mamece2hello i have a screen problem, lubuntu booting screen is fine but when i get to the desktop is all messed. vertical lines, i am now in a tty session, what can i do to fix this?04:17
holsteinmamece2: i would try at boot time, after the language question... hit F6 (i believe it is) and try 'nomodeset'04:18
mamece2holstein: i already installed lubuntu in the HD04:19
mamece2holstein: i tried it in another pc, it looks fine, but when i install the HD in an older PC, the video gets messed04:20
holsteinmamece2: you can try ^^ from the live CD you used to install... you can add a custom xorg.conf file...04:21
mamece2how can i custom it?04:21
holsteinmamece2: with any text editor really04:22
holsteinsometimes, i boot live CD's til something works, and then i look for an xorg.conf, and copy (steal) it04:22
holsteinusually knoppix is that live CD04:22
mamece2ill try it04:23
Unit193https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance and stopping X, and running sudo x --configure gave a handy file04:23
holsteintrue.. i got one from there that worked well for me too ^^04:24
mamece2some advanced stuff there bros04:28
calamarihi06:41
calamariwell I was about to ask a question but answered it myself, yay :) Turns out there is still a way to increase the max task width past the default, just not via the GUI anymore. Edit  ~/.config/lxpanel/Lubuntu/panels/panel and change MaxTaskWidth=150 .. then kill/restart the panel06:49

calamarioh, not sure, let me unplug my ac power06:50

calamariI guess I haven't gotten used to having a laptop yet, I always shut down lol06:51
calamariit only takes a few seconds to boot into lubuntu anyways06:51
calamariwell I'll try suspend.. bbiam (hopefully)06:54
calamariwell that didn't work.. couldn't figure out how to resume06:58

head_victimI think that'14:33

xsaidxhead_victim: you use git ?14:33
head_victimxsaidx: not really, I am your typical end user not really a dev14:34

Mr_EE1hello17:00
Mr_EE1help me out with the tv card how to make it work on ubuntu11.1017:00
ikoniaMr_EE1: I told you what to do17:03
ikoniaMr_EE1: are you using lubuntu or ubuntu ?17:03
Mr_EE1ikonia:  lubuntu17:04
ikoniaok, it may help you in future to be clear, as you keep saying you're using ubuntu rather than lubuntu17:04
ikoniaalso, the instructions I gave you in ubuntu of checking the hardware compatability list for your device is still the first thing you need to do17:05
Mr_EE1ikonia: ok17:05
Mr_EE1ikonia: what you sended me?17:06
ikoniaI've not sent you anything17:06
Mr_EE1so will you help me?17:07
ikoniaI've told you what to do 3 times17:07
ikoniaI've given you links and advice17:07
ikoniayou need to start the process of checking if your card is supported under linux17:07
ikoniait is pointless to try to configure it if it's not17:07
ikoniaso instead of wasting time, check the basics is your card supported under linux......lets check and find out17:08
Mr_EE1i was using fedora and it was supported in fedora17:08
ikoniawhat did you use in fedora ?17:08
Mr_EE1tv card17:09
Mr_EE1fedora1317:09
ikoniano, what software did you use in fedora to use it17:09
Mr_EE1xawtv17:09
ikoniathat should also be available in ubuntu, as are others such as tvtime17:09
Mr_EE1ok i will check them17:10
ikoniainstall that software and configure it (as you did in fedora) and you should be fine17:10
mark76It's in debian so it'll be in Ubuntu17:10
ikoniaMr_EE1: next time if I spent 40 minutes trying to confirm if your card is supported, it maybe worth while telling me "it worked in Fedora 13"17:10
Mr_EE1ok thanks bro17:11
ikoniaMr_EE1: and if someone is helping you in 1 channel, joining another and asking the same question as if that help had not been given isn't the best approach17:11
Mr_EE1what is the best approach?17:12
ikoniaMr_EE1: giving as much information as possible17:13
ikoniaeg: 1.) tell people you're using lubuntu instead of ubuntu17:13
ikonia2.) if someone is asking you if the card is supported in linux and trying to explain to you how to check, tell them it works in fedora17:13
ikonia3.) if someone has spent 40 minutes trying to help you, don't ignore their advice, join another channel and repeat the same question as if someone had not given you a lot of information17:13
Mr_EE1ok i see thanks man17:13
Mr_EE1i will learn alot17:14

bindi__hey18:47
bindi__my friend has an old laptop with p3 566, 256 ram and 10 GB hdd18:47
bindi__whenever he logs in, it checks for updates and then crashes18:47
bindi__told him to do ctrl+alt+f1 and do sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade18:48
bindi__on upgrade, it did it's job for a little while and then it shut down18:48
bioterrorif computer shuts down by itself, probably over heating18:53
bindi__*always* on the update part though18:55
bindi__i suggested that, we'll see18:55
