lenI think the last ones screwed up a lot of things.00:01
lenI just checked my history, and 6 different libcanberra packages were updated.00:02
lenGuess that's why firefox and chrome are both having problems with libcanberra00:02
saulotoledoHello! Where I find information about the news into Oneiric? Gnome3 will come?00:03
lenStill not sure what part of the upgrade it was that removed kubuntu-desktop00:03
graftsaulotoledo: gnome3 is in, yes, but you have to install it yourself00:07
lenI'm also getting: [3:3:10055872307:ERROR:nss_util.cc(397)] Error initializing NSS without a persistent database: libsoftokn3.so: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied00:08
lenfrom chrome00:09
lenafter updating00:09
saulotoledograft: I saw Gnome 3.2 and was thinking update, but on Natty I only find ricotz repository with testing packages. If I download Oineric beta now I can install oficial packages?00:10
FernandoMiguelxserver-xorg-input-synaptics update available00:16
FernandoMiguelanyone done it yet?00:16
escott_saulotoledo, 3.2 won't be in 11.1000:17
graftsaulotoledo: looks like it... gnome shell is still 3.1.92, but the rest of it is 3.2.0, looks legit00:17
bjsnider3.2 is already in oneiric00:18
saulotoledoescott_, graft, bjsnider: thanks!! :D00:19
escott_ok nevermind... i thought 3.2 was too late for the cutoff00:19
bjsniderno, because it has been in use all along, in dev versions, with bugs being tracked. it isn't a new surprise00:20
graftit's in the repository, it's not actually in the distribution00:22
lenHmmm.  Firefox works if I run sudo firefox, but not if I run it as a regular user.00:29
lenGuess thats what libsoftokn3.so: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied means.00:31
lenWonder how the upgrade googed that up00:31
bjsniderlen, ls -l /usr/lib/firefox-7.0.1/libsoftokn3.so00:34
lenIt's set to:  -rw-rw-r-- 1 root root00:35
lenWhat is it supposed to be?00:35
bjsnideryou've got 664, i've got 64400:36
bjsniderwhat about ls -l /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nss/libsoftokn3.so00:37
lenI think it has something to do with SSL00:38
bjsniderlen, you have bug 86278000:41
ubottuLaunchpad bug 862780 in Ubuntu "gtk apps no longer working after this morning's updates" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/86278000:41
jbichalen: never run Firefox as sudo, it's a really bad idea00:42
bjsnideryou probably changed some of your userland config files to root's ownership00:43
=== Logan_ is now known as RebeccaBlack
lenI never do, I just did this one time to see if it would load, since the error mentioned permissions00:45
lenHope it didn't muck it up too bad.  Which files would it have  changed permissions on?00:46
lenI mean ownership00:47
bjsniderwell, you'd better check .cache, .config, and .local00:47
jbichalen: you can run ls -l .mozilla to see if any thing is owned by root00:48
bjsniderfirefox subdirectories if they exist00:48
jbichayou can also run tests like that with a new temporary user00:48
jbichaI've not tried it so I can't walk you through it, if you use Firefox Sync you could also move our old .mozilla/firefox to .mozilla/firefox-old and just restore from the Cloud00:49
lenlooks like everything in .mozilla is still used by my user account.  I'm guessing nothing got changed because it crashed before it could change any ownerships. :)00:50
