[01:51] wtf [01:51] /usr/bin/lubuntu-software-center: line 24: import: command not found [01:51] /usr/bin/lubuntu-software-center: line 28: syntax error: unexpected end of file [01:51] ? [02:21] Hey i have ubuntu 11.10 installed.i remember there was a way to Try lubuntu without reinstalling, what was it again [02:22] basically i want to try out lxde on ubuntu, what do i download.and it will be reversable. [02:37] SetiAmon: http://wiki.lxde.org/en/Ubuntu#Configuration_for_Login_Managers [02:37] after you install lxde [02:37] which you can do in synaptic, aptitude, apt-get etc.. [02:37] might check out #lxde [02:37] lubuntu ain't just ubuntu+lxde [02:39] I know [02:39] Wait [02:39] it isn't [02:39] nope [02:39] what is lubuntu then [02:39] ubuntu has a bunch of bullshit on it that lubuntu doesn't :D [02:40] (like unity) [02:40] xubuntu was intended to be a lightweight distribution but it really was more like ubuntu+xfce and thus it was never really lightweight [02:48] why is there no version later than 11.04 yet :( [02:49] because you don't know where to look? :D [02:49] sudo apt-get install tmw gives me a really really old client [02:50] latest version of tmu seems to be 1.0+git20110505-2 [02:53] which, as you can see, is the latest in precise http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=precise&keywords=tmw [02:53] so if you're getting anything less, fix your sources [02:55] I must update :( [02:57] why don't you just do the version, meway ? [02:57] tmw is horribly broken and old as fuck :) simplest wording I can put it in xD [02:57] apt-get install tmw=1.0+git20110505-2 [02:57] ah that might help... [02:57] but you must be using the right sources [02:58] nope not found [02:58] you running lubuntu 11.04 or 11.10? [02:58] how do I change the souces? [02:58] 11.04 [02:58] ok so assuming you are using the 11.04 sourrces... [02:59] then, yep, old [02:59] you can temporarily add the source [03:00] run an install [03:00] and then remove the source [03:00] you should also probably hold the package [03:00] i have to do the opposite thing.. i.e. use an old package.. because thunderbird isn't supported beyond v3.1.5 for ppc [03:00] and sylpheed/claws piss me off [03:01] idk how T.T [03:01] anywho [03:02] go to Preferences > Software Sources > Other Software > Add... [03:02] wxl how do I add the source? [03:02] use this line: [03:02] where is "software sources" please back up and being with click the big circle in the bottom left corner [03:02] xD [03:03] deb http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ oneiric universe [03:03] oh my meway [03:03] so if you've clicked on that then you should see preferences! [03:03] yup [03:03] ok keep going then [03:05] ? [03:05] um [03:05] I see... [03:06] click on software sources [03:06] click on the updates tab [03:06] include the aforementioned line: [03:06] deb http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ oneiric universe [03:06] there is none [03:06] hit ok [03:06] There is no software sources >.< that is where you lost me ... [03:06] weird [03:06] i thought that was arround in 11.04 [03:06] oh well [03:06] terminal time [03:07] or just run [03:07] gksudo leafpad /etc/apt/sources.list [03:07] when you have leafpad open, copy/paste that line at the end [03:07] save it [03:08] Adding oneiric sources in Natty? Not the best idea [03:08] oh for this goofy ass game it ain't a big deal [03:08] :D [03:09] Please try to keep this family friendly too [03:09] wxl I know how to use the terminal [03:09] lets go with that xD [03:10] Unit193: yes dear [03:10] wxl copy what line where? [03:10] meway: put it in sources.list [03:10] anywhere? [03:11] prolly best at the end [03:11] and than? [03:11] save it [03:12] sudo apt-get update [03:12] sudo apt-get install tmw [03:13] tmw or the git+akjas29823402342 w/e one? [03:13] it should be the most recent and should install that version anyways [03:13] lastly let's get it on hold: [03:13] echo "tmw hold" | dpkg --set-selections [03:14] then remove that line from soures list so oneiric doesn't come back to haunt you any futher [03:14] if/when you upgrade to 11.10, then you should probably take it off hold [03:15] echo "tmw install" | dpkg --set-selections [03:15] wxl wait what?