maxolasersquad6 hours to release.12:02
bogmcyes!12:31
dantalizingmorning13:19
mhall119morning13:27
mhall119happy release day everyone, Oneiric is officially out!13:27
maxolasersquadThen thefinalcountdown is full of dirty lies.13:31
mhall119and dirty 80s one-hit-wonders13:37
dantalizingmmm... dirty 80s13:38
DammitJimhappy release date!!!!13:46
DammitJimwhy is oneric ocelot not LTS?14:08
DammitJimoneiric14:08
mhall119DammitJim: because LTS's come very 2 years14:08
mhall11912.04 will be an LTS14:08
DammitJimare a lot of people then waiting for 12.04?14:09
DammitJimI guess you can always upgrade, right?14:09
mhall119yeah, you can upgrade to whatever you want14:09
mhall119probably businesses will wait for 12.04, and most people using it on a server14:09
zoopsteroh crap...now I'm 2 releases behind on my server, ugh14:10
mhall119zoopster: yeah, mine is 10.10 too14:10
DammitJimif it's running fine, don't upgrade ;)14:10
zoopsterheh...but then I don't get to play with the new cool stuff14:11
zoopsteractually I'm starting to move my websites to S314:11
zoopsterjust don't like not being about to assign root domain names to them :(14:12
DammitJimI hear ya14:12
DammitJimVM for the new cool stuff14:12
zoopsteractually I "should" do the opposite...keep the host upgraded and keep my prod stuff on a vm14:13
DammitJimlol... it should all be a vm cluster :014:13
dantalizingwonder if there is a juju charm for "upgrade"14:21
mhall119dantalizing: I think that's more of a puppet/landscape thing14:24
dantalizingits still service management14:39
mhall119juju is more deployment management I think14:52
dantalizingi'm not sure what the stated design goals are, but there is more in there than just puppet/chef/whatever for the cloud.  i dont see specific upgrade charms, but i dont see why it couldnt be done .. tricky but doable15:19
zoopsterdantalizing: you and I both know that you don't upgrade cloud/vm based images15:55
zoopsterrip and replace!15:55
zoopsterand use juju to redeploy15:55
akgranerzoopster, everytime I see/hear juju I think of sammy hagar :-)16:10
zoopsterheh...yea, but that's bad juju!16:11
akgranerand charms well I think lucky charms cereal :-/16:11
akgranerthis out to be fun interviewing developers at UDS about this - I think I can get through it without giggling just a little16:12
akgraners/out/ought16:12
mhall119akgraner: it makes me think of juju bees16:52
mhall119jujubes, however it's spelled16:52
mhall119but now that you mention it, I feel compelled to write a webapp and call it lucky, just so I can make a charm for it16:53
akgranerhehe :-)16:54
akgranertoo funny16:57
dantalizingis it bad that 2 minutes ago was the first time that i saw the online tour?  how long has that been there?17:43
mhall119dantalizing: hours17:52
dantalizingme likey17:57
mhall119it is very nice, isn't it?17:58
mhall119I hear sending email works too17:58
* mhall119 hasn't tried that yet17:59
dantalizingI <3 me some rackspace18:16
itnet7mhall119: we'll have to get jujubees to give away during the horro show ;-)18:27
mhall119that's be fun18:30
itnet7s/horro/horror/18:30
itnet7People around here at work are genuinely excited about the new release18:30
itnet7That Rocks!18:30
itnet7I'm about to my first clean install, on my other other work laptop18:32
itnet7They issued us laptops when they took over our departments with what the deamed as the latest greatest OS18:33
itnet7I haven't even powered it on fully18:33
itnet7from 2 years ago, 3 in february ;-P18:33
dantalizingreally?  they installed ubuntu on them and you didnt use it?18:34
dantalizing;)18:34
raubvogelitnet7: I worked at a place where the new laptop would go to the boss, then to his kids, and then to IT18:34
itnet7raubvogel: that tends to happen here on the other side. I can't really get my hands on any new hardware to "test" due to them insourcing us18:35
itnet7dantalizing: I wish ;-)18:35
itnet7I just can't believe they said vi$ta and best os in the same sentence......18:36
raubvogelitnet7: Fun 18:36
itnet7I should have know then what I was in store for!18:36
raubvogelNow they ought to be saying Windows818:36
itnet7There are already buzzwords about Mango Development18:37
itnet7*pffftt*18:37
raubvogelNow, they should only have *one* machine with the Microsoft SDK18:37
dantalizingevery time i hear 'mango' i think of the line 'juicy juicy mangos' from bend it like beckham18:38
raubvogelthen let people rdp into it18:38
raubvogelto the very same screen18:38
raubvogeland work on different projects 18:38
raubvogelHow's that for bad?18:38
itnet7I wanted to try that chrome rdp client18:41
itnet7but haven't had a chance... @ dantalizing, I know, right?18:41
itnet7It makes me think of the SNL skit too with John Lequiziamo (sp?)18:42
itnet7Well, I guess it's not really rdp, it's more like teamview19:03
maxolasersquadAn HTML5 RDP client would be badass, but you'd need a websockets server somewhere that can access both the RDP server.19:07
maxolasersquadIs anyone else annoyed about the choppy scrolling in the new Gwibber?19:09
itnet7That's one app I haven't been using in quite sometime, I will check it tonight19:10
govatenthappy release day everyone21:47
akgranermhall119, what's the irc channel for the ubuntu website folks21:48
akgraneris it ubuntu-website or something else - I can't remember atm21:48
mhall119akgraner: #ubuntu-website22:31
akgranerthanks!22:38
govatenti like all the changes made in unity. i only wish i had a slightly nicer gpu. 23:03
=== jamalta_ is now known as jamalta
mhall119govatent: Unity 2d works really well without 3d acceleration23:19
govatenthow can i switch to it?23:20
mhall119govatent: at the login screen, click the gear icon by your name23:20
govatentcause i do have 3d acceleration. it just is sluggish cause of my laptop's amazingly underpowered card. 23:20
govatentok brb. going to switch to 2d 23:21
govatentwow. 23:22
govatenti am not going to lie. 2d feels really really smooth/fast on my laptop. 23:22
govatentthanks mhall119 . that was a great tip. 23:22
mhall119np23:22
mhall119they did a really good job with it, and made it so close to the 3d version23:23
govatentwhat extra fancies does the 3d have. 23:23
mhall119I'm not really sure23:24
govatentnot that i plan on going back to 3d on my laptop. it really made a huge difference that one change. i am glad the community thought of the older computers. 23:24
mhall1193d is build on Compiz23:24
mhall1192d is built in QT23:24
mhall119that's the only difference i know23:24
govatentthis new release made me love ubuntu again. every release i fall in love again and remember why i use ubuntu. 23:26
govatentbtw funny story, the other day while at school i get a call from my mom saying the internet went out. i could not remote into my system at all so i was not able to look into it till i got home later that night. when i did get home, i found out comcast for some reason decided their backend would lose my modems mac reg in their system. they have no trace of my modem ever being in the system. 23:27
mhall119nice23:29
govatenti should call and get a day worth of credit 23:30
govatentcause my mom could not use our vonage service cause of their mistake. not that i am angry about it or anything. 23:30
