bekorit has some different window managers? when you start up but i can only seem to use the lubuntu or default one is you can choose is gnome any thing you are familiar with?01:56
Unit193The Ultimate edition isn't Lubuntu, it's only based on it and isn't exactly supported in here01:56
Unit193If someone can help, great, but chances aren't high01:57
bekorok well that is good to know is this not the lubuntu channel?01:57
Unit193Yes it is01:58
bekorit says lubuntu when you first start up01:59
bekorthe funny thing is when i installed an nvidia driver it started up saying ubuntu 10.1001:59
Unit193Did you download it from http://ultimateedition.info ? If so, it's not Lubuntu02:00
Unit193We can try to help, but I haven't ever used it02:00
bekori understan thank you anyway02:00
Unit193Can you re-ask in different words?02:01
Unit193And sorry, I'll see if there is another place02:01
Unit193bekor: #UltimateEdition02:03
bekorthanks so much02:03
reflexrgI think I'll stick with lubuntu its official ubuntu distro family02:04
Unit193They also have a forum02:04
Unit193I think it would be more lightweight02:04
reflexrgso you know its gonna be good quality and professional over other distros02:04
reflexrgthat are rebundled ubuntu02:04
reflexrgits more lightweight?02:05
Unit193I haven't tested, but the reason for Ultimate is to have everything :P02:06

holsteinif you like what is happening, you can decide how you would like to make that permanent03:39
reflexrgdoesn't using compiz with lxde defeat the purpose of lxde of lightweightness?03:42

reflexrgclear your browsers cache and cookies maybe???04:51
reflexrgthen restart04:51
psychx-I'm sure if I restart this will be fixed, but I don't want it to happen every time. I'm not arguing, I'm just wondering if maybe there is a better fix?04:51
psychx-Can someone help me diagnose my problem? I have no sound, I just rebooted. I had sound find in TeamSpeak3, then opened Chromium - no sound. Rebooted. Now I opened Chromium, no sound. Opened Banshee and imported mp3's that I know work, and I still have no sound.05:03

JohnDoe_71RusInstall by the virtualbox lubuntu 11.10. On a disk already was lubuntu 10.04 have suggested it to update. It will work with ubuntu 10.04?07:31
icerootJohnDoe_71Rus: ?08:16
zorsHi everyone.  Currently have Ubuntu 11.10 installed on my Toshiba Notebook.  Idle cpu usage VERY high, sometimes as much as 30% when doing nothing.  TOP reports nothing out of the ordinary, which is strange.  As a last resort, I've downloaded the Lubuntu 11.10 ISO in hope of ridding myself of the problem.  So, question is, would running Lubuntu use fewer idle cpu cycles (and less heat) than vanilla Ubuntu??  Have already run the Lubuntu L08:20
zorsive disc session - everything seems okay, but would just like some sort of confirmation before I wipe the drive.  Thanks.08:20
icerootzors: you dont have to wipe the drive08:21
icerootzors: sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop08:21
zors@iceroot, thanks, tried that already, same problem I'm afraid.  The prob disappears when I run the Lubuntu Live disc.  That's why I'm looking toward a clean install, but afraid the problem will return.08:23
icerootzors: in top is there a high %wa value?08:24
icerootzors: high = more then 2008:25
icerootzors: if it is high, use iotop to see what is causing it08:25

moomooHi I have a quick question about this lubuntu problem that I'm having.  Randomly my monitor will go black, and then go back to normal. This usually happens once a session. Also it seems some of my windows and colors gets screwed up. For example, one of my application window will look like what ever is behind the window. Like's its transparent in a way.17:58
moomooI've never had this problem in 11.04, but recently had this problem since I've upgraded to 11.10.17:58
bioterroryou have screensaver disabled?17:59

