[01:48] So [01:49] I'm trying to install xubuntu on my new netbook [01:49] but it doesnt recongnizes, either my wired or the wireless card :( [01:49] thats not cool [01:49] no its not [01:49] some HP mininote with broadcom? [01:50] and the installer just doesnt want to move on whitout a network card [01:50] no its an intel classmate [01:50] oh... interesting [01:50] i would just grab the alternate iso then [01:50] not sure what thats about [01:50] im using the alternate is [01:50] from the install, you should be able to sort it out [01:50] o [01:50] hmmm [01:51] GridCube: im new here... all i can suggest is work-arounds [01:51] it says just that "the installer cant go on because no network card is installled" [01:51] :) [01:51] installing minimal from some other alternate iso [01:51] workarounds work [01:51] and installing xubuntu-desktop when you get *some* network going [01:51] mmm [01:52] GridCube: did you try the live one though? [01:52] the gui installer? [01:52] nope [01:52] that cant hurt [01:53] :P well i need the iso [01:53] that would take a huge lot of time [01:53] * holstein wonders if theres a bug somewhere filed for that issue [01:53] GridCube: how about from that iso? the options... 'minimal install, or CLI only [01:53] are those still there? [01:54] theres just cli [01:54] try that [01:54] same installer though... [02:04] what on earth [02:04] no good? [02:06] realtek says its integrated on the kernel [02:07] support for RTL8191SE [02:07] yeah, im surprised you dont have it [02:07] and the installer should go past it anyways [02:07] yes [02:07] it should [02:07] i think i need a new image [02:29] is there a way to update the kernel? [09:31] If I upgrade my browser, or use any PPA, that should not affect BUG reporting for whole OS [09:32] ubuntu-bug is misleadingly made inside to NEED firefox and not to use any other browser. [09:32] Is looks to me like unintentional vendor lock-in for Mozilla Firefox. [09:32] you're using a ppa - ubuntu doesn't fix those bugs [09:32] What if I uninstall firefox? [09:32] well_laid_lawn, well, it is not PPA bug [09:32] then you won't have the bug from what you said [09:32] Ok, I will try uninstalling Firefox [09:33] and will see how it will report a bug then. [09:33] How to report a bug when ubuntu-bug can not find firefox? I have firefox 7 installed instead of in-distribudion one, using PPA repository for newer Firefox. [09:41] ahh ok I'm with you now [09:41] if uninstalled - > no reporting bugs [09:42] So I guess i would need to install in-distribution firefox, to report bug on ubuntu-bug itself. [09:43] you'll need some sort of browser... [09:43] I guess proper way should be that ubuntu-bug should use default browser, whatever it is, in my case seamonkey (or ff7 of chromium or konqueror or opera or...) [09:44] how can they sort out bugs if ppl have who knows what app installed from some ppa? [09:45] the ppa could change so many files [09:45] Aha. but maybe it should work if there is no FF. there are other browsers in official repos, too, maybe someone does not have love on FF from repo? :) [09:46] Hmm, maybe there should be some kind of protection for main distribution, protecting files replacements from PPAs.. but that is another topic. [09:47] I personally think that reporting bugs should not be connected with choosing browser, that would be bug of mine. [09:48] if your reporting bugs in ubuntu it's fair they expect you to be using thier packages [09:49] you can report it as a bug or feature request [09:49] yes that is true. And they should not expect I use firefox. :) I will. [09:49] luck ;) [09:50] I guess better answer would be: Patch :) === `mOOse` is now known as m00se [10:41] Oh, I need to find a way to report bugs alternatively. [15:02] Guest65065: i like using live CD's for that... to see whats doing what and why... you just have to learn what to look for [15:02] but in linux mint, i do get random black screens and boot errors etc, [15:02] sec, I'll get you the exact package name. [18:32] please use a pastebin next time [18:32] I can't even see your question [18:37] I get error when trying to install hardware drivers or updates after fresh install of xubuntu 11.10 [18:39] I have the same problem O_o [18:40] update manager says - Requires installation of untrusted packages [18:40] The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources. [18:47] Also I can't install any packages at all... it seams like something is wrong with repositories, authentification etc. [18:48] Anyone know how I set up a shared printer with Xubuntu? [18:51] changing to main server in software sources fixed the problem... Probably my local server was down [18:53] Xubuntu is like a breath of fresh air after unity... great simple and effective interface [19:06] Anyone with a Dell XPS 17 L702X that has the fan constantly running? If so, any solutions? [19:52] anyone happen to know what you need to tell aticonfig for it to extend my desktop? [19:52] (not make 2 seperate desktops) [19:53] (cant use dtop) [21:14] I have an issue with genmon since upgrading to 11.10. [21:15] Any time I boot up, it won't run automatically...well, it does run, but it only displays a blank spot where it's supposed to display the command output. I have to right click the blank spot and click properties, then it shows up and I can close out of the properties without changing anything. [21:16] I don't have long to get info from here, so if anyone has anything, it'd be greatly appreciated. [21:17] XubuntuKris: i guess the best thing would be to report a bug at bugzilla.xfce.org [21:18] it doesn't sound like there'll be a quick and easy solution [21:19] Maybe. I thought that it might have been something I'm doing wrong.lol [21:20] is there supposed to be a certain way that the command I'm using should be input? [21:20] like, example: uname -n [21:21] should it have quotes? [21:21] or anything else? [21:21] or just the command? [21:25] anyway, times up, I'm out. [21:53] Hi ! [21:53] Is there anyone ? [21:54] I see, I'm alone. :'( [21:55] !ask [21:55] Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). [21:55] oh hi ochosi [21:55] hey Sysi [22:14] hey, is there a way to save current save of windows and process opened and restore after restart? [22:57] Omg linux [22:57] ? [22:57] Broke [22:58] So I updated from 11.04 to 11.10 abner it won't boot [23:05] Hello my fellow Xubuntu inmates :-) [23:06] I trust all of you find yourselves well [23:11] is anyone else having troubles installing Precise Xubuntu ? [23:11] Runs great in live mode but won't install onto ones hard drive. [23:11] precise? that's not even alpha yet. [23:12] there is no support for it yet [23:12] oh they announced name already? [23:12] ages ago [23:12] precise pangolin [23:12] very ubuntu [23:13] test [23:18] too bad one can't install Precise Pangolin it runs very well in live mode [23:18] where did you even get that iso? [23:19] http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/20111105/ ? [23:19] hey i know this might not be the right chan, but how do i install python modules is there something similar to cpan like in perl? [23:20] takis-sanjo: first check if the modules are installable via ubuntu package management [23:21] yes from that exact same place madnick [23:22] okay :) [23:22] How does one change ones nick in Xchat ? [23:22] /nick [23:22] should work in every client === ubuntu is now known as deborah [23:23] Myrtti, nope they are not... [23:23] madnick, did you try installing it ? [23:23] deborah: i am waiting until Dec 1, where testing starts :) [23:24] and here I wanted to run it off of my hard drive lol [23:24] There was a release 20 days ago :P [23:29] pity because the precise Xubuntu live disk runs extremely well. [23:33] are there any differences to Oneiric yet at this point? [23:35] Myrttl, well I noticed that my tracpad works far more smoothly under precise then oneiric. [23:36] granted I'm running precise live so far it doesn't seem install to a hard drive yet [23:41] right... well, to me that wouldn't be good enough reason to install precise permanently yet [23:47] Myrtti, if you have a nice test partition like I do I'd test away.
