jussiSo, Ive got a small bug on my 12.04 - can someone confirm a maximised chromium browser doesnt have close/maximise/minimise buttons??11:12
obelusjussi - you still there? I just got back to myt computer11:43
jussiobelus: yup, still here11:45
obelusI'm running 12.04 on my laptop at the moment, just running an apt-get upgrade and then I'll install Chromium and see if that happens to me11:46
obelusYou have an address bar still, right?11:47
jussiobelus: yeah, just the buttons for close, maximise and minimise are missing11:47
obelusAre you using Unity?11:47
jussino11:47
jussiIm on Kubuntu11:48
obelusAhhh. So normally your buttons are just on the title bar? Not up to date with KDE11:48
jussithought the problem is only limited to chromiums with titlebars turned off11:48
obelusis that an option in Chromium?11:49
obelusJust trying to work out how much I can do to try to reproduce the problem so I can see if I can work it out11:49
jussiyeah, chromium option11:49
obelusI'm guessing that it might be a bug in the Chromium package though, but I'll see if I can do anything11:49
jussiand its only an issue on maximised chromium.11:49
jussiie. non maximised looks like: http://wstaw.org/m/2012/01/20/plasma-desktopeJ2719.png11:50
jussimaximised: http://wstaw.org/m/2012/01/20/plasma-desktopkR2719.png11:50
obelus... lol, just switched from the tty terminal to graphical, and now my thing won't log in to test it :P might be a minute, I'm hanging on the greeter11:52
jussilol11:53
jussisomeone broke something11:53
obelus:p my own fault, probably, not sure what I did to it though11:53
obelusIt logged in, just took a while11:53
obelusI'd given up and started doing the REISUB thing and it just started after the R11:54
obelusWhen I turned off 'use system title bar and borders'11:55
obelusthe buttons appeared on the left isde of the window11:55
obelusside*11:55
obelusAwesome, my laptop's online here now.11:56
obelusI don't suppose yours appeared on the left too? (would be weird, but worth asking *shrug*)11:58
jussiobelus: nope, not anywhere12:01
obelusjussi: :/ sounds like it's a bug in the way it works just with KDE, because it works fine for me... your packages all up to date?12:04
jussiobelus: yeah, up to date. Ill bug kde peoples :)12:19
obelusjussi: Sorry I couldn't help:( best of luck with it...12:27
obelusOne last thing just popped into my mind, did it happen as soon as you installed it or was it after a change or update...? I'd suggest purging the package and reinstalling it if it happened after something else.12:29
meerkatsare there plans to update gnome classic with workable top and bottom bars?12:34
jussimeerkats: Im pretty sure thats available now12:35
meerkatsjussi, I have problems to get rid of redundant access icons12:36
jussi!notunity12:36
ubottuUbuntu 11.10 uses GNOME 3 with the !unity shell by default.  To use GNOME Shell instead, install the "gnome-shell" package and investigate "gnome-tweak-tool".  For GNOME Fallback mode, which is similar to GNOME 2, install "gnome-panel". Both packages will place entries in the Sessions dropdown. Using Natty? See !classic12:36
meerkatsthey just wont go12:36
jussimeerkats: other than that, I cant really help. (Im a kde user)12:37
meerkatslol, ok12:37
meerkatswhat will 12.04 be? unity too?12:37
jokerdinoyep12:38
meerkatsam I missing functions by sticking to gnome classic?12:38
jokerdinoi can't answer that. it depends on what you want.12:39
DaekdroomHe left already, but I'd like to point out that gnome classic already has workable top and bottom bars.13:06
DaekdroomThere's a key you need to press to change them, but that's it.13:06
AlanBellanyone else got unity3d breakage today?13:17
AlanBellI can't get to a desktop in 3d, just a blank wallpaper13:17
DaekdroomDamn it. I upgraded already.13:19
DaekdroomBetter not restart my session13:19
AlanBellit could easily be just me13:20
DaekdroomWell, I just tried 'unity --replace' and it worked alright13:21
ro0otHas anyone attempted to install vmware on ubuntu 12?13:30
cjokethanks for hdspmixer :)13:45
BluesKajHi all13:46
meerkatsin 12.04, gnome GUI, are you going to develope a calendar with multiple places and hours/weather to be displayed simultaneously?14:46
meerkatsexample: time both for london and tokyo14:46

jokerdinofor gnome-shell ?15:01
jokerdinoi am not exactly sure about that, but i heard someone was making an extension that does that15:02
Daekdroommeerkats, If you are talking about gnome-shell, I wouldn't expect you to find the answer in this channel.15:05
jokerdinooh yeah, the relevant channel is #gnome right?15:09
DaekdroomIndeed.15:10
hggdhanyone on the new kernel with sound issues?16:19