lenLuckily Opera still works, so I'm using that.00:54
jbichawell my Firefox is working here so not sure what's broken on your end00:54
lenOh, wait a minute, FF Didn't crash when I ran Sudo Firefox, so it could have changed some ownerships.  Looks like it didn't though.   I just opened it and shut it down immediately though.00:56
lenIt does sound like 86270, but it don't think it applies to all gtk apps just ones accessing the Internet, because of some permissions issue with SSL00:58
lenI wonder if it's some kind of policy issue rather than file-level permissions00:59
Stanley00j #ubuntu-offtopic01:01
lenI upgraded on two machines.  The both get errors after upgrade, but ff and chrome still continue to launch on one, and not on the other.  I think two different issues where created with the last updates.  One has both, and the other just one.01:01
lenYou won't see the show-stopper issue unless you run from a command line.01:02
saulotoledoHello! I'm trying update ubuntu to +1, I have the ISO file, but I want update without restart the system. Running "update-manager -d" I can install from Internet, but how can I add the ISO file to don't download the files again?01:02
Stanley00len: what's error? there's an update today, maybe you should check01:02
Stanley00saulotoledo: is that an alternate ISO?01:02
saulotoledoStanley00: It's the beta2 iso file :D01:03
Stanley00saulotoledo: I mean, is it an desktop or an alternate ISO?01:03
lenI'll bet you have the libcanberra-gtk-module.so error. That one doesn't stop the show. It's the "Error initializing NSS without a persistent database: libsoftokn3.so: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied01:04
lenError initializing NSS without a persistent database: libsoftokn3.so: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied" error that keeps the browsers from loading.01:04
yofel_len: downgrade libcanberra-gtk-module01:04
yofel_what you're having is bug 86255301:04
ubottuLaunchpad bug 862553 in libcanberra (Ubuntu) "Latest libcanberra update causes Firefox and Thunderbird to crash on startup" [Critical,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/86255301:04
saulotoledoStanley00: Ah ok! It's desktop01:04
Stanley00saulotoledo: you cant upgrade with an desktop image, if you want upgrade off-line, use an alternate iso instead.01:05
yofel_len: also, google-chrome dies with the same libcanberra error after the NSS errors01:05
saulotoledoStanley00: Ok. :) I'm downloading the ISO (it's faster than the net upgrade). And how can I proceed with this iso? I can so just mounting?01:06
lenOK,  I wonder why the other machine I updated also gets the libcnberra error (can see if I run from a terminal) but loads anyway, but other machine the browsers halt?01:06
Stanley00saulotoledo: but you will have to update via internet after you upgrade your system.01:07
lenMachine that works only gets the libcanberra error, but not the NSS errors01:07
yofel_hm, not sure, here they die too with the symbol error, and I get no NSS errors01:08
saulotoledoStanley00: no problem, at least I can see oneiric running already while the upgrade continues xD01:08
lenNSS error are just with chrome01:09
Stanley00saulotoledo: ah, I know, here is how to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NattyUpgrades#Upgrading_Using_the_Alternate_CD.2BAC8-DVD01:09
saulotoledoStanley00: Thanks for help!!! :D01:12

