qwebirc82658I'm setting up my server (500 gb hdd,3 1tb hdd evga sli le, evga 250 HD, haupauge 2250, i7 - 930 and 6 gigs of memory) it will serve up 2 TB of hd movies and of couse the backend service. whats the dificulty level of setting up the 225000:02
superm1dekarl: okay with both of those two patches, this seems to work for me now: https://github.com/superm1/packaging00:03
Zinn[github.com] superm1/packaging - GitHub00:03
superm1basically call packaging/deb/build-debs.sh fixes/0.24 DIRECTORY_TO_BUILD_IN /full/path/to/patch00:03
superm1if that works for you, i'll submit a merge request for that00:03
superm1and then the workflow can be be far simpler00:04
superm1and if someone doesn't want to build locally, they can still follow that, but build dsc's instead and dput them to a PPA or something00:04
superm1which will make our system to link a PPA to a little web ui more do-able too00:04
dekarlI'll try it tomorrow night (past 1am over here)00:14
qwebirc82658im setting up mythubuntu now (backend only) so i guess ill find out shortly :)00:38

ahhughezhow am I supposed to be able to browse a video collection/directory with mythtv... I tried adding /blah/videos to the video's group but it just said no files found14:43
tgm4883ahhughez, does the mythtv user have access to /blah/videos?14:50
tgm4883ahhughez, is /blah/videos inside your home directory?14:50
ahhughezthe dir is drwxrwxrwx14:52
tgm4883is it in your home directory?14:52
ahhughezsince its ntfs I think thats all it can have (I think, but this is besides the point)14:52
ahhughezno its acutally a mounted hdd on /media/hdd-1tb14:53
tgm4883what kinda files are they?14:53
ahhughezvarious avi's, mpg...14:53
tgm4883and you scanned for changes?14:53
ahhughezno14:53
tgm4883ah14:54
tgm4883so in mythvideo, you need to scan for changes14:54
ahhughezis mythvideo part of the backend ui?14:54
tgm4883it's in the popup menu, M on the keyboard14:54
tgm4883no, frontend14:54
tgm4883on the winmce remote, it's the green win key14:54
ahhughezcool, that picked them up for me14:55
ahhughezI have to say tho (and pretty immediately) browse by ***** options are horrible. I need browse by filesystem and its not on there :'(14:56
ahhughezit's way to late here. thanks tgm4883 - I will call that a win never the less :)14:58

superm1dekarl: well i got my stuff merged in for allowing a patch off the packaging branch18:12
dekarlI saw it getting merge like 5 minutes after I kicked off the build18:13
superm1i updated the recipe here too: http://mythbuntu.org/wiki/recipes18:22
Zinn[mythbuntu.org] Recipes | Mythbuntu18:22
superm1so if it ends up working well for you, feel free to link people to that to kick off builds18:22
dekarlbuild-dsc.sh is build soure packages that get build at some ubuntu ppa farm?18:25
superm1yeah maybe need to explain that better, i suppose not everyone understands what dsc and deb are18:25
dekarlyeah, lets build sour packages ;)18:25
superm1dsc is a source package that you can build at the ubuntu PPA farm instead of locally18:25
dekarland the benefit I get is that I can refer other people to the ppa, too? Or just install it on multiple machines easily? (thinking about how much work it would be to create PPAs for tickets with patches for DVB land)18:27
superm1yes you can refer other people to the PPA too18:28
superm1the only catch is that you need to pick a ubuntu version to target18:28
superm1so the way we get away with that with the regular mythbuntu PPAs is that we build for a whole bunch of targets each time18:28
dekarloh, that will add up... 2/3 Ubuntu versions * 2/3 mythtv versions * n tickets...18:29
superm1in this idea for the web GUI I think we would probably have a checkbox to allow the user to pick a specific target or something18:29
superm1yeah it would18:29
superm1going forward we're going to encourage people to stay on LTS though18:29
superm1starting with 12.0418:30
superm1we won't be doing the non-LTS releases as mythbuntu releases18:30
dekarlbut that only makes sense with backported dependencies (like xmltv, hint hint)18:30
superm1yeah, that will be important then, good point18:30
superm1it might even be possible to do xmltv with a launchpad recipe rather than this complex mythtv build thing18:30
dekarlbut it fits well into my understanding of mythbuntu as some kind of mythtv appliance18:31
superm1Yeah, exactly18:31
dekarlto just use a launchpad recipe would require the packaging bits to be in the main repo?18:32
superm1well it would require the packaging bits to be in bzr laid out a specific way18:33
superm1and allow launchpad to import upstream code18:33
superm1it's doable for xmltv i'm fairly confident, but for mythtv it's not since we assemble a giant source package a special way18:33
dekarlok, your script has dropped a bunch of debs. but I got recordings schedule until 1:30 am :(18:33
superm1cool, well as long as it looks like it actually included the patch and didn't error out, we can find out tomorrow how well it worked then :)18:34
dekarl(like 5 hours nonstop)18:34
dekarlI'm sure that it tested if the patch will apply, but I missed it applying the patch18:35
superm1the applying happens a little bit later from within the debuild command18:35
dekarltada: http://paste.ubuntu.com/732279/18:37
Zinn[paste.ubuntu.com] Ubuntu Pastebin18:37
dekarlI guess theres no way to avoid bzr if you want to release PPAs?18:38
superm1well it's certainly possible18:40
superm1but if you want launchpad recipe driven PPAs you need to use bzr18:40
superm1i might refactor the packaging to be in the git packaging branch entirely rather than this bzr/git combo at some point, but i'm treading in if it ain't broke don't fix it territory right now18:40
dekarli hear you. But one step after the other. first we should get of CVS, it does feel limited once you're used to git18:41
superm1oh yeah certainly18:42