> [03:15] I am still on sudo apt-get install tmw? [03:15] should I do this? [03:15] yes [03:16] 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded [03:16] did you update first? [03:16] yes [03:16] weird [03:16] try [03:16] apt-get install tmw=1.0+git20110505-2 [03:17] tmw was not found [03:17] btw I do have tmw installed from previous ... [03:17] bizarre [03:17] do you pastebinit? [03:17] ? [03:18] wxl, how do I uninstall tmw? [03:18] well it's a nice tool but if you could copy/paste your sources.list into pastebin that would be nice [03:18] sudo apt-get remove tmw [03:18] and you can reinstall with [03:18] sudo apt-get install --reinstall tmw [03:18] be back in a few [03:19] wxl you want me to paste my source list? [03:21] deb http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ oneiric universe is correct? [03:28] I get this error on sudo apt-get update [03:28] Ign http://us.archive.ubuntu.com natty-updates/universe Translation-en [03:28] W: Failed to fetch http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/oneiric/universe/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found [03:32] my pcmanfm freezes sometimes can someone help me to fix this problem? [03:44] hm ok meway hold on [03:45] wxl, not sure if that link works [03:46] and I am told this will break things so I have backed everything up just in case [03:48] deb http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ oneiric universe [03:48] that's what i have in mine [03:48] oh well [03:49] update to 11.10 :D [03:51] you sure you did not typo? [03:51] last one is a copy/paste [03:54] ;_; [03:54] download page? [03:56] sudo do-release-upgrade [04:00] this will effect what ? [04:00] upgrade to 11.10 [04:01] during the upgrade will effect what? [04:02] your distribution [04:02] you go from 11.04 to 11.10 [04:02] natty to oneiric [04:02] then you'll have tmw [04:03] the new one [04:03] wxl, without restarting? [04:03] cause it is doing it right now :s [04:06] dunno about the restart [04:09] i_i I am running a server [04:09] * meway logs in to warn properly the users [04:10] nvm nobody is online I must not be that important today rofl [04:11] warn users about what? [04:11] possible restart with a do-release-upgrade [04:11] he's running a server [04:11] ever get your dm working, KM0201 ? [04:12] wxl: haven't really messed w/ it. [04:12] good to hear you're out having fun :D [04:12] lol... is that what htey call it? [04:12] hahahah uh oh maybe not in your case :D [04:40] please tell me there is a logical reason other than hardware failure that google chrome would have a red boarder for no apparent reason? [04:57] good to hear you're out having fun :D [04:57] sorry about that [04:59] lol what? [04:59] just fforget it :D [06:11] sorry to bother you guys as i know some of you are busy,, i accidently deleted my shutdown button on the right side.. how do i get it back? [06:12] right click panel [06:12] add / remove panel items [06:12] easiest way is to remove lxpanel configuration [06:12] add "application launch bar" [06:13] ah [06:13] nevermind my idea [06:13] there's no shutdown in the menu.... [06:13] as I said [06:13] yeah haha i noticed [06:13] rm -rf ! [06:14] removing lxpanel config will do what? return it to default? [06:14] Unit193, make a faq about removing lxpanel configurations? :) [06:15] that or is their a way to "factory reset" without goingtthrough the hassle of putting iso on usb stick etc.. [06:16] goto .config and remove lxpanel [06:16] ~/.config/ [06:17] which will leave me with what to navigate? [06:17] or does it default it when i do as you have instructed. [06:18] remove it [06:18] and logout and back in [06:19] i dont understand how to get to .config [06:20] and i feel bad about it [06:20] fyi [06:21] cd ~/.config/ [06:23] or in pcmanfm press h [06:23] and it will show you dot files [06:46] hey does mail-notification work with lxde? I have it drop the date in a file as its first action, and I can run the script as user "nobody" and it does so. But that doesn't happen when I try to log in. [12:29] lubuntu [12:30] some how lubuntu doesnt support my old laptop [12:47] Hello, I have to install Lubuntu on a computer wich have a pretty small HDD. [12:59] badseed, make swap 1.5x the RAM and rest for / [13:01] I'd like to keep the maximum space for the /home... So... [13:02] Do you know how much space does the / system takes for a regular install? [13:07] badseed: I don't know, but I normally set my / partition about 10GB