Gege71hello19:54
peaceZhello all19:54
reflexrghi peaceZ19:55
peaceZi a new about lubuntu but experienced under ubuntu anyway, i have problems to install lubuntu on a Eeepc Asus http://usa.asus.com/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_701SD/#specifications  the resolution of the screen is 800X48019:59
peaceZfirstly i am surprised when choosing any between the livecd boot or the installation i get always a blue screen with a login window, what to do there i have the choice between user and root, but it need a pasword20:01
peaceZmore than that the resolution of my screen does not enable to see the complete image, is it possible to force a constraint resolution for the live cd or install ?20:02
reflexrgyeah I think so20:02
peaceZi thought i would have nothing to do and it would drop on the desktop as an ubuntu20:02
reflexrgyou have to edit the bootup options before the cd boots up20:03
reflexrgI believe20:03
bioterrorpeaceZ, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/FAQ/Workarounds#Screen_resolution_is_wrong.2C_no_matter_what_I_do.21.2120:04
peaceZthank you for the link bioterror20:04
reflexrgeach release of ubuntu fixes screen resolution problems20:04
reflexrgmine use to be messed up a few releases with the bootup texts20:05
reflexrgbut screen resolution was normal at login and desktop20:05
bioterrorwish my *buntu bootups were just texts20:05
reflexrgyou can edit that20:06
bioterrorno I cannot20:06
reflexrgsure you can to make it show texts instead of the splashscreens20:06
bioterrorplymouth is hard coded, and so is upstart20:07
reflexrgI see20:07
reflexrgwell I haven't messed with it since old releases20:07
peaceZbioterror on first step of the tutorial already it fails, how comes, ctrl+alt+f1 does not works,20:07
bioterrorpeaceZ, that should take you to the TTY120:07
bioterrortty120:07
bioterrorconsole20:07
peaceZis it normal to reach that login window before all when starting ?20:07
peaceZyeah i know it about any ubuntu, but in this case even the keyboard is working , it does not behave like that20:08
bioterrorhmm20:08
peaceZi can't reach the terminal20:09
bioterrorwe could do it in a dirty way20:09
bioterrorwhen you boot, you hold left shiftkey20:09
bioterrorso that you end up to grub20:09
peaceZthe mouse is inoperant too20:09
bioterrorthen you edit the boot line, after "ro splash" or what was it20:09
bioterroryou add: text20:10
peaceZi am under live cd20:10
bioterrorwhat20:10
peaceZno grub installed yet20:10
peaceZit is the first launch20:10
bioterrornothing much to do with LiveCD's20:10
peaceZboth, installation and livecd behaves same20:10
bioterroruse alternate for installing20:10
bioterroror mini.iso20:11
bioterror!alternate20:11
ubot5The Alternate CD is a classic text-mode install CD. It supports a wider range of hardware than the !LiveCD, and can also be used as an upgrade CD. http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/alternative-download#alternate - See also !minimal20:11
bioterror!mini20:11
ubot5The Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want (the installer is like the one on the !Alternate CD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD20:11
peaceZbut i saw installation it the start menu anyway20:11
peaceZok i will download it20:11
bioterrormini.iso, my favourite!20:11
peaceZlubuntu still in beta version or is fully fonctionnal yet ?20:12
peaceZmwhat are differences between mini iso and alternate?20:13
peaceZin which case to choose one or other ?20:13
bioterroralternate installs whole desktop from text based installer20:13
bioterrormini install just core and leaves you into console20:13
peaceZheu my friend will throw it in my face if i let him under terminal :D20:15
peaceZok then if i use alternate it is a good option ?20:16
bioterrorfrom terminal you can just fetch all the latest packages with commands: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop --no-install-recommends20:16
bioterroralternate is a good option20:16
peaceZsoon i will burn it, it is downloading well 1,3Mb/s20:19
bioterrorI hope you took "lubuntu" alternative20:20
bioterrornot the ubuntu ;)20:20
moomooHi bioterror, my monitor display just got screwed again. Let me post the screenshot up.20:20
peaceZquite sure about it don't worry ;)20:21
peaceZi just wonder a modern notebook with only 8Mb hard drive, it is quite poor for an os20:22
moomoohttp://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/256/201111171520171920x1080.png20:22
bioterror8GB? ;)20:23
peaceZif it is too greedy i will have the option to use linux puppy :s20:23
moomooMainly it's my keepass window that gets screwed up, and sometimes my firefox window has a similar problem.20:23
