stlsaintoh that tends to be the case in alot of channels03:51
MonDopyeah, I think so, that's why I want to find a channel for beginners03:51
stlsaintMonDop: is there nothing on the web that you cant use to help03:52
MonDopwell, there is, but sometimes I got stuck and don't find the answer either03:52

MonDopwhile mongoDB is NoSQL type database, which is schemaless03:56

nlsthznNewbie question to the room. I want to pin minecraft to my unity bar. it is a java jar file which I typically start from terminal with some options... how would I go about doing this?15:28
holsteinnlsthzn: very good question15:32
hobgoblinI thought that15:32
nlsthznholstein, typically good questions never have good answers :p15:32
holsteindoes http://askubuntu.com/questions/35488/list-of-custom-launchers-quicklists-for-unity do it?15:32
holsteinnlsthzn: hehe15:32
hobgoblincan you not just pin it once it's running?15:35
hobgoblin thought you could do that with unity15:36
holsteinhobgoblin: it might not show up there15:36
holsteinits a terminal app15:36
holsteinsomething that is started from the CLI rather15:36
nlsthznholstein, not neceserally...15:36
hobgoblinoh - there you are - 2 things I knwo little about - unity AND games15:36
nlsthznI can also run it via nautilus... if I select run with java15:36
nlsthznbut with terminal I can tweak it a bit15:36
nlsthzno/ bodhi_zazen15:37
holsteinyeah, that link looks like it'll do the trick, unless that has been broken in the latest unity :/15:37
nlsthznholstein, a quick scan of the ask ubuntu says no... but I think the solution is there somewhere15:37

bobweaverhey guy I have a question15:39
bobweaverso say I working away on a browser right. and I forgot that a konsole is open and I want to use notify-send "' echo shut me down Bob "15:39
bobweaveron a 20minute timer15:40
bobweaveror use cmatrix after the 20 min15:41
hobgoblinI would answer if I knew bobweaver - hang about if there's someone who does theyll answer15:45
holsteinbobweaver: what are you trying to accomplish? a reminder that the browser has been open?15:47
bobweaverholstein:  no that the terminal or konsole is open and that nothing has been used on it for 20 min15:47
bobweaverhave it notify-send `"echo  shut me down bob "`15:48
bobweavernotify-send  =  libnotify-bin  if you did not know15:50
bobweaverso say I was working away on gimp and I forgot that the konsole was open after 20 min notify-send would pop up saying shut me down bob15:52
bobweaveronly for konsole15:52
bobweaverI can not figure out how to set the var for konsole15:52
bobweaverif  $konsole   sleep 20m15:53
bobweavercase  if $konsole  sleep 20m        notify-send echo "shut me down bob"15:54
bobweaverI know that that is not right at all but I hope that it cleared some stuff up :>)15:55
bobweaverI was wonder 1st if pid is always the same if so maybe I could use that ?15:55
bobweaveror maybe instead of notify send cmatrix starts15:56
holsteini dont think it matters how you send15:57
holsteini think its a matter of getting it to send, right?15:57
bobweaveryup15:57
holsteinAFAIK, pid's are not static15:57
holsteinmaybe you can reserve one15:57
bobweaverholstein:  thatks15:57
bobweavermaybe15:58
bobweaverI was likeing the cmatrix idea more and more15:58
bobweaverlike a screen saver for the konsole :>)15:58
bobweavermaybe something in .bashrc16:00
bobweaverI guess it boils down to this I do not know how to make a command happen if something has not been done16:01
holsteinright, you'll need something running in the background16:01
bobweaverYes holstein that is hammers and nails16:01
holsteini personally think its more of a waste of resources than leaving konsole running probably16:01
bobweaversure16:02
bobweavernotify-send would be great for that16:02
bobweavermay be with cowthink :>)16:02
bobweavermayby *16:02
bobweaverarghhh16:02
bobweavermaybe*16:02
holsteinwell, what im suggesting is, whatever you make that keeps track of the terimal activity, is more of a resource hog than the terminal16:02
holsteinneither of which would be on my radar as something that needs attention, resource-wise16:03
bobweaverahh16:03
bobweaverI see16:03
holsteinbut, im sure you *can* do it16:03
bobweaverI know that it is bad to do this but sometimes I forget that the root konsle is open16:04
* bobweaver ducks 16:04
* hobgoblin sees bobweaver ducking ... ;)16:04
holsteini still cant see where that matters16:04
bobweaverlol16:04
bobweaversecurity16:05
holsteinif its local, and no one can get to your machine16:05
holsteinor if its over SSH16:05
bobweaverat that point if root konsole is oipen and I forget about it :>)16:05
holsteini mean, if you are away from the machine, you'll get the popup, and you're gone16:05
holsteinits still open... so on..16:05
bobweaversure16:05
bobweavercould use a var to exit also16:06
bobweaverthat might be best right there16:06
bobweaverspoofing ssh is not that hard16:06
holsteinthe existing SSH tunnel?16:06
holsteinhavent heard of redirecting an ssh session...16:07
holsteinbut, i have a strict 'do what makes you feel safe' policy when it comes to security16:07
bobweaverthat is good policy16:07
holsteinand again, you *can* do this... its just a matter of how16:07
hobgoblinhave you thought about using sudo -i then the system timeout should come into force16:08
bobweaverhobgoblin:  I did not know that16:08
holsteinyeah, i was about to say, lets take konsole out of the equation16:08
* hobgoblin will check it 16:08
bobweaversudo -i kills after so long ? also doed sudo -s or sudo su ?16:09
bobweaverdoes *16:09
hobgoblinnever use them here16:09
bobweaverok16:09
hobgoblinrarely bother with sudo -i tbf16:09
hobgoblinI'll see what it says in 20 minutes16:09
bobweaver:>)16:10
hobgoblinI mean 19 ;)16:10
bobweaverit is not a hug deal I was just studing (for fun)  notify-send cowthink and figlet16:11
bobweaverthought that it could  be used in that kinda way16:11
