xubuntu119Installing XUbuntu!04:55
coolstar-pcDoes Compiz work under Xubuntu?05:44
coolstar-pcI got my answer from #xfce. :)05:47
coolstar-pcFor some reason Firefox on xubuntu doesn't play html5 video. Any Ideas?06:18
lufeiI use xubuntu 11.10, i have a problem, how to brow the bluetooth device? the default command to start an obex browser is nautilus --browser obex://[%d], but when i install the nautilus, the nautilus have no --browser param, I cannot browser the device file.08:02
xi4iapache wich i run on my xubuntu machine is not visible from another machine on the same network. how can i fix that?08:29
Kurdistanhi guys I read on ubuntuforums that xubuntu 12.04 will be support 3 years and not 5 years like regulare ubuntu is this true?11:50
MyrttiKurdistan: 1204 will be the first ever Xubuntu LTS anyway11:57
KurdistanMyrtti, I understand, but still is it for 3 years or 5?11:57
SysiKurdistan: xfce upstream would make it really hard to have 5 year support, three is hard but possible because debian has extended support12:13
KurdistanSysi, okey. only wanted to know if that is true or not.12:14
Kurdistan:) nothing about if its good or bad12:14
Sysiit sure is true, there should be log available from meeting where it was decided12:15
KurdistanSysi, okey thx for the info. maybe it would be good if xubuntu can write that in the release notes for 12.0412:16
Kurdistanso everyone knowns the difference12:16
Sysiit probably will be there, but it's still several months to final release12:17
KurdistanSysi, thats true.12:17
Kurdistanare you tryi g12:17
Kurdistanxubuntu 12.04?12:17
Kurdistanany major difference yet?12:18
Sysino new xfce release yet, and not anything *really* big after that either12:19
oobilozhappy holidays everyone12:19
Sysihappy newton's birthday (#xubuntu-offtopic)12:20
knomeSysi, ot12:21
knomeerr12:21
knomeSysi, it's not decided yet, but that's the most possible outcome.12:21
Sysioh, I've misunderstood something12:21
Sysibut yeah, anyway not 5 years12:22
Kurdistanthx guys. need to log out. xubuntu 11.10 is a great release with 4.8. before 4.8 I really did not like xfce.12:22
Kurdistannow it feels gnome 2-ish :)12:22
lightahi guys, having quite an uninstallation issue here. I have netbeans 7 installed directly from the site, and had an older netbeans 6 from repo, now when I'm trying to uninstall via apt-get he telling me there no packtage but I can see it still here16:19
holsteinlighta: if you dont use the package manager to install, it wont offer to uninstall16:23
holsteinthats the drag about *not* using pacakges from the repos16:23
holsteinyou should check out the documentation with the downloaded application and see how you are to remove it16:24
lightahmm ok holstein, ah ye maybe they put something in the makefile16:24
lightathanks16:24
holsteinlighta: theres a make command i used that someone turned me on to, but i totally forget it16:25
lightamaybe dpkg ?16:25
holsteinit makes the package manager "aware" of the install so you can apt-get autoremove it or whatever16:25
holsteinlighta: nah... its a make or make install alternative16:26
lightahmm ok tell me if you remenber16:26
lightathat would be much apreciate16:26
holsteinwell, for next time ;)16:26
lightaI'll try to found installation file !16:26
holsteinsomeone in #ubuntubeginners told me about it, and that install is long gone16:27
holsteini was told it doesnt work every time16:27
lightawich install ?16:27
holsteinor, it cant work every time, rather16:27
holsteinlighta: the alternate build step im speaking about that i cant remember what its called16:28
lightaactually netbeans working quite fine but launching could be annoying, turn off at launch 3 or 4 time before getting stable ><16:28
lightaah ok16:28
lightaI don't get, what the ppa link here ? https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netbeans16:29
holsteinppa's are handy16:30
holsteinthats another way to add 'package manager aware' applications that dont come in the default repos16:30
lightawell since netbeans seem unsuported in repo now, I can't do otherwise16:30
holsteinlighta: you have the version of netbeans that was out at the release of your version of ubuntu16:31
holsteinyou can get the current one backported16:31
lighta"Package netbeans is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source"16:31
holsteini would be readine https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Netbeans16:32
holsteinjava is gone now btw16:32
holsteinyou need to get the open JDK16:32
holsteinfrom what i read, there will be a java update that just purges java from buntu16:33
lightaI think all that ok16:33
holsteinlighta: you think what? java?16:33
holsteinits getting pulled16:33
lightawell java on ubuntu was,t installed fine anyway, I mean not as good as from site16:33
lightaa index issue something like that16:34
holsteinsure, but you are pretty far away from ubuntu right now, support wise16:34
lightasad =(16:35
lightaand about other version holstein , project wont work16:35
lightawell I should export them at least16:35
holsteinim not sure what you *should* do... i would suggest thinking about reducing variables16:36
lightahmm probably exporting project would be more stable, damn that annoying16:37
holsteinlighta: or, you could elaborate about what 'project' is, and exactly what you are trying to do, and on what version of ubuntu, and what all else you have customized16:38
lightaok holstein I purge it, I'll look if it more stable now. (there was 6.9 remaning conf file)16:53
holsteinyup, it'll leave whatever the pacakge maintainer decides to leave16:54
holsteini would look for a PPA16:54
johny_I have a problem with extremely slow wifi connection in xubuntu can you help me ?16:58
holsteinjohny_: you can try another driver.. its really easy to try the windows drivers with ndisgtk now-a-days16:59
johny_I just wonder if it is not some kind of already known issue...17:00
holsteinjohny_: probably... you can run lspci and get the line about the graphics card and search for a bug17:01
holsteintypically, if its something that can be supported, it is17:01
johny_Why graphics card?17:02
holsteinjohny_: network card17:03
holsteinthat was an error... gotta run!... good luck17:03
johny_thx17:03

mongypimperle, anything in screensaver settings ?23:57

pimperlehttp://askubuntu.com/questions/65969/display-brightness-goes-two-shades-darker-if-i-am-idle-for-10-11-seconds23:58