peaceZbioterror http://usa.asus.com/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_701SD/#specifications it is sd card looks like20:23
peaceZAsus surprised me always :D20:24
bioterrormoomoo, I dont see any problems? :)20:26
bioterrormoomoo, or is that white box in your XChat? :D20:26
moomooSee my keepass window. I don't if you guys have used the program before but it's taken on my xchat window.20:26
moomooI have xchat on the right side and keepass on the left. But my keepass window has taken my xchat window and used it as it's background. If I overlay another window on top it'll change again.20:27
moomooSorry, it's difficult to explain my problem.20:27
peaceZhaha the best writing speed 4x , enable to keep the cd's valid longer20:33
bioterrormoomoo, that's normal! ;D20:38
bioterrormoomoo, normal openbox behaviour :D20:38
bioterrormoomoo, but I could say that I've managed to fix that with xcompmgr20:38
bioterrormoomoo, xcompmgr -c -t-5 -l-5 -r4.2 -o.55      << I've got that kind of line in autostart20:40
peaceZbioterror then i burned the cd now i am going to try it with your command line20:42
bioterrorpeaceZ, godspeed!20:42
peaceZuntill now i make a trial it enable me to use 640x480:32 that looks good then lets see it does not do anything bad untill now20:47
bioterrorI have two phones with same resolution :D20:48
moomooThanks bioterror.20:49
bioterrormoomoo, did it help?20:49
peaceZwow it is working on phones too ? :o20:49
peaceZsurely not mine :D it is a Neandertalian phone :D20:50
moomooYes :D. What does that command do?20:50
bioterrormoomoo, enable composition ;)20:51
bioterrorpeaceZ, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8D018lQeVz4 for example20:52
moomooHmm, I don't understand why having composition off would screw up my windows. I'll look further into composition.20:53
bioterrormoomoo, becouse openbox ;)20:53
bioterrorI've had the same20:53
bioterrorbut seems like you have decent hardware... :-)20:54
moomooMaybe I shouldn't be using openbox then. Well I have composition off because I didn't want to slow down my machine.20:54
moomooWhat window manager are you using bioterror?20:54
bioterrorI'm using openbox20:54
bioterrorand i'm using gnome3 with gnome-shell20:55
bioterrorand on one laptop I have fluxbox20:55
moomooI'm still using gnome 2. I'm worried about the new gnome3 UI slowing down my machine.20:56
bioterrorwell20:56
bioterrorit will slow down if you have 64bit installation and way too less RAM20:56
bioterrorthis laptop with 2GB of RAM was rather slow in my usage20:56
moomooIs there anyway I can test gnome3 and go back to gnome2 if it's too slow.20:57
bioterrorI would rather go with the XFCE4 than Gnome 220:57
bioterrorbut that's just me20:57
moomooThanks again. I'll do my research :)20:58
wxli'd rather run ANYTHING other than gnome20:58
bioterrorwxl, dont be like that20:58
moomooWhat are you running wxl?20:58
wxli'm just being honest20:58
bioterrorI like how Gnome 3 works together20:58
bioterrorall the google calendars and so on is there integrated into calendars20:59
bioterrorand gives notifys20:59
wxlmoomoo: i rather like lxde although i've been given some reason to look into enlightenment of all things20:59
bioterrorit's like windows desktop on good drugs20:59
wxlomg20:59
wxlonly thing is, that's a hefty cocktail of drugs20:59
wxlfun as they are, i don't think i can afford them20:59
bioterroryeah, Elvis's cocktail :D20:59
bioterrorbut I'm using calendars a lot, and Gnome 3 works for me21:01
bioterrorI'm syncing my and wife's calendars to phone and few computers ;)21:01
moomooWell that's another reason why I wanted to try out gnome 3. I couldn't get conky to sync with my google calendar :(21:02
bioterrorand all other small things21:03
bioterrorbut I've wasted more time on this laptop with openbox + tint2 than what I've wasted on configuring gnome321:03
bioterrorand I'm still on half way there with openbox :D21:03
wxlyou know the thing that sold me on enlightment and wanted to check it out is that it's modular21:03
bioterrorE17 is far from good21:04
wxlif you could unload the unnecessary parts of gnome that would be nice21:04
bioterrorall the menu's and things are non-logical21:04
wxlagain, i'm at the conceptual phase21:04
wxlhaven't got my hands on it yet21:04
bioterrorand everytime I've tried it, it has crashed21:04
moomoowxl: Lol! I thought you mean enlightenment as in you're still looking for a window manager.21:05
bioterrorEnlightenment DR17 did not lure me into the path of light ;)21:05
wxlno, yeah, moomoo, i have been considering playing with enlightment the window manager21:06
wxlwe'll see21:06
wxlthere's also this every continuous temptation to try a dynamic window manager21:06
bioterrordwm could be a thing21:06
