FernandoMiguelgood afternoon friends. who's up for some popcorn?14:20
penguin42yeh sure, send a bucket this way14:28
jcgsHi, is anyone using kubuntu? Can someone who is try adding a new "default panel" in their plasma workspace?15:51
jcgsjust to warn you, mine crashes when I do that... what is it supposed to do?15:52
jcgsOops, sorry wring place... I hadn't noticed Oneiric had been released...15:53
sagacijcgs: I was told the same thing but I tried to add one and it was fine for me :/15:54
jcgssagaci: orly? what is it supposed to do? why is it different from empty panel?15:55
jcgsIs there already a bug report for it? because I just reported it now, as bug #87579215:56
ubottuLaunchpad bug 875792 in kde-workspace (Ubuntu) "Plasma workspace appears to crash when trying to add a default panel" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/87579215:56
sagaciI don't know, it doesn't affect me :)15:57
jcgsSagaci: sorry, maybe I didn't explain...what does it do when it works?15:58
sagacibrings up a stock bottom panel with all the default applets16:00
penguin42jcgs: I can confirm that16:17

jcgspenguin42: thanks for looking into it :)16:30
penguin42apparently it forwarded it to #ubuntu-ops16:30
jcgspenguin42: I know this isn't the right channel to discuss this, but do you know how I can go about debuggin plasma?16:31
arandYeah, well, it might poke the maintainer I guess :)16:31
penguin42jcgs: Probably not, remember this channel is for PP now, not OO; however, install the debug packages and get a full backtrace; then take gdb to it :-)16:32
yofeljcgs: IIRC that's the crash when you try to use 2 systrays16:33
yofeladd an empty panel instead and manually add the widgets16:33

castlefoxim have some trouble installing 11.04 with Wubi on windows xp17:33
castlefoxWhen I restart my computer there is no grub window where I can choose to boot into windows or ubuntu17:34
urlin2ucastlefox, wubi loads then reboots and installs has that happened?17:37
urlin2uloads the iso basically you choose the size and location there17:38
castlefoxurlin2u it just boots into windows XP like normal17:38
castlefoxurlin2u: ive downloaded the ubuntu torrent twice now and the same thing happened both times17:39
urlin2ucan you answer my question?17:39
castlefoxurlin2u: no the install of ubuntu doesnt happen after the restart17:40
castlefoxurlin2u: sorry17:40
urlin2ucastlefox, it has to, to be installed, are you trying to make a partition and or put it outside of the XP partition?17:41
castlefoxurlin2u: uh..... are you talking about the first install when I first run wubi for the second instal thing that usually happens after I restart the computer?    Im not sure if we are talking about the same 'installition'17:44
castlefoxurlin2u:  I wanted to do it with wubi so I could just install it inside windows so I could test it out on this machine before I started dual booting.17:45
urlin2ucastlefox, when you install wubi it asks where you want it as well as how big, and a user name and passwoprd, it then loads the iso, and reboots to install. It is in this first part some try to put wubi in a partition other than the windows one all kinds of mistakes, does this make sense. I other words you have juast chosen the size a name and password?17:46
castlefoxurlin2u: yea I chose a user name password and give it 9GB.  It does its thing for like 2min and then asks to restart and then nothing happens17:47
urlin2ucastlefox, hmm not sure than you have 9 gigs available in windows right?17:48
castlefoxurlin2u:  windows says I got 12 gigs free on this HDD17:49
urlin2ucastlefox, hard to say but I suspect that is the problem as windows scatters the files around, the idea with HD's is that only about 70% should be used for best performance in general.17:51
urlin2uIT windows guys will argue against that but they are windowscentric17:51
castlefoxurlin2u: yea I unstand that it is not ideal.   Kind of hard to avoid since this hdd ia only 40gb17:53
urlin2ucastlefox, so what are you going to do if you want ubuntu?17:53
urlin2ucastlefox, I guess I would try a little smaller install size like 6 gigs, I think the min is 4 gigs for earlier releases than natty and beyond17:58
castlefoxurlin2u: mmk17:58
castlefoxurlin2u: i've been downloading the ubuntu-11.10-desktop-i386 torrent17:59
urlin2unot sure of the minimal in oneiric, but the usb full loads are above 4 gigs needed I believe.18:00
=== winut_ is now known as winut
urlin2utry reducing the install size gig at a time I guess, make sure XP is defragged as well .18:00
castlefoxkk18:01
castlefoxhow big should my USB device be if I want to put it on there?18:03
urlin2ucastlefox, you can load a usb in 2 ways a full load a actual install not sure I beleive it is aat least 4 gigs, or use a install load using unetbootin, it can be as little as a gig it is h=just the ISO, both will run slower than a real install though.18:09
urlin2usorry 4 the the spelling18:09
castlefoxurlin2u: ok.  Thanks18:10
FernandoMiguelanyone seeing Nautilus drag and drop failing by a few pixels?18:21

csgeekI'm having some audio/flash issues with 11.10 but I can't seem to see a pattern...20:26
sharpshooterurlin2u, I need to customize the progress bar in the brug theme any idea?20:26
csgeekeveryone in a while.. I have static overlaid on top of the standard audio.... but now HD works, crappy videos work... standard works...20:26
csgeekI guess I shouldn't get annoyed that it has the audacity to work flowlessly atm20:26
urlin2usharpshooter, brug or burg20:27
sharpshooterburg !20:27
sharpshooterurlin2u,Oops burg!! ;)20:27
urlin2usharpshooter, progress bar not sure what you mean, I use it actually.20:29

sharpshooterurlin2u,  the dot one is a plymouth theme20:33
urlin2uI like it better than plain grub, not really sur about customizing we are actually way off topic here so I was just trying to get to the gist.20:33
urlin2uI never could tell what is plymouth what s splash I just want it to boot the computer is a utility for me basically.20:35
FernandoMiguelpenguin42: clean install20:35
penguin42FernandoMiguel: No, upgrade from a month or so old alpha I think20:36
* kyofel just finished upgrading his server to oneiric.20:37
kyofelnow with everything on oneiric I can think about what I'll upgrade to precise first :D20:37
FernandoMiguelkyofel: \o/20:41
arandI wonder why distro-info i386 is still pending, shouldn't everything just get published willy-nilly this time of the cycle? :)20:49
penguin42hmm interesting, lightdm-gtk-greeter hadn't been installed20:49
penguin42FernandoMiguel: I assume you're upgrading by just s/oneiric/precise/g apt ?20:51
kyofelhow else? not that much will get updated right now20:52
FernandoMiguelpenguin42: correct20:52
penguin42at least precise is rememberable unlike oneiric20:52
FernandoMiguelrite20:52
arandIt's about 20 packages diff or so, I think20:52
kyofelheh20:52
FernandoMiguelI never could type it20:52

FernandoMiguelI did that back in 7.x and it was a MESS20:53
penguin4263 packages now20:54
arandOh, mustve misestimated20:54
* penguin42 hopes apt hasn't broken on any archs this time around - that was a bit of a pain for OO20:54
FernandoMiguelI still dotn know why I see all those :386 packages20:54
penguin42probably flash or something similar20:55
FernandoMiguelFetched 31.1 MB in 54s (571 kB/s)20:55
FernandoMiguelpenguin42: no.... it's about 1/4 of the packages20:56
FernandoMiguelstarted 2 months ago20:56
penguin42still, the fact that multiarch works is about a zillion steps forward20:56
penguin42might let me upgrade my work laptop to a 64bit install20:56
