ruudtWhere can I find some hello world programs? I would like to write an app that accesses internet, reads xml files, downloads images and displays them. I'd prefer to use the framebuffer if that is possible to avoid to much overhead. The program needs to be as simple as possible08:40
ruudtNot yet decided on programming language, and still not sure how to actually build any program though (yes, quickly, but that won't fit my previous list of demands)08:41
ruudtJanC Pointed me to some websites for frambuffer and said I could probably use existing programs to do what I want. but I haven't found any resources that start from the level I am on now08:43
noodles775sheesh, that was fast.08:47

jmlwow. django is its own little world, isn't it11:04
noodles775jml: heh - what have you found now? :)11:05
jmlnoodles775: 'import django' raises an error unless an environment variable is set11:05
jmlA guy across the road from me just left his macbook on  window sill11:09
jmltilted down slightly toward the street three stories below11:09
noodles775?! Maybe he's streaming from the web-cam (and testing how many floors his wireless is good for)11:10
rickspencer3jml, so, are you saying with a couple friends, a blanket, and a tennis ball, you can have a free macbook?11:10
jmlrickspencer3: yep!11:10
jmlactually he's back now, I think I could get it if I just stood below, gave him a good fright and managed an easy catch11:11
jmlnoodles775: I'm guessing he's trying to get free wifi from somewhere11:11
noodles775jml: I'm not sure if this is the env var you're talking about: http://paste.ubuntu.com/745796/11:13
jmlnoodles775: yeah that one. Although I confess I was doing "from django import test"11:15
lukaszjml: afaik, as long as you're not touching db in django you don't need settings module (tests are pulling db setup stuff)11:16
jo-erlendrickspencer3 :)11:43
jmlOK. Now that the plumber has been and gone, I'm going to have a shower.11:54
jml\o/11:54
jo-erlendah, thank you. I didn't want to say anything. :)11:59
jmlOK. So here are my yaks: bug 893520, bug 893539 and bug 88796013:13
ubot2Launchpad bug 893520 in pkgme "DistributionNotFound error when running system-installed pkgme" [Critical,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/89352013:13
ubot2Launchpad bug 893539 in python-fixtures "Inconsistent names for built-in fixtures" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/89353913:13
ubot2Launchpad bug 887960 in pkgme-service "Run tests with testr" [Low,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/88796013:13
jmloh and 89356313:13
jmlbug 89356313:13
ubot2Launchpad bug 893563 in pkgme-service "No "nice" way to run tests" [High,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/89356313:13
noodles775jml: if you run virtualenv/bin/python, you should have access to import all the packages that have been installed in the virtualenv. I'm no virtualenv expert, but I think the description of bug 893563 is confused.13:30
ubot2Launchpad bug 893563 in pkgme-service "No "nice" way to run tests" [High,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/89356313:30
noodles775If you have time to mumble, I'd be keen to understand it - but it's really just for my own learning, so I understand if you just want to fix it.13:31
jmlnoodles775: ok, sure, let's mumble13:31
jmljames_w: https://code.launchpad.net/~jml/pkgme-service/actually-run-pkgme/+merge/83024 is at a good point for a review, I think14:08
* jml → food14:08
* james_w jumps on it14:09
noodles775jml, james_w: oh, I meant to ask you guys - do you think it would be beneficial to start reviewing different projects (I obviously do think so :-), just having other developers with different experience can lead to a lot of learning)14:14
james_wnoodles775, I do14:14
james_wnoodles775, do you want to review this branch?14:16
noodles775james_w: heh, no - not quite yet, but I just wanted to find out whether you guys were open to the idea.14:16
james_wI am and I expect jml will be14:16
jmlI am14:18
james_wreviewed14:23
=== johnoxton__ is now known as johnoxton
jmljames_w: thanks.14:50
jmljames_w: I'd move acceptance into the namespace, but I can't run pkgme-binary tests atm (because of the subunit/pkg_resources bug)14:50
james_wjml, so the problem is that python-subunit doesn't ship the egg-info dir in the package?14:58
jmljames_w: is it?14:58
james_wthat's what it looks like to me14:59
jmlHmm.15:01
jmlBottom.15:02
james_wjml, so subunit is just a test dependency15:03
jmljames_w: yeah, I guess so15:03
james_wso we could look at moving it in setup.py or something15:03
jmlright. have a test-requirements thing like many ISD projects do15:05
jmljames_w: call?15:32
james_wjml, yup15:32
james_won mumble if that suits you15:32
jmljames_w: http://pad.ubuntu.com/dTPkqhGow815:37
jo-erlendperhaps someone with access should delete the page about data storage from developer.ubuntu.com since that will no longer be available?15:37
james_wjml, still there?15:43
jmljames_w: hello?15:44
jmljames_w: my internet connection died :(15:44
jmljames_w: and now mumble greyscreens on connect15:45
james_wdamn15:45
noodles775james_w: Here's the info about the juju charm: http://micknelson.wordpress.com/2011/11/22/a-generic-juju-charm-for-django-apps/16:14
james_wnoodles775, excellent, thanks16:16
* james_w queues it up for reading16:16
james_wjo-erlend, you raise a good point, I'll pass it on to the relevant people16:19
james_wnoodles775, looks great, nice work17:04
james_wnoodles775, changing the paths in the branch broke a link or two in your post though17:05
noodles775james_w: they're working now I think?17:05
james_wwhere you point to loggerhead urls inside the branch, the paths are now wrong17:05
james_woh17:05
* noodles775 just went through them all.17:05
noodles775Let me know if that's not the case.17:05
james_wdidn't refresh, sorry17:05
noodles775np. So it's demo-able now, but a good list of things we'd need to do when we want to actually use it.17:07
noodles775Night all!17:07
james_wnight17:12
* jml → kickboxing17:13
dpmjo-erlend, thanks, and as James says, good point. Would you mind filing a bug on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntudeveloperportal/+filebug so that we can keep track of it and fix it as soon as we can?18:22
dpmapart from that, calling it a day now, so see you all tomorrow!18:23
james_woh, I filled it at https://bugs.launchpad.net/developer-portal, was that incorrect?18:25
