bkerensatgm4883: Not anymore :)02:36
bkerensaHe works on awesomeness :P02:36
tgm4883ah02:36
bkerensaWell I'm all moved into my new place :D Internet is working (Most important thing right?)02:37
bkerensatgm4883: http://outflux.net/prof/resume.php02:37
tgm4883nice02:38
bkerensatgm4883: But it would seem this channels Canonical numbers are increasing02:39
bkerensa:D02:39
tgm4883bkerensa, ah02:39
* tgm4883 has a phone interview with canonical tomorrow02:39
bkerensacweber10: Ping me and let me know what times and days will work best for checkins and mentoring for you02:39
bkerensatgm4883: Dont tell me QA?02:39
bkerensa:D02:39
tgm4883nope, support02:40
tgm4883for launchpad it seems02:40
bkerensatgm4883: Thats much better in my book :P02:40
bkerensaoh cool :)02:40
bkerensaCanonical needs more people on the LP team02:40
tgm4883I've also got an offer from the local community college, I need to find out what types of things canonical offers02:41
bkerensatgm4883: Knock em dead.02:41
tgm4883I'll try :)02:41
bkerensatgm4883: Well obviously I dont work for Canonical but I have heard of some of the stuff they offer02:41
bkerensabut I hear it differ per candidate02:41
bkerensa:D02:41
tgm4883all I've heard is competitive pay based on where you live02:42
tgm4883which doesn't say alot02:42
bkerensatgm4883: might wanna ask albrigha (I'm not sure how much they can talk about their packages) he is a new hire but has been with the loco for a long time02:43
bkerensaD:02:43
bkerensaalso02:44
bkerensahttp://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/nm0n0/working_for_canonical/02:44
tgm4883yea I've seen that thread02:44
bkerensaimho the biggest perk is you can work from home for most positions.... You get paid comparable (so I hear) the average for the position in the sector and you get to travel for sprints, uds.... I'm unsure about 401k, health etc in fact I would bet because they are international that they might just compensate you higher so you can seek those things on your own but thats a best guess :)02:46
tgm4883yea that was my guess as well02:47
bkerensaI mean it would be too complicated for them to establish HMO's and benefits in all the countries they have employees02:47
bkerensaI hear you get free premium U1 :P02:48
tgm4883bkerensa, I've heard you get free landscape02:48
bkerensayeah02:49
bkerensaI hear its free services across the board plus you can pretty much request Ubuntu swag on demand to a level of reasonableness02:49
tgm4883I require a Ubuntu Jet!02:50
bkerensaheh02:50
bkerensaI think the company only has a Shuttle02:50
bkerensa:P02:50
blkperlbkerensa: want to come advertise ubuntu oregon at psu?04:28
TRAVISgI added myself to the Wiki and then did a little housekeeping just went by the note to have everyone in order of city by number of members and then alphabet let me know if I was out of whack I have never changed a Wiki before08:36
bkerensablkperl: In what way and when? :)15:15
bkerensaDoes it require a talk? :P15:15
TRAVISgI don't know if it requires a talk?15:31
TRAVISgI just read the note about grouping by city and then alphabetically ........ wait a second I just realized that was about PSU15:32
TRAVISgBy the way if anyone wanted to brief me I would love to go with some one else to PSU or something like that15:33
TRAVISgI love meeting people and speaking15:33
bkerensaTRAVISg: I'm sure it looks fine and we are still planning a major wiki transformation that will result in that roster being moved to its own page15:37
bkerensajhmextern: Hello :)15:46
jhmexternhello bkerensa15:46
bkerensajhmextern: How are things going?15:50
jhmexternWe have a group of five people here in the coast, and we are looking for a place where we can do maybe a monthly meeting.15:51
jhmexternWe were thinking another event like an install fest, but we are still in the planing stage15:52
bkerensajhmextern: Oh excellent. In Newport right? Please do send some photos if you guys have a meetup and let the mailing list know so others might join in15:53

tgm4883yea21:19
tgm4883Didn't go so well :/21:20
bkerensatgm4883: I was going to mention that Canonical uhh has turned down a few really talented local folks21:21
tgm4883mrevell was pretty cool about it, sent me an email about 30 minutes after the call saying that he would have left my application open but since I already had another job offer locally he didn't want to leave me hanging21:22
bkerensaahh Matt Revell interviewed you? :)21:22

bkerensahmm :(21:23
bkerensayeah he is product manager for Launchpad21:23
bkerensa:D21:23
tgm4883Apparently there were more qualified candidates, although I'm ADV team working support for Symantec, so IDK21:23
bkerensaheh21:23
tgm4883There aren't many people above me in our support organization21:23
bkerensaThey turned down someone I know who is Senior Sysadmin for a major company here in Portland with a very similiar excuse21:24
bkerensa:D21:24
tgm4883yep, oh well. Guess that just makes my decision up for me21:25
bkerensaMind you he was applying fr a regular sysadmin job and just saw working from home as a perk to taking a small pay decrease and yet they turned him down21:25
bkerensa:D21:25
bkerensatgm4883: I think the foot in seems to be getting recommended by someone who is already work there21:26
sbeattiebkerensa: sometimes. sometimes not, it all depends on who's doing the hiring.21:26
bkerensalol :P21:27
bkerensa:D21:27
bkerensasbeattie: Well I know Canonical has some outstanding people working for them21:28
bkerensa:)21:28
sbeattiebkerensa: yeah, but it also has people like me working for them, too. :-)21:28
bkerensasbeattie: You don't consider yourself outstanding :P21:29
* bkerensa pings sabdfl :P21:29
bkerensaidk from the people I have met so far and some I have know over IRC for awhile I like the diversity and skill level21:30
bkerensatgm4883: I'm not sure why you want to leave Symantec except for maybe that they are outside of Portland right?21:32
tgm4883bkerensa, I'm driving to Springfield from Salem every day21:55
tgm4883:/21:55
bkerensaWow21:59
bkerensa:D21:59
bkerensatgm4883: Now I understand... Thats intense21:59
bkerensatgm4883: Doesn't Symantec have a location up here in Portland? I think one of the ORLUG guys works at it22:00
tgm4883bkerensa, we bought some cloud company up there22:51
tgm4883and we have sales in beaverton22:51
bkerensahmm22:51
bkerensatgm4883: Consider maybe trying to switch to the cloud division? :) I'm sure you're capable of sysadming right? :P22:52
bkerensaPuppetLabs is hiring too :D22:52
tgm4883most things I've looked at require some enterprise level experience22:55
tgm4883which I'll get at my new job22:55
bkerensahmm yeah22:57
