[06:51] kenneho, I see how you could disable it for exact wireless network. You need just disable that checkbox it in network manager connections. [07:02] shevan: Thanks for replying. I can't seem to find a roaming checkbox in network manager.. Can you point me to where it's at? [07:05] Well, click on nm applet on the panel. The last entry of menu is something like 'Edit'. There you click on 'wireless' tab (or named smth like that) and edit connection in it. the checkbox is under the connection name [07:07] the last menu entry is 'edit connetctions', as google says [07:10] shevan: Thanks, I've found edit connections, and the wireless tab. But as far as I can see there is no roaming checkbox anywhere. [07:13] kenneho, well, i ment 'Connect automatically' checkbox. These were the icons I used basically in all previous versions of xfce. Installed the icons in /usr/share/icons and chose them in settings. However thunar only displays the desktop icon correctly, all the others are some grey fallback-icons. Nautilus however displays all icons correct, [19:46] YeahRight_: sticking my neck out, seems in the log with segfault problem occured when there was no framebuffer at the time when vesa driver tried loading [19:46] YeahRight_: did that happen after you 'killed' the Xserver? [19:48] YeahRight_: what happen if you do Xorg :1 -configure while :0 still runs? (ought to work) [20:05] why is xubuntu so awesome! [20:07] Xfce is. :) [20:12] what is the advantage of xfce over unity? [20:14] it doesn't require 3D, it's simple and has nice windowmanager setup [20:14] lots of options for customizing [20:15] we like it more [20:15] :P [20:18] granted, unity is awful, or at l east i can not get used to it. but why is xfce the window manager to go for? [20:19] Wolfsherz: what are you looking for in a desktop? [20:19] it's the 90s style you like and nicer configs than lxde [20:20] beardygnome: i really wish they sticked with gnome2 [20:20] but with unity i need an alternative now [20:20] Wolfsherz: xfce is quite similar to gnome2 [20:20] I installed xubuntu a few days ago and it was the first time a default install desktop didn't annoy the shit out of me.. all I had to do was turn off window shadows [20:20] both have the panel layouts [20:21] both are gtk based [20:21] on a screenshot i saw a macintosh-like bottom-bar, how can that be enabled? [20:21] oh yeah that mac style panel was the other thing I disabled [20:21] its not enabled by default, isnt it? [20:21] it is [20:22] Wolfsherz: the bottom panel is there by default [20:22] uh, it doesnt show up on my laptop [20:22] just move your mouse to the bottom of the screen [20:22] it autohides [20:23] nope, does not show up [20:23] do you have the top panel? [20:23] yes [20:23] do you have a bottom panel at all? [20:24] no, there is just blank space [20:24] add panel and add launchers to that, expanding separators to both sides or not full-width panel [20:24] set alpha to be like 30% [20:24] go to settings -> settings manager -> panel [20:25] laptop is restarting [20:25] intentionally? [20:26] hm just popped to my mind, when hearing the unity/xfce discussion,... overall i like xfce more, it just feels more responsive. i recently added indicator-appmenu to my xfce panel since i have a small screnn and dont want to waste the menu bar pixels ;). is there anything like in unity that removes the titlebar from maximized windows and pust the clso/minimize buttons in the panel? [20:26] yeah, maybe it will be back then =) [20:26] i'm new here.. i just want to start by saying that xubuntu is pretty nice.. i used it over the weekend and used it as a live cd to recover data from over 30 computers.. i didn't have 1 problem with it at all [20:30] YeahRight_: did you reinstall vmware-tools after upgrade? [20:35] another question, can i change the login screen to something that resembles ubuntu? [20:36] ok the bottom bar is there, now when i touch the bottom with the mouse the bar shows up [20:40] both of them use lightdm for the login screen, so you should be able to get hold of the ubuntu lightdm theme [20:41] i'm not sure where from, but you could try asking in an ubuntu channel [20:42] thanks beardygnome [20:43] can someone tell me the standard clock options format line? [20:44] mine is HH:MM [20:44] i think that's the standard [20:45] Wolfsherz, %a %d %b %R ? [20:45] %a, %d %b %H:%M ? [20:46] exactly GridCube ,thank you! [20:46] %a %b %c %e %e %sound_of_music [20:55] is there a command to bring up the 'are you sure you want to reboot' dialog? I would like to bind it to ctrl-alt-del [20:56] projekt26: there is xfce4-session [20:56] xfce4-session-logout [20:56] thank you [20:57] it's not exactly a confirmation though [20:58] but you could display your own confirmation and use that to logout if it is confirmed [20:59] I kind of like it this way :) [20:59] cool [21:38] Good evening. I was wandering if somebody would be willing to help me solve a small Xubuntu problem, please. [21:39] I have a fresh xubuntu 11.10 installation, and Firefox hangs on startup about half of the times I launch it. [21:42] Looking at the task manager, I see that there are actually two firefox processes in memory when I launch it [21:43] And if I kill one of them, firefox un-hangs [21:44] Does anyone have any clue as to why this may be happening? [21:47] do you have a lot of addons installed in firefox? [21:49] No, it's a fresh install. [21:49] This happens even if I launch from the terminal [21:50] even on first launch? [21:51] otherwise you might find some info here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs#Hang_at_exit and here http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_in_use [21:54] Yes, even on first launch. [21:54] <_superVillain> terminator is magical i tell you, just thought i would put my 2 cents in :) [21:55] I have no firefox processes, then I launch it, and suddenly there are two of them. [21:55] Weird. [21:55] Well, I'll post on the forums for help. [21:55] Thanks anyway. :) [21:56] yea sorry I have no idea what could cause this [23:14] I need help. === `mOOse` is now known as m00se
