Lestibournesunity.ubuntu.com has a display defect in Chromium 12.0.742.112: http://ubuntuone.com/208dwL7a6Da1xJhFfOIrj700:29
LestibournesSo, any response to my last post? I'd been disconnected by accident.01:19
jbichaLestibournes: what exactly is the problem?01:24
LestibournesThe text spilling out from the boxes at the bottom.02:20
jbichaLestibournes: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Website02:27
cwilluLestibournes, I see nothing wrong with that image03:22
jo-erlendwhen I click an indicator, the menu goes away when I release the mouse button. It didn't use to be that way. Is it intentional, or is it a problem here?10:05
cwillujo-erlend, known bug10:17
cwillujo-erlend, two monitors?10:17
jo-erlendyes10:18
jo-erlendI'm really impressed by unity2d. It needs to get the same keyboard shortcuts that Unity has, but other than that, it's just as good, I think. There was actually a question on askubuntu just now about how to know if you're using Unity or Unity 2D. That's quite a compliment. :)10:20
jo-erlendcwillu, do you have a bug number for it?10:22
cwillujo-erlend, I could find it, you could probably find it just as easily :p10:32
cwillumaybe some day, chrome's search may be useful, but not yet10:32
jo-erlendok. "well-known" is a relative term, you know. I used to remember the bug number for the "panel applets moves randomly"-bug for gnome-panel :)10:33
cwilluI never said well known10:33
jo-erlendcwillu, agreed. I really love that in Firefox.10:33
jo-erlendcwillu, ah, you didn't. :)10:33
cwillufrankly, there's enough bugs in 11.10's compiz+unity+company that no one is likely to be "well known" :p10:34
cwillu(in fairness, it does appear to be understood with fixes coming)10:34
jo-erlendgreat. :)10:35
jo-erlendmost people seems to agree that Unity is fantastic, except for the bugs. That's a good thing. :)10:36
* cwillu shrugs10:36
cwilluit's a pain in the ass on a multi-monitor workstation :/10:37
jo-erlendI don't think so.10:37
cwillugreat on my netbook though10:37
cwillujo-erlend, given that I have at any given time a dozen terminals open, yes, it is :p10:37
cwilluif you have very few of any given application window open, it works great, which is a more common approach on single monitor light-use desktops and laptops10:38
jo-erlendhow?10:38
cwillujo-erlend, among other things, clicking on the launcher bar for the terminal brings every one to top, which is never what I want in that situation10:39
jo-erlendif you press super+numnum, then you get a display of only those windows. It would be incredibly nice if we could use alt+char to switch between windows in that view.10:40
cwilluheh, and _that_ display is also useless when you have lots of windows open10:40
jo-erlendwhere char is 0-z.10:40
cwilluyou can't read terminal text when it's been resized like that :p10:40
cwilluand the titles are also not shown10:40
jo-erlendcwillu, what about alt+keyabovetab?10:41
cwillujo-erlend, that would be another area10:41
cwilluswitching between the particular windows is nice, but switching one at a time (I have 12 open remember) is likewise annoying10:41
cwilluand it doesn't help at all with the launcher-bringing-all-to-front bit10:42
jo-erlendsure. I don't think that's specific to multi-monitor setups though.10:42
cwillufair enough, but I suspect that multi-monitor users tend towards heavier use :p10:43
cwilluI know at least one canonical user with more extreme usage than mine :p10:43
cwilluand I don't believe she uses unity at this time10:43
cwilluer, canonical staffer I meant to say10:44
jo-erlendsure. I've added an xfce4-panel for those cases. There's really no need to replace Unity when you can have both.10:44
cwillumeh10:44
cwilluif you're adding a conventional panel anyway, you're kinda defeating the point :p10:45
jo-erlendit's a work-around. There are issues to fix, but I think Unity provides many useful features even if you add a bottom panel temporarily.10:45
cwillujo-erlend, it's okay to criticize, this isn't a cult :p10:46
cwilluyou will not be struck down by our sacred leader if you aren't completely positive about unity :p10:46
cwilluthe fact is that unity has no compelling story for heavy use of windows as I've described.  There's nothing wrong with that, you can't do everything.10:47
jo-erlendhehe, well, I'm not. I have a long list of things I would like fixed, like being able to use keyboard shortcuts to switch between apps in the super+w and super+numnum views.10:47
jo-erlendsomething horribly annoying is that the lock screen view is only displayed on one monitor. That monitor doesn't return from powersave mode, så it looks and feels like the desktop has frozen. The other monitor does return from powersave, so if it was displayed on both, it would be apparent what was going on.10:50
cwilluthat's not really a design problem though10:51
jo-erlendwell, the login screen is displayed on both monitors. I think the unlock screen should be too. The reasons why that's so important here, is not a design issue.10:55
jo-erlendthe fact that things work inconsistently with more monitors, though, is.10:56
* cwillu shrugs10:58
cwilluuse xrandr to set the it to mirror mode;  easy fix :p10:58
jo-erlendheh. Yes, that's definitely not what I want. :)11:02
smspillazhyperair: I don't develop the panel13:07
smspillazhyperair: and no13:08
hyperairsmspillaz: well that sucks.13:14
* hyperair wishes that could be made a configuration option somewhere.13:14
MaximLevitskyI just tried gnome-shell, and i'll say that these asses are up to something13:30
MaximLevitskyVery different but not that bad as I thoughr13:30
MaximLevitskythought13:30
MaximLevitskyUnity on the other hand == attempt to destroy linux13:31
MaximLevitskyAt least gnome devs actually thought about g-shell13:31
MaximLevitskyAlthough they still are asses13:31
MaximLevitskyBut unity designers == big asses13:32
MaximLevitskySorry to troll13:32
MaximLevitskyBut its really sad to see that ubuntu turned into13:32
MaximLevitskyAnd compiz13:32
MaximLevitskyI guess its better that compiz be dead that undead with unity13:33
