rbasakIs anyone aware of a regression in precise for pandas? Or any changes made since yesterday that might be relevant? I had an automated install working yesterday, but it is failing to boot after the installer today, and I haven't changed anything.09:10
infinityrbasak: Not that I know of.09:13
infinityrbasak: You mean fresh installs don't work, or a dist-upgraded one has failed to continue working?09:13
rbasakfresh installs don't work09:13
rbasakI'm just trying oneiric now to check it's not something not archive related09:13
infinityThere was a new kernel yesterday.  Could be broken, or the images could just be suffering from some archive breakage.09:14
rbasakok, thanks. I might ask for some help debugging this in a bit09:16

rbasakOK I think there's a regression for panda in the new kernel. It just doesn't boot, no output after "Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel.", even with quiet etc. removed from the command line. The installer works fine. Any help please?11:11
rbasakor can anyone reproduce?11:12
janimorbasak, I know there was such a bug in omap4 kernel last Linaro release, worked around by passing a compiler flag11:16
janimobut not sure about latest kernels11:16

Spider-PorkI've followed this guide for booting from USB instead of SD card on my pandaboard. It boot but is really, really slow and the board seems to continuosly access USB HD. I'm using prebuild image for ubuntu 11.10 http://omappedia.org/wiki/Prebuilt_ubuntu_binaries. Is it normal? Thank you12:32
Spider-Porkops, ---> this guide http://omappedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_on_OMAP_FAQ#I_want_to_install_Ubuntu_on_external_USB_hard_disk_instead_of_sluggish_SD_card12:33

GrueMasterSpider-Pork: Not sure what to tell you on that because I haven't tried that method.  I use the netinstall image to install to a USB drive (Sata) and it seems fairly responsive.13:52
Giovani_brHi, I would like to have a console terminal in the serial port, instead of the hdmi. How can I configure?13:52
GrueMasterGiovani_br: Desktop image or server image?13:52
Spider-PorkGrueMaster: oh is possible to install on external drive with netinstall?13:53
Spider-Porkwhere you put the url to external disk?13:53
Spider-Porkyou put image of netinstall on SD right?13:53
Spider-Porkand then from netinstall put external disk URL?13:53
Giovani_brGrueMaster: server image, I am using pandaboard. I have the serial port connected the last message says: "stopping read required files in advance [ OK ]" then the login screen is displayed in the hdmi13:53
GrueMasterIt still requires an SD, but the rootfs & swap get installed on the usb drive.13:53
Spider-PorkGrueMaster: ok but how you done it?13:54
GrueMasterGiovani_br: The server image should create a login tty on the serial port.13:54
Giovani_brGrueMaster: it is not creating ;/13:54
Giovani_brubuntu-11.10-preinstalled-server-armel+omap4.img this is the image13:55
QuintasanARGH13:55
Quintasanogra_: ping13:55
Spider-Porkok, you wrote it on your SD right?13:55
Giovani_brGrueMaster: the login tty is on the hdmi port13:55
GrueMasterSpider-Pork:  Download the netinstall image from http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/oneiric/main/installer-armel/current/images/omap4/netboot/13:55
GrueMasterSpider-Pork: Use one of boot.img-[serial|fb].  The serial one puts the config screen out to the serial console, and the fb will run install from the screen.13:56
Spider-Porkok and then how you indicate URL for external drive?13:57
Spider-Porkthe alternate install ask to you?13:57
GrueMasterGiovani_br: What do you have on the serial console?  Do you see u-boot messages?13:57
Giovani_brGrueMaster: yes13:57
GrueMasterSpider-Pork: The installer will have a section on guided partitioning.13:57
Giovani_brGrueMaster: also linux messages13:57
Spider-PorkGrueMaster: thank you!13:57
Giovani_brbut not the login13:57
GrueMasterGiovani_br: Which image are you running?13:57
Giovani_brGrueMaster: ubuntu-11.10-preinstalled-server-armel+omap4.img13:58
GrueMasterVery odd.  I have that running here on one of my pandas.  It sounds like you either are missing /etc/init/ttyO2.conf, or it is corrupted.13:58
Giovani_brI will see in the sd card14:00
reisei\quit14:11
Spider-PorkGrueMaster: on netboot installer, you have selected ubuntu desktop USB?14:20
Spider-Pork*have you14:22
GrueMasterNo, select Ubuntu-desktop.  The other one isfor creating a live USBstick (and I think it is only for x86).14:23
Spider-Porkok tyhankyou14:24
GrueMasterSpider-Pork: Are you using Oneiric?14:25
Spider-PorkGrueMaster: 11.10+14:28

GrueMasterOk, cool.  Reason I asked was we have a broken kernel in the 12.04 pool atm.14:29
Spider-Porkok thank you14:29
Spider-Porki came from openembedded. How ubuntu create these prebuild images?14:30
ogra_using the cdimage build servers in the canonical datacenter :)14:30
Spider-Porkfor example: on openembedded I utilize bitbake my_image_recipe14:30
GrueMasterMagic fairy dust sprikled liberally over a lot of crappy scripts.14:30
ogra_they are assembled from the binary debs14:31
Spider-Porkah ok14:31
Spider-Porkso i can't build my own ubuntu14:31
Spider-Porki must wait prebuild images from canonical right?14:31
ogra_the tool building the filesystem is called live-build but that only gives you the content of the second partition14:32
GrueMasterYou can, but I don't know how to get you started.  Others have before.14:32
Spider-Porkso i must build kernel and uboot14:32
Spider-Porkand boot.scr right?14:32
ogra_the image itself and the partitioninjg are done with the scripts from cdimage14:32
Spider-Porkok14:33
Spider-Porkthank you14:33
infinityppisati: *poke*14:33
Spider-Porki'll study this system better14:33
infinityppisati: Come join us in the ARM room for a second?14:34
Spider-Porkis there a doc about these stuff?14:34
Spider-PorkGrueMaster: are you sure about ubuntu desktop choice? After selected it nothing appeared then. Is blocked there, apparently doing nothing15:03
GrueMasterSpider-Pork: Unfortunately, I am not in a position to reproduce this at the moment.  I am going by memory.15:11
GrueMasterWhat are you seeing after the install finishes?  Just a login console?15:12
Spider-PorkGrueMaster: simply freeze15:12
Spider-Porki see the coice for what kind of install i would15:12
Spider-Porkand nothing more15:12
Spider-Porki rebooted15:13
Spider-PorkI select again ubuntu desktop15:13
GrueMasterSounds like something isn't getting installed right.15:13
Spider-Porkthen apparently load packages and restart asking me locale, UTC, username, keyboard15:13
Spider-Porkso on at while(1)15:13
Spider-Porkis the third time i write the SD server installation15:14
Spider-PorkI'm starting to think that this SD card has some problems15:14
GrueMasterWait, which are you running? preinstalled-server, preinstalled-desktop, or netinstall?15:14
Spider-Porkpreinstalled-server15:15
Spider-Porkoh wait15:15
GrueMasterAnd you are trying to get desktop running from that?15:15
Spider-Porkyep15:15
GrueMasterI thought you wanted to install onto a usb drive?15:16
Spider-Porkoh my god15:16
Spider-PorkI readen the wrong line15:16
Spider-Porkyou told me to use netinstall15:16
Spider-Porknot server15:17
GrueMasterYes.15:17
* Spider-Pork take out his head from the ass15:17
GrueMasterI need to shutdown and pack up.  I'll be back online Monday to help further (1400 UTC).15:18
Spider-Porkthank you GrueMaster15:18
