sagacierr, doesn't look like there's a default11:20
=== Guest5602 is now known as ryanakca
icerootbut i dont see a reason to have ver6 and ver7 in the repos12:33
BluesKajHey all12:52
geserlooks like openjdk-6 is still the "default" as it's in main while openjdk-7 is only in universe (at least at the moment)13:10

FernandoMiguelgood afternoon14:00
icerootgeser: ah yes you are right, i was not looking at the repos, so the dependencies from eclipse are correctly set14:22
Ian_Cornewhat version of eclipse is in the repo now, and is it usable with plugins yet?14:24
Ian_CorneI've abandoned hope on eclipse from the repo a while ago14:24

Ian_CorneI'm thinkging it defaults to precies?14:25
Ian_Corneoh it doesn't14:25
Ian_Cornebut does it work with plugins yet?14:25
Ian_CorneIt didn't used to because of version naming or something14:25
icerootIan_Corne: i dont know, i am using netbeans now, because eclipse wants to pull openjdk6 and i only have 200mb free14:26
Ian_CorneYou're deving on java7 already14:26
Ian_Cornenice14:26
Ian_CorneI don't think i'll see java 7 in the near future where I'm working :)14:27

icerootjust some xml-foo with java/dom and i hope there is no difference in jdk6/7 and no difference to the evil sun/oracle-jdk14:27
atdiehmam I better off with the daily, or sticking with alpha 1 ....14:29
atdiehmI need to see if the 3.2 kernel is going to fix some stuff on my new lappy14:29

gnomefreakim guessing libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio is no longer needed15:01
gnomefreaksmoke15:03
gnomefreakdamn15:03
atdiehmJust tried alpha 1 on my new zenbook, the screen turned on and showed a keyboard next to a person... then a blinking cursor for 10 sec or so... then the screen shut off15:26
atdiehmI heard the "bla doop" sound that plays when the login screen is presented, so I know it kept booting.. just didn't display15:26
atdiehmpulling down the daily now to try that15:26
alex_mayorgaatdiehm: ctrl+alt+f215:57
atdiehmsame happens with the daily... booting off USB, it shows the keyboard next to the person at the bottom ... then a blinking cursor top left .... and then the screen goes off15:57
atdiehmctrl-alt-f2 does nothing15:57
alex_mayorgaIIRC that gets me to a text based console15:57
atdiehmit might have, but the screen is still off15:57
atdiehmit's not just black... it's off15:58
alex_mayorgaperhaps try plugging an external monitor?15:58
atdiehmit's a new ultrabook, and I don't have a micro-hdmi converter on me15:58
alex_mayorgaatdiehm: got a URL for the specs?16:00
atdiehmone sec16:01
atdiehmhttp://zenbook.asus.com/product/?c=spec16:03
atdiehmit's the 13" i516:03
FernandoMiguelyou got one of those? cool16:04
atdiehmit's pretty nice, but it's too new for ubuntu16:06
atdiehmso much isn't supported16:06
FernandoMiguelI consider buying one, but too much € for me16:06
FernandoMiguelgot a 13" dell vostro16:06
FernandoMiguelatdiehm: afaik you might need some kernel parm to work around that GPU16:06
FernandoMigueleither nag bjsnider or jump on #ubuntu-x and ask sarvat16:06
FernandoMiguelmost of it is sandy bridge16:06
bjsniderit looks like it's sandybridge16:06
FernandoMiguelbut that should work with kernel 3.0.216:07
alex_mayorgabluetooth 4.0? =O16:07
FernandoMiguelyeah, I've been saying for years: Ubuntu (and most "Desktop distros") are meant for hw between 6 months old and 3-5 years16:07
FernandoMiguelalex yep. iphone has it too16:08
bjsniderintel puts code int he kernel for unreleased hardware all the time16:08
alex_mayorgais that a software thing or does the radios actually changed?16:08
bjsnideratdiehm, go to #ubuntu-x and talk to sarvatt16:08
bjsniderhe's our snb expert16:09
atdiehmsnb?16:10
atdiehmI just want ot keep this laptop :-p16:10
bjsnidersandybridge16:10
atdiehmoneiric works on it....16:13
atdiehmther are just features that aren't working16:13
atdiehmand I was told in some forums that it seems the 3.2 kernel is fixing some of those features16:13
atdiehmso I wanted to try out the alpha since it had that kernel16:13
atdiehmbecause I'm probably going to return the laptop today if I can't assure myself I'll have good use of it in a few months16:14
atdiehmlike... right now... I have no option to disable the touchpad while I type.... which is a deathblow16:14
atdiehmand the battery life is like 2.5hrs when it's 8 in windows16:14
alex_mayorgaatdiehm: I'd say follow bjsnider advise, he's got my video working reliably in the past ;-)16:14
atdiehmbecause the screen won't stay at anything but 100% brightness16:14
atdiehmalex_mayorga, his advise it to speak with sarvatt, and I'm waiting ot hear back from him :)16:15
alex_mayorgaatdiehm: never mind then :)16:15
FernandoMiguelatdiehm: you can use a more recent kernel oon 11.1016:20
atdiehmFernandoMiguel, how then? link?16:20
atdiehmbecause the ubuntu wiki says to use kernel 3.216:20
atdiehmhttps://help.ubuntu.com/community/AsusZenbook16:21
atdiehmon there16:21
FernandoMiguelatdiehm: my dell is 9h on win and was <3h on ubuntu . with a few tweaks its now >5h16:21
atdiehmand I asked in the channel yesterday, and was told to install the alpha16:21
atdiehmI could stomach 5ish16:21
FernandoMiguelhttp://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/16:21
atdiehmFernandoMiguel, I don't know if I've got the stones to do a manual kernel update....16:22
FernandoMigueleheh16:22
FernandoMiguelit *should* be safe16:22
FernandoMiguelyou always keep the older one16:22
FernandoMiguelBUT the tweaks aren't all in the kernel16:23
atdiehmI'm a fedora guy, so I know very little of the deb packages and tools they use16:23
FernandoMiguelcool... that asus wiki tells me how to fix usb3 :D16:23
FernandoMiguelmaybe now I can gete suspend to work too16:23
FernandoMiguelatdiehm: download the daily kernel for your arch and the -all deb16:24
FernandoMiguelput all 3 on an empty folder16:24
FernandoMiguelsudo dpkg -i *.deb16:24
FernandoMiguelreboot16:24
atdiehmk16:24
atdiehmFernandoMiguel, you said all 3 ... but there are only 2 files?16:27

