Tech-1na, i put flash aid in firefox, and ran the script, it installed adobe beta, it didn't like it so i put it back, thats when things started13:25
Tech-1i read the script, and reversed it and re installed normal flash, it now works, but i sometimes have the symptoms described.13:26
Tech-1its like some videos are embedded with something that it only allows certain types of flash to work..like i'm missing a certain file embedding.13:29

ahoxHi, I have problems running skype on 11.10 64bit. It can not find the libXss.so.1, any ideas?14:10
ahoxI installed the 64bit package from skype.com, but file tells me that it is a 32bit executable - the libXss is a 64bit lib, so I guess that's the problem14:11
ahoxIs there a real 64bit skype?14:11
genii-aroundahox: Unfortunately not.14:13
ahoxor any other ideas how to run skype on a 64bit system?14:13
=== Andy_ is now known as Guest70598
ahoxI do have the ia32-libs but I can not find the Xss-32 version14:14
genii-aroundahox: You can specify the architecture of which package to install by appending :arch-type    to apt-get commands, like:    sudo apt-get install something:I38614:17
genii-aroundIn this case the packagename would be libxss114:19
=== Guest70598 is now known as AndyUbuntu
ahoxI installed it now and several other 32bit libs, however I get stuck at the libqtgui4:i386 package. It wants to remove  about 90 other packages due to a conflict with mysql... Isn't there some simpler solution to install skype on a 64bit ubuntu?14:27
genii-aroundahox: Did you upgrade to 11.04 or was it a clean install?14:35
ahoxI upgraded from 11.0414:36
genii-aroundahox: Can you pastebin the list it wants to remove?14:36

TheLastProjectahox: No, the last thing I did before rebooting was...14:45
TheLastProjectOh crap...14:45
TheLastProjectI know what happened...14:45
TheLastProjectI thought installing "gnome-control-center" would maybe make Rhythmbox no longer look like Windows 95 (seeing as it uses GTK). Seemed a logical explanation since it was listed as an "addon" in Muon software center14:47
TheLastProjectI am wondering, can I just uninstall it again without any problems or? =/14:47
ahoxthis shouldn't be a problem at all14:49
ahoxif you want to select another gtk theme you can use gtk-theme-switch14:49
TheLastProjectahox: gtk-theme-switch won't work, KDE doesn't seem to have the latest GTK support yet =/14:50
TheLastProjectWell, let's hope everything will be normal again on reboot14:50
ahoxrythmbox is not a kde app, is it?14:51
genii-aroundahox: I would suggest create /etc/apt/apt.conf   and in there a line of: APT::Architectures { "amd64"; "i386"; };14:54
TheLastProjectGrrrrrr, it broke my notification system14:54
TheLastProjectThat's it, I'm filing a bug report >=O14:55

maria_anyone who has installed Kubuntu on a Ubuntu 10.04?19:10
spartan779ishaan: yeah, sorry, i don't say you don't understand. i'm saying that the question is in wrong english.19:11
ishaanohh..19:11
spartan779ok..19:11
semitonesHey you guys19:14
semitonesI am confused by Activities19:14
semitoneshold on I have a real question, I swear. I just forgot what it was19:15
spartan779My problem is that the 2nd wifi interface don't stay in stand by mode and tries continuesly to connect with the essid marked as connect automatically. But i see that connect automatically is for all wi-fi devices. There is a way to tell networkmanger or or something else that whan i click disconnect the defice must not try to connect to another essid?19:15
semitonesoh yeah I remember now.19:18
Lynouresemitones: to me activities and multiple workshapaces are somewhat exclusive, but probably because I use them the way I use them.19:18
semitonesLynoure: ah ok. I'm setting up an activity for Music, and I'm just running into problems of the 'not knowning how to do things' sort19:19
semitonesI'm trying to install a .plasmoid file from the internet, but when I try using the "install plasmoid" feature of the bottom bar, it fails. Can anyone walk me through the process?19:20
semitonesI click 'install new widget from file", go to where I downloaded it, and when I install, it fails.19:20
semitonesInstalling the package /home/patrick/Downloads/100348-plasma-applet-magic-folder_1.2.3.plasmoid failed.19:21
genii-aroundsemitones: Can you link to where you obtained it from?19:21
maria_I think you should all check your keys from KUBUNTU because a lot of problems are due to this problem with the signatures.19:21
semitonesgenii-around: sure19:22
semitoneshttp://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Magic+Folder?content=10034819:22
maria_When the repositories aren't found  the installs fails. And now it is a BIG problem with UBUNTU AND KUBUNTU.19:23
maria_I resolved mine key problem to search the fastest server for KUBUNTU.19:24
LynoureMagic folder is lovable... but does it not exist in some package?19:24
semitonesgenii-around: it looks like a cool plasmoid: it moves files you drop in it depending on what they are19:24
