[04:53] anyone here who can add some fixes to mythtv? [04:53] v4l2 support is disabled [04:54] analogTV does not work anymore [04:54] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythtv/+bug/869675 [04:54] [bugs.launchpad.net] Bug #869675 in mythtv (Ubuntu): “MythTV V4L2 Bug (specific to Ubuntu!)” [05:05] mrand, on what build? [05:05] mrec, ^^ [05:12] tgm4883: natty amd64 [05:12] latest [05:13] mrec, you've updated to the latest from !repos? [05:13] !repos [05:13] The Mythbuntu team provides updates for MythTV and Mythbuntu package using the Mythbuntu Repos http://mythbuntu.org/repos [05:14] And are you sure it's V4L2 that is disabled and not V4L1? [05:14] ahm.. how about fixing it in natty directly? [05:14] mrec, how about not [05:15] the intention was to remove v4l1 sure ^^ [05:15] but someone screwed up [05:15] tgm4883: not good idea because there are still users [05:15] and complaining to us that analogTV does not work [05:15] mrec, complaining to you? [05:15] who are you? [05:15] we are selling devices which work with linux [05:16] that's why I had a look at it... [05:16] otherwise I wouldn't care ^^ [05:16] mrec, why not use the repo we have provided the fix in? [05:17] they are using it it's fine but why not also fix it in natty? [05:17] mrec, because mythtv changes too frequently in the fixes branch to try and backport everything to the official Ubuntu repos [05:18] That PPA I linked is the official Mythbuntu team provided mythtv updates repo [05:18] FWIW, it is fixed in the oneiric repos [05:21] best would be to remove mythtv from natty in that case and just use the new repos [05:22] normal users don't know what's going on with mythtv in advance since noone tells them so they need to start to investigate [05:22] mrec, I disagree [05:23] nevermind problem solved, thanks for the link [05:23] Removing it from the Ubuntu repos would mean that A) we wouldn't be working to have everything close to Ubuntu and have the ability to seemlessly transisition between Ubuntu and Mythbuntu, and more importantly B) Mythbuntu couldn't release ISOs [05:24] mrec, but yea, I'm glad that helped. I always recommend updating to the latest builds when bugs are encountered [05:42] mrec, to add to what tgm4883 said above, we don't have the resources to go and QA every patch upstream puts out in the -fixes branch as is required by ubuntu SRU process [05:43] that patch that was in natty was developed before upstream fixed the V4L2 problem properly, and it was a stop gap solution to fix a "majority" of device holders [05:43] so that's why we have the mythbuntu PPA, it contains automated builds of as close to upstream as possible (minimal patching for paths and a few other ubuntu specifics) === li_wid--_ is now known as likwid--
