DavieyBlueprints, Blueprints, Blueprints.16:15
smoserThe thing to be aware of is that feature definition freeze is coming up16:15
smoserhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin/ReleaseSchedule?action=show&redirect=PreciseReleaseSchedule16:15
DavieyMany of the blueprints are not fully spec'd out.  They need to be final by EoW..  Please keep in mind that robbiew and myself need time to review before this.16:15
smoserbad url.16:15
smoserhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin/ReleaseSchedule16:15
hallynsmoser, and what exactly does that mean?  all 'actions' must be in the blueprints?16:15
robbiewAll workitems need to be in the blueprints16:16
hallynk16:16
smoserwell, realistically it means someone (robbiew) has to end up saying "yes we're going to work on this" for this cycle16:16
roaksoaxo/16:16
robbiewso we can effectively track our progress and workload16:16
DavieyAre there any questions regarding blueprint process?16:16
smoserand you have to provide him with enough info to actually make that decision16:16
robbiewsmoser: exactly...thx16:16
utlemmingas a point of clarification, are work items just little "TODO" labels in the blueprint?16:17
DavieyIf anyone does have any questions, please raise them in #ubuntu-server after the meeting.16:17
Davieyutlemming: err, TODO is appended to the end16:17

jamespageTBH first half of week is tear down and rebuild the Ubuntu QA test lab :-)16:36

Daviey(methodology.)16:36
hggdhyes, it does, and we are looking at them16:36
Davieyjamespage: That is great to hear!16:36
Davieyhggdh: Okay.. are you drafting a list of areas that need fixing?16:37
hggdhDaviey: and the unittests we currently have need beefing up16:37
hggdhDaviey: yes, we will be doing it. Meanwhile, please remember to start adding tests to the patches16:38
robbiewjamespage: \0/16:38
Davieyhggdh: Okay, will you be able to report next week where we need improvement?16:38
hggdhDaviey: most certainly16:38
Davieyhggdh: 'tests to the patches'?16:38
hggdhDaviey: well, if a patch changes something (which usually happens), then it would be nice to have an unit test for it16:38
Davieyhggdh: a package derived unit test, if the package supports it's own unit testing?16:39
hggdhDaviey: EVEN better!16:40
hggdhthen we can run it anytime16:40
DavieyHmm.. We don't yet have a framework for external unit tests, do we?16:40
Davieyother than the lp:qa-regression-suite , right?16:40
hggdhno, not yet. By end-of-week we should have directions16:40

