[00:12] evening [11:06] ebel: it looks like I'll be going to Limerick on 03 Dec 11. [11:07] ok. would you like to bring some CDs down? [11:07] I can meet up or post out to you or what would you like? [11:07] If UHD goes ahead on 02 Dec 11 I could pick up a load of CDs to bring down to infoturtle [11:08] kewl [11:09] I suppose I could bring some for ucl milklabs and the learning centre. [11:09] I'll talk numbers with infoturtle and get back to you. [11:13] sure thing [11:13] let me know how many ye need [11:26] Silly me ucl should have been UL [11:27] careful now, don't be giving them too many letters! [11:27] I've sent him a DM on twitter. Once I hear back I'll let you know. [11:27] ebel: don't forget we're off to limerick at the weekend [11:28] and may have sometime on sunday afternoon before our train home [11:28] of course! [11:28] well i'm not sure, depends on when my mum wants to leave [11:28] so we miiight/might not have time [11:30] if anyone was to meet us at the train station, it would take no more than 2 minutes [11:30] yes good point [11:31] our train is at 4.30pm - so i would suggest if anyone in limerick wants CDs to meet us at 4pm in the station [11:32] Right I've messages infoturtle on twitter. [11:32] we have several backup plans [11:34] aloha [11:35] yo czajkowski [11:36] hello czajkowski, ready for your trip back home? [11:37] kinda [11:40] we are considering having an ubuntu hour on 2nd december, to mark your return [11:45] what's your plan? [11:47] They have a plan. [11:47] There are 6 czajkowski models. [11:48] oh cool [11:48] um no idea [11:51] well, we could bring you back to the 'batter... some good pubs there! [11:55] waiting to know by next tuesday if I am going or not [11:55] kinda depends on some stuffwill keep ye posted [11:55] thanks :) [13:55] ebel: slashtommy do either of ye havea camera fitted to your helmet for when ye bike around? any recommendations? [13:55] czajkowski: yes that's how we take the vidfeos [13:56] http://youtube.com/slashtomeu [13:56] nods [13:56] http://www.amazon.co.uk/Drift-HD170-Stealth-Action-Camera/dp/B004L5AF4Q/ref=dp_cp_ob_ce_title_2 [13:56] dont know much [13:56] * slashtommy wants to see a picture of czajkowski on a hog [13:56] was wondering whats what [13:56] slashtommy: no chance the biy likes his bikes [13:56] me no so much [13:56] ebel knows more [13:57] http://www.amazon.co.uk/Contour-GPS-Full-Helmet-Camera/dp/B00426DQ2W/ref=dp_cp_ob_ce_title_3 seems to be everywhere or at least the brand si [13:57] you should get on the bike ;) [13:57] nope [13:57] not a hope in hells chance that will ever ever happen :) [13:57] tis fun, what does he ride? [13:58] * slashtommy will let ebel post a link to the camera we use [13:58] um [13:58] a I know it's big [13:58] and it's a bmw [13:58] and he's selling his suzuki [13:58] we have one of these http://driftinnovation.com/hd170-action-camera/ [13:58] that reminds me, i have more video of wicklow that i still need to edit [13:59] on SD mode it works in wide-angle mode - major improvement and makes the video appear to be normal speed [14:00] czajkowski: yeah the drift if the one we have [14:00] if you're not in wide-angle mode, you miss out on the peripherial vision which then makes all the video seem much slower than real life [14:00] brb [14:00] nods [14:00] so I should buy a SD card also with it ? [14:01] cztab: are you bring your boy back home? [14:01] aye for xmas [14:01] you would need a few SD cards [14:01] and i take it that this questioning is for xmas... ;) [14:01] yup [14:01] ok so max size is 32 [14:02] how many hrs would that get you ? [14:02] many [14:02] * ebel returns [14:02] battery would probably get you first [14:02] yes you'll need a SD card with it [14:02] ok [14:02] we have a 16GB one, it takes about 5 hours of footage [14:02] ebel is best to advise, all i know is that you're best to stick with SD [14:02] ok they're on amazon for about 29 [14:02] so not too bad [14:02] the drift does several resolutions, 480, 1020ish and 1280 [14:02] will have a look more and see if its worthwhile [14:03] thanks for the info lads [14:03] sorry 480, 720, 1280 [14:03] 1280 is HD [14:03] http://youtube.com/slashtomeu - all those videos are shot with that