=== seattlegaucho_ is now known as seattlegaucho [19:59] if the last three upgrades have required me to do a fresh install to fix all the things that broke in the transition, is there any reason for me to believe that dist-upgrade would not fail this time? [20:09] hmmm, what broke before? [20:10] I haven't upgraded this laptop yet, since I'm flying with it tomorrow [20:10] but my netbook upgrade was smooth and easy [20:10] no problems [20:10] that hasn't always been true, for sure [20:55] well, typically when I next turn on the computer, kde does not load correctly, if at all [20:55] some things work, but others don't [20:55] like some horrible shambling monster from an experiment gone wrong [20:55] kind of like 'from beyond' if you've ever seen that [20:56] it always seems to be random to me [20:56] but maybe there's a pattern i haven't been able to discern yet [20:56] My new laptop runs Unity like a beast [20:56] its a i5 core [20:56] :D [20:57] don't know what unity is but my phenom ii x4 performs very well [20:58] while we're here, let's get out the rulers =P [21:02] how does a live CD/DVD/USB work for you, ievans3024? [21:02] I did quite a bit of testing this release, and everything but Kmail seems trouble free [21:03] and for lots of people, Kmail is good too [21:03] see that's the weird part, live cds always work just fine [21:03] as do fresh installs [21:03] it's the upgrade via kpackagekit or apt-get dist-upgrade that break [21:06] I think I used do-release-upgrade [21:06] since I was using the beta for testing [21:06] I will NOT use kpk [21:06] never again [21:06] that effs things up for me All The Time [21:07] and you know we aren't using it anymore in 11.10 [21:07] by default [21:07] Muon is default, and there is a replacement for kpackagekit called Apper [21:28] so apt-get do-release-upgrade?
