=== IdleOne is now known as pangolin [05:29] so, can I rotate my screen in Xfce? [05:39] SMJ: sure you can [05:40] you can do it from the command line with xrandr [05:40] or use a gui like arandr [05:40] !info arandr [05:40] arandr (source: arandr): Simple visual front end for XRandR 1.2. In component universe, is optional. Version 0.1.3-1 (natty), package size 43 kB, installed size 280 kB [06:52] anybody having problems with thunar opening slow and producing two windows? === alphabetical_ome is now known as c933103 [12:47] is there discussion anywhere that any of you know of regarding the bluetooth issues in OO I can follow? [13:30] yo [13:31] guys does anyone is having bad windows display after last update? [13:42] charlie-tca, you there? hi :) [13:42] Hello, focalt [13:43] I made a fresh harddisk install of xubuntu lucid 64bit [13:43] and also allowed the latests updates to take place [13:43] one of them was xorg something [13:44] and since then, I have bad windows displaying [13:44] what's wrong? I guess it has to do with X... [13:44] What does bad windows mean? [13:44] when I drag them around [13:45] or scroll down [13:45] are they twisted, wrong color, no title bar, no menu? [13:45] the content when scrolled down has "bad framerate" [13:46] also when I drag them around [13:46] while browsing it kind of anoying, cause you are reading and you loose text reading flow... [13:49] bad framerate is video card related. Either it needs the hardware drivers, or it is going bad. [13:57] charlie-tca, but the strange is, when I open a .pdf for example [13:58] it scrolls smooth [13:58] but not on browser or windows manager [13:59] Different apps use different methods to manage the video [13:59] I'll ask #xorg guys what they think [14:37] When is the release candidate for oneiric expected? [14:43] It isn't [14:43] We will have final candidates next week, with the final release on Thursday, October 13 [14:44] ah ok, is the beta stable enough? [14:44] No, the dailies should be though [14:44] !daily [14:44] !daily [14:45] well, anyway... [14:45] :) [14:45] I should be able to google that... [14:45] http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily-live/current/ [14:45] cool thanks [14:45] you are welcome [14:46] Daily builds of the CD images of the current development version of Xubuntu are available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily/current/ and http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily-live/current/ [14:46] lol [14:47] a little bit slow [14:47] :) [15:03] off to install xubuntu and hope to get some sanity back on my desktop... ;) [15:03] :) [15:08] A quick question (of no real significance, just curiosity): Is the LDM login by default on the left side of the screen? [15:11] in Ubuntu it is, In Xubuntu, it should be centered [15:11] hmmm, lemme see what I using :) [15:12] nope, looks like Xubuntu to me [15:12] If you upgrade, you might have gotten unity-greeter, which will be on the left [15:12] I used update-manager -d (or whatever the command really was) [15:13] That's upgrade from 11.04, so yes, it is on the left. [15:14] Maybe that is why Ubuntu Tweak says I'm using GNOME 2.32.1 Ubuntu 2011-04-14 as my DE [15:15] I don't know that one [15:15] you can install lightdm-gtk-greeter to replace unity-greeter and get the Xubuntu lightdm theme [15:16] Ah, I think I'll wait for the release and just do a re-install [15:16] That works too, or grab the daily starting monday and do the re-install [15:17] I WANT to compete with everyone for server access immediately after the release :) [15:19] hmm...says lightdm-gtk-greeter is installed. Any way to make that the default [15:19] Well then waiting it the correct way to do it :) [15:20] I think 'dpkg-reconfigure lightdm' or 'dpkg-reconfigure lightdm-unity-gtk-greeter', but I won't promise it works [15:46] HI EVERYBODY! [15:46] Well, that didn't work :( [15:47] charlie-tca, Any reason to wait for Monday's daily build (as opposed to today's)? [15:48] Hey, guys, where can i thank the main developers of xubuntu? i'm very happy with it === xGrind is now known as xGrind-off [15:49] ElderDryas: more changes being uploaded to lightdm and other apps [15:49] ah, thanks [15:50] mario__: this is a good place. I will pass your thanks along [15:50] :D [15:50] it's been great [15:50] and gmusicbrowser is my favorite, it has it all!!!! [15:50] thanks to those who offer this incredible product for the sake of quality only [15:51] You are very welcome. We are glad you find it useful! [15:52] have a great day, charlie-tca [15:52] bye === cody-somerville_ is now known as cody-somerville [17:18] I'm looking for a menu editor for xubuntu (11.04). I know xubuntu folks recommend alacarte, but apt-get says that it will install 88 new packages, consuming 60MB of disk (including evolution-data-server and gnome-power-manager). Isn't