SilentDisActionParsnip: that's not a bad idea, the clean install.  /home is on a seperate drive, after all.  I've been running since... 5.10 i think... and this build is linux-friendly as well.07:04
SilentDisActionParsnip: hey wait... isn't there some utility that kinda 'helps' with that?  generates a script to allow for fast reinstall of everything you currently have on a new install?  I seem to remember such a thing...07:05

ubottuTo replicate your packages selection on another machine (or restore it if re-installing), you can type « aptitude  --display-format '%p' search '?installed!?automatic' > ~/my-packages », move the file "my-packages" to the other machine, and there type « sudo xargs aptitude --schedule-only install < my-packages ; sudo aptitude install » - See also !automate07:09

dashavoolast night I installed upgrades, this morning I realised that I no longer have a window manager13:20
myk_robinsonwow.13:20
myk_robinsonyou may have installed updates in the middle of a cycle and something broke.13:20
myk_robinsonYou able to get a terminal?13:20
myk_robinsonand are you on a wired internet connetion?13:21
dashavoothankfully I can get a terminal, but I am going to have to mess about with wpasupplicant for internet connection13:21
myk_robinsonany way to termporarily get a wired connection? If so you can run this morning's updates and ifx it13:21
myk_robinsonassuming you can, first run    sudo apt-get update13:22
dashavooif it is just a matter of update and upgrade again, I can cope with that13:22
myk_robinsonthen run    sudo apt-get upgrade13:22
dashavooif there is something else, well, we will see13:22
dashavooit was certainly a nasty shock this morning, I can say that13:23
myk_robinsoni have had stuff like that happen before with a beta.. I'll be checking manually for updates almost hourly and pushing stuff to upgrade, hoping that something won't break because i grabbed a few packaged before some other components they needed were ready13:23
dashavooI have had a couple of dodgy upgrades with this lot of betas, but this one was the only one that was beyond the normal expectations with testing software13:24
myk_robinsonit'll definitely happen during xorg upgrade cycles if you catch it at the "wrong" time, if there is such a thing13:25
farciarz84LXDE looks ugly or old-dated :/13:26
farciarz84I'll try kde4 next time13:26
dashavooyeah... funnily enough I had a bad feeling as I was doing the upgrade. I must have seen something out of the corner of my eye that didn't register.13:26

myk_robinsonI must be one of the only people living that actually likes unity :)13:27
dashavoofarciarz84: yes13:27
farciarz84how to install it?13:27
dashavoomyk_robinson: I like the idea of it, and it works great when I am only using my computer for watching films or listening to music, but when I want to work, it just doesn't suit my workflow13:28
dashavoofarciarz84: the easiest way is just to apt-get install kubuntu-desktop I think13:29
myk_robinsondashavoo: I just install synapse and use it for launching stuff anyway, so maybe I dont really use unity.. To many clicks to get to anything, which is why i use synapse as a launcher. At this point, i'd do the same thing in Gnome 3 or KDE4, just so much faster to get to apps I use the most13:29
farciarz84myk_robinson: When sotmething is good it should have option to turn it off ;) On 4:3 screens unity doesn't work good unles it has an option to be moved from left to bottom13:31
myk_robinsonPoint well noted :) I guess Canonical, much like myself, assume that everyone is rockin' widescreen monitors these days13:32
farciarz84for tablets, netbooks, notebooks it hit the spot13:32
farciarz84myk_robinson: I've just bouth 2 new eizo 4:3 :)13:32

albert23farciarz84: Stable Release Update15:04
ubuntu_yes i downloaded updates during the install15:04
ali1234hmm15:05
ali1234i did too15:05
ali1234maybe that was the problem15:05
farciarz84albert23: does SRU can be process from apt-get ?15:05
farciarz84will 12.04 have unity?15:06
ubuntu_ali1234 : are you talking to me?15:06
ali1234yes15:06
ali1234bte "download updates during the install" means exactly that - it *only* downloads them, it doesn't install them15:06
albert23farciarz84: yes, after it has been tested, an SRU becomes available in apt-get and update-manager15:07
ubuntu_i know that , but  some updates require reboot15:08
vividwow, suspending laptop when instructed not to do such things is extremely annoying15:09
ubuntu_and i think any reboot will not save changes (the downloaded packages)15:09
josePHPagodaubuntu_: i was unable to install ubuntu 11.10 when i had the download updates during install marked15:10
ubuntu_(downloaded packages = updates)15:10
ubuntu_yes15:10
ubuntu_no sorry15:10
ubuntu_after the install downloads the update15:11

ubuntu_the installer crushed15:11
josePHPagodayeah15:11
josePHPagodatry installing without any of those boxes marked and see what happens15:11
ubuntu_and then doesn't started15:12
ubuntu_after that15:12
josePHPagodamine did the same thing15:12
josePHPagodabut when I didn't have those marked, it worked15:12
ubuntu_i tried to kill the process15:12
ubuntu_i logged out15:12
ubuntu_and then i logged in again15:13
ubuntu_and i run the installer again15:13
josePHPagodai'm unsure if that will work15:13
josePHPagodai would suggest doing it from a clean slate (rebooting entirely)15:14
ubuntu_ok15:14
ubuntu_i will try15:14
josePHPagodai will try to help you as I can15:14

m4yerand thunderbird (and some other programms) don't get window-decorations ...15:18

