LinoSPI have a Toshiba Satellite 1555CDS and a DWL-G650+ wifi (which is a pita) I cannot install any lubuntu version newer than 10.04 because of cmov boot fail and DWL-G650+ doesn't work with 10.04 any ideas?00:11
MrChrisDruifSorry LinoSP I don't know anything about what your asking00:12
Unit193MrChrisDruif: His processor was one that was taken out of the kernel00:17
Unit193"For very old hardware (10-15 years): As support for i586 chipsets (these include VIA C3, AMD K6, National Semiconductor and AMD Geode) has been dropped from the kernel and GCC by ubuntu from the 10.10 series onwards, you will need to use the 10.04 release."00:23
holstein10.04 is supported as long as 11.10 is :)00:28
Unit193Well..... In terms of Ubuntu kernel and security, sure00:28
icerootholstein: lubuntu does not have lts, so the lxde-packages are not LTS (and imo on 10.04 lubuntu was not an official derivat)00:32
holsteinsure... so maybe ubuntu 10.04 with LXDE?00:33
icerootso lubuntu 10.04 is no longer supported and EOL (lxde packages)00:33
holsteinthat'll get kernel updates, and security updates00:33
icerootsure00:33
icerootbut not the lxde-packages00:34
holsteini mean, other that suggesting another distro, or putting an older kernel in one of the newer versions00:34
holsteinim just saying, not being able to install 11.10 is not the end of the world00:34
icerootcorrect00:34
Myrttithis is the time when I always think that recommending Debian is in order00:42
Unit193That's an idea as long as he can install it, maybe #! would support it?00:43
Myrtticome April, that's what I'll install on my Viglen MPC-L which has i58600:43
MyrttiDebian that is00:43
Unit193Myrtti: Testing?00:45
MyrttiUnit193: naturally00:45
Myrtti:-P00:45
Unit193Nice00:45
iceroothö? i586 no longer supported? just i686?00:45
icerootor what is the main-topic?00:46
Unit193iceroot: Yeah, not in Ubuntu00:46
icerootbut the same debian-kernel-versions still support i586?00:47
icerootor just because debian is not so fast with newer versions of a software so its still running on the stable-releases?00:49
Myrttidebian supports everything from toasters to supercomputers01:04
MrChrisDruifJust like Linux right?01:04
icerootMyrtti: so just ubuntu is building the 32bit kernel on i686 cpus and enabled the optimizing for i686?01:21
Unit193Ubuntu is also going to remove the non-pae kernel01:21
icerootthats bad01:22
icerootbecause vbox is not using pae by default because vt-x is disabled, so you cant run ubuntu on vbox by default01:22
Unit193Quite a lot of old ones support it, check it yourself with   grep pae /proc/cpuinfo01:23
Unit193It's a simple check box in VBox01:23
icerootUnit193: the cpus are not the problem but vbox01:23
icerootUnit193: and not the default, which is important01:23
Unit193Not really, simple fix. But anyway....01:23
icerootso by default ubuntu will not run on vbox01:24
icerootits like "ubuntu will by default not run on pcs" only changing a simple option in the bios make ubuntu run on pcs01:24
icerooti dont see one reason why we should support pae but ok, that is not my buisness01:25
Unit193No. This also isn't the place to complain abou it01:25

doritoDan_Hi.01:57
doritoDan_Sorry, I don't remember talking to you. :X01:58

MrChrisDruifIt's been a long time I said ❡⢁)01:58
doritoDan_Hehe.01:58
doritoDan_Same architecture as what?01:58
MrChrisDruif32 or 64 bit01:58
Unit193It's HIGHLY recommended to use the repo01:59
MrChrisDruifThat too01:59
MrChrisDruifBut still, it's awkward that it doesn't run01:59
doritoDan_Yeah it's the right architecture, MrChrisDruif .02:02
doritoDan_It's VMware Tools.02:02

MrChrisDruifAloha16:25
czzMrChrisDruif, You currently live in Hawaii?16:26
MrChrisDruifNope, sure want to ^_^16:26
MrChrisDruifczz; got an issue? If not we could go "offtopic" in #lubuntu-offtopic16:29
czzWhen i need to charge my laptop i plug in the power cord and in the bottom right portion of the taskbar it expands for about 2 seconds then goes back to its original size. After plugging in the power cord and unplugging it, the size of the taskbar starts to take up a large portion of the right and spaces out the currently opened icons.16:29
Neosanowell, it's a known bug :\16:30
czzNeosano, Excellent, I just wanted to make sure. :)16:30

