[07:12] how's you be doing? [07:12] good ty and you? [07:29] bbl [08:08] Good morning to everyone [08:13] I really need some help with samba and ubuntu 10.04 [08:16] Ok this is the problem that i am pulling my hair out [08:16] I have installed Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS [08:16] I am setting up the server for domain logons [08:16] Everything is going 100%, until i want to add a Windows 7 machine [08:16] The windows 7 machine logs on to the domain 100% [08:16] Untill i restart then the windows 7 machine says can't find the domain [08:16] I also applied the windows 7 registry settings etc [08:17] But no luck at all [08:18] sorry, I last did this kind of thing a long time before Windows 7. Have you checked the samba manual for hints? [08:19] Hi tumbleweed i have tried the manual for hints etc but no luck at all [08:20] This is my 7th time to re-install the server.....lol [08:21] reinstalling is never the answer :/ [08:22] My current linux system that is running is a Fedora Core 3 server and it runs flawless with all the windows xp machine, getting windows 7 machine now and that is the reason for installing Ubuntu now [08:22] Agreed reinstalling the server is not the answer [08:22] fedora core 3 has been out of support for a long time, yes it makes sense to try ubuntu [08:22] err move to a distor with longer support cycle [08:23] Yup, i guess like Ubuntu [08:23] um, I'd try #ubuntu-server, or the samba mailing list, or clug-tech http://wiki.clug.org.za/wiki/Main_Page [08:24] Thanks tumbleweed i am in that channel as well and hope i can get it sorted [08:25] Do you perhaps know of support people in South africa that can actually come out to my company? [08:32] Patriot7912 what version of windows 7 are you using? [08:33] Windows 7 Pro magespwan [08:34] *magespawn [08:34] that should be able to do it. you can also try this site http://www.servercircle.com/ [08:35] what is the exact error code? can you copy and paste? [08:40] megaspawn there is not really an error code [08:41] Windows 7 machine only give an error of domain could not be found [08:45] i am guessing here but the registry entry does it stay to what you put in or does it default back to the original settings? [08:46] what version of samba are you running> [08:46] ? [08:46] are you sure that simply doesn't mean that it can't find the domain? [08:46] no problem megaspawn thanks well anything is beter than nothing :) [08:47] As far as i can see everything in the registry stay as i have changed it [08:47] Current Samba version is 3.4.7 [09:00] Sorry Patriot7912. Symmetria would probable be able to help. maybe leave a message for him. [09:02] Thanks magespawn will do thath [09:03] in the mean time i will see what i can find [09:04] Thanks much appreciated [09:04] I just had a look in the event log for windows 7 [09:04] The following came up [09:05] "The computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain xxx [09:07] Patriot7912: which version of Samba are you running [09:08] oh, looks like Outsider has already asked you that [09:09] who is Outsider superfly? [09:09] magespawn: he's in #clug on Atrum, where Patriot7912 has also been asking questions [09:10] that was wierd, i asked the same thing superfly [09:11] forums.techarena.in/windows-server-help/752287.htm [09:11] blogs.msdn.com/b/...pc.../the-domain-controller-dilemma.aspx?...2 [09:11] www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft.../Q_21637699.html [09:12] Patriot7912 ^^ [09:23] Hi magespwan [09:27] I have tried to put the windows 7 machine back into a workgroup and rejoined also to no avail [09:30] Unless my smb.conf is not correct [10:24] hi Patriot7912 [10:25] Maaz, coffee on [10:25] * Maaz puts the kettle on [10:25] Maaz, hurry [10:25] Hey! [10:38] samba and windows 7 [10:39] lol why you using win7 [10:40] Hmmmmm good question [10:41] But it is loaded onto the machine, and i need to connect to the domain [10:41] dont you use ubuntu? [10:41] eish [10:41] Yes i use ubuntu for the server [10:41] ah [10:42] But the rest of the machines are windows xp machines and one windows 7 machine [10:42] My previous linux server is a Fedora Core 3 server with domain logons and mail [10:43] And because there are no more support for fedora i am trying to setup the same with ubuntu [10:43] But no luck so far [10:43] which ubuntu release [10:44] 10.04 [10:44] Samba 3.4.7 [10:47] so where are you getting the prob, setting up samba or win7 [10:50] Kilos well all seems fine when setting up samba etc, from windows 7 i log on to the domain [10:50] everything is fine there it gives you the message "Welcome to the xxxx domain" [10:50] Then you need to restart windows 7 [10:50] After the restart [10:51] You press ctrl alt del and you put in your username and password [10:51] the i get the following error message [10:52] "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon requst" [10:52] eish [10:52] If i have a look into the event viewer on windows [10:52] i get the following [10:53] "This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain xxxx" [10:54] "This may lead to