PjotrHello, I installed Xubuntu Oneiric today, with the daily build of yesterday evening. I noticed two issues:14:54
Pjotr1. the wireless network data (SSID and key) weren't transferred from the live session to the hard disk installation (previous installs of Xubuntu did that fine): at the end of the installation, I received an error message stating that the transfer of network data had failed.14:54
Pjotr2. In Xubuntu, Firefox didn't contain the Dutch spell checking dictionary (in a Dutch localized system). I had to install it manually afterwards. The same Firefox in Ubuntu, *did* contain this dictionary. So this issue is Xubuntu-only. My guess is, that this happens in all languages, not only in Dutch.14:54
charlie-tcaNew images for testing just came out. Plese download/sync if you are testing these final candidates.14:59
Pjotrcharlie-tca: the images here, are still those of yesterday evening: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily-live/current/15:01
charlie-tcanope15:02
charlie-tcayeah15:03
charlie-tcagive them a minute to refresh maybe.15:03
charlie-tcathe new images just hit, and it takes a few minutes for them to sync to current15:03
charlie-tcaIf you look at http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily-live/, you see the ones dated for today15:04
PjotrOK... Do they address the two issues I just reported?15:04
charlie-tcaand I would know because? they just got posted...15:04
charlie-tcaI know for sure between the time you posted the issues here and the respin finished, nothing was done15:05
PjotrI found them, thanks... 15:06
PjotrDo you happen to know if they address the two issues I just mentioned here?15:06
charlie-tcaNo, I don't. They have been respinning to much for me to even test them15:08
PjotrOK, I'll do a fresh install and then report back here.15:09
PjotrHello, I've just freshly installed Xubuntu Oneiric, daily build of this afternoon16:09
Pjotrthe issue of the transfer of the wireless data, has been solved16:10
charlie-tcagreat!16:10
charlie-tcahowever, ...16:10
Pjotrbut not the issue of the Firefox spell dictionary: only in Xubuntu, Firefox didn't contain the Dutch spell checking dictionary (in a Dutch localized system). I had to install it manually afterwards. The same Firefox in Ubuntu, *did* contain this dictionary. So this issue is Xubuntu-only. My guess is, that this happens in all languages, not only in Dutch.16:10
Pjotrcharlie-tca: lol16:11
PjotrAnd another thing, which I've noticed all along in all Oneiric builds: Oneiric-backports were enabled by default. Is this intentional? Backports never ever were enabled by default in *buntu.16:12
charlie-tcamicahg: what about a 0day SRU to enable the languages in firefox for Xubuntu?16:14
charlie-tcaPjotr: we probably enabled them by mistake16:14
Pjotrcharlie-tca: Same in Ubuntu Oneiric, as I recall.... Backports are not a good thing for a stable system.16:15
charlie-tcaI don't think it is a big deal, since backports is empty until we get to this point anyway16:16
charlie-tcaEven enabled, an empty repository has no effect16:17
PjotrOK, but this changes after final release...16:17
charlie-tcayes, 16:19
charlie-tcait will start filling up, and then enabled can be very bad16:19
charlie-tcamr_pouit: we have backports enabled in the final images16:19
madnickhow is the spreadsheet for today? should one change it? it doesnt have any date field16:19
charlie-tcaWe use the ISO tracker only this week16:20
madnickiso tracker?16:20
madnick:P16:20
charlie-tcahttp://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/16:20
madnickoh okay16:20
* charlie-tca is still syncing...16:23
PjotrHave to go. Good luck with the final polishing; Xubuntu Oneiric is already mighty fine, and will be a great success!16:30
charlie-tcaThank you for testing today16:30
=== xrdodrx_ is now known as xrdodrx
pleia2charlie-tca: who all has access to the drupal site? I have a company meeting on thursday so I am going to be away for a few hours, possibly when release happens and we need the announcement posted17:51
charlie-tcayou, cody-somerville, vinnl unless vinnl lost his password again17:51
knomehow does chrome compare to epiphany/midori memorywise?17:53
charlie-tcaknome: how good is your memory? did I get the access list right?17:56
