rotten777So... installing Kubuntu 11.10 on my workstation with a nVidia card and Intel SSD... everything went great until trying to use the binary nvidia-settings which evidently doesn't install the prerequisite "python-gtk2" to actually SAVE the configuration when changed.... and it only lasted about 3 boots until I had a 51GB ".xsession-errors" file that filled my drive not allowing X to start.00:04
rotten777seriously I had to remove the file and link /dev/null to .xsession-errors as to not fill my drive again00:04
Daskreechantonio_: sorry you can ask in #samba as well.00:05
Daskreechrotten777: install python-gtk2 then?00:05
rotten777Daskreech it is fixed already... I was just amazed how terrible an experience 11.10 has been00:05

Snowhogyofel: Well, a bit of Googling finds this: -DWITH_WEBKIT=OFF    Disable WebKit support. You will not have webpage previews on hovering URLs. So, it appears that a recent compilation of Quassel utilized this option, and now we don't get webpage previews anymore.19:41
BluesKajantlarr, try this , it will show beside inet for eth0 , ip addr19:44

alexdevillxHi all, how to install KDE UFW (Firewall)?19:51
Snowhogyofel: As it was disabled during compilation, it isn't a bug per se. My guess is that the loss of this 'feature' has already been commented on. If the developers decide that it should/needs to be reenabled, it will be in a subsequent update.19:52
Snowhogalexdevillx: ufw is already installed, but not enabled, by default in *buntu versions.19:53
yofelSnowhog: it wasn't *intentionally* disabled during build, quassel is built with:19:53

* TheEvilPhoenix has never seen "DENY" as a valid target20:02
TheEvilPhoenixanyways...20:02
alexdevillxits firewall20:02
TheEvilPhoenixalexdevillx:  "ALLOW" is just that - it does not block whatever matches on the rule.20:02
TheEvilPhoenixalexdevillx:  DROP (DENY?) will just drop the packet and then it disappears.20:03
alexdevillxi need to accept only apps in rule20:03

alexdevillxI have the same stuff on android20:07

alexdevillxwhere can i find iptables20:08
KjetilKjust install it, let debconf manage it, say which external interfaces  you have and which ports should be open, and that's it20:08

KjetilKI think I have a pretty hard problem...: I have a new SSD installed on an old laptop. It installs fine and runs for a while. Eventually, it seems like the filesystem (ext4) is getting corrupted, and finally it is not even recognized by grub, at which point the system becomes unbootable. I think the SSD is to blame, but I should find out for sure before returning it20:18
alexdevillxit doesnt work still20:19
alexdevillxwhat is the dns port20:20
cherHa got it I'm one step further. I was missing libpcsclite-dev. Now I get sun.security.smartcardio.PCSCException: SCARD_E_NO_READERS_AVAILABLE - that should be not so difficult to debug.20:20
KjetilKalexdevillx, I don't know anything about ufw, but I can suggest arno-iptables-firewall20:21
KjetilKvery simple and works great20:21

lethuKjetilK, ext4 is known to behave incorrectly with some western digital drives (which use a feature I can't recall ftm) and also ecryptfs20:23
KjetilKyou install it, answer two or three questions and that's it20:23
KjetilKlethu, hmm, OK, I use ecryptfs20:23
KjetilKlethu, it isn't the ATA TRIM feature?20:23
lethuKjetilK, iirc it's a sensor technology20:24
lethuas in movement sensor20:24
lethufor chock prevention20:24
KjetilKlethu, OK, this is a OCZ device, I don't think it has that20:25
lethuKjetilK, ext4 and ecryptfs has issues on many brands of hd's tho, not only western digital's with that feature20:26
KjetilKIt would be nice if I could repair it from the grub rescue prompt, but it doesn't even detect it is an ext4 filesystem20:26
KjetilKhmmm, ok20:26
KjetilKany ideas what I can do to try to get grub to see the filesystem as an ext4 file system and perhaps get it mounted?20:27

alexdevillxwhats the difference between tcp and udp?20:30
lethualexdevillx, different protocols used by different services20:30
KjetilKIIRC, the live CD didn't recognize the file system either, though20:30
KjetilKalexdevillx, UDP is a much simpler protocol, both are low-level stuff20:31
KjetilKfor one thing, TCP requires traffic both ways, UDP just one way20:31
lethuKjetilK, you should try looking for a data recovery suite/live-cd20:31

* KjetilK nods20:41
lethuKjetilK, I had used reiserfs previously and it had killed my hd20:41

KjetilKI guess I can live without ecryptfs20:41
KjetilKI'm not really paranoid, I just pretend to be :-)20:42
KjetilKOh, I did install with XFS and it still crashed on me20:42
