SludgeFactoryhow do you check your packages to see what you have installed?16:59
holsteinSludgeFactory: i typically open synaptic and put them in order of whats installed17:09
holsteinand narrow down from there17:09
IznougoudAfternoon all. One quick question: I'm having an old laptop (1Ghz Celeron, 384Mb RAM), which is struggling to run WinXP. Is there a distribution of xUbuntu that would run decently on such a config? All I really want to use it for is surf the web and watch the odd movie with reasonable ease.17:09
holsteinsynaptic was the first tool i used though, and i tend to default to it17:09
holsteinIznougoud: try it live.. should be fine17:09
holsteinmaybe you can find a shop with cheap ram too17:09
holsteinsometimes you can max the ram out in old machines like that for $20 us :)17:10
Iznougoudholstein: Yes. Not in this case though, although I managed to squeeze in an extra 128Mb as compared to the original 256Mb ;)17:11
holsteinIznougoud: shoud take 2 256's then, if you can find them.. if you were near me i'd give you one :)17:11
SludgeFactoryholstein thanks17:11
IznougoudAlas, I fear not. It only has one RAM-slot in which I put a 256Mb stick instead of the original 128Mb stick. And it's got 128Mb on the motherboard. Awful contraption.17:12

IznougoudThanks.17:15
holsteinIznougoud: sometimes installing can be a drag with that low memory17:19

csenger41:)22:25
TheSheepcsenger41: that's awesome, welcome22:25

csenger41I've started university last year, now learning programming in C22:26
csenger41it's a long way to know enough to patch such thing :(22:26
knomesure22:26
TheSheeponly if you rely on the university to teach you22:27
knomethough in the xubuntu development, there are things that don't need knowing c22:27
knomeyou can contribute in various ways22:27
TheSheepcsenger41: the long answer is that you might be able to remove them with a custom gtk theme, but I have no idea where to even start looking for hints on how to do that22:28
csenger41TheSheep: never mind, luckily it's only in System Manager and Global Menu22:29
knomei'm not sure if that is really controllable with gtk themes22:29
TheSheepcsenger41: no, it's everywhere22:29
knomei suppose the highlights are using the same color as fg22:29
knome== text22:29
TheSheepknome: highlights?22:29
TheSheepknome: they are underlines22:29
knomeyes, underlines, but in a broader sense, they are highlights :)22:29
TheSheepknome: they are things like <b> and <i>22:30
knomei know what you are talking about22:30
knomeunderline is <u> ;)22:30
csenger41well their appearance depends on programs22:30
knomeusually it's underlines22:30
TheSheepI'm pretty sure you cannot remove them by changing their color to blend into the background, but I think you might be able to remove them by making their font style the same as normal fonts22:30
csenger41they appear in Xchat but not in Chromium22:31
TheSheepcsenger41: chromium has its own interface code22:31
knomeTheSheep, ah, so you mean they are technically like html tags? nice. :)22:31
TheSheepcsenger41: it's a special case22:31
TheSheepknome: they are actually html-like tags22:31
