[01:11] kees, are you canonical? [02:36] tgm4883: Not anymore :) [02:36] He works on awesomeness :P [02:36] ah [02:37] Well I'm all moved into my new place :D Internet is working (Most important thing right?) [02:37] tgm4883: http://outflux.net/prof/resume.php [02:38] nice [02:39] tgm4883: But it would seem this channels Canonical numbers are increasing [02:39] :D [02:39] bkerensa, ah [02:39] * tgm4883 has a phone interview with canonical tomorrow [02:39] cweber10: Ping me and let me know what times and days will work best for checkins and mentoring for you [02:39] tgm4883: Dont tell me QA? [02:39] :D [02:40] nope, support [02:40] for launchpad it seems [02:40] tgm4883: Thats much better in my book :P [02:40] oh cool :) [02:40] Canonical needs more people on the LP team [02:41] I've also got an offer from the local community college, I need to find out what types of things canonical offers [02:41] tgm4883: Knock em dead. [02:41] I'll try :) [02:41] tgm4883: Well obviously I dont work for Canonical but I have heard of some of the stuff they offer [02:41] but I hear it differ per candidate [02:41] :D [02:42] all I've heard is competitive pay based on where you live [02:42] which doesn't say alot [02:43] tgm4883: might wanna ask albrigha (I'm not sure how much they can talk about their packages) he is a new hire but has been with the loco for a long time [02:43] D: [02:44] also [02:44] http://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/nm0n0/working_for_canonical/ [02:44] yea I've seen that thread [02:46] imho the biggest perk is you can work from home for most positions.... You get paid comparable (so I hear) the average for the position in the sector and you get to travel for sprints, uds.... I'm unsure about 401k, health etc in fact I would bet because they are international that they might just compensate you higher so you can seek those things on your own but thats a best guess :) [02:47] yea that was my guess as well [02:47] I mean it would be too complicated for them to establish HMO's and benefits in all the countries they have employees [02:48] I hear you get free premium U1 :P [02:48] bkerensa, I've heard you get free landscape [02:49] yeah [02:49] I hear its free services across the board plus you can pretty much request Ubuntu swag on demand to a level of reasonableness [02:50] I require a Ubuntu Jet! [02:50] heh [02:50] I think the company only has a Shuttle [02:50] :P [04:28] bkerensa: want to come advertise ubuntu oregon at psu? [08:36] I added myself to the Wiki and then did a little housekeeping just went by the note to have everyone in order of city by number of members and then alphabet let me know if I was out of whack I have never changed a Wiki before [15:15] blkperl: In what way and when? :) [15:15] Does it require a talk? :P [15:31] I don't know if it requires a talk? [15:32] I just read the note about grouping by city and then alphabetically ........ wait a second I just realized that was about PSU [15:33] By the way if anyone wanted to brief me I would love to go with some one else to PSU or something like that [15:33] I love meeting people and speaking [15:37] TRAVISg: I'm sure it looks fine and we are still planning a major wiki transformation that will result in that roster being moved to its own page [15:46] jhmextern: Hello :) [15:46] hello bkerensa [15:50] jhmextern: How are things going? [15:51] We have a group of five people here in the coast, and we are looking for a place where we can do maybe a monthly meeting. [15:52] We were thinking another event like an install fest, but we are still in the planing stage [15:53] jhmextern: Oh excellent. In Newport right? Please do send some photos if you guys have a meetup and let the mailing list know so others might join in [15:54] Yes, in Newport, as soon as we have an event or meetup we will send some pictures [15:56] excellent :) [17:43] anbody here? === xxx is now known as Guest24463 [17:43] This is TRAVISg [18:36] Hi TRAVISg :) === MarkDud is now known as MarkDude [21:19] tgm4883: Did you do your call yet? [21:19] yea [21:20] Didn't go so well :/ [21:21] tgm4883: I was going to mention that Canonical uhh has turned down a few really talented local folks [21:22] mrevell was pretty cool about it, sent me an email about 30 minutes after the call saying that he would have left my application open but since I already had another job offer locally he didn't want to leave me hanging [21:22] ahh Matt Revell interviewed you? :) [21:22] yea [21:23] hmm :( [21:23] yeah he is product manager for Launchpad [21:23] :D [21:23] Apparently there were more qualified candidates, although I'm ADV team working support for Symantec, so IDK [21:23] heh [21:23] There aren't many people above me in our support organization [21:24] They turned down someone I know who is Senior Sysadmin for a major company here in Portland with a very similiar excuse [21:24] :D [21:25] yep, oh well. Guess that just makes my decision up for me [21:25] Mind you he was applying fr a regular sysadmin job and just saw working from home as a perk to taking a small pay decrease and yet they turned him down [21:25] :D [21:26] tgm4883: I think the foot in seems to be getting recommended by someone who is already work there [21:26] bkerensa: sometimes. sometimes not, it all depends on who's doing the hiring. [21:27] lol :P [21:27] :D [21:28] sbeattie: Well I know Canonical has some outstanding people working for them [21:28] :) [21:28] bkerensa: yeah, but it also has people like me working for them, too. :-) [21:29] sbeattie: You don't consider yourself outstanding :P [21:29] * bkerensa pings sabdfl :P [21:30] idk from the people I have met so far and some I have know over IRC for awhile I like the diversity and skill level [21:32] tgm4883: I'm not sure why you want to leave Symantec except for maybe that they are outside of Portland right? [21:55] bkerensa, I'm driving to Springfield from Salem every day [21:55] :/ [21:59] Wow [21:59] :D [21:59] tgm4883: Now I understand... Thats intense [22:00] tgm4883: Doesn't Symantec have a location up here in Portland? I think one of the ORLUG guys works at it [22:51] bkerensa, we bought some cloud company up there [22:51] and we have sales in beaverton [22:51] hmm [22:52] tgm4883: Consider maybe trying to switch to the cloud division? :) I'm sure you're capable of sysadming right? :P [22:52] PuppetLabs is hiring too :D [22:55] most things I've looked at require some enterprise level experience [22:55] which I'll get at my new job [22:57] hmm yeah [23:49] Whats up y'all? [23:51] bkerensa what do you use for sound file converstion? [23:52] Hey every body I need something to convert wav to MP3 any suggestions? [23:53] http://www.jonathanmoeller.com/screed/?p=3360 [23:53] hmm of course [23:54] TRAVISf: sudo apt-get install soundconverter [23:54] :) [23:54] then see your sound applications section or on Unity search for Sound :) [23:55] That's what my early research pointed to thanks for the confirmation [23:55] I haven't been running unity been running gnome classic [23:55] I like the menu layout [23