there something more lightweight and Xubuntu-ish? Thanks for any suggestions. [17:19] synaptic didn't produce any search results? [17:19] mecklen: For Xfce 4.8, 'sudo apt-get install alacarte --no-install-recommends' in a terminal will let you use an editor to change the menus. [17:19] not that i ever needed to edit any menus... [17:20] copy .desktop file(s) from /usr/share/applications to ~/.local/share/applications and add NoDisplay=true to item you want to hide [17:21] Hello all [17:21] charlie-tca: Works like a charm! Thank you! [17:21] You are welcome [17:21] how can i switch menu language to Greek? [17:27] xaris: you can select your language at the login screen [17:48] TheSheep i log in automatical [17:48] i installed glome-language selector but no luck [17:52] xaris: well, then log out, log in setting the language, and it will remember it [17:52] i do it i installed greek and i put them to first line but nothing changed [18:18] Is it possible to list directories by reference to filesystem device? "ls /dev/sdb2" doesn't get you there. [18:20] open a shell into the device [18:20] I don't remember how right off hand though [18:20] then just "ls -a" once inside [18:21] Purpose is, want to write a script to output file listing contents of thumb drive without having to know the name of the volume, just where it's plugged in. [18:21] ronsonol, is it a thumb drive? [18:21] nvm [18:21] lol [18:21] should be possible...google it.lol [18:22] Yeah, I was not sure what *terms* to search. [18:22] ls /media/*/ ? [18:22] he want's to do it without knowing the name of the device.. [18:22] that's why * [18:22] just the location [18:22] What if there are multiple devices mounted in /media? [18:23] Sysi that would probably work. Kinda greedy. [18:23] that would list all of them [18:23] who know's which is which [18:23] or just fail [18:23] it failed for me [18:24] ls: cannot access /media [18:24] works for me, with one stick [18:24] brb [18:24] It would depend on having the device(s) actually mounted in /media [18:25] with two it shows partition names too [18:25] charlie-tca that's where they tend to automount tho. [18:26] I guess it's an academic thing now, but I am curious if there's a way to do it on the basis of device location. [18:27] dude. just do lsusb [18:27] nvm, that just lists the devices that are mounted [18:28] mount and some grep.. if there isn't some nice way [18:28] * ronsonol mans lsusb [18:32] okay, I'm gonna go hack away at this. FWIW, ultimate aim regards http://www.deaddrops.com -- jack into a dead drop, dump the directory, upload that to another dead drop to say what's over there. [19:48] i'm trying to figure out why firefox/xubuntu is chugging so hard on my netbook [19:48] could it be because i have no swap? [19:49] how much ram, what cpy, what websites? [19:49] i've got 2 tabs open, gmail and facebook, i know those are javascript heavy, but i wouldn't think they'd slow to a crawl like they do [19:49] *cpu [19:49] open taskmanager and see cpu usage [19:49] using ~400megs of 1 gig of ram [19:49] also what firefox version? [19:49] processor is a 1.6ghz intem atom [19:49] firefox 7.0.1 [19:50] cpu is showing 2 cores which seems innacurate, but they are fluctuating between 20-70% [19:51] they're both caping ouut when i browse pages on facebook [19:51] is facebook really that cpu intensive? [19:51] I think it is [19:51] you could try mobile page.. and adblock [19:52] using adblock [19:52] try taking it off [19:52] add the swapfile, it will make a world of difference [19:53] not on atom.. maybe if it's new one [19:54] it's an eeepc 901 [19:55] disabling flash helped some [19:56] you could try chromium, even if FF7 is fast [19:57] chromium is fast, but it hogs too much memory, i recently switched off of it [19:58] ah, system monitor is responsible for a lot of cpu usage, haha, just switched to a panel plugin instead [19:58] I tried changing .xsession in Xubuntu but when I logged out and back in, the .xsession file was not executed === raevol1 is now known as raevol [21:10] I'm installing xubuntu 11.04 [21:13] :) [21:38] it's installing on a old Pentium 4 Micron computer [21:50] xubuntu runs the best on it.. I tried running it from a usb stick and it worked great...so I am installing from that.. I like it better than the ubuntu install.. xfce is nice and light [21:51] Nikyo, glad to hear you are enjoying xubuntu [21:53] i am.. been using linux since red hat 5.0 [23:25] hello i'm new installing Xubuntu and i want to try if my tvcard is compatible. In this page it say it is. But i do'nt understand what they mean about the modules: tuner_xc2028 and cx8800. how can I install those o what I need to do to enable them? the page is this one http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Powercolor_Real_Angel_330 [23:37] Zetacu: you have xubuntu installed now?