LynoureOr maybe I have forgotten installing it manually...19:25
spartan779I have 2 wi-fi devices (one usb hi-power and the integrated). The problem is this: starting with together the devices disconnected i click on hi-power and sect an essid to link with. After done this happens that the integrated wifi tries to link to the same essid. And this happens also if an essid or a series of essid are marked as connect automatically. So, is there a way to avoid that the network manager tries to connect to not19:25
spartan779connected interface when one of these is connected?19:25
semitonesLynoure: you can install plasmoids with packages?19:26
Lynouresemitones: I cannot remember what I did... let's see.19:27
daghterishaangt: i will man thx19:28
Lynouresemitones: most likely just used the standard Get new widgets   dialog for it.19:28
semitonesLynoure: first I googled it, then I downloaded it, then I used that dialog19:29
genii-aroundsemitones: Do you have the prerequisites it states on the page? ( PyKDE/PyQt) .. I imagine these are the packages of python-qt4 (or -qt3) and python-kde419:31
lars__hi19:32
Lynouresemitones: if you just want the Magic Folder, use the Download option in the dialog to get it. Worked for me, but then again I had the older version already.19:32
semitonesI don't know... I can search for them in the package manager genii-around19:32
semitonesLynoure: you mean you search for Magic Folder in the dialog?19:32
Lynouresemitones: Or sort by rating =) It's in the top10 or so.19:33
lars__im a linux newbie...i wanna install skype, do i need Canonical Partner before?19:33
semitonesgenii-around: yes, those things are already installed19:34
semitonesLynoure: ok i'll look19:34
lars__is anyone here who can help me?19:35
semitonesLynoure: well it says it worked ;)19:35
semitonesLynoure: ahaha and now I am downloading ALL the highest rated plasmoids. they all look so cool19:37

LynoureHmm, just listened to a talk on Ubuntu Friendly... how does a Kubuntu user run that?19:40
LynoureI cannot find it anywhere, not even with apt-cache search19:40
semitonesI don't think it's something you run19:43
semitonesthere was a ubuntu testing program that submits to ubuntu friendly19:43
semitonesI ran it on kubuntu, but I forget what it was called19:44
lars__how to run the canonical partner repository?19:44
lars__*add19:44
semitoneswhat repository?19:45
lars__i do need this for installing skype19:46
pangolin!partner19:47
ubottuCanonical's partner repositories provide packages a location for software vendors to publish applications. The repo itself can be added by running this in a !terminal: « sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ $(lsb_release -sc) partner" »19:47
semitoneshmm maybe that should be added to the wiki19:47
spartan779Hallo again19:47
BarkingFishhi spartan779 :)19:48
semitoneshmm looks like it is already on the wiki, just in a confusing place19:48
BarkingFishRight, so you need help with something. I don't know what, so please ask your question again and I will *attempt* to help you.19:48
spartan779BarkingFish: I have 2 wi-fi devices (one usb hi-power and the integrated). The problem is this: starting with together the devices disconnected i click on hi-power and sect an essid to link with. After done this happens that the integrated wifi tries to link to the same essid.19:48
spartan779BarkingFish: And this happens also if an essid or a series of essid are marked as connect automatically. So, is there a way to avoid that the network manager tries to connect to not connected interface when one of these is connected?19:49
BarkingFishright, are you using the network manager plasmoid, spartan779?19:49
spartan779the plasmoid...19:49
BarkingFishspartan779: you need to take multiple connections off connect automatically. The only way you'll stop them all trying to connect is to click one to connect to.19:49
BarkingFishdon't have them autoconnect.19:50
spartan779BarkingFish: hum do you mean the app in tray area?19:50
BarkingFishyes, it looks like a speaker icon pointing upwards, with a dot underneath it19:50
semitonesI have a python script called "pythonlogin." If I move it to /home/patrick/.kde/Autostart/ will it start automatically? Or is there more to do?19:51
lars__!partner19:52
ubottuCanonical's partner repositories provide packages a location for software vendors to publish applications. The repo itself can be added by running this in a !terminal: « sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ $(lsb_release -sc) partner" »19:52
lars__is that command right?19:52
spartan779BarkingFish: Ok, right. I mind was that the plasmoid, i'm sorry i'm half-new to kde and i don't know good what are the plasmoid yet.19:52
lars__if i type it in the console nothing happens?19:52
BarkingFishspartan779: the first thing I want you to do is open the network manager, and click "manage network connections"19:52
lars__ 19:52
spartan779BarkingFish: ok done19:52
semitoneslars__: can you paste exactly what you typed and the output to ubuntu.paste.com?19:52