h00kI have to boot up yet today from yesterday's upgrades (about a weeks worth)16:21
hggdhI think the new kernel (3.2.0-10) made it in the last few hours16:22
BluesKajhggdh,  which soundcard , and have you setup alsamixer and pulseaudio if installed?16:23
hggdhBluesKaj: nVidia high-def, pulseaudio up. Booting to 3.2.0-9 gives me sound. Will have to reboot on -10 to pursue it16:25
BluesKajhggdh,  maybe your snd module isn't loaded in the new kernel, check the  /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf to make sure it's Card016:29
hggdhwill do. But... if this is the case, it is still a break16:29
BluesKajyou could always find in the 09 kernel alsa-base.conf file and the reload with modprobe snd_nameofmodule16:31
BluesKajaamof I haven't rebooted sonce the new kernel was updated either16:32
BluesKajsince16:32
hggdhwill test it all as soon as the current meeting I am in is done16:32
BluesKajyeah , gonna reboot here ..bbiab16:32
BluesKajhmm , just rebooted with new kernel and audio is fine here16:37
radekBHi, I installed Unity 5 on Oneiric, everything worked fine, until I wanted to launch Deja-dup tool from the Dash. Instead of DD, System settings window appeared and kept reappearing after close until logout. Is there some solution?17:15
radekBAh, probably a missing link to libunity.so.617:20
smjmsis anyone else's GTK programs being rendered with a black background in KDE? :(18:59
jasefI just got an error saying WARNING: gnome-keyring:: no socket to connect to" when running an upgrade, anyone know how I could go about fixing that?19:03
jo-erlendwill the panel clock come back automatically, or must I reinstall it manually?19:11
trismjo-erlend: try installing indicator-datetime19:12
jo-erlendtrism, do I have to restart Unity, or can I just run indicator-datetime?19:13
jo-erlendnevermind, I just restarted it and my clock is back :)19:15
jo-erlendthanks trism :)19:15
thechefThe performance improvements are now available without the Unity PPA?21:13
Daekdroomthechef, Both precise repositories and unity ppa have unity 5.021:15
thechefokay, thanks - I'm trying to compare the performance of moving windows with Lucid (just by the eye) and if 12.04 capable is capable even on atom with intel graphics to display a clicked context menu while you still here the click. Lucid satisfied this expectation easily and I now see that Precise is trying to catch up, I hope it will be a 100% as fast when it's released21:21
Daekdroomthechef, were you using compiz on lucid? Otherwise, it's not a fair comparison.21:27
thechefDaekdroom, yes - but  it wasn't even a correct comparison yet. As I don't have a dual boot configuration and didn't install any measurement devices yet. (you would need some sort of camera which takes a 1000 pictures per second, right?)21:30
DaekdroomYou're right. It'd hardly be a correct comparison.21:30

Guest497Is 12.04 usable yet or is it still buggy?22:28
guntbertGuest497: its alpha 1 - what do you expect?22:29
Guest497How can it be buggy, though - why are different versions of software incompatible?22:31
guntbertGuest497: please read up what alpha status means22:32
Guest497I know what it means22:32
Guest497I just don't understand how a distro can be buggy.  Obviously immature software is buggy, but all the software in alpha 1 is mature22:33
trismGuest497: well, gtk is 3.3.8, so that isn't really true22:38
DaekdroomAnd it's not about the software being mature.22:46
DaekdroomThere has to be some slight tweaks, even when you work with every software stable, when you update something (specially libraries).22:47
meerkatsin unity, is there a stable way of shrinking the bar icons?22:54
meerkatsor, is it being developed?22:54
Daekdroommeerkats, you mean the launcher?22:54
meerkatsyes Daekdroom22:55
Daekdroommeerkats, install compizconfig-settings-manager22:55
Daekdroomthen, run 'ccsm', Find "Ubuntu Unity Plugin", and under the Experimental tab, mess with the Launcher icon size slider.22:56
meerkatsDaekdroom, is it enough with turning back ? I dont see any accept or apply icon23:03
Daekdroommeerkats, it should work from the next time you open the launcher, why?23:04
meerkatsDaekdroom, do I have to enable the plug in?23:04
Daekdroommeerkats, if it's disabled, you're not using Unity.23:05
meerkatsaa..23:05
DaekdroomHave in mind that Unity and Unity-2D(also called Unity-qt) are fairly different23:06
meerkatscrap... i DONT KNOW IN WHICH ON i AM... sorry23:06
DaekdroomIf the plugin is disabled, then you must be using Unity-2D, for which I don't know how (and if it's possible) to change the launcher icon size.23:07
urlin2uyou can't in ubuntu 223:08
meerkatsshould I disable it? being in unity2d23:09
