ToeTagHello everyone02:55
GridCubehello02:55
ToeTagGrid, this is my first time using IRC - this room is for xubuntu-talk right?02:56
GridCube:) yes indeed02:56
ToeTagawesome! I did my very first linux install about a week ago - so exciting02:57
GridCubeyou can use the tab key to autocomplete users names, so they will get highlighted and know you are talking to them02:57
GridCube;D congratulations!02:57
GridCube:D how is it going?02:57
ToeTagGridCube, wow cool trick! You know, it's going well, I had NO idea what I was doing but I got a working build. To be candid, I *did* use a windows installer though (installed xubuntu through windows OS)....is that cheating? :P02:58
GridCubewubi eh, well, we all start somewhere :)02:59
ToeTagyeah exactly02:59
ToeTagnot stopping there!02:59
ToeTagi want to do gentoo or like archlinux from scratch sometimes soon $$$ hah02:59
GridCubeToeTag, the tab trick is really importan in linux in fact, you can, and should, use it on terminals too, to autocomplete program names03:00
ToeTag!! my first *technical* learned trick03:00
ubottuToeTag: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)03:00
GridCubeXD ToeTag thats a bit too much i think03:00
ToeTagubottu, i can't tell!03:00
ubottuToeTag: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :)03:00
GridCubeoh, ToeTag i pressent you to kubot, he is a bot03:00

ToeTagGridCube, interesting03:01
GridCubewell, its technically a it, but we call him he03:01
GridCube:)03:01
ToeTaghaha03:01
ToeTagGridCube, what's your linux pedigree...how did you get into all this03:02
GridCubeToeTag, if you don't have a support question you should go to #xubuntu-offtopic03:02
GridCubehere is for helping people with problems :D03:02
ToeTagGridCube, oh i have them !03:02
ToeTagalright i'll dig right in03:02
GridCubeyou know how to change channels?03:02
GridCubeits easy type:03:02
GridCube/j #xubuntu-offtopic03:03
ToeTagfirst, in regards to optimizing speed on low-spec machines, would you say xubuntu or lubuntu to be superior03:03
GridCubelubuntu, by far03:03
ToeTagi was completely overwhelmed by all the different opinions, and the fact that different 'desktops' can be installed on different distros03:03
GridCube:D yes thats fun03:04
ToeTaglubuntu would be more streamlined than linux mint xdfe i think it was?03:04
GridCubei guess so, i never used mint03:04
GridCubewell i lie, once in 200903:05
ToeTagthe distro is for a weenie netbook, and i only really need bare bones - trying to find what would be the fastest03:05
GridCube:) ToeTag mind if we continue this on offtopic?03:05
ToeTagnot at all, i'm sorry grid03:06
GridCube:D don't worry03:06
mikodoI am lost.. What is the difference between #xfce in Freenode and #xfce in Ubuntu-servers... they are different I see... Why have more than one IRC?03:10
mikodo__Ya, I am lost.. this is #Xubuntu, is it on #ubuntu servers and Freenode or are they different03:15
GridCubethey are the same03:15
GridCube:)03:15
mikodo__GridCube, So, it doesn't matter from where I log in from then?03:16
mikodo__I guess, I could do it from FF too03:17

mikodo__GridCube, Thanks103:18

tyrokHi!  I run with a dark theme, and when I upgraded from Natty to Oneiric, a bunch of my GTK-based programs (gedit, rhythmbox, etc.) now have a light theme.  XFCE's GTK theme is set correctly, and everything else in XFCE is showing a light theme, except inside of certain programs.  Any ideas?03:18
tyrokI should mention that as best I can recall, the programs that now have a light theme formerly ran with the same dark theme as the rest of the system in Natty.03:19
GridCubetyrok, some programs on 11.10 use gtk303:21
GridCubesome other do not03:21
GridCubethis causes problems03:21
tyrokAh, I hadn't thought of that.03:22
tyrokNot being very familiar with GTK3 yet, is there a way to change the theme?03:22
tyrokOr is it the same theme and the theme just needs to be updated to work with GTK3?03:24
GridCube:( sorry tyrok i dont know03:25
tyrokWell, thanks for the pointer anyway.  I may be able to fix this thing yet.03:29
tyrokGridCube: That was it exactly, by the way.  Built a basic GTK3 theme to match my current dark GTK2 theme.  Not perfect yet, but it does solve that mystery!03:58
tyrokThanks for the help!03:58
GridCube:D you are welcome tyrok04:05
GridCubeglad to help04:05
tyrokPretty cool how that works.  I may have to see if I can build a few more GTK3 themes - the selection currently seems to be a bit lacking compared to GTK2.04:09
ochosityrok: if you're more interested in that, i could use some help porting xubuntu's default themes to gtk304:22
ochosiatm only greybird works, but i'd also like to do bluebird and albatross (the latter being a bit more tricky)04:23
tyrokochosi: You built greybird?04:23
ochosiyup04:23
tyrokAwesome.  That's what I used as a base for mine, since I couldn't find any others I could start from.04:23
ochosi:)04:24
tyrokThanks!04:24
ochosiit's not perfect, in fact there are one or two widgets i have to fix for precise04:24
ochosithanks though04:24
ochosiit's nice to see it's appreciated04:24
ochosiwhich theme did you port?04:24
tyrokaud-Default04:24
tyrokTwo things I had trouble with: gedit's line numbers and tabs sections.04:24
ochosihum, never heard of it, link?04:25
tyrokNot really.  I think it comes with Audacious.  Not sure if you can download it separately or not.04:25
ochosik, maybe a screenshot with a gtk2 and gtk3 window?04:25
tyrokNot worth taking a look at the GTK3 theme yet - it's workable, but not good.04:27
ochosik04:27
tyrokI'll see if I can get you a GTK2 screenshot, though.04:27
tyrok#13 on here sorta shows it: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=4048704:29
tyrokAbout the only thing in there that looks like aud-default to me is the context menu.04:29
ochosi#13 is by jordanmthomas and doesn't show any screener...04:30
ochosioh strange04:30
ochosiin #15 (a reply-quote) the link is visible04:30
tyrokAh, it's actually called Divinorum.04:30
ochosibut it's tiny04:30
ochosiok, i'll google it, but i think i heard of it before04:30
tyrokThis, but with white text instead of blue: http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Environment/Themes/Divinorum-Blue-OriginalSeed-70081.shtml04:31
ochosithat's pretty much super-glossy :)04:31
Josh_Stevenson43is this network better than geekshed04:31
tyrokochosi: This is it: http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php/Divinorum?content=6553304:32
ochosityrok: yes, not sure you can do a matching theme without pixmaps, but who knows. gtk3 is lot more powerful04:32
tyrokWell, at least I know where to actually download it now!  I was just modifying the system theme and mashing it up with Greybird.04:33
ochosi:)04:33
ochosianyway, if you'd like to help out with bluebird or albatross feel free to ping me anytime04:34
tyrokK.  I'll keep that in mind.  Might have some time later this upcoming week.04:34
ochosiok nice04:34

