CaptainKnotsis it common for 12.04 to still say 11.10 all over the place?02:34
=== rcmaehl is now known as why
FernandoMiguelCaptainKnots: UI wise, yes02:38
CaptainKnotsSysinfo for 'MiNiTUX': Linux 3.2.0-3-generic running , CPU: Intel(R)AtomCPUN455@1.66GHz at 1000 MHz (3324 bogomips), HD: 7/231GB, RAM: 896/983MB, 148 proc's, 22.57min up02:50
CaptainKnotshmm, doesn't say there02:50
bazhang!final02:59
ubottuIf you install a development version of Ubuntu Precise and keep up with package updates, then you will be upgraded to the official release of 12.04 when it comes out. To make sure, type « sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade » in a terminal.02:59
|Anthony|well that there answered my question and i didn't even have to ask03:00
|Anthony|love that03:00
|Anthony|will updates in the alpha and beta releases be prompted through update manager, or does it have to be done manually?03:02
CaptainKnotshaha03:02
|Anthony|as in ubottu's !final response03:03
|Anthony|well, i just burned a usb of 12.04... lets see if it will boot03:06
|Anthony|11.10 wont load on this machine03:06
|Anthony|:/03:06
CaptainKnotsI just installed 11.10 on my netbook and then right away updated it to 12.0403:06
CaptainKnotsunity actually is pretty cool...I've heard a lot of bad things about it but I like it03:07
|Anthony|welp... seems as though this box can run 10.04 64-bit but not 11.10 or 12.0403:18
|Anthony|wonder why that is...03:18
|Anthony|it wont even complete the bootup03:18
|Anthony|goes into the ubuntu loading screen (ubuntu logo with the loading dots), finishes that and nothing03:19
|Anthony|i know the usb's i burned are good, they boot up on another box here03:19
urlin2u|Anthony|, have you tried a nomodeset option by tapping shift as you power on and then f6 to get to that choice?03:30
|Anthony|no i have not03:32
|Anthony|at which point should i try this shit tapping?03:32
|Anthony|shify*03:32
urlin2u|Anthony|, sounds like a nividia graphic card or something03:32
|Anthony|yes nvidia03:32
urlin2u|Anthony|, I think unetbootin loads wont get you the correct early gui for the f6 option though, not sure how you loaded the usb.03:33
|Anthony|startupdiskcreator03:34
urlin2u|Anthony|, cool just tap the shift you will see a gui that has try install check memory...etc hit f6 and tick nomodeset and boot in.03:35
urlin2u|Anthony|, the shift at powering on.03:35
|Anthony|after the bios finishes its thing, tap shift?03:35
urlin2u|Anthony|, the shift wont interfere with the bios, if your getting straight to the usb boot just tap asap.03:36
|Anthony|gotcha... thanks03:37
|Anthony|i'll give it a go03:37
urlin2u|Anthony|, no problem hope that gets you in.03:37

LjLi have a broken btrfs partition on my drive (won't mount, kernel panic), and the Precise installer gets stuck on it. is there any way to stop it from trying to mount anything?14:11
penguin42do you want to nuke that partition or just stop it mounting it while you try and do an install?14:15
LjLpenguin42: i'd prefer to keep that partition, in the hope i can recover it sooner or later14:20
penguin42LjL: You could try changing the type of the partition in fdisk to something very unlinuxy and hope it ignores it15:18
kbroulik12.04 alpha1 is not available for kubuntu?17:41
penguin42kbroulik: I've not looked for an install image, but my Kubuntu box happily upgraded17:42

htorqueyeah, once i got the log17:54

htorquethanks - hard to believe that's the only report about it.17:55
penguin42yeh, if you find another one dupe it17:56
penguin42htorque: It's quite possible the problem isn't actually network-manager, but ubuiquity or gksu17:57

bjsniderwow, hard drive prices are high19:01
Ian_Corneflooding :(19:03
penguin42apparently they've got the factories going again, so I guess they might come down a little - but they're not going to do quickly - not now they've had an opportunity to put them up19:03
bjsnideryes i know why, i'm just amazed at the level of the increase, i mean prices have tripled19:04
penguin42it's because they got scarce enough that people couldn't sell products with them in19:04
bjsniderthailand doesn't strike me as a good place to have a hard drive factory19:06
bjsniderit's constantly being flooded19:06
FernandoMiguelbjsnider: I'm selling my old used drives :D at a price higher than I bought newer bigger ones19:18
bjsniderthat's the next step is a big market for used drives19:32
penguin42bjsnider: There already is19:34
penguin42bjsnider: There is a 'manufacturer' called MDT - as I understand it all there stuff is 'recertified'19:37
NightDogHey, when I try to install the ubuntu Precise daily iso, Ubiquity takes forever to continue from the "Prepare to install Ubuntu" screen when I click continue. dmesg only gives me a couple of lines about XFS Quota Managemen. Any other place to look for information on why it is taking so long?20:54