ElderDryasInstalled (via update-manager -d) xubuntu 11.10b2 yesterday...all was well. Woke up this morning, turned on the computer and 2 issues: 1) I now have a battery charge icon in the notification area, where there was none before, and the AC is on and the batter is fully charged) and 2) My desktop shows a nice, pretty blue backgound, where it should show a specific jpg file (Desktop in the Settings Manager shows the proper files ad being the proper backg15:21
ElderDryasround). The correct background shows on startup, then the blue background takes over.  All this was before and updates from today (which did not solve these problems).15:21
m4yerjosePHPagoda: same here (even in chromium)15:22
charlie-tcaElderDryas: how many workspaces show now? Did the number change?15:23
ElderDryascharlie-tca: 2 workspaces, no change from what I set up yeaterday15:24
charlie-tcaAs I recall, when I did the upgrade (alpha1), I had to reset my desktop image in Settings -> Settings Manager -> Desktop15:24
ktosiekHi! I need libcurl4-gnutls:i386 (for standalone flashplayer), but it looks like it's missing from repo15:25
ElderDryascharlie-tca: I just removed the battery and the icon in the notification area went away, so maybe it is acutally something to do with the battery, I'll test this with a cojuble of LiveCD/USD later15:25
ktosiekto make things funnier, libcurl4-gnutls-dev _is_ in repo15:25
ktosiek(or I'm using some funny 3rd party repo with those libs, but I don't think so)15:26
josePHPagodai can't install ccsm15:26
josePHPagodaeven though it shows in the software center15:27
ElderDryascharlie-tca: The Desktop says the correct image IS the background, and when I attem[pt to change the backgound the pretty bluse screen (not of death) stays15:27
charlie-tcaElderDryas: There was a lot of changes again in Xfce, even though the version stayed at 4.815:27
josePHPagodam4yer: do you want to file that bug report? or do you want me to? also can you see if it has been filed by someone else already?15:27
ElderDryascharlie-tca: Good :)15:27
ElderDryasBut I work with B2 for about 6 hours yesterday, rebooting several time and the background problem did not show up untell this morning15:28
charlie-tcaElderDryas: can you report a bug for that ? ubuntu-bug xfdesktop415:28
ElderDryasYes, but it will have to be this PM, I have to leave soon for a better job interview :)15:29
charlie-tcaThat will be fine. Thank you15:29

ikoniaMamarok: how odd/interesting16:09

josePHPagodah00k: so no screensavers anymore?16:10

gnominattyin kde you can change font size and type, i did a small test by making all fonts the same type and size in all settings and final result was very consistent16:19
TheSimkinthanks penguin42.16:19
saulotoledoHello! My Gnome3 installation has some problems. This do not works: "Alt + F2" dialog, file previews, multi-protocol (GTalk, MSN, ...) funcionality on desktop, Block screen funcionality, GDM new version... Somebody can help me how to fix each?16:20
ali1234gnominatty: changing the font size just makes alignment issues even worse16:20
ali1234also nearly all KDE apps have something that ignores font settings16:20
TheSimkinali1234: name one?16:20
yofelali1234: where do you find alignment issues? I'm obviously blind to them. And the font settings work perfectly fine here16:20
ali1234TheSimkin: muon package manager16:21
ali1234yofel: http://imagebin.org/17685916:21
gnominattyali1234: like i said, my observation was optimal for the intended purposes of having same font size system wide16:21
yofelok true, the button text is bottom aligned, so not at the same height as the icons. But that should depend on the font size too16:22
ali1234yes, it *does* depend on the font size16:22
ali1234when you change the font size, the text bounces around all over the place16:22
smoserpenguin42, i do not have a bug.16:22
ali1234sometimes it looks bottom aligned, sometimes it looks top aligned16:22
penguin42smoser: Looks like bug 862813 is the one16:22