atdiehmFernandoMiguel, it epic-fails just like the alpha 12.416:38
FernandoMiguelhow?16:39
atdiehmscreen just turns off16:40
atdiehmgonna try the 3.116:40
atdiehmhow do I un-install 3.2?16:40
alex_mayorgaatdiehm: can you ssh to it?16:40
atdiehmalex_mayorga, probably......16:40
atdiehmwould that be helpful?16:40
atdiehmif networking has been enabled, I don't see why I wouldnt' be able to shell in...16:41
alex_mayorgaatdiehm: would at least allow you to see dmesg and such16:41
alex_mayorgajust throwing random ideas from the days where my nvidia was borked :-)16:42
FernandoMiguelatdiehm: ah so it's not the install that fails, just the booting16:42
alex_mayorgaperhaps you can also do ubuntu-bug from ssh and at least get the bug reported16:43
FernandoMiguelnaaa16:44
FernandoMiguelnot really supported16:44
atdiehmthe alpha actually fully boots16:45
atdiehmit even makes the login screen noise16:45
atdiehmthe screen is just not on16:45
atdiehmhow many kernels does it keep.......16:46
atdiehmI'm installing 3.1 now... I don't want to be ass raped with no bootable install ....16:46
atdiehm:)16:46
atdiehmthe 3.1 kernel turns a screen on at least :-p16:48
FernandoMiguelyou keel them all16:54
FernandoMiguelit doesn't get replaced16:54
FernandoMigueleither use aptitude or synaptic to remove the ones you want to remove16:55

atdiehmso, I got 3.2 to boot18:09
atdiehmthe touchpad is super choppy, but I've got 5+hrs of battery life, and the multi-touch works...18:10
atdiehmbut it's really choppy18:10
atdiehmit goes off and on.... and ignores about 1 out of 4 swipes, or jumps around18:10
FernandoMiguelatdiehm: coooolll18:20
FernandoMiguelatdiehm: $ acpi -V | grep Bat18:20
FernandoMiguelBattery 0: Discharging, 98%, 04:41:47 remaining18:21
atdiehmI don't know if it's usable .... the touchpad was perfect with 3.0 kernel.... it just wasn't recognized, so the disable when typing wasn't an option, and multitouch didn't work18:22
atdiehmnow multitouch and disable when typing works, but it sucks to use :-p18:23
nhainesThe march of progres!  \o/18:23
atdiehmgotta combine the two and it'll be full of win18:25
alex_mayorgaatdiehm: lspci | grep vga19:19
atdiehmif I install 12.04 alpha ... will I get upgraded automatically as it goes?19:20
atdiehmalex_mayorga, that command gives nothing, but what was it for?19:20
alex_mayorgaatdiehm: perhaps I messed it up but it should tell something about the video card on the system19:22
atdiehmthere's a kernel issue keeping it from booting properly19:23
atdiehmI got around that19:23
atdiehmI can boot into the 12.04 daily right now19:23
atdiehmand my touchpad and battery are much better19:24
nhainesatdiehm: yes, you'll just be upgraded automatically as it goes, but you might still want to reinstall at or around beta 2 or final relesae.19:24
atdiehmwell.. the touchpad is recognized, and the multitouch works..... but it's much more flakey than with the 3.0 kernel19:24
nhainesThis has nothing to do with kernel drivers but only about shifting packages.  :)19:29
nhaines("This" being the potential desire to reinstall near the release date.)19:30
sskalnikIs the "admin" group deprecated in favor of the "sudo" group in Precise?19:41

FernandoMiguelPici: just trying to guide sskalnik.... I read something you said about admin group a few weeks back19:53

PiciMaybe you're thinking of Pitti?19:55

atdiehm_lappywell I upgraded to kernel 3.2 because I was instructed in forums to upgrade to 3.2 to get support for my touchpad, however, now the right click button won't register, and the left click doesn't work with dragging ... and I don't know where to go to try and debug this23:30
atdiehm_lappyI'm running 11.10, but with the 3.2 kernel23:30
atdiehm_lappybut the same issues are in 12.04, and I could boot into that if it helped23:30
atdiehm_lappysince it was the same situation, I've stayed win 11.10 with the updated kernel23:31