=== AmberJain is now known as AmberJ
AmberJHello19:50
AmberJI don't know what causes this but this is pretty frequent and frustating...19:51
AmberJRight now, if I minimise all programs, I don't get to see lubuntu desktop19:51
AmberJInstead it seems that lubuntu desktop sort of hanged...19:51
AmberJAnd, in 'top' pcmanfm is using over 90% of my CPU...19:52
AmberJYes, I have pcmanfm open ...but I was not doing anything inside it. It was idle when this happened.19:52
AmberJDue to pcmanfm using >90% CPU, my PC is terribly slow19:55
AmberJOk, I closed pcmanfm...but due to it being tied to lubuntu-desktop (pcmanfm shows desktop items?), I can still not see the desktop19:56
AmberJI closed pcmanfm by right clicking on pcmanfm's entry on lubuntu's "Task bar" and it took few minutes for pcmanfm to close from my "task bar"...but19:57
AmberJ+ 'top' still shows pcmanfm running and consuming >90% of my CPU19:58
AmberJI'm on 11.10 and I faced this many times on 11.04 as well...19:58
AmberJThe best solution seems to be to reboot the system, but I didn't rebooted this time to see if developers want some logs from me about this problem...19:59
MrChrisDruifphillw; ^20:04
MrChrisDruifI'm sorry AmberJ , I don't remember who are the developers =(20:05
AmberJWell, when I said "developers" it meant everyone (people like you as well) :)20:06
AmberJMrChrisDruif, If you can tell me how to get some log files (that might be useful for devs) tell me. I can then probably mail it to devs (list?)20:06
* MrChrisDruif isn't a developer ^_^20:07
wxlyou cannot see the items on the desktop or the desktop is blank? can you see the panel? possible to get a screenshot?20:07
AmberJjust a min20:09
AmberJwxl, I minimize all programs one by one....When I'm minimizing the "last open program" (and I expect to see my lubuntu desktop), I get this instead: http://i.imgur.com/pWJCl.png20:11
AmberJThat weird screenshot is shown until I maximise some program (on maximising any program, that program works just fine)20:12
wxlbizarre20:13
wxljust for grins try openbox --restart20:13
AmberJ'openbox --restart' restarted openbox but pcmanfm still takes >90% of CPU (same problem...Lubuntu Desktop not showing)20:14
AmberJImho, this has todo with pcmanfm (rather than openbox/lxde)...20:14
AmberJor maybe, pcmanfm+lubuntuDesktopIntegration combo20:15
AmberJI don't know exactly how lubuntu/lxde shows Desktop icons...20:16
czzAmber Jain?20:16
AmberJyes czz ...Why?20:16
czz4chan will love this juicy information. :)20:17
czzI'm kidding...20:18
wxlsorry disappeared20:23
wxlwhat version of pcmanfm u have AmberJ ?20:24
AmberJwxl, well, the one that came with lubuntu 11.10 (latest...did 'sudo apt-get upgrade' an hour ago)20:24
AmberJI can't check because pcmanfm won't start right now...(because there's another pcmanfm eating my CPU in 'top')20:25
wxltry sudo apt-cache policy pcmanfm | grep -i installed20:25
AmberJAnd, I'm not rebooting in case anyone wants some logs...20:25
AmberJInstalled: 0.9.9-0ubuntu120:25
wxlyou can also killall pcmanfm20:26
wxlthat is the latest20:26
wxlweird20:26
AmberJI'm not killing intentionally in case anyone wants "live" logs from problematic pcmanfm execution...20:27
wxlthe logs will be there in any case20:27
AmberJoh ok20:28
AmberJ'sudo killall pcmanfm' failed to kill :D20:28
AmberJOnly 'sudo kill -9 PID' can kill it...20:29
wxli didn't say sudo silly :D20:29
AmberJWithout sudo won't help as well...20:30
AmberJstill running :P20:30
wxlbizarre20:31
wxleven kill -9 no luck?20:31
AmberJOn a side note, what bad will 'sudo' do? Won't it work otherwise?20:31
AmberJkill -9 did the trick. I just murdered 'pcmanfm' ;)20:31
wxlnot usually20:32
wxlsometimes it will mess things up20:32
wxlbut it's granting higher level access than is needed all the time20:32
AmberJI don't do it with all apps :D20:32
AmberJsudo firefox ;)20:32
AmberJor, sudo pidgin :P20:32
AmberJwxl, I just noticed this...After killing pcmanfm, I can minimize all programs to see my lubuntu desktop...20:38
AmberJThis was not same with 11.04. In 11.04, I had to reboot to bring my desktop back to normal20:38
wxli think you should run ubuntu-bug pcmanfm20:45
alkisgHi, will lubuntu 12.04 run in an old celeron @433, or it needs a more recent CPU with -pae enabled etc?21:22
Unit193That's being talked about, but 12.04 in some way should be able to run on computers without support for PAE21:22
bioterrortry it out and tell us :-)21:23
Unit19312.10 I don't think will21:23
alkisgIs the daily-live in a reasonable state, or should I download alpha-1 instead?21:23
bioterrorlast time I used 64bit daily live, I had this lightdm problem21:25
alkisgHmmm thank you, I'll download http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/current/precise-desktop-i386.iso and try to work around any errors21:26
alkisgBtw for any people interested, I was able to boot lubuntu in recovery mode and startx afterwards, and that prevented most system services from running, resulting in about 50MB used memory with X and everything... very good for old computers with e.g. 128 MB RAM.21:29
phillwalkisg: you can see if you have pae support from terminal21:32
phillw grep pae /proc/cpuinfo21:32
phillwit will return nothing if pae is not available.21:32
alkisgThank you, let me boot that pc...21:32
Neosanoalkisg, for me lubuntu is using less than 128 ram with normal booting :)21:42
alkisgNeosano: true, but I believe you don't have enough left to surf with21:43
alkisgWhile with more than 70MB free, one can also open a browser21:44
Neosanoeven if os used less than 0 mb memory it wont be possible to surf :(21:44
alkisgI've tested that configuration, I'm not talking theoretical21:45
Neosanobut thanks for the trick ^^21:45
alkisgOf course I'm not talking about youtube either :)21:45
Neosanofirefox is using 210 mb with 3 tabs opened21:46
Neosanoone of them is youtube, yes21:46
Neosanobut closing it wont help that much :\21:46
alkisgI was able to open 3 tabs with 128 RAM with no noticable problems21:46
AmberJwxl, did 'ubuntu-bug pcmanfm'. Thanks.22:07

eaburnsIdeally it would find it by default23:52
bioterrorthat's said in manpages23:52
