[00:58] Let's get a washer repair conversation going, I need to fix one, now. [01:09] * waltman defers to JonathanD for all things repair-related [01:14] InHisName: really? [03:28] * InHisName finished enjoying a nice nap [03:48] I did a 'show and tell' with washer. Spin sounds like growling sound and seems to lighten quieter when basket comes to near full speed. Sorta metalic sound. Gearbox maybe? Never took one apart, can they be lubed, bad gear replaced etc ? [11:04] Morning [11:12] Morning. [11:12] 43 [11:15] 44 [11:15] Yes. [11:20] No [13:36] morning [13:36] why are you guys always up so early? [13:36] i dont get to the office til at least 8:15 (we work 8:30 to 4:30 here) === morechee1e is now known as morecheese [14:24] morning [14:25] clear gave me trouble this morning [15:18] good morning all, including rmg51, teddy-dbear, morecheese, JonathanD and whoever is next. [15:18] Hi. [15:23] JonathanD, care to help with advising washer repair ? [15:24] whats wrong with it? [15:24] oh, I see. [15:25] InHisName: you might want to ask jackson, when he's on. [15:25] InHisName: they are very easy to open up though if you want to start with that and look for obvious brokenness. [15:25] He left shortly before I found washer broke. [15:27] The spin cycles makes growling sounds. When it gets up to speed it gets much quieter. It might be the gear box, but don't know if they are rebuildable or not. [15:28] InHisName: I didn't dig in that far [15:28] Spray some wd40 into it :) [15:28] InHisName: it would be good to determine if it was the motor or gearbox, though. [15:29] Motor seems fine in other modes. Not running slower etc. Just MORE noisy during spin. [15:30] The WD40 or lubing makes sense to try in vacuum of knowledge so far. [15:30] If I can find a hole to stuff some into. [15:30] make one! [15:30] or just spray the heck out of it anyway :;p [15:31] Just gotta start and try somethin' [17:05] Konqueror is serious the best file manager ever. [17:06] not a KDE fan [17:06] http://bash.org/?85514 [17:06] kde3.5 [17:06] hehe [17:06] bash.org is very funny [18:13] Seems to be a bearing going bad. Most obvious in spin cycle. JonathanD [18:14] yum. [18:14] in the trans? [18:14] and one repair place I called mentioned that even simple bearing change in main spindle column takes all day in labor. So is likely to be a don't fix it job. [18:15] :/ [18:15] Some companies put the bearings inside the transmission. $3-400 part. Same diff. [18:15] :'( [18:16] Found an article on replacing them. [18:16] says it takes about 8 hours if you've not done it before. [18:16] so yeah. [18:17] InHisName: craiglist or freecycle. Find yourself a free one ;) [18:17] So I guess we'll keep using it till it dies and shop like crazy for good price with scratch & dent sale somewhere. [18:17] Nice Idea. [18:17] Washers and driers are on there a lot. [18:17] People like to replace both when one dies, sometimes. [18:18] To have them match. [18:18] Silly people with silly credit cards, mostly. [18:18] Great point !! [18:19] If I had the space I'd grab a second dryer when I find one for free. [18:20] Dryers take too long. [18:20] could get a lot more done if I had 2. [18:26] My wife doesn't like the fuel costs, so hangs outdoors even in winter some times. Even then she still uses dryer 1/2 the time. [18:35] never buy a used washer/dyer [18:35] my family went through like 4 in the last 6 year [18:35] because wee keep buying 50 dollar ones on craigslist. [18:35] just put out the damn money for a decent one. [18:35] :-) [18:41] silly clear :-/ === Jackson is now known as Guest860 [20:15] So Jackson changed his name and now seems to be missing. [20:15] Jackson? [20:16] Three freecycle things I am in all had 1 -2 tween July & Oct but not much after that. [20:17] Craigslist has bunches. Unfortunately most are new at dealers. 3/4 .. [20:17] Well I still can use this one till the bearings freeze up. I have shopping time. === EvilResistance is now known as TheEvilPhoenix === TheEvilPhoenix is now known as EvilResistance