knomethat sounds about right17:57
charlie-tcaI don't the memory requirements for browsers. I haven't used chrome, I used epiphany a number of years ago, and I try midori each release.17:58
knomeright17:59
charlie-tcabut I am hoping someone else does know. :)17:59
knomemy eeepc has 512MB mem, and i'd need to get a decent fast browser17:59
madnick512MB RAM, same as mine then, I use netsurf18:00
knomeis it cli? :P18:00
madnickit can be :)18:00
madnickdoes not have to be18:00
knomeright18:00
madnickhttp://www.netsurf-browser.org/about/screenshots/images/framebuffer-bbc.png18:00
madnickthere is framebuffer version18:00
madnickhttp://www.netsurf-browser.org/about/screenshots/images/gtk-bbc.png18:00
madnickgtk version18:00
knomehow well does it know the new css3/html5 stuff?18:01
madnickYou had to ask :(18:01
knomehaha18:01
charlie-tcanetsurf appears to be in Oneiric, too18:01
knomeyeah, i had to, because i need to show off a css3/html5 site with that browser :P18:01
madnickWell, afaik they are trying to keep pace with HTML5/CSS318:01
knomebtw, one more bomb18:01
knomei have lucid :P18:01
knomewell, i don't need the css3 stuff to work18:02
knomeas long as anything doesn't break horribly.18:02
charlie-tcanetsurf | 1.2-1build1 | lucid/universe | source, amd64, armel, i386, ia64, powerpc, sparc18:02
madnickI think perhaps a webkit based browser is your best shot18:02
charlie-tcashould still have netsurf then18:02
knomewhy is my D/L rates like 30kB/s on the eeepc? :(18:02
charlie-tcamidori was not all that great in lucid, was it?18:02
knomeno idea.18:03
knome:)18:03
charlie-tcaI think I would epiphany or chrome, but am not sure. 18:03
madnick#include <webkit/webkit.h> #include <gtk/gtk.h> + 50 more lines of code, it wont get much lighter :P But Epiphany is light, even tho it has some features18:05
knomewith ethernet, the download rates are as they should be18:06
knomei wonder if the wlan is somehow broken, or if it's just supposed to be slow :P18:07
madnickhehe, i got the EEEPC900, it barely runs :\18:07
knomei've the 4G18:08
knomemy laptop is not working, since its HD went dingdong18:09
knomei haven't got the motivation yet to check if it works with the new HD18:09
knomei must've done something wrong, because the DVD drive in it doesn't work any more :((18:09
knomehow broken is the daily build for today?18:15
knomewait, there is no desktop daily18:15
knomeawwwh18:15
knomeehh, what18:16
knomewhat's the official site for daily builds? are desktop images working?18:16
charlie-tcaknome: http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily-live/current/18:20
charlie-tcaor !daily18:20
charlie-tca!daily18:20
ubottuDaily builds of the CD images of the current development version of Ubuntu are available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ and http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/18:20
knomeokay18:20
knomeare they working? ;)18:20
charlie-tcayes, they appear to be working, but I am just starting an install now. I haven't had time yet to run them18:21
knomeheh, okay.18:21
knomethey should work with the startup creator too, right?18:21
charlie-tcaI have seen a report that Ubuntu has 57 updates after installing today18:21
knomethat's not a problem really.18:22
charlie-tcayup, supposed to with with startup creator or unetbootin18:22
knomegood18:22
charlie-tcaStill got Onboard in the menu! That's a big difference at this point in the cycle18:39
madnickonboard is a bliss compared to xkb, or what its called :)18:43
charlie-tcaYeah, but to actually still have it in the menu is awesome!18:43
madnick:)18:43
charlie-tca64bit live session is working good.18:45
madnickyeah 32bit too :) 18:45
charlie-tcaThe only serious issue I have so far is abiword won't save the template, and you have to manually change settings every time you use it18:47
charlie-tcaIf you change the fonts, write a letter, save and close, when you open the letter, the font is back to the original font18:47
charlie-tcamadnick: verify bug 854198 . Can we sign it off as fixed now?18:53
ubottuLaunchpad bug 854198 in ubiquity (Ubuntu Precise) "Cannot change keymap language again after double clicking on a language" [High,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/85419818:53
madnickcharlie-tca: let me try18:54
