dfgdfgdffceux problem: Every time I run the program it starts up, can play with some minor tearing, but when I exit the screen is blank...lost?17:40
goddardwhats a good router that will let me hook up my printer and an external drive?18:34
goddardim talkin like fast wifi and stuff18:34
goddardi got a linksys e3200 and i cant get the external drive working18:34
holsteingoddard: you'll need to elaborat on 'the external drive"18:36
holsteinif its a lan drive, with networking, you can configure it to work anywhere18:36
holsteinif you need a USB port, then you'll need to look for that funtionality, and make sure it supports linux18:37
goddardholstein: that is a little to generic my friend you need to elaborat more :D19:00
holsteingoddard: sure19:01
holsteinwhen you say "external", more information is needed... is it USB? is it LAN? is it in a NAS box?19:02
bobweaverhello there could anyone please tell me how to change the default ports on a ubuntu server for well anything but ssh in particular  thansk19:43
bobweaverthanks *19:43
holsteinbobweaver: not ssh?19:44
Unit193bobweaver: Check /etc/ssh/sshd_config19:44
bobweaveralso can I turn off all services mysql apache ssh vpn with the services stop <name>  or is it better to use sudo /etc/init.d/<name> start ?19:45
bobweaverthansk Unit19319:45
Unit193holstein: "Anything would help, bnut really need it for SSH" is how I read it19:45
holsteini literally purge what i dont use19:45
bobweaverholstein: good idea19:45
bobweaverUnit193:  you got it right19:45
holsteini wouldnt trust changing the port only19:46
Unit193Awesome19:46
bobweaverbut I would still like ssh but on a different port and also can I do that with any servvice ?19:46
holsteinbobweaver: you can check the config files... AFAIK, you can use custom ports for all i have encountered19:47
Unit193Config files, and man pages19:47
holsteinthough, i never got freeNX to work on anything other than port 22 :/19:47
Unit193Man pages have a "see also" section19:47
holsteinmy fault though...19:47
bobweaverI also read that it is good to have apache installed on a different patition. any thoughts ?19:48
bobweaverpartition *19:48
holsteini have strict "do what makes you feel safe" rule19:49
holsteini would say, the user permissions would be more important19:49
bobweaverthanks holstein19:49
holsteinvirtualizing is a nice way to isolate too assuming you can afford the overhead19:49
Unit193I personally prefer cherokee, lighttpd, or something like that over apache now days19:49
holsteinUnit193: i need to get into lighttpd19:50
holsteinapache is totally overkill for me, its just what i started with, and half understand ;)19:50
bobweaverI was also wondering about that holstein should I install say lubuntu then virtual box like 4 or 5 with ubuntu server on it  or is there a better way that I should go about that ?19:50
Unit193holstein: I'm not sure I'd be able to help much, but I could pretend to19:50
holsteinhehe19:51
bobweaverUnit193:  I have not looked into cherokee but have heard real good things about lighttpd19:52
Unit193I use both, but on different computers for different things19:52
bobweaverCOol19:52
bobweaverback to the virtual servers. Do you all think that I should install lubuntu (light) then install virtual box on that with like 4 ubuntu servers on that? Or is there a better way to go ?19:53
bobweaverI have 8 gig ram 1 i519:54
holsteinLXDE is light19:55
holsteinyou can run virtualbox headless without X19:55
holsteinbut i have not had a chance to play with it19:55
holsteinif you got the ram, just do LXDE and "get your feet wet"19:56
bobweaversweet holstein that is what I will do19:57
* Unit193 thought there was this "lubuntu-core" you could install........19:57
bobweavergreat news is great !!19:57
bobweaverthanks !19:59
eyadofhi , i have a problem with sound , no sound appear when i play a video , in last time i enter sound setting and put it to analog but now no thing working , any help20:45
holsteineyadof: you can try install pavucontrol20:46
holsteini would suggest troubleshooting with a simple audio file in a simple audio player20:46
eyadofholstein: what is this ?20:47
holsteineyadof: ?20:47
holsteinpavucontrol?20:47
eyadofyes20:47
holsteinits a suggestion... its a pulseaudio control package20:48
holsteinnot sure what you have "set to analog"20:48
eyadofin my sound setting there is two hardware HDMI and internal audio i set the internal audio profile to be Analog stereo20:49
eyadofanyway i installed pavucontrol20:50
eyadofit's show me dummy output20:50
holsteineyadof: OK... so that might mean your audio has crashed20:51
holsteinthats what i see there when it crashes20:51
holsteini say, work through https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting20:51
holsteintry restarting alsa20:51
holsteinif sound used to work, and recently stopped working try booting in using an older kernel20:52
eyadofi will20:52
eyadofi restart alsa nothing change20:54
holsteineyadof: right on20:55
holsteinwhat from that link have you tried?20:55
holsteinhave you tried an older kernel?20:55
thewrathhello all20:55
holsteinhave you looked for and applied all upgrades?20:56
thewrathi am using fedora but can someone help me with setting up my logitech quickcam on n linux20:56
Unit193Might be better off in #fedora....20:56
thewrathUnit193: i am in there too20:57
thewrathbut I am thinking if soemone could tell me how to do it in Ubuntu I could do it in Fedora20:57
Unit193It's generally not liked if you cross post, and since Ubuntu uses Unity by default and the core is different, things wouldn't be the same20:58
holsteinthe one i had, i literally plugged it in20:58
thewrathok20:58
* Unit193 The Grouch20:59
eyadofholstein: i tried older kernel its work untill now and my system is up to date21:03
eyadofthis problem appear after updating21:04
holsteineyadof: ok... so i would say the kernel would be a good place to start (im unclear as to if you have tried an older one as a remedy) and also the ALSA version... also, im not sure what settings changes you have made or what, but you might want to try and reverse them21:06
eyadofok thanks for helping21:07