TheSheepFusionX: but thunar never exits on its own21:53
FusionXTheSheep: how?21:53
TheSheepknome: nope, there are none, his client stripped them21:54
FusionXknome, yup21:54
knomeTheSheep, not in irc i suppose, but if you want/need to copy to text editor21:54
TheSheepFusionX: install xfce4-clipman-plugin and add it to your panel21:54
TheSheepFusionX: that's just a newline21:55
FusionXTheSheep, it didn't display in my irc client21:55
TheSheepit's CR LF21:55
TheSheepa newline21:55
TheSheepI suppose it's there for the case when you copy several urls21:55
TheSheepanyways, you can also add your custom command to thunar to the right-click menu, and have that command receive the path of the file or the url or whatever you want21:57
TheSheepin the sendto menu21:57
TheSheephttp://thunar.xfce.org/documentation/C/customizing-thunar.html21:57
TheSheepfor example, I have a command that copies files to my www server21:58
FusionXTheSheep: that will do! thanks :)21:58
FusionXone last query, how do I make a program start at startup?21:59
FusionXxfce4-clipman in this case22:00
TheSheepFusionX: settings->sessions and startup22:00
TheSheepthen 'autostarted applications'22:00
FusionXthanks again22:02

sp4zor any other applet which has a text representation of the bandwidth being used by a nic22:24
GridCubesp4z, never heard of that22:25
CiPisystem load monitor22:25
CiPiInstall this.22:25
mongysp4z: do you mean the netspeed applet than needs compiling?22:26
mongysp4z: http://code.google.com/p/xfce4-netspeed-plugin/downloads/list this one?22:27
sp4zyeah thats it22:27
CiPiInstall this, is much nicer. System Load Indicator :)22:27
sp4zok will check it out thanks22:27
mongysp4z: its just like the good old gnome2 version.  I had to install some libs to compile though. xfce4-dev-tools libxfce4util-dev libgtk2.0-dev libxfcegui4-dev libxfce4util-dev xfce4-panel-dev libgtop2-dev22:27
sp4zyeah thanks mongy, that is the one. i will get out CiPi's recommendation and if that is not what i am looking for i will compile that one cheers.22:29
mongysp4z: I tried a few, none do what I wanted22:29
sp4zCiPi, is that one a panel applet?22:29
sp4zyeah i really liked that old gnome 2 applet22:29
mongysp4z: then you'll need this one22:30
mongyits the same22:30
CiPiYes, is appearing after install right beside the clock in the right-up.22:30
sp4zcool. thank you.22:30
mongysp4z: just ./configure and make and make install22:30

CiPiCPU~Dual core Intel Atom CPU D525 (-HT-MCP-) clocked at 1799.938 Mhz Kernel~3.0.0-12-generic-pae i686 Up~13:19 Mem~1178.3/3001.0MB HDD~125.1GB(67.3% used) Procs~191 Client~X-Chat 2.8.8 inxi~1.7.2422:33
sp4zmongy; i have compiled it however it does not appear in my add new panel items list.22:37
mongysp4z: http://imgur.com/9L9WQ  this is it22:41
mongysp4z: sp4z you probably have to configure with /usr prefix22:42
sp4zoic22:42
mongysp4z: is it located in /usr/local?22:43
sp4zno nothing about netspeed in there22:43
mongysp4z: use /usr as your config prefix anyway.22:44
mongyI did.22:44
CiPisp4z, apt-get install indicator-multiload22:44
CiPiAs simple as this can`t be...22:44
mongyhttp://code.google.com/p/xfce4-netspeed-plugin/issues/detail?id=322:44
CiPiYou see the network traffic, and anything you want.22:45
CiPiHDDload, ram, etc.22:45
sp4zthanks that got it working. cheers CiPi i will check that out as I have a bunch of other system monitoring apps i could replace with that.22:46
CiPiFor now, this is the best indicator I have seen. Maybe in the future someone will make one much better, but for now this is just perfect. Lightweight and stable.22:48
sp4zCiPi same issue as the netspeed applet it is not displaying in my panel applet list. or is there something else to it?22:52
CiPiI don`t know, I never used netspeed.22:53
CiPiI have used gnome just a bit. I don`t like it. Too much things to crash in it.22:54
sp4zCiPi, sorry ignore that - it is not showing in the list though22:55
CiPi:)22:56
mongynetspeed is all I need22:56
sp4zyeah it is good22:57