charlie-tcaI can not reproduce it any more18:55
madnickcharlie-tca: http://www.madnick.se/~madnick/nope.png18:57
madnicksorry, its still there on days image18:57
madnicktodays*18:59
charlie-tcaNo problem. The bug is still open, too19:05
charlie-tcaI tried from desktop session, and could not make it freeze19:05
madnickI tried from the installer19:06
charlie-tcaYeah, one more reason to push the install from live session thing.19:06
micahgcharlie-tca: dictionaries are installed as part of language-selector, I'm not sure how that works for derivatives, also backports is enabled for everyone by default with a lower pin priority, this allows users to get entirely new packages from backports, but not ones currently in the distro w/out explicitly selecting them19:11
charlie-tcaYeah, I thought about backports and came to that conclusion19:13
charlie-tcaApparently dictionaries work different for derivatives, since the report was they are enabled by default in Ubuntu.19:13
charlie-tcaI don't know how it works, is it anything to worry about or do we just tell them to install the dictionary of their choice?19:14
micahgif they fire up language selector, it should allow the install of whatever is missing19:17
charlie-tcahm, does that mean we are not fully installing languages again?19:20
charlie-tcaI will run a Korean installation and check that out19:20
charlie-tcam, wait19:20
charlie-tcaIf they choose to install in their native language, they never have to fire up the language selector after the install, but they also don't get the dictionary of their native language.19:21
charlie-tcaDoes anyone get the "remove the disk and hit enter to continue" prompt on the desktop cd?19:38
charlie-tcaDoes anyone get the "remove the disk and hit enter to continue" prompt on the desktop cd?19:38
charlie-tcaIt's plymouth that should generate the message, right?19:40
charlie-tcaWell, anyway, it's now bug 87247219:54
ubottuLaunchpad bug 872472 in plymouth (Ubuntu) "Xubuntu Oneiric does not display "remove cd and hit Enter to continue" when installing from desktop cd" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/87247219:54
charlie-tcaOkay, even saveas defaults to recently used? REALLY?19:57
charlie-tcaand then errors because you did not pick the folder. REALLY19:57
charlie-tcaCan't it just default to /home/$USER anymore?19:57
charlie-tcahm, my abiword bug seems to be my own settings. will have to investigate after release.19:59
jay__Hi all, have installed beta 2, been using the last 2 days, all up to date. its been going great, but suddenly every time i log in, xfdesktop needs to be restarted as i just get a blank screen, any ideas?/can anyone help? thanks20:04
jay__its a problem with xfdesktop20:05
charlie-tcamr_pouit: we seem to be in good condition for this final release. 20:12
charlie-tcaKeeping the fingers crossed, of course.20:12
charlie-tcajay__: user support is #xubuntu. You might try saving the session before shutting dow/restarting/logging out20:13
mr_pouitnice, thanks20:13
charlie-tcaI still can not reproduce the blueman crash20:13
mr_pouit(fyi, I'm busy tomorrow afternoon and thursday afternoon, so don't hate me if I'm not online before the evening ;-)20:15
* micahg is gone from tomorrow afternoon until sat night20:15
charlie-tcaOkay, I promise20:18
charlie-tcamicahg: Thanks for all you have done. Enjoy your time off!20:18
jay__i just figured since this was dev and that i was using beta 2 that this might be the place, thanks for getting back, i head over to xubuntu now20:18
charlie-tcamr_pouit: I am thinking just tomorrow . We will be releasing it Thursday, and if they don't screw us by tomorrow night, it's too late, isn't it?20:19
charlie-tcajay__: all of +1 is supported in #ubuntu+1, for all flavors/derivatives20:19
charlie-tcamicahg: before you disappear, is it possible to look over the release notes and see what I screwed up?20:24
charlie-tcahttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/Xubuntu/OneiricOcelot/Final20:24
charlie-tcamr_pouit: I would really appreciate you taking a look too20:24
charlie-tcahm, I don't know how to bypass the lightdm screen, but autologin works when the user name is hightlighted and login is clicked.20:25