spartan779BarkingFish: ok, i'm in manage connection19:53
BarkingFishspartan779: - Pick the network connection you usually connect to, click on it, and in the right, select Edit19:53
spartan779BarkingFish: and where is written "connect automatically" remove the check point, right?19:54
lars__semitones: where shall i paste it?19:54
BarkingFishyes, for the first thing, but don't apply it yet19:54
semitoneslars__: paste.ubuntu.com, like I said above19:54
spartan779BarkingFish: So what's the next?19:54
lars__semitones: you said ubuntu.paste.com;)19:55
semitonesoh oops :p19:55
BarkingFishspartan779: next, click on the wireless tab, and go down to where it says "restrict to interface" - pick the interface in there which you want it to connect to.19:55
semitonesi guess i am dyslexic too19:55
lars__semitones: http://paste.ubuntu.com/727548/19:55
semitoneswhat happens when you hit enter19:56
BarkingFishspartan779: it may be that both interfaces say the same name - you can change this though, if it's confusing.19:56
lars__nothing19:56
lars__no error or something19:56
semitoneslars__: if there is no error, then it probably worked :)19:57
spartan779BarkingFish: oh ok right i understand the method. But now i want to do mor clear the things since the wlans are named as wlan"i" where i is a number. So is there away to name a wlan device as "TP-Link150" for example?19:57
lars__semitones: k, ill try to install skype now:P19:57
semitoneslars__: yeah! try doing apt-get update first though19:58
BarkingFishspartan779: yes, there is.  In the manage connections area, on the left, you should see a button marked "other" - click it, and in the next window, select "show interfaces as" under the Display heading.19:58
lars__semitones: i type in: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install skype19:58
lars__but then i get an error19:59
semitoneswhat is it19:59
BarkingFishspartan779: In that list, change the entry to "Vendor name", then apply it.19:59
lars__semitones: my linux is in german, he said something about line 59 in the sources.list19:59
BarkingFishspartan779: when you open network manager from then, you'll see the actual names of the wireless devices, not just their system name.20:00
semitoneslars__: hmm, maybe we better take a look at your sources.list then. Can you paste that to paste.ubuntu.com?20:00
lars__semitones: ill try;)20:00
semitoneslars__: installing skype is not normally this difficult, just to let you know :P20:00
lars__:P20:00
semitoneslars__: if you need help on that step, a good command is "kate /etc/apt/sources.list"20:01
semitonesassuming you are in kubuntu20:01
spartan779BarkingFish: Yeah, this displays the chip's name! Very good solution. I love KDE.20:02
lars__semitones: i paste in the output of the kate command?20:02
semitonesto the pastebin, yeah20:03
semitoneshopefully we'll see where it got messed up20:03
BarkingFishexcellent.  All you need to do now, spartan779 - is go through all the other connections you use, the same way, and untick connect automatically - and restrict them all to one interface. If they're marked "Any", then they'll try and connect on whichever wifi devices are available :)20:03
lars__http://paste.ubuntu.com/727559/20:03
spartan779BarkingFish: One thing. If i left connect automatically, and restrict to an interface this means that only the interface selected will try to link automatically?20:03
semitonespangolin: can you help me take a look at lars__'s pastebin?20:03
semitonesline 5920:03
BarkingFishyes20:03
BarkingFishbut, spartan779 - all of the essid's marked connect automatically will still all try and autoconnect through the same device.20:04
BarkingFishThis is why I said for you to uncheck connect automatically, AND restrict them - so only the essid you select will connect, on the wifi device you want it to20:04
semitoneslars__: pangolin: it looks to me like you have too many entries for the partner repositories where just one would be enough.20:04
lars__semitones: how do i solve that problem?20:05
semitoneslars__: do you see all the extra ones?20:05
lars__semitones: in the sources.list?20:05
semitoneslars__: yes. if you do gksu kate /etc/apt/sources.list, it will let you edit the file. You can remove all the extra copies of the partner lines.20:06
semitonesbe very careful with that command though20:06
semitonesyou don't want to accidentally erase your whole sources.lst20:06
spartan779BarkingFish: ok this isn't a problem. What i want to avoid is the double connection to the same essid or to 2 different essids. So what i'll do is remove connect automatically and restrain all the removes to wlan0. After this, connect automatically restricted to the other device.20:06
BarkingFishright, that's the way you need to go, spartan779 :)20:07
lars__semitones: one moment pls, i have to install gksu20:07
semitoneslars__: delete all the extra "partner" lines except deb http://archive.canonical.com/ oneiric partner and deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ oneiric partner20:08