smoserchimchim64, did you have a bug ?16:23
smoseroh. ok. thanks.16:23
ali1234if you pick *exactly* the right font size you can even get it to be in the middle where it should be16:23
smoserpenguin42,16:23
* yofel would blame Qt TBH16:23
yofelbut I'm not really sure what does the alignment there16:23
ali1234there same thing that does it everywhere else in KDE16:23
ali1234it's the theme16:23
yofelfile a bug against oxygen then16:24
ali1234the only KDE theme that can do font alignment correctly is QTCurve16:24
BluesKajheh, pulseaudio desn't even recognize my souncard. I was gonna give PA a try , but I guess the pa conf files din't notice the changes I made in ~/.asoundrc16:24
ali1234all the other themes are just as bad16:24
BluesKajeven after purging PA16:24
ali1234yofel: do you think i should file a bug on launchpad or on kde bug tracker?16:24
yofelkde, I don't think we do any modifications to oxygen in kubuntu16:25
ali1234yofel: btw the plasma taskbar has similar problems, even though it doesn't use the system theme16:26
ali1234and especially the digital clock plasmoid16:27
ali1234that's just all over the place16:27
yofelok, I can agree with that16:27
ali1234oh great kde uses bugzilla16:31
gnominattybugs.kde.org16:33
ali1234is a bugzilla installation16:33
ali1234what version of kde is in oneiric? 4.7.1?16:34
ali1234or "recent svn"16:34
penguin42ali1234: 4.7.1 for some packages, others say 4.7.1+git11092716:36
penguin42actually, all except for kdepim are 4.7.116:36

d3m0nK:)18:15
d3m0nKdamn18:15
d3m0nKI though it would be out by now18:15
IdleOnebhavesh_: Did you get the package install sorted it out?18:16
d3m0nK11.04 feels so OLD18:16
bhavesh_IdleOne, no18:16
IdleOneCan you pastebin the error you are getting and also what have you tried so far?18:16
bhavesh_IdleOne, Still updating through "sudo apt-get update"18:16
d3m0nKok I'm gonna sleep then18:16
d3m0nK:)18:16
IdleOnebhavesh_: ok well that is progress :)18:17
IdleOned3m0nK: see you in January18:17
bhavesh_IdleOne, I think I wont be able to complete it, its like 250mb.. which takes a long time to download18:17
d3m0nKI've been using Arch... since Ubuntu fell into dark ages with Unity18:17
IdleOneso from dark age to stone age18:18
IdleOne:P18:18
jbichad3m0nK: you can Ubuntu without using Unity18:18
d3m0nKjbicha, yeah I know... but I'm not sure what to expect from Ubuntu as a distro now18:18
nhainesd3m0nK: http://www.thisisthecountdown.com/18:18
d3m0nKUnity is not mature enough to be part of  a stable linux OS18:19
d3m0nK:/18:19
IdleOnestability, awesome community/wiki/forum support, choice of DE with the 5 official flavors...18:19
scUbuntu Software Center says Net connection not available if I connect using wvdial? Is there any solution to this? I am on Ubuntu 11.10 beta218:19
jbichaArch isn't really a stable linux OS either...18:19
d3m0nKI've used Ubuntu since its earliest versions I believe... and I fully support it..18:19
jbichawhat is this stability you speak of?18:19
bhavesh_IdleOne, Can I close terminal when sudo apt-get update is ON, if I need to close my computer?18:20
d3m0nKjbicha, the interface itself...18:20
d3m0nKtry plugging a couple of monitors with unity and start using virtualization18:20
d3m0nKyou'll see exactly what a mess it is18:20
d3m0nKI hope it gets fixed18:20
bjsniderd3m0nK, is arch using gnome-shell?18:20
IdleOnebhavesh_: ctrl-c will cancel whatever process is in progress if you really need to do that.18:20
d3m0nKbecause I like Unity... at least the concept of it18:21
bhavesh_IdleOne, k ty :)18:21
IdleOnebhavesh_: but the update will be stopped18:21
d3m0nKbjsnider, arch is what you make of it18:21
d3m0nKanyway Im not here to talk about Arch18:21
bjsnideryou don't have to use unity in ubuntu18:21
IdleOne!notunity18:21
ubottuUbuntu Oneiric uses GNOME 3 with the !Unity shell by default. To use GNOME Shell on Oneiric, install the "gnome-shell" package and investigate "gnome-tweak-tool". For GNOME Fallback mode, which is similar to GNOME 2, install "gnome-panel". Both packages will place a new entry in the Sessions dropdown on the login window.18:21
alexander__has someone kubuntu 11.10 running18:22
d3m0nKI just dropped in for the  "What's up Ubuntu!" thingy :)18:22
d3m0nKhehe18:22
nhainesI didn't have any trouble using Unity with two monitors.18:22
nhainesOr with virtualization, although I didn't do both at once.18:22
IdleOnealexander__: I was up until last night when I did an update and everything seemed to be broken. any app i tried to run would start and then die within 3 seconds18:22
d3m0nKwhois alexander__18:22
d3m0nK:)18:22
d3m0nKoh18:23
d3m0nKnot the alexander__ i was hoping to find here18:23
d3m0nKhehe18:23
d3m0nKnhaines, maybe it got fixed18:23
nhainesd3m0nK: what was "broken"?18:23
d3m0nKit used to have the top bar popping on top of full screen virtualized systems...18:24
d3m0nKwith multiple screens18:24
d3m0nKthe bug wasn't even given a good priority level back then18:24
d3m0nKseveral other small bugs were there specially with desktop effects enabled...18:25
nhainesDesktop effects are always enabled in Unity.18:26
d3m0nKanyway the 11.04 Ubuntu with Unity was quite a mess... as most would agree...18:26
d3m0nKnhaines, the extras man18:26
IdleOnealexander__: what issues are you having?18:26
d3m0nKI have Oneiric running on my laptop tho... the beta...18:27
d3m0nKso far looks much improved :)18:27
IdleOnealexander__: better to state your problem in here so that others might help if they know.18:27
IdleOneor disconnect and leave us in the dark18:27