charlie-tcaoops, seems if Session and Startup -> Advanced tab, Launch GNOME services on startup is checked, Onboard starts automatically20:27
charlie-tcabut can be closed, with a click20:27
charlie-tcaIt is not in Autostart, so it is tied to GNOME services starting.20:29
charlie-tcahm, GNOME services gives another user a blue background instead of the wallpaper20:31
mr_pouitI read it this afternoon, and it was ok20:35
micahgcharlie-tca: nautilus?20:35
charlie-tcano20:37
charlie-tcaseems unchecking Gnome Services makes things work right again20:37
charlie-tcanautilus not installed here20:38
charlie-tcamr_pouit: bug against xfce4-session for Gnome Services?20:38
charlie-tcamicahg: no, nautilus not installed when the blue background comes up20:42
mr_pouitxfce4-session then20:43
charlie-tcafiling the bug now. Thank you20:44
charlie-tcaannoyance more than anything. Hate having to close a window I didn't open20:44
charlie-tcaThe issue with the desktop is nautilus caused for jay__ 20:51
charlie-tcamadnick: still testing?21:01
madnickcharlie-tca: nope, i did both images21:07
madnickdesktop and alternatte21:07
charlie-tcaThanks!21:08
charlie-tcaI was going to have you verify that Gnome services/Onboard starting bug21:08
madnickI can boot it up21:08
madnickWhat is the test case?21:09
charlie-tcabug 87251521:09
ubottuLaunchpad bug 872515 in xfce4-session (Ubuntu) "Onboard Keyboard appears on desktop when GNOME Services is checked" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/87251521:09
charlie-tcajust open settings -> Sessions and Startup, last tab is advanced, check Gnome services, reboot21:10
charlie-tcasee if Onboard is started when you login21:10
madnickokay21:10
madnickcharlie-tca: it does21:12
madnickShould I write that I confirm it?21:13
charlie-tcaplease do21:13
charlie-tcaI can't confirm my own bug, but I can mark it triaged if you confirm it21:13
madnickI wrote that i confirmed it21:15
madnickI should perhaps have given more details like me following the steps, but I did not think of that :(21:15
charlie-tcaThat's okay, as long as it happens21:16
charlie-tcaThank you very much. 21:16
charlie-tcaHave a good night, sir21:16
madnick:)21:16

charlie-tcahttp://linux.slashdot.org/story/11/10/11/1845226/Linux-Kernel-Developer-Declares-VirtualBox-Driver-Crap21:23
charlie-tcaThat's better21:23
charlie-tcaknome: I thought you said topics don't get read?22:30
charlie-tcathink it will help?22:30
Unit193For the 1 in 100 it might22:31
knomecharlie-tca, no, i said i don't get to read topics :)22:31
charlie-tcalol22:31
knomecharlie-tca, those who join with a GUI client, probably read the topics better22:31
charlie-tcaThat's different, all right. :)22:31
knomethat's the difference22:31
knomejust got oneiric installed in my eeepc22:31
knomeworks fine22:31
charlie-tcaLet's hope. the !notyet factoid is up too now22:32
* Unit193 thinks less than half22:32
charlie-tca!notyet22:32
knomecharlie-tca, btw, i do have factoid editing rights, if we ever need anything...22:32
charlie-tcagreat. it's +1 only22:32
knomeheh22:32
knome!notyet-#ubuntu+122:32
Unit193!isitout22:33
ubottuNope! Ubuntu 11.10 is scheduled for release sometime on October 13th. You can party in #ubuntu-release-party while you're waiting!22:33
knomehmm.22:33
charlie-tcaI generally try to push the factoids towards you. You are better with them then me22:33
charlie-tcaoh22:33
charlie-tcaisitout, huh?22:33
charlie-tcaI thought that was an alias for notyet22:34
Unit193!-isitout22:34
ubottuisitout aliases: outyet, isoutouyet, is it out yet, releasetime, isitoutyet, countdown-#ubuntu-release-party - added by LjL on 2008-10-30 01:48:02 - last edited by rww on 2011-10-11 21:35:5822:34
charlie-tcano, huh?22:34
charlie-tcagonna make my brain hurt22:34
Unit193outyet22:35
charlie-tcaI wrote it down this time22:35
knomehehe22:36
charlie-tcaNow if I don't lose the paper again22:36
knomefirefox with 2 zoomouts on eeepc is actually quite enjoyable22:36
charlie-tcaheh, I imagine it is22:37
knomeone could say the text is quite small... but not me22:37
knomethe slowness i wanted to get rid of wasn't actually in firefox22:38
knomeit was the bad wifi driver that dragged down the pageloads22:38
charlie-tcaYeah, I have to zoom a few more than two times these days22:38
charlie-tcaso, you got the driver fixed?22:38