smoser#TOPIC Weekly Updates & Questions for the Kernel Team (smb)16:41
=== meetingology changed the topic of #ubuntu-meeting to: Ubuntu Meeting Grounds | Calendar/Scheduled meetings: http://fridge.ubuntu.com/calendar | Logs: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MeetingLogs | Meetingology documentation: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/meetingology | Ubuntu Server Team Meeting | Current topic: Weekly Updates & Questions for the Kernel Team (smb)
* smb has two things...16:41
smbFirst bug 881076: Workaround (idle=halt) proposed and smoser has build images. Upstream still discussing how to really fix this.16:41
ubottuLaunchpad bug 881076 in linux (Ubuntu) "precise kernels do not boot on ec2" [High,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/88107616:41
smosersmb, well, imags have not successfully been built as a result of a perl issue at the moment.16:42
smbSo s/has/will/ :)16:42
Davieysmoser: since when?16:43
smbAnyway, the "right" fix seems to be highly debatable. I follow it upstream16:43
smoserperl transition.16:43
smoserso once that gets sorted out, we'll get images iwith that ahck around.16:44
Davieygreat16:44
smbThe second thing is that I have been reading my work item about openvswitch today (this time with my brains actually turned on). And somehow I remember the request a bit differently. IMO it was to bring the package into main, not the module into the kernel...16:44
Davieysmb: is bug 854050 fixed in Precise?16:44
ubottuLaunchpad bug 854050 in linux (Ubuntu) "BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.38/mm/swapfile.c:255" [Medium,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/85405016:44
smosersmb, i would think we'd need both.16:45
Davieysmb: I don't see why it should be in the kernel, dkms makes more sense until it's mainline upstream, right?16:45
smbDaviey, I need to check, this has been a bit of a fail on the maintainer submission16:45
smbsmoser, I'd be with Daviey there16:45
smoserah. yeah, dkms is fine.16:45
smoseri thought you were implying it was in kernel just not enabled.16:45
smbIt just makes things prone to bit rot in any part16:45
smbAh k. No the package provides a dkms binary16:46
smbBut the package is in universe right now, so I think that need an mir16:46
smoserright.16:46
smoserDaviey, we want an action for mir of openvswitch?16:47
smoserat least to open bug. if its agreed, then i'll take action16:47
smosersmoser, just fyi, i'd like bug 890447 addressed.16:48
smbDaviey, After looking quickly the patch for 854050 is not upstream yet16:48
ubottuLaunchpad bug 890447 in linux (Ubuntu) "need to manually run depmod after installation of linux-image-extra-VERSION-virtual package" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/89044716:48
Davieysmoser: Hmm, are we MIR'ing NaaS componet?16:48
DavieyQuantum16:48
smoseri think no16:48
zulno16:48
smbsmoser, Noted as I think you meant me :)16:48
zulits not part of core project so it stays in universe16:48
DavieySo what part needs openvswitch?16:48
smosersmb i did indeed.16:49
DavieyDon't you need Quantum for openvswitch?16:49
smoseryou need neither for neither explicitly16:49
smoserbut likely quantum would use openvswitch, at least in the open source paths.16:49
zulwhy is openvswitch getting MIRed again?16:49
smoserbut anyway, it i think it is not. i'm not sure why this came up, and i responded poorly.16:49
Davieyzul: that is what i am trying to find out16:50
smoseranyone have a reason as to why openvswitch should be MIRd?16:50
DavieyAre we MIR'ing a a non openstack option, or something to use as openstack?16:50
zuli dont16:50
smoserok. unless someone provides one, we are not.16:50
medberrywill Quantum have any usefulness without it?16:50
hallyni thought we wanted it for openstack i think16:50
hallynlemme look over the mtg notes16:50
smoserugh.16:50
smoserok. i think this is all true:16:51
Davieymedberry: Yes, but if Quantum is in universe, there is no archive requirement for openvswitch to be in main16:51
smoser * quantum can use openvswitch.16:51
zulquantum is *not* going into main16:51
medberryDaviey, nod.16:51
DavieyUnless there is another use-case we care about?16:51
smoser * quantum can use other networking back ends16:51
medberrygotcha.16:51
smoser * quantum will is not a part of openstack core (or whatever thats called) for essex16:51
Davieysmoser: table this, unti we get more info.16:51
medberryyep, quantum can use real hardware16:51
smoser * some parties have requested we support quantum16:51
smosermoving on.16:51
smosersmb, you have ability to at least assign that depmod bug to the rigth person?16:52
smbsmoser, Yes, or take it myself16:52
smoserplease do.16:52
Davieyany other kernel bugs?16:52
smoserother than bugs listed, the kernel has no bugs16:52

ogasawaraWe have uploaded the 3.1.0-2.3 Ubuntu kernel which was based on the upstream v3.1 kernel. Upstream is in the early -rc releases of the v3.2 kernel, ie currently v3.2-rc1.  Given a higher likelihood for instability with an early -rc, we will hold off doing the first 3.2.0-1.1 upload until we rebase onto upstream v3.2-rc2. I would anticipate this prior to Alpha 1 (Thurs Dec 1). If there are any patches which need to land in17:02

leoggkokoye2007, bonepyaesone, congrats and thank you!20:13
czajkowskiok so for the remainder of the meeting we're going to look at the bp and add some of the action items to it20:14
czajkowskiand review some of the items that came up20:14
czajkowskiso twinnings idea came from popey suggestion20:14
czajkowskiand I think it went down well at UDS20:14
czajkowskithe idea being that an Approved loco would be twinned with an unapproved loco and help them in how to get started20:14
czajkowskiand give them ideas20:15
czajkowskiso we needed to come up with teams20:15
czajkowskiwhich I think we more or less have done so ?20:15
czajkowskiUbuntu UK20:15
czajkowskiUbuntu France20:15
itnet7Ubuntu Florida20:15