d3m0nKI dunno why Interface issues end up in Low Priority18:30
d3m0nK:(18:31
d3m0nKIt's as critical as any18:31
jtaylorthe description seems very low18:31

jtayloralso I'm not affected in oneiric18:32
d3m0nKjtaylor, that is one of the many Unity bugs which are in "Low Priority"... since 11.0418:32
d3m0nKwant me to dig more?18:32
penguin42d3m0nK: If it doesn't actually stop you doing anything it's normally low priority - of course it would be good to fix everything but ones that only look bad are lower18:33
d3m0nKalmost all of them are Virtualization and Dual Screen related18:33

kronosI tried upgrading to oneiric from natty. But my internet connection got disconnected. When i try it again, the update-manager closes after the first step. Please help.18:34
IdleOneback on kde :)18:34
IdleOnethings seem fixed now.18:34
jtaylorkronos: you could try to upgrade via the command line18:34
jtaylorbut first start update-manger in the console and see if there are any errors18:34
kronosjtaylor, ok. will do that. thnx. will the upgrade continue from where it disconnected or will it start again ?18:35
jtaylorit will continue18:35
jtayloreven from partially downloaded packages18:36

d3m0nKthat is the way open source works18:37
d3m0nKhehe18:37
d3m0nKjtaylor, no offense! :)18:37
bhavesh_IdleOne, Everything is working now.. I think I just did rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock &  sudo dpkg --configure -a18:40
IdleOnebhavesh_: glad to hear it :)18:40
nhainesbjsnider: the mono 'i' grows on you pretty quick.18:41
nhainesI didn't like it all when I saw the blog post about it, but having used it for a couple months it's nice.18:42

