Alison_ChaikenGreetings all.    I uploaded tarballs for a package I created to oneiric on launchpad.01:09
Alison_ChaikenThey didn't build, so newb that I am, I deleted all the files that I created and started over.01:09
Alison_ChaikenNow when I try to upload a new version, I get the message "foo-1.0.debian.tar.gz already exists but uploaded version has different contents."01:10
Alison_ChaikenSo I went to launchpad and deleted package foo from the PPA and tried again.01:11
Alison_ChaikenUnfortunately I get the same error message and am not sure what to do.01:11
Alison_ChaikenMaybe I can just manually bump the version number of my package and all will be well?01:12
Alison_ChaikenI guess that those tarballs, once created, should never be touched by the user?01:13
micahgAlison_Chaiken: you cannot upload the same revision twice, you'll want to bump the Debian revision of the package for subsequent uploads of the same original tarball01:18
Alison_ChaikenI can just find one of the debian/* files that has a counter in it and increment it?   Or just "touch" one of the package files to generate a new revision?01:19
micahgAlison_Chaiken: it comes from debian/changelog01:19
Alison_ChaikenVery good, then,    I will edit that file and bump the revision.    I take it that in fact, I should never delete those tarballs in the parent directory once they're created, as this kind of problem always results?01:20
micahgthe "upstream" tarballs, should really be upstream releases if possible, so they're only generated once01:22
micahgif there is no upstream release, you probably want a native package (i.e. debian/source/format contains 3.0 (native))01:22
Alison_ChaikenVery good, micahg, I appreciate your help!01:22
Alison_ChaikenYes, I think I have a native package format.    Should that format suppress this problem?01:23
micahgAlison_Chaiken: here's package versioning explained in the Debian policy manual: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-controlfields.html#s-f-Version01:24
Alison_ChaikenThanks again, micahg, I'll go RTFM.01:24

Resistanceis there a way to force the downgrade of a package?  i'm implementing (on one of my systems) a fork of a program that exists in another PPA I have, but the PPA that is currently implemented has a higher version number.  How can I tell the thing to use the older version of the package (sitting in another PPA, given that I removed the PPA with the higher version from apt sources)?02:58
lifelessResistance: apt-get install foo=version07:30
lifelessResistance: or use synaptic or aptitude07:31

artfwocyphermox, are you around?14:11
cyphermoxartfwo: yup14:11
artfwocyphermox, i resubmitted the merge proposal with fix for bug 910736, but now this results in a huge diff of 114042 lines14:12
ubottuLaunchpad bug 910736 in modemmanager (Ubuntu) "Add ignore rule for Arduino to udev blacklist" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/91073614:12
cyphermoxyes14:13
cyphermoxthat's because all there is in ~modemmanager is a debian/ directory14:13
cyphermoxbut I'll just take the debdiff and apply that, it will be simpler14:13
artfwoah, so that's ready for sponsoring now?14:13
cyphermoxartfwo: let me check14:20
=== yofel_ is now known as yofel
artfwocyphermox, i have attached an old-style debdiff to the original bug report, that doesn't touch files outside of debian/ just in case15:09
artfwoprevious debdiffs done with bzr diff -rbranch had patches applied, 'cause the patches were applied in the packaging branch too15:10

jtaylortumbleweed, ScottK: can you to apply the patch in bug 910922 to debian via team upload? would save a delta18:03
ubottuLaunchpad bug 910922 in pyparsing (Ubuntu) "switch to dh_python2" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/91092218:03
jtaylorchecked that patch, still works fine18:08
tumbleweedjtaylor: it's preferable to run changes like that past the package maintainer (although it doesn't look like he's maintaining that one very actively)18:57
ScottKjtaylor: When DPMT is just in uploaders, stuff like that should really be done by the maintainer.  I'd email him.19:02

psusiis there someone around who can update ubotu?  his raid factoid points to the lvm howto on tldp.org... the one on the ubuntu wiki may be more appropriate19:46
Laneywe should put syncpackage on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/New19:56
Laneyand "read your changesfiles"19:56
Laneyby "we" i mean "not me"19:57
* Laney runs away really fast19:57
broderLaney: huh, i've never seen that wiki page before20:36
* micahg has to remember to add a note about dch multi-maintainer mode (-m)20:39
Laney:-)21:07
Laneywell done new devs21:08
broderis poppy the sftp upload interface, or something else?21:09
broder(i'm trying to figure out how the backports pocket *actually* works right now)21:10
tumbleweedIIRC it's the upload receiver (sftp or ftp)21:14
broderok, good. so that would be the code path i want to be tracking down21:14
Resistancecan someone reset the sftp on launchpad's ppa uploaders, its constantly throwing those errors saying Upload denied, when in fact it is actually uploading21:55
micahgResistance: that's a known bug that I thought I've given you the number to21:58
Resistancei have the bug info21:58
Resistancebut is there a way to stop it throwing the errors every upload?21:58
Resistancei know its intermittent, but meh21:58
Laneyit's server side22:02
Laneyso not much you, or we, can do about it unfortunately22:02
Resistancebleh22:07
Resistance*looks at the bug*22:07
Resistancelooks like someone had some branch or something included on that bug... a related branch...22:08
Resistancei take it there's still no resolution at this time?22:08
Laneyyou'd be better off asking in #launchpad, but if there were news i would expect it to be on the bug22:13
Resistanceyeah i'm subscribed to the bug22:14
Resistance:p22:14
Resistancesomeone just posted saying it also happens to them, although i dont think we need any more of those comments :P22:14
chrisccoulsonit's also seriously annoying, because it makes it look like all of my automated uploads are failing22:16