semitoneslars__: no you don't.. or you shouldn't have to20:08
semitoneslars__: there's probably a kde alternative I don't know about20:08
semitonesDoes anybody here know what the kde version of gksu is?20:09
lars__semitones: nothing happens when i type in that command?20:09
semitoneslars__: it's because it's a command I'm remembering from my GNOME days. There is a version for kde that I don't remember20:10
lars__semitones: k20:10
semitoneslars__: try using kdesu instead of gksu20:10
spartan779BarkingFish: Every thing i know of kde and more i love kde. Before i used kde 3.x till 4 becausemy laptop hadn't the power for it. But now i have an HD6650m and all rolls different!!!20:11
lars__command not found20:11
semitoneslars__: kdesu?20:11
lars__semitones: y20:11
semitonesbleh20:12
BarkingFishspartan779: I'm glad you get on well with KDE 4 - i have my problems with it, but I won't go into those here. I'm here to help, not moan :)20:12
lars__bleh instead of gksu?20:12
spartan779BarkingFish: Don't worry, what's your problem?20:12
lars__semitones: bleh instead of gksu?20:12
spartan779BarkingFish: can i see?20:12
semitoneslars__: no, bleh was just me expressing my frustration. Try gksudo20:13
BarkingFishspartan779: kmail 2 is my problem, I asked #kde about it last night and got no response from anyone.20:13
lars__semitones: never heard that kind of expression:D20:13
lars__semitones: gksudo works=)20:13
semitonesok great20:13
BarkingFishIf I opened kmail2, and push "check mail", i get all my mail normally without errors - but during the interval mail checks which it runs, every 10 minutes - I get errors popping up, and being asked for my password because the last login attempt was unsuccessful.20:14
semitoneslars__: any idea how you got that many extra entries in your sources.list file in the first place?20:14
BarkingFishIt's only when kmail2 is closed, so I think maybe akonadi is the problem, it's clearly not doing something correctly20:14
lars__semitones: not really20:14
lars__semintones: what do i have to delete now?20:14
semitonesit might have happened if you tried running the apt-add-repository a few times20:15
BarkingFishSo last night, I removed kmail2 and switched over to Thunderbird :)20:15
lars__semitones: i ran that a few times(20:15
lars__=(20:15
semitoneslars__: that's probably it then. At the end of the file, where there are all those duplicate lines. delete all the ones with "partner" except for two:  deb http://archive.canonical.com/ oneiric partner and deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ oneiric partner20:16
lars__semitones: i have to delete these two lines?20:18
semitoneslars__: delete every line containing "partner" EXCEPT those two lines20:18
lars__semitones: now there are only the 2 first lines right?20:19
semitoneslars__: no those first two lines were wrong since they didn't have oneiric in them20:20
semitoneslars__: it should look exactly like this http://paste.ubuntu.com/727575/20:20
lars__semitones: k, now i have to save the sources.list?20:22
semitoneslars__: there's one mistake there. There should be a space between the "/" and "oneiric"20:22
semitonesthen save, yes20:23
lars__done20:23
semitonesalright now try updating apt and installing skype20:24
lars__k20:24
lars__uhhhhh that looks well:D20:25

semitonessee if you can start it20:25

semitonesNo, unfortunately I don't speak it. I was born in frankfurt though20:26
lars__ah k;)20:26
lars__it works=)20:26
lars__great job man20:26
lars__big thank:)20:26
semitonesawesome! thanks to you! you did it20:27
lars__do i have to same contacts as in windows?20:27
lars__ah here they are:D20:28
BluesKajI'm tired of amarok's lack of options for the user to control his own file lists ...hate this clunky dumbed down version...it's insulting to the user20:34
semitonesBluesKaj: what options is it lacking?20:35
semitonesi've just started using it / haven't noticed anything missing really20:35
semitonesI would like to know how to make Amarok be part of my Activity for music... haven't figured that out yet20:36
BluesKajit doesn't take my edit for example 2cd collections that are number 1-18 on each disk ends up as 2 no1 s 2 2s etc instead of separate folders20:37
semitonessounds like a problem importing the cd20:39
semitonesI never use the file view, just the database20:39
BluesKajthe devs should leave the listing options to the user20:39
BluesKajreminds of the bugs in windows media player20:40
BluesKajwhere's the database view option, all I have is the source , and it still has it wrong20:42
semitonesdatabase view is called 'local content'20:45
semitones'local music' rather20:45
BluesKaj yeh. it's what I use, but it's tillwrong20:47
BluesKajstill wrong20:47
BluesKajthe ppl at #amarok were no help , 98 nicks but no answer yesterday20:49
semitonesBluesKaj: your tags are probably just wrong -- nothing amarok can do really. You should install ex-falso and fix them.20:55