camera in SD [14:03] we usually use 720 which is DVD quality [14:03] if it's in 720 then it has a 170 degree field of view, basically wide angle [14:03] if it's 1280 then it's like normal [14:03] nods [14:04] ok [14:04] cheers :D [14:04] we always use 720 with the windangle [14:04] you can see here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rorymccann/5822416632/in/set-72157626938588538/ [14:05] actually [14:05] i'm a bit confused, might be getting mized up [14:05] anwyays the wide angle is great [14:05] cause it means you really don't have to aim it [14:05] aye [14:06] About 75% of the video footage we took (on a cheaper camera) of european bike tour is rubbish. Just the sky or something [14:06] which was very annoying [14:06] * slashtommy hopes czajkowski's boy buys here some gear and a helmet for xmas ;) [14:06] her* [14:06] And the drift has a little screen [14:06] ebel: we must go again [14:07] So i used to sit on the bike, take a photo, then look at the photo on the little screen and check that it was ok befor eheading off [14:08] I think the countour has an iphone app (with an android app coming soon™) that allows you to view out the camer [14:08] so it's like a little broadcast. you can uise the iphone as a remote control view finder [14:08] actually this http://www.flickr.com/photos/rorymccann/5822416632/in/set-72157626938588538/ must be the HD non-widescreen [14:09] One annoying thing with the shitty one (that cost ~ €50) was that everything looked slow [14:10] Whereas with the wideangle, since you can see so far to the sides, you can see road & bushes etc whizz by. Makes it look *much* faster. [14:10] so you look at the video and go "Crumbs, I don't remember going that fast!" [14:10] (Conversely, when looking at the old one, it was like "wow, we werent' going that slow, were we?" [14:11] wideangle is great for when you move you head around. One problem with the old non-wideangle one was that you (& your head) move around when riding a bike [14:11] So the video is very jerky. However with a wideangle it's much less of a problem, since the viewer is able to keep the important parts in view [14:11] wideangle is definitely the way [14:13] this is a wideangle view http://www.flickr.com/photos/rorymccann/5855915667/in/set-72157627004907232 and you can see the walls at the side whizz past, but that's cause you're almost looking due left [14:14] However, i used my old strap for the the drift, You get a few velcro things with the drift, and some clips, so I dunno how great that is [14:14] You also get a little remote control with the drift to turn it on/off. it's real handy [14:15] I've attached it to the side of my tank bag [14:16] You can slightly see the fish-eye/wideangle in these 2 photos http://slashtom.eu/displayimage.php?album=28&pos=1 http://slashtom.eu/displayimage.php?album=28&pos=0 [14:17] You can see what it looks like strapped to the helmet here: http://slashtom.eu/displayimage.php?album=28&pos=8 [14:19] the drift comes with a halfsize battery so you can take about 4 hours of video [14:19] We bought a bigger one here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Drift-HD170-Long-Life-Battery/dp/B0046ZG7OI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1321539522&sr=8-2 [14:19] and it will last all day [14:23] For the record a 40 minute video is about 2.5GB [14:24] There are several other popular camera for bikes, GoPro, Contour etc. [21:30] evening ubuntu folk :) [21:31] hi [21:32] hi moylan [21:32] sorry for missing last nights irc meetup. slept through it. [21:33] good you got some sleep [21:33] :) [21:34] had tried to time been out earlier in the day and sleep time to be there but no such luck. [21:35] not to worry. plenty more of them in the future [21:35] did you read the logs? [21:35] not yet. was going to have a rummage last night but will get to them tonight. [21:36] http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2011/11/17/new-ubuntu-loco-council-announced/ [21:36] meet most of your new loco council : ) [21:37] hi czajkowski, a year in the uk? [21:37] yup [21:37] time flew! [21:38] congrats czajkowski [21:38] thanks [21:38] :) [21:38] 2 more years [21:40] aye, well deserved. [21:41] thanks [21:41] agreed