blizzowI ran update manager today.  It said I had about 250MB of downloads to install.  The upgrade has been going for the last 4 hours or so.  My hard drive light has been on nearly the whole time.  I don't see any problems in dmesg with the disk.  I do however see a debconf -c <defunct> process in Z state in top.  The upgrade is about 2/3 through, but yikes.  I don't want my drive to blow a gasket.19:15
blizzowanyone have any suggestions?19:15
ikoniathe installs hung19:16
ikoniahence the defunct process19:16
blizzowikonia: the installation window shows progress.19:17
blizzowIt's slowly chugging through it.19:17
blizzowJust ever so slowly19:17
jbichaupgrades do take a few hours though19:20
blizzowI've never seen Ubuntu take this long to upgrade.19:24
blizzowIt's been pretty harsh.19:24
blizzowI've also never seen Ubuntu take 5+ minutes to get to a login window.  Which it is doing for me at the moment.19:25
blizzow:(19:25
bjsnidernhaines, it looks like an l with trash above it19:28
Spirit55555Hey, I need some help getting Skype working again after I updated my computer today19:29
Spirit55555People can only hear fractions of what I'm saying19:30
swat_i'm highly confused19:41
swat_i've been running unity 2d on my samsung nc10, in oneiric for sometime19:41
swat_it's felt 'laggy'19:41
swat_best way i can describe it to use19:41
swat_i've switched to unity 'proper' and it's a lot more responsive19:41
swat_go figure.19:41
swat_is it possible that unity is stabilising faster in the main branch than 2d19:45
swat_in which case we could end up with the slightly insane situation where someone with a lower-spec machine is actually better off choosing the main unity over the suppposedly more lightweight implementation19:45
bjsniderswat_, it certainly seems to be the case in your circumstances19:46
swat_yeah, it is very weird...19:47
jbwivanyone know how to get unity2d to work reliably across three monitors in 11.10? I can login but can't seem to click anything19:55
josePHPagodajbwiv: what are you using to drive the 3 monitors (just curious)20:08
jbwivjosePHPagoda: two nvidia cards20:10
blizzowA steering wheel and some unleaded.20:10
jbwivblizzow: that too ;-)20:10
josePHPagodai was wondering if you were able to get something like a quadro driving 3 screens20:12
josePHPagoda(rumor is that the open drivers can do it, and that the closed drivers can't)20:12
josePHPagodawanting to confirm20:12
josePHPagodabut I don't have 3 screens20:12
josePHPagodajust two20:12
josePHPagoda:-(20:12
h00kI lol'd at the 'steering wheel and unleaded'. Just sayin'20:13
IdleOnewould get better mileage if you convert it to diesel20:14
josePHPagodayou could even run it on used vegetable oil20:14
metelliusmy system has been pretty handicapped for about a month now; both amd64 entries and i386-versions of packages show up in aptitude, and any attempt at upgrading most packages make it go wild trying to remove tons of packages, such as libc6 etc. in addition, aptitude often spews out messages on top of the curses interface about errors in internal solver20:16
metelliusis it supposed to have both 64bit and 32bit packages like that?20:16
metelliusI can't see any traces of any such selection in my sources.list20:16
jtaylorits supposed to be like that20:17
jtaylorshould be set in /etc/dpkg/dgpk.conf or its subdirs20:17
jtaylorbut the removing of libc etc should not be :/20:17
metelliusmultiarch stuff20:18
metelliusI guess thats that20:18
jtayloryes20:18
metelliusI have no idea what makes it want to remove all those packages though20:18
yofelaptitude can't handle conflicts + multiarch20:18
metelliusso far I've been using just apt-get to work around it20:18

metelliusaaaaaah20:19
yofeldisable multiarch (unless you need it) and aptitude will work fine20:19
metelliuswas there ever a discussion whether it was a bad idea to turn on by default?20:19
jtaylorby disabling it you might lose some propriatary packages like skype and flash20:20
yofelif you don't have it on skype and flash are uninstallable by now20:20
metelliushmm20:20
metelliussynaptic also fails as a sidenote20:20
metelliusor actually, never mind, I just didn't understand the problem before20:22
metelliusnow I see that it actually does separate the multiarch stuff20:23
metelliusthanks a lot guys, this cleared it up for me20:23
soeeis there ubunut one client for kubuntu ?20:35
yofelthere isn't20:40