knomewell, i installed oneiric22:38
knomei had lucid22:38
charlie-tca:)22:38
charlie-tcaoneiric has some advantages22:39
knomeit boots a bit slower i think, but it's okay to use22:39
knomeit's not my everyday machine anyway22:39
knomei think i have to buy a new laptop though22:39
Unit193Is -release-party worth it?22:39
knomeseems like there is something else broken than just the HDD...22:39
charlie-tcaI thought that one you had was new?22:39
knomeah, no ;)22:39
knomeboth the eeepc and the 15" laptop are old22:40
charlie-tcaUnit193: never tried the channel. bad enough in #ubuntu+1 close to release22:40
charlie-tcaknome: then it is probably time to replace it22:40
knomeUnit193, no. people are just asking if it's out, the other people is linking to porn and stupid links saying it's out, and in the end, they all get banned.22:40
charlie-tcaUnit193: when +1 swells to 1000, I drop it too22:40
knomecharlie-tca, yeah, i think so. not that i need a new one right now, i just upgraded the graphics card on my desktop...22:41
Unit193knome, charlie-tca: Thanks. Only thing that sounds fun is all the banning :P22:41
knomethat's not funny either actually. because after that, they're all at #ubuntu-ops whining :P22:42
Unit193Oh nice... Seems I should be glad I'm only in the secret one :P22:43
knomeheh :P22:44
knomeit'll be soon when you're on -ops too22:44
knomeanyway22:44
knomehave you seen a problem on oneiric, where part of the n letter is cut out on some text sizes?22:44
Unit193Doesn't sound like it from last meeting, but yes. anyway...22:45
Unit193Know what size? I could check22:45
knomethe default terminal font size for example22:46
charlie-tcano, is it by chance the actual font doing it?22:46
knomeit doesn't look intentional, and it's the default font.22:46
charlie-tcaI don't see it cut off on this fresh install22:47
knomehttp://temp.knome.fi/xubuntu/oneiric_font/Screenshot.png22:47
charlie-tcait is straight legged22:47
Unit193I didn't have that...22:48
charlie-tcaoh, that's weird. I don't get that here22:48
knomedroid sans mono 1222:48
knomeworks well now with 922:48
charlie-tcaYeah, mine are complete, with legs to the bottom of the line22:49
charlie-tcaI even tried in leafpad to see if I could tell a difference. 22:49
charlie-tcaMy terminal preferences show Droid Sans Mono 12 as default22:50
charlie-tcaknome: that's only the n doing it?22:50
knomethat actually happens in firefox too in some sizes (and happened in installation too), so i'm wondering if it has something to do with the GPU, but then again, i can't install anything from jockey either22:50
knomelet me check22:50
charlie-tcaI would expect m to do it too, but it didn't 22:51
knomeactually, the problem just disappeared from firefox22:51
knomebut terminal still has it22:51
charlie-tcaweird. It has to be something in the GPU then. What about a different font? I know it's a pain to change them, but maybe it is something to do with the way droid draws the letters22:53
knomehmm....22:53
knomeit has something to do with antialiasing22:53
knomewhen i disable that, the legs show up22:53
knomefrom appearance tab fonts, setting hinting to anything else than "slight", the problem disappears22:54
charlie-tcaThat is the GPU, then, isn't it? Most of the systems have to stay on slight to get decent characters22:55
knomeor changing the dpi works too22:56
knomenone is a bit bad, but the others look just like slight22:56
knomeexcept the letter-spacing is a bit smaller in them.22:57
knomewhich is actually nice22:57
knomehmmkay, now i see the problem in firefox again22:57
charlie-tcaI think firefox is the reason we default to slight hinting. 22:58
knomethe problem is there with firefox and slight hinting too :)22:58
knomei like the panel on bottom. it's a very good guide on what apps to remove :P23:05
knome(on eeepc)23:05
charlie-tcaOkay, I am going rest for a bit23:11
knomei should too23:12
knomemeeting in <13 hours23:12
knomeerr23:12
knome<11 hours23:13
knomesee you tomorrow23:13
Unit193Less than 1 for me, adios23:13
knomeheh :)23:13
OlbiI have strange problems on Live 11.10, when I trying to connect with wi-fi I see it, type right pass but system doesnt want to connect it, it refuse and want again type right password23:45
Olbiit is weird :/23:45
