sammybrand new package with no existing version in Ubuntu's repositories (will be uploaded with the .orig.tar.gz file): debuild -S -sa <- that means no existing version of this package of this version, right? if bob1.2 is in ubuntu, and i'm making a package for bob1.4 (not in ubuntu), I should be using -S -sa, not -S -sd, right?06:26
RAOF-sa means "include .orig.tar.gz in the _source.changes file", which means "I'm going to upload an .orig.tar.gz for this", which is what you need to do when that version is not in the archive yet, yes.06:28
sammyRAOF: huzzah, thank you. and to be clear, when I set the version number, I only need to do it in the changelog? debuild will pull the -ubuntu1ppa1 from there? I couldn't figure out where else to define the version.06:29
RAOFThe changelog entry is what defines the version.06:29

sammyoh I knew I had one more: it says if this can be used in any version I dont have to append natty... I'm assuming thats not the case for most things? if it should be obvious to me, its not. I'm guessing that only stands true for some things like low-level libraries with few if any dependencies06:46
sammy(sorry I'd ask in ubuntu-packaging but theyre all asleep)06:47
RAOFOr if it builds against stable-ABI; many things which build against GNOME would qualify there.06:47

rbasakCan someone look at bug 862129 please? I've found many duplicates and a new one comes in about once a day. I think it's going to break a significant number of upgrades to oneiric given how many bug reports we're getting from testers.09:56

slangasektseliot: hey there - why is the /usr/share/grub-gfxpayload-lists/blacklist/00_header not sufficient to explain how to blacklist cards?10:01
slangasektseliot: I don't understand why you want to re-add a slave link to an empty blacklist file; if you actually need it, you could add it back to the packaging then?10:02
tseliotslangasek: because this is a feature OEM should be able to use without my involvement. If they want to blacklist a card, they simply put the id in that file and that's it10:03
slangasektseliot: ah.  Well, I'm not sure I agree this is the way to do it, but ok :)10:05
tseliotslangasek: ok, I'll make sure to change all proprietary drivers (8 packages) so that they have our changes10:07
slangasektseliot: ok.  Note that CD mastering is already in progress, and I don't think reverting this warrants restarting that process, so nvidia-current (the one I converted already) should be done to oneiric-proposed or held until precise10:09
tseliotslangasek: I don't think the drivers are on the cd. Are you referring to the dvd image?10:10
slangasektseliot: they're on mythbuntu, ubuntustudio, and DVDs (maybe only on the Kubuntu DVD?)10:11
slangasekmaybe that change could still be accepted... should be coordinated with #ubuntu-release, anyway10:11
OdyXpitti, tkamppeter: would it make sense (aka "would you have time") to discuss http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Printing/RethinkingTheStack before oneiric's release?10:11
slangasekbut even so, it's not a critical fix so I don't think it warrants a final freeze exception10:12
tseliotslangasek: ok. It's not a critical fix as only nvidia-current will get the bootsplash, the other 7 driver still won't (unless there are other regressions that my previous changes caused, that is)10:13
slangasektseliot: setting FRAMEBUFFER=n in the initramfs also breaks initramfs prompting for anyone with a crypted root filesystem10:15
slangasekso I think the other packages ought to be fixed for that as well10:16
tseliotslangasek: no doubt they should be fixed, the only question is when the fix should land10:17
slangasektseliot: if they're not on the images, there's still time to fix them before release10:17
slangasekfglrx-installer seems to also affect the kubuntu DVD10:18
tseliotslangasek: I can do it today. I expect the -updates flavours not to be on any image but the non -updates flavours should affect the images, as you said10:19
tseliotas in fglrx-updates vs fglrx10:19
slangasektseliot: right, only fglrx and nvidia-current are on any images, the other variants (-updates, and the older nvidia flavors) are not10:23
tseliotslangasek: so, shall I upload only fglrx and nvidia-current to oneiric-proposed and the rest to oneiric?10:24
slangasektseliot: I think that's best, yes10:24
tseliotslangasek: ok, thanks for your help10:25

fishorhallo all, i investing some time to make vp8 work better. there are some patches upstream now (gstreamer), but there are also some not. In current ubuntu beta, gstreamer webm and matroska muxer has one bug. If you create high quality vp8 stream it will be partially brocken. I have a patch to fix it. This patch will not go to upstream becouse i need to make it per stream choice, not per file (as long term solution). my question do will actual12:31

jdstrandpitti: sorry to bother you again, but I added a comment to https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/umask-to-0002. I feel like there is a bug here, but I'm not sure where19:33
jdstrandpitti: I noticed that /etc/dpkg/origins/* were group writable with 6.4ubuntu4, but not 6.4ubuntu5. I tracked this down to dpkg-source -x applying a umask, which is different for various developers. eg, mvo apparently is using 0002, but cjwatson 002219:35
micahgnatty vs oneiric dev machine?19:35
jdstrandof course dpkg-source clearly says it will do that, but the changed default umask in the distro is changing permissions for installed packages19:36
jdstrandmicahg: doubtful-- I would think cjwatson is using oneiric19:36
jdstrandone could argue it is a packaging bug if it doesn't set the permissions correctly, and that is true, but I worry that this could result in security issues (eg, something that should have group read only, but all of a sudden gets group write)19:39
cjwatsonI'm using oneiric but I have an explicit umask 022 in .bash_profile for some reason19:42
