Sarvatterrrrr00:09
Sarvatt  * ia32-libs-multiarch also recommends libgl1-mesa-glx (LP: #821100)00:09
Sarvattnot installable on amd64?00:10
SarvattOH libgl1-mesa-glx is but libgl1-mesa-dri isn't, my bad00:10
Sarvattcnd: oh did it?! so doing the 11.04 to 11.10 compiz profile transition worked, but doing it via a lightdm boot wouldn't do the transition properly?00:12
cndSarvatt: I don't really understand what all you're meaning00:12
cndI don't know much about how unity is supposed to work, especially at upgrade00:12
Sarvattwhen you did compiz --replace it did the profile transition instead of bailing with the EXT_tfp not available error00:12
Sarvattthat log of compiz --replace you posted earlier said it was doing a profile transition00:13
cndone complication: when I upgraded, intel kernel module thought it would be an awesome time to lose the framebuffer00:13
cndso halfway through my upgrade, I lost my graphics output00:13
cndand I of course used upgrade-manager00:13
cndso I had to kill it, run dpkg --configure -a00:14
cndthen reboot00:14
Sarvatthttp://pastebin.ubuntu.com/699239/ that was your first compiz run after the upgrade, starting unity/compiz via lightdm bailed before it could do the transition and it worked after the transition is what i get from what you're saying00:14
cndso I don't know if I missed anything in there00:14
cndSarvatt: that sounds right00:14
Sarvattoh00:14
Sarvattguess some 11.04->11.10 upgrade tests are in order00:15
Sarvatttransition being this from the log: Checking if settings need to be migrated ...yes00:16
SarvattCompiz Migration Script for Ubuntu 11.0400:16
SarvattMoving settings from Compiz 0.8.6 to Compiz 0.9.400:16
RAOFSarvatt: That transition looks to be because cnd was running unity in a VT, which doesn't have access to the dbus session bus, and hence uses a different config backend.00:16
Sarvatthere's hoping it was all because of the busted update-manager -d and manua dpkg --configure -a after..00:19
cndmy laptop keeps suspending randomly...00:21
cndthe one I just updated00:21
cndanyone been having issues with that?00:21
SarvattRAOF: jbicha's cr48 isn't much different than cnd's system00:21
Sarvattcnd: yeah00:21
Sarvattdigging up the bug00:21
Sarvattgnome-control-center bug00:21
RAOFSarvatt: Right; both use the Intel IGD thingy.00:22
Sarvatt945gm00:22
Sarvattwell for cnd, pineview for cr48 i guess00:22
cndmine's a gma 315000:23
cndwhatever that means :)00:23
Sarvattoh both pineview then00:23
Sarvattthought you were on a mini9 sorry00:24
Sarvatthttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/86022700:24
ubot4Launchpad bug 860227 in gdm (Ubuntu) "greeter session puts the host to sleep after 30 minutes idle (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [High,New]00:24
Sarvattthat isnt the bug i'm thinking of though00:24
Sarvattstill digging00:24
cndthat could be the bug though00:26
Sarvattcnd: https://launchpad.net/bugs/86048500:27
ubot4Launchpad bug 860485 in gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu Oneiric) (and 2 other projects) "bad default setting: suspend after 30min when plugged in (affects: 22) (dups: 1) (heat: 116)" [High,Triaged]00:27
cndoh, it's a setting...00:27
cndI should have checked...00:27
cndhmmm… it's set to 30 min on battery, never when plugged in00:28
cndI don't think it knows I'm plugged in though00:28
cndthe power indicator says "Battery (charged)"00:28
bdmurraycnd: did you say to test with geistest and not gesturetest?00:34
cndbdmurray, I would normally point people to use geistest00:34
cndgesturetest will actually go away in 12.0400:35
bdmurrayand what would I expect to see from geistest?00:35
cndgesture events?00:35
cndup to two touches when in unity (cause 3 and 4 touch gestures are grabbed by unity)00:35
bdmurrayokay must not be working, thanks (gotta run)00:36
cndok00:36
cndbdmurray, if geistest crashes, it is due to a bug we haven't had time to fix yet00:36
cndlisten only on the root window instead00:36
cndgeistest -w <root window id>00:36
cndwhich you can get from xwininfo -root00:37
Sarvattok we have no 32 bit accelerated GL without proprietary drivers now02:26
Sarvatton amd6402:26
Sarvatthttps://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/oneiric-changes/2011-September/010633.html02:26
Sarvattwant to use wine? sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates02:28
Sarvattpretty crappy user experience :(02:28
Sarvattis multiarch libpciaccess really that risky?02:30
RAOFMesa's still in ia32-libs, though, right?02:30
Sarvattno DRI libs at least02:31
Sarvattactually that should have removed the /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1 too since thats what the bug its fixing called for02:32
Sarvatti'll file a sync request tomorrow when its not 5 gin and tonics into the night and see where it goes :)02:41
* Sarvatt started tonight and realized a bug saying it'd be retarded not to do it isn't exactly convincing past final freeze02:54
bjsnideri thought the point of multiarch was to get rid of ia32-libs, not to keep using it02:58
Sarvattit is, except libdrm-intel1 grew a libpciaccess0 dependency in 2.4.26 so libgl1-mesa-dri wasn't installable after that, and multiarch libpciaccess just got into debian a few days ago, and was forgotten about until recently because the people that cared had it install already :P03:01
bjsniderwhy did libdrm-intel1 need libpciaccess0 all of a sudden?03:03
Sarvatthttp://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/drm/commit/?id=9d77603d8b95aee4f2408e437c55af15ee05b60803:03
bjsniderdo ati and nvidia not need it too?03:03
Sarvattis it used in x-x-v-intel 2.5.16 in oneiric? nope03:04
Sarvatt2.16 whoops03:05
bjsniderrevert?03:05
bjsnidersometimes it seems like intel just does whatever it wants and doesn't care about anybody else's schedule03:07
Sarvattits nicer than no release schedule at all though, at least you know mesa/xserver will be released when intel has quarterly performance reviews to complete now :)03:13
Sarvattwhen is the next mesa/xserver release? go to intellinuxgraphics.com and look at when their quarter ends03:14