authentication problems" [10:54] yet the xp machines work? [10:55] Nope i have tried to connect to the new server with a xp machine aswell but no luck [10:56] i dont think one can get much windows help here. i think everyone uses linux [10:56] what does google say\ [10:56] Nothing so far [10:56] Yup google is my friend but no luck so far [10:57] http://superuser.com/questions/315737/how-to-graphical-remote-control-an-ubuntu-server [10:58] google not my friend [10:58] lol [10:58] wastes my data with the hundreds of choices [10:59] Yup and if you can just get the right awnser [11:00] yeah [11:00] have you checked this one [11:00] http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/75-63-windows-samba-issue [11:01] let me check [11:01] http://www.jonathanmoeller.com/screed/?p=1590 [11:02] good luck. normally i advise peeps to remove windows [11:03] I would like to go over to ubuntu client for the machine but all the rest are using windows [11:03] I guess i can do that but i am just worried about all the mail that is on microsoft [11:04] what mail [11:04] i use evolution in maverick [11:05] I need to transfer al my mail which is currently in Microsoft Outlook [11:05] And then there is some windows programs that won't work on linux [11:05] is it not still at the mail servers [11:06] Nope, i have my own internal and external mail server in house [11:06] thats the nice part of ubuntu, someone will find a way to make it work [11:06] oh [11:06] FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU [11:06] lo zeref [11:07] hate it when they shape the net [11:07] hi kilos [11:07] lol [11:07] Hmmmmm and the rest of the programs that is only windows bound? [11:07] now cant google to find out why peeps cant connect to my hub [11:07] zeref, ask maaz to google for you [11:08] Patriot7912: what kind of windows programs [11:08] then you get 4 choices not hundreds [11:08] but i'll still not be able to go in [11:08] Patriot7912, what programs [11:08] lol [11:08] i too slow [11:09] i thought it was only ms games that ubuntu wasnt hot on [11:10] eish zeref that sucks [11:11] indeed, they do connect but it takes a long time [11:13] like gprs. 6kB/s on a good day [11:16] brb will tell you now [11:17] nah, it's a local netnet [11:17] *network [11:17] res [11:17] wireless [11:17] zeref, makes me think back to when i installed karmic. 35 mins to install and 8 hours to update [11:18] lol [11:18] so who is shaping it there? [11:18] our isp [11:18] hi nlsthzn [11:19] so will only find solution tonights [11:19] thats one of the varsities hey [11:20] nah, the res i'm in is not part of any varsity [11:20] ah so who provides the connection [11:20] speak to them [11:21] or is everyone video chatting on fb in the area [11:21] zeref: what shaping? [11:22] shaping usually only affects P2P traffic [11:22] I have a semi-shaped account at home, and I don't experience any problems [11:25] meh, takes for ever to connect even to googole [11:25] that's weird [11:27] even during the evening, peeps take long to connect to the hub [11:39] so zeref you guys all connect wirelessly to a router in the res or to a wireless antenna somewhere in the area [11:40] i dunno if routers can be governed [11:56] Hi Kilos i tried the links that you posted and nope still no luck [11:56] eish [11:57] is there one machine that doesnt work much [12:01] Yes i guess so [12:01] if you got time install ubuntu on it and see if you still got probs connecting [12:02] ok [12:03] with ubuntu there will be someone here that can help you better [12:03] what ubuntu have you got? [12:05] Patriot7912: have you tried the Samba mailinglists? [12:06] 10.04 [12:06] Well i tried on the samba channel so far no luck [12:06] listen to superfly he knows better [12:06] not many channels are helpful [12:07] Yeah i have seen they not very friendly and helpfull [12:07] I think it has to do with a trust relationship between windows7 and samba [12:07] yeah authentication [12:08] nothing likes windows [12:08] If i may say [12:08] Patriot7912: if people don't seem to be friendly or helpful, it's usually cause you haven't explained your problem sufficiently, though there are times when they are genuinely being jerks ;-) [12:08] Agreed superfly [12:09] Superfly [12:09] When i go to user accounts to add the user for administrative privilges [12:10] Patriot7912: I don't know anything about Windows, don't ask me Windows questions [12:10] Ok no probs [12:10] see why i say install ubuntu [12:10] lol ok [12:11] sorry i am very biased [12:12] No sure agree [12:12] Patriot7912: I work in a Linux-only environment, I don't have any expertise with other operating systems [12:12] Sure i do understand superfly [12:13] Just explaining why I can't help :-) [12:13] Sure [12:15] Patriot7912, if you got 8 machines that cant work i think it is logical to get one going even if you need to install ubuntu just to get going [12:15] you can always transfer mails etc by flash drives id need be [12:16] also maybe with the ubuntu machine you can control permissions [12:17] superfly, is a server seen as another drive on your pc?
