looks like GIMP 2.8 will make it into Persnickety Pitbull http://tasktaste.com/projects/Enselic/gimp-2-818:02
bjsniderjbicha, wait a minute. that's not what it's called, is it?18:03
TheBuntubjsnider: i figured out the problem... python:i386 python-support:i386 are not there.... the rest are18:10
bjsniderpain in the butt18:10
bjsniderbut the real problem is that the package hasn't been updated int he ppa18:11
TheBuntui like the gimp 2.7... because it has better cloning18:11
TheBuntucant i just grab those 2 package from ubuntu's 32 bit repo18:12

gener1ctried to install skype on my 64bit oniric in several ways19:34
hzspI'm not too sure how to diagnose this, or what information to include in a bug report.  perhaps I should just raise the bug and see what happens.19:34

TheBuntuIs it me or in 11.10 is apt-get faster20:20
jtaylormust be you20:22
jtaylorI ahve the feeling its slower ._.20:23
TheBuntureally to me the whole distro seems alittle faster then 11.04 did... but then to use gimp 2.7 i had to go to ubuntu x86 insted of x86_6420:26
yofelit should be slower as multiarch means it has to process twice as much package lists20:28
Rajsundon't know about apt but aptitude sure seems faster though20:29
TheBuntuIm not doing multiarch...... im runing x86 on whole distro20:37
TheBuntucause gimp 2.7 would not work on 64 bit20:38
TheBuntueven gimp:i38620:38
yofelah, I'm fine with 2.6, but I'm on 64bit without multiarch20:44
thiebaudehow do I stop the online keyboard to not come up after I log into Ubuntu 11.10?20:45
TheBuntuI do a lot of photo editing with cloning and 2.7 has better cloning20:49

urlin2uliar, in gnome3 lxappearance ambiance21:18
liarthats strange now... it changed the layout of xchat, chromium and lxapperance itself but nautilus and the unity panel are still weird21:22
urlin2uliar, how did you get to this stae?21:24
urlin2ustate21:24
liarby changing the theme in lxappearance21:24
urlin2uliar, did you check the options there?21:25
urlin2ucolr...etc21:25
urlin2ucolor21:25
liari changed to ambiance on the widget page, changed the icons to loginicons on the icon theme page21:28
urlin2ulooks like highcontrast inverse try ubuntu-mono-dark in icon theme21:28
liarurlin2u: it seems it does not apply the icon settings21:30
urlin2uliar, might ned a restart of X logout this is in development.21:30
urlin2uneed21:30
urlin2uI would not mess with the themes at this point myself and expected it to work perfectly.21:31
liardidn't work either :(21:32
urlin2uliar, you can reset unity with unity --reset to get it back to the install stae.21:33

ubottuLaunchpad bug 858988 in onboard (Ubuntu) "onboard auto-starts by default" [Low,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/85898822:02
jbichaliar: what file browser are you using?22:04
liarnautilus22:04
jbichathat's not how it looks by default22:04
jbichaliar: set your icon theme to Ubuntu-mono-dark22:06
liarjbicha: thats the problem i am having.. changing the icon theme does not have any effect22:07
jbichadid you log out and back in?22:07
liarseveral times, but i used another icon theme, i'll try again with the one you suggested22:08
antibodycheers is the current repos broken? I can only get kde to work gtk apps seg fault right away..(all of them)22:11
IamTrying11.10 i changed the driver but still did not worked.22:14
liarnow i just got that ones: http://codepad.org/pqgk1M3122:20
liarjbicha: i logged out and logged back in and i got automatically logged in into my wlan network and the notification thingy displayed the correct icon but the panel and the launcher did not appear so i rebooted the machine and everything now is back to the previous state22:22
liarafterwards i tried unity --reset again and those messages appeared22:23
liarjbicha: i am wondering why those files are missing...22:26
jbichamessages are fine as long as everything looks ok22:27
antibodymy "ubuntu" session doesn't work lightdm doesn't work for a while same with gdm, only kdm works..but today I updated everything and everything that uses gtk seg fauls in starts22:28
liarjbicha: oh sorry. with previous state i meant it went back to that strange icon theme22:28
antibodycan anyone give me a light?22:28
jbichaliar: stop running unity --reset then, ;-)22:30
liarjbicha: you misunderstood (which is my fault^^). after the reboot the wrong icons where shown again. only after that i tried unity --reset again...22:40
jbichatry running gnome-settings-daemon , it might be crashing for some reason22:43
liarjbicha: that one is running says ps22:45
jbichaliar: does the theme work correctly with a brand new user account?22:47
antibodyhey (again) so my /home was full for a moment gtk apps crashed..and now everything segfaults... which hidden dir should I rm to check if that was the reason? tnx22:48
antibodyexit22:49
liarjbicha: apparently... yes22:50
liarjbicha: in which folder are these configurations? i might just try copying it22:50
jbichaliar: just move ~/.gconf/apps/metacity somewhere else temporarily and see if that works22:53
liarjbicha: chromium looks different now.. but other than that, no change22:58

ModalSurrealistI have an nvidia card and an hdmi slot on my laptop. before installing the nvidia driver the laptop recognized my tv but would not display a picture on it, and now that I installed the "recommended" driver it is only showing one 'unknown' display which is my laptop monitor23:17
ModalSurrealistsuggestions on how to get my hdmi port working?23:17
liarjbicha: now this might be interesting: i do have the same problem when using the classic desktop. but if i start gnome-settings-daemon on the classic desktop session the icons and everything works. but if i am in unity restarting gnome-settings-daemon does not change anything23:20
hasenjwhen trying to upgrade to 11.10, the upgrade fails because apparently some ppas don't have an onieric version? I don't get it, doesn't the upgrade tool disable ppas and other third-party sources?23:21
jbichathe apps you've installed may prevent an automated install, you can update manually23:23
jbichafor instance, old gnome-panel applets won't work any more with gnome-panel 323:24
hasenjhm, ok23:24
hasenjI'm disabling all ppas manually right now ..23:24
hasenji remember running across this when i upgraded to 11.04 as well23:26