Rods_Tigerthen I did an update, now it's gone22:09
nhainesRods_Tiger: you will need to restart the machine before troubleshooting can proceed.22:14

saulotoledourlin2u: ok :)23:12
penguin42saulotoledo: if you do ifconfig -a what do you see (don't paste it all!)23:14
saulotoledopenguin42: I can't paste, I'n in my netbook to come to chat xD    I can see eth0 and lo :D23:16
penguin42saulotoledo: Good - the fact that you can see eth0 is promising23:16
saulotoledopenguin42: ifconfig eth0 up worked!!!! let me test!23:17
DeviceZer0rebooting to a older kernel seems to have fixed sound23:17
DeviceZer0:}23:17
penguin42saulotoledo: the system bus thing is a little odd; when do you get that?23:17
saulotoledopenguin42: I dont know in reality, I just updated to oneiric, updated some packages (gno me and KDE and some libs) and shutdown my computer.... Now my system stops with "Waiting for network config" at boot and when press F2 I see this message a lot of times... and my system do not boot. I can acess Ctrl+Alt+F1 and use the system in text mode23:20
penguin42hmm - do systems normally wait for netowkr config during boot?23:21
penguin42saulotoledo: Was this an upgrade from 11.04 ? Did you do anything odd to it?23:21
DeviceZer0Iam using the nvidia driver...it worked fine...i updated my system which updated the kernel..and the nvidia driver works fine with the newer kernel...however sound does not work in the new kernel so im booted into the older kernel...and sound works..however the nvidia driver does not seem to be working23:22
DeviceZer0how i can reinstall the driver for this kernel?23:22
saulotoledopenguin42: Yes, from 11.04.... But I have some extra repositories at source.list... But I'm not certainly about, the repositories are for VLC Player, Wine, X Updates, Unetbootin, Medibuntu, Openshot, Google Stable and Webmin23:24
penguin42saulotoledo: Bad move! it's always a good idea to take the extra repos out before update and hten add them back23:25
saulotoledopenguin42: Maibe the problem come with them.... :(  I've added them after system upgrade.... Do you have some idea about what package could cause the dbus error?23:26
saulotoledo*Maybe23:27
penguin42saulotoledo: Well, dbus I think23:27
penguin42saulotoledo: I suspect though ti might be an ordering problem with upstart rules - something waiting for networking before it should maybe23:28
saulotoledopenguin42: My dbus package it's from oneiric repository... I don't know well how this works, could you direct me to another package to check?23:30
penguin42saulotoledo: upstart I guess, but I would try doing initctl list   and seeing what state all the jobs are in - but I'm no good at debugging upstart23:30
saulotoledoupstart and initramfs are from oneiric too. My network it's working after up eth0 and configure route and nameserver. I will enter this room from there to paste info23:33

penguin42saulotoledo: I know what many of them are, just not how to debug startup23:41
penguin42blizzow: I've not seen anyone else say it to do23:42
penguin42today23:42
blizzowIt's been going on for me for a week or two now.23:42

saulotoledopenguin42: Can I fix manually?23:47
yofelDeviceZer0: although I'm not sure if that's the right syntax23:47
penguin42saulotoledo: I don't know - it's not a symlink for me! Did you manually setup networking with webmin?23:48
DeviceZer0yofel, i ended up uninstaling the package and reinstalling it23:48
DeviceZer0which worked23:48
yofelyeah, that would trigger dkms as well ^^23:48