or so. Although I normally start installing everything under the sun shortly thereafter, I've never run into problems space-wise. You could probably get away with 5GB. [13:09] ok thank you very much ;-) [13:09] Have a good day/evening ;-) [13:24] is there any software center? [13:24] in lubuntu [13:24] like ubuntu [13:26] SAKKED: yeah, there is. D: [20:29] :D [20:29] SAKKED: i did that originally too [20:29] but that's really funky [20:29] at that point you have the lxde equivalent of xubuntu [20:30] all the bloat of ubuntu but with a lightweight gui [20:30] !purelxde | If you must "convert" [20:30] If you must "convert": If you want to remove all !KDE, !GNOME and !XFCE packages and have a default !Lubuntu system follow the instructions here « http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purelxde » [20:30] ^^ what Unit193 said [20:34] sudo apt-get remove acpi-support acpid adium-theme-ubuntu aisleriot apg app-install-data app-install-data-partner appmenu-gtk appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-qt apt-xapian-index apturl apturl-common at-spi2-core avahi-autoipd bamfdaemon banshee banshee-extension-soundmenu banshee-extension-ubuntuonemusicstore baobab binfmt-support bluez-alsa bluez-cups bluez-gstreamer branding-ubuntu brasero brasero-cdrkit brasero-common brltty c2esp checkbox ch [20:34] not here tho [20:34] :D [20:34] lol [20:35] soz [20:35] XD [20:35] !pastebin | SAKKED [20:35] SAKKED: For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://imagebin.org/?page=add | !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic. [20:35] :) [20:35] so that command turns ubuntu to lubuntu? :D [20:35] It removes all the bloat [20:36] And basically leaves you with lubuntu as it is on the CD [20:36] Eh, best as it can, but a clean wipe+install is better [20:37] Whoops (I hate Key combos) [20:37] http://ubuntuhelp.tumblr.com/post/1301847558/is-there-a-way-i-can-switch-from-my-installed-regular [20:38] btw [20:38] Problem with Gnome-AlsaMixer, I use this in Lubuntu 11.04, I install today Lubuntu 11.10 and this give me errors (don't run, in console mode show Glib errors) [20:38] what happened to madrake? [20:38] *mandrake [20:39] SAKKED, That leaves all the regular ubuntu bloat IN, rather than removing it :) [20:39] hahaha [20:39] souliaq, Does "alsamixer" in Terminal show a mixer? [20:39] no [20:39] Hm [20:39] I launch this in terminal to see errors [20:40] ok [20:40] in Lxde nothing happends [20:40] souliaq, In 11.04 did it work? [20:40] sound works well, the default volume changer works well too [20:40] yes [20:40] perfectly [20:40] wasnt that redhat/madrake the most popular distribution? [20:40] in 2005? [20:40] not long ago [20:41] buy I need alsamixer to advanced options [20:41] for example Audacity is not recording, I need change de in device [20:42] in LXTerminal gnome-alsamixer shotme a lot of errors of this type: [20:42] (gnome-alsamixer:1866): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid (NULL) pointer instance [20:45] souliaq, But does alsamixer actually show a window? [20:45] Warnigns should not affect it [20:45] no, nothing of nothing [20:45] for that reason, I launch alsamixer in LXTerminal [20:45] I try with normal user [20:45] and with SUDO [20:45] the same errors [20:46] in both users [20:46] Hm, It could well be a bug then [20:47] you Install Lubuntu 11.10 ? [20:47] you installed Lubuntu 11.10? [20:47] Nope [20:48] well, then I must wait, at least two months [20:50] I think i don't need the gnome alsamixer, Lubuntu comes with alsamixer (graphical in textmode), I don't knew this. [21:35] hy guys what tool for networking is the best? [21:35] anyone have 11.10 and using a bt878 card help me before i downgrade to 10.10 [21:35] bt878 card? [21:36] tv card [21:36] bttv and video 4 linux [21:36] uofm49426: been a while since i used one, but typically it worked almost perfectly w/ linux [21:36] and vlc [21:37] never got the remote to work, but using the keyboard to change channels was no big deal [21:37] like i tell everyone i dont use the tv card but the fm tuner is used [21:38] ah, that i don't know [21:38] its a pv-48000 [21:39] it worked in 10.10 [21:40] have you worked with the bttv file maybe i can past it for you maybe you can think why it dont work [21:42] atleast trying to keep me from downgrading [21:43] i dont have cable so what games