czajkowskiUbuntu Italy20:15
czajkowskileogg: what team did you suggest?20:15
leoggczajkowski, Ubuntu Nicaragua with Ubuntu Costa Rica20:16
AlanBellUbuntu UK is up for it (no idea who to twin with)20:16
AlanBellbug 890843 has been reported20:16
czajkowskiok so that's 520:16
ubottuLaunchpad bug 890843 in Ubuntu IRC Bots "#vote doesn't work without a subject" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/89084320:16
czajkowskidid we habe a 6th in mind ?20:17
czajkowskiis there an approved team we think that has the time to help on this ?20:17
czajkowskior should we stick with 5 for this cycle and see how it works out20:17
itnet7I think we should stick with 520:17
czajkowskiok20:17
itnet7just my opinion though20:18
leoggitnet7++20:18
czajkowskiso we're agreed on thos teams and we need to contact their team contacts which I think we have done bar Italy to make sure they are up for it20:18
czajkowskiand then create the bugs so we can track this during the cycle20:18
itnet7Yup20:18
czajkowskiI really think this could work and then expand for furture cycles20:18
* AlanBell wonders if itnet7++ makes itnet820:18
itnet7;-) AlanBell !20:18
czajkowskiitnet7: do you have a team in mind for the Florida loco ?20:19
leoggAlanBell, ;)20:19
itnet7czajkowski: I was doing a bit of research, but haven't really decided20:19
itnet7I would like to try and pick a newer team20:19
czajkowskiitnet7: ok, we'll create the bugs this week at least for those teams that are menotoring and then add the unapproved teams to it20:20
czajkowskiitnet7: ok20:20
czajkowskineed to find a team for Ubuntu UK also20:20

=== meetingology changed the topic of #ubuntu-meeting to: LTP renaming the main team page for teams
czajkowski#link http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/20:20
czajkowskithis topic has been bouncing around for some time20:21
* AlanBell wants to replace it with a second level of maps20:21
czajkowskiif you land here on this page  looking for a team, it's hard to find the team you are looking for as they all have their own way of naming themselves20:21
czajkowskiwhich is fine20:21
czajkowskiwhat was proposed and agreed at UDS was the *display name* on this page alone would be changed by the developers20:22
czajkowskiso it would read Team name loco20:22
czajkowskimaking it easier to find your team name if you are looking for infomation on one20:22
czajkowskiso I think we should do a joint blog post with the LTP developers and explain in more detail the benfit of doing so20:23
czajkowskiand to make it clear that nothing else is changing on the team name20:23
itnet7Sounds good to me20:23
czajkowskijust the display name on the one page20:23
czajkowskiitnet7: can you take an action item to work with the dev team to start that this week please20:23
itnet7Sure20:24

czajkowski#topic Larger teams to follow the example led by USA and follow state/provence break down20:25
=== meetingology changed the topic of #ubuntu-meeting to: Larger teams to follow the example led by USA and follow state/provence break down
czajkowskiThis was discussed again at UDS and the thought behind it was that counteries which are rather large such as Australia, Canada and possibly Brazil who have already done this should follow the example of USA20:26
czajkowskione main team and sub teams can be created depending on the level of activity in an provence/state like USA20:27
czajkowskiIt would benefit if some areas are very active so cd allocation would go to one state if they were approved rather that one country20:27
czajkowskiin the future as teams grow it would be harder to then do this20:27
czajkowskiso planning for team growth now for 2+ years and being pro active rather than being re active would make more sense20:28
czajkowskihuats: itnet7 leogg any comments?20:28
huatsI agree20:28
itnet7I agree that it would be a good idea, but I think you've pretty much covered the whys20:28
leoggme too, it makes perfectly sense to me20:29
czajkowskiok so we need to again explain this carefuly and clearly to teams so they don't get upset or worry. the reasons for this and the benefits for doing so20:29
czajkowskihuats: leogg care to take an action item to draft this blog post please ?20:29
