MaxHRHello, just tried installing takeoff from http://code.google.com/p/takeoff-launcher/wiki/Downloads?tm=2 and got an error that kdelibs is not installable, any ideas to fix?00:21
tkennedycan anyone help me out with 11.10 muon update issue?00:25

DasKreechtkennedy: what's the issue?00:50
tkennedybasically muon updater says I have updates and when I got to install them the app just sites there doing nothing00:53
tkennedyI've tried the usual apt-get update; apt-get install -f but that didn't work00:54
tkennedyI'm about ready to reimage the PC and start over00:54
James147tkennedy: have you tried "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" ?00:58
tkennedyno....I will try00:59
tkennedythere's nothing to upgrade so it says00:59
tkennedyalso the muon package update app tells me it can't resolve a proxy server I set. But I have since removed the proxy settings and put back to direct connect but it still references them01:01
tkennedydoes the package mgr cache this somewhere01:01
DasKreechtkennedy: what kind of cache?01:04
tkennedyI am going to clear my .kde/share/config and see if that fixes it01:05
LINKSWORD2I'm back, everybody.01:33
LINKSWORD2Odd. KPackageKit isn't finding distribution upgrades.01:36
viKtor_hey guys i really need help, love kde applications but love gnome shell (just how the shell itself works) i need something that makes me want kde, cause i don't really like the windows bar like interface :S01:38
viKtor_so why should i prefer kde 4 instead of gnome shell?01:38
LINKSWORD2viKtor_: You can move and re-customize the kickoff bar any time you like.01:39
viKtor_LINKSWORD2: but still i have the same behavior, a bar with taskbar meny and systry01:40
LINKSWORD2Well, what would make your situation better?01:42

viKtor_actually i love dolphin01:44

LINKSWORD2If I had a more powerful computer, I would actually have mine customized to look and perform like an Apple iMac, but without the overpriced hardware.01:44
viKtor_LINKSWORD2: how does it look like?01:45

sundar_hi05:55
sundar_i want configure nat by using two interfaces05:55
sundar_can someone please help me how to do with ubuntu05:56
DasKreechyou mean make a gateway?05:59
sundar_yes05:59
sundar_i am reading a howto, which explains using two network cards. in my case i am using a 3G modem as one of the interfaces.06:01
sundar_www.howtoforge.com/nat_iptables06:01
DasKreechsundar_: that's a Redhat implementation06:08
sundar_DasKreech, yes. one of the comments posted says the iptables service once restarted am back to step 106:10
sundar_i am little confused06:10
DasKreechhttp://www.debian-administration.org/articles/23 is better suited for Ubuntu you can substitute your network interfaces there as needed06:10
sundar_thanks, ill check this out06:11
sundar_DasKreech, this one is easier. i'll try this out06:18
DasKreechsundar_: how's it going?06:42
sundar_DasKreech, i have configured my 3G modem connection as ppp0 interface06:42
sundar_i have replaced eth1 in the example to ppp006:43
sundar_as that is going to my external IP06:43
sundar_but the problem is the default gateway as shown in the "route" comman06:44
sundar_command*06:44
sundar_should i delete the default gateway so that all traffic can go via ppp0 only?06:45
sundar_the machine is connected to internet through two interfaces now. one is eth0 and the other is ppp006:46
sundar_i want only ppp0 to remain as the external IP, and the other as simply a LAN interface through which another client will use as gateway06:47
DasKreechsundar_: Yes06:47
DasKreechthe route to outside should be setup to point to the external interface06:47
sundar_so my understanding is, i have to delete the default gateway shown in the route command. is it correct?06:48
DasKreechand for the other computer in the network they should have the route set to the internal IP address06:48
sundar_yes, that step is done with the help of the script given in the example06:48
sundar_ok, you mean the client should set a route entry with gateway's IP06:49
* Shaan7 used to follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Internet/ConnectionSharing <-- easy steps06:51
DasKreechYes the internal IP address06:51
sundar_DasKreech, configuration to be done in client machine is two fold. first, to remove existing default gateway. second is to add the new gateway's IP address. is this correct?06:52
sundar_DasKreech, in the gateway side, what is supposed to be the default gateway as shown in route06:54
sundar_DasKreech, I am setting up this configuration to use the NAT functionality. is connection sharing and NAT both the same?06:55

BluesKajdies_irae,  do you mean when rekonq launches it disconnects irssi ?18:26
dies_iraeBluesKaj: now running firefox and irssi is not disconnecting nor I have problems with loading pages.18:27
dies_iraeI am telling you something messed up with reqonk18:27
BluesKajdies_irae,  yes , it crashes a lot here too , but i don't even bother with trying it anymore ...it needs a lot of work18:28
dies_iraeexactly what I am saying, I don't get it why is default icon in the menu18:29
BluesKajdies_irae,  set your default browser in system settings>default apps>web browser and in the terminal , sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser18:35
dies_iraeBluesKaj: I am on liveUSB18:35
BluesKajok18:36
dies_iraeand the flash drive installation was epically failed.18:36
dies_iraeis there a way to install kubuntu like Gentoo?? Something that's impossible to fail and bugless??18:37
BluesKajdies_irae,  I always use the alternate install18:38
BluesKaj!alternate | dies_irae18:38
ubottudies_irae: The Alternate CD is a classical text-mode install CD. It supports a wider range of hardware than the !LiveCD, and can also be used as an upgrade CD.  Look for the alternate checkbox on the Kubuntu download page - See also !minimal18:38
BluesKajdies_irae,  doubt that even gentoo is not impossible to fail18:39
dies_iraeBluesKaj: technically is impossible to fail an install. There's no script doing it or a program. Is like you are laying down stuff by hand on the hard drive.18:41
BluesKajdies_irae,  never did a gentoo , but 'impossible' is a very hard to believe from my POV.18:43

djusticecurious, does anyone here know the real difference between kdesu and sudo?21:18
ts2kdesu(do) is designed to set up the environment correctly for GUI apps21:20
ts2mostly making sure sudo sets $HOME correctly21:20
ts2but also setting up X authentication21:20
djusticets2: i need to know details. can you link me somewhere?21:20
ts2!kdesu21:20
ubottuIn KDE use « kdesudo <program> » (or « kdesu <program> » for Feisty and earlier) to run graphical applications with root privileges when you have to. Never just use "sudo"! | See http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/graphicalsudo to find out why21:20
djusticemy 'sudo app' is causing dbus/threading weirdness, but 'kdesu app' works fine.21:21
djusticeawesome. will read. thanks!21:21
ts2well dbus won't work if you just use sudo, as the dbus session information is stored in the users environment (and sudo resets the environment by default)21:21
ts2the system bus is still accessible, but not the session bus, which is per-user/session21:22
djusticewahhh. thanks again!! exactly what i needed.21:23

ubottuBluesKaj: sudo is a command to run command-line programs with superuser privileges ("root") (also see !cli). Look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo for more information. For graphical applications see !gksu (GNOME, Xfce), or !kdesudo (KDE). If you're unable to execute commands with sudo see: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/fixsudo22:36