are not on espn 3 or over the air i listen to them on my radio [21:44] what is that past website [21:46] was card blacklisted sence 10.10 [21:46] bttv [21:50] http://paste.ubuntu.com/711408/ km0201 [21:54] Hey ho silverlightning [21:54] hi mark76 [21:54] ; ) [21:54] Did you get mplayer sorted out? [21:55] not really, but it is manageable [21:55] not sure what causes it [21:57] Well that's something [21:57] uofm49426: unfortunatley, it hs been so long since i used mine, i can't recall mucha bout it, other than it pretty much "just worked" with VLC [21:57] I am buying a new fan for my old laptop, to make it less noisy [21:57] I watched that show you sent me [21:57] I could have sworn the guy with the broken limbs was dead [21:57] broken limbs? === silverlightning is now known as silverarrow [21:58] mark76: and lubuntu is behaving? [21:59] Dunno, I'ma debhead :D [21:59] I'm a [22:00] hi everyone, i want to uninstall 'ace of penguins' but it also requires me to uninstall 'lubuntu-desktop'. how do i prevent this behavior [22:01] via synaptic [22:01] i makes me frustrated when things just dont work when new releases come out [22:01] lubuntu-desktop is just a metapackage [22:01] that was just an example, is there a way to only remove 'ace of penguins'? [22:02] Probably [22:02] But you'd have to do it in a terminal [22:03] mark76: pure debian? [22:03] Yep :D [22:03] is it tricky to get runnig? [22:03] Not really [22:04] 11.04 was always stalling when it was inactive in screen saver when i had my acer 5515 when ati stop putting out drivers for xpress 1200 so i keep using intrepid [22:05] Word of advice though. If you're going to try it and you want to install it don't install from a live session. [22:05] Also, their version of LXDE isn't as polished as the Lubuntu one [22:06] so far as far as my computers go intrepid and maverick just worked great [22:07] silverarrow: no offense, you will never survive on a pure debian install. [22:08] Intrepid's a bit ancient, surely? [22:08] i'm not even sure if intrepid is still supported [22:09] actually, im pretty sure its not [22:09] hey never had one problem with intrepid it was a good stable os [22:09] actualy, i thought intrepid sucked. [22:09] it's what pushed me to Debian [22:10] hardy wasn't much better [22:10] 9.04, there was dramatic improvement, and they've continued that .. [22:10] until they started this unity mess [22:12] is there a way i can install 10.10 and 11.10 on 2 different partions [22:12] so i can work on why my tv card works in one and not the other [22:14] i have a free 49 gb hard drive i use as extra storage between windows and linux [22:15] uofm49426, yeah, when you install you just need to make sure to not overwrite the other partition. [22:15] uofm49426, http://askubuntu.com/questions/13977/dual-booting-two-ubuntu-versions may work [22:16] manually partition or make sure it is using the right hard drive during install [22:29] Hi people... I need a little help =P [22:29] I'm using Lubuntu 11.10, and always that I press the Super button, the menu opens... How can I disable that?? [22:41] hey worked i have both 11.10 and 10.10 on 2 partions same hard drive [22:42] all for fm radio lol [22:42] great [22:42] and the tv card? [22:44] it worked in 10.10 before i went to 11.10 [22:44] 11.10 cant get it to work [22:44] I see. Have you had a chance to test it yet? [22:44] after the new install I mean [22:47] PereZ: did you enable that somehow, cuz i don't have that. [22:48] km0201 can you tell me my paste number [22:49] 711408 [22:49] thanks [22:50] KM0201: I have no idea how I did that... =P [22:53] brb [22:55] Hello all! I would like to ask: What is the option "lubuntu netbook" at the login screen? It doesn't seem to do anything. I'm using lubuntu 11.10, upgraded from 11.04 [22:56] Lubuntu Netbook worked on 11.04, but there is a bug in LXDM that prevents it from working on 11.10 without the work around [22:58] the workaround is to add the lubuntu ppa? [22:58] Nope, edit a file. Do you really want it? I'll pull up the workaround [22:59] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/FAQ/Workarounds#Lubuntu_Netbook_not_launching [23:00] OK thank you very much! [23:14] help please---volumne control is greyed out and no sound [23:18] anyone care to help, please [23:22] lubuntu 11.10 [23:53] yes tv card working in maverick but not i the 11.10
