[06:44] Hi, i need help installing Ubuntu Studio from CD. I don't know how to select a partition i already made in my hard drive. I'm on the partition discs screen. [06:44] RgCz: its going to be like any of the alternate installers [06:45] you should just select one as / [06:45] you can also just clear out some space and let the installer use whats left [06:46] Ok, i want to select the 80 GB partition i have for /, but it tells me to choose the one with 633.8 GB [06:46] it? [06:47] just tell it what you want [06:47] you'll need to elaborate [06:47] i would think setting whatver you want to / would do it [06:47] Should i use the option "use entire disk" [06:48] I had ubuntu before, but the thing is i can't find the 80 gb partition i made in the installer [06:49] RgCz: you can also just get the normal ubuntu disc [06:49] install with a live GUI [06:49] and convert to studio [06:49] or just install what you want from studio [06:49] yeah i tried that but the installer froze in detecting file systems [06:50] if you want to use the entire disc, i would use 'use entire disk' [06:50] no reason not to [06:50] there might be a reason why its freezing though [06:50] well i want to use entire disk of the 80 gb partition i have in my main drive [06:51] yeah, i know. [06:51] I'm sorry if im being annoying is just that im a little bit tired lol [06:51] RgCz: nah... im tired to [06:51] you're no bother :) [06:51] Look, windows and ubuntu installer already detected the 80 gb partition [06:52] but apparently studio installer is not picking the partiton [06:52] 'use entire disc' will do that though [06:52] it will use the whole disc [06:52] not that partition [06:52] oh so i need to chose a different option then? [06:53] i would delete whatever partition you are going for [06:53] remake an ext4 partition with that installer [06:53] select is as / [06:53] and that should be all there is to it [06:53] But that would affect windows? [06:53] I want to be able to dual boot [06:54] thats why i made the 80 gb part, and thats how i installed ubuntu on my past laptop [06:54] RgCz: whatever partition you made [06:54] however you made it [06:54] the one that you are trying to install to right now [06:54] if thats 'the 80gb partition' in question [06:55] then yes [06:55] that should be new [06:55] blank [06:55] empty [06:55] so [06:55] you delete that [06:55] use the installer to create a new 80gb ext partition [06:55] select it as / [06:55] could be in an odd format [06:56] could be that its just not showing up? [06:56] who knows [06:56] well probably, it showed up in ubntu installer [06:56] but, if was part of some other partition, and you reclaimed the space, and made an emtpy partition [06:56] RgCz: ? [06:56] if it showed up [06:56] install to it [06:56] not in the studio one [06:56] and convert to studio from that [06:57] but it froze in the ubuntu one [06:57] right [06:57] thats why i decided to go with the cd from studio i have [06:57] which takes me back to the idea that something is up with that disk [06:57] i dont know if it has anything to do, but i tried to install it with unetbooting [06:58] trying from CD wont hurt [06:59] first i just created the partiton with windows, then after freezing with ubuntu i gave the disk a name and i dont remember in what format i saved it , i think it was ntfs [06:59] could that be it? [06:59] yeah i know, but i dont have anymore cds lol [06:59] RgCz: you made an ext partion in windows? [06:59] i dont know how windows works [06:59] its an unlocated hard disk partition insid [06:59] i can only suggest... if you have a partition there... remove it, and remake it with the ubuntu installer [07:00] oh ok [07:00] RgCz: im out for the evening... im wiped [07:00] can i retake that 80 gb to my normal drive? [07:00] just hold for one sec please [07:00] RgCz: ? [07:00] im almost done [07:00] not sure what you mean [07:00] you should back up your data [07:00] all of it [07:00] when you are doing things like this [07:01] those 80 gb that i partitioned can i locate them back to my 630 gb drive [07:01] i would be resizing and making partitions with gparted [07:01] yeah, gparted is better [07:01] RgCz: im not sure how you unallocated them [07:01] i mean... i can [07:01] gparted can [07:01] im not familiar with the tools you use in windows though, so i cant say [07:02] RgCz: you can always just let the installer disc do the resizing for you [07:02] ok, ill try that. Thanks a lot! [07:02] aparently my partition is marked as a logical unit [07:05] RgCz: i say, just be careful, and make sure you are backed up [07:05] and feel free to ask before you hit 'the button' [07:05] you can ask in #ubuntu-beginners if its dead in here [07:05] oh ok. Thanks a lot dude. [07:55] hello [07:56] some problems here with the config of system and sound cart [07:56] cans omebody helpo? === Lord_Kak1urion is now known as Lord_Kakturion [19:02] hi [20:03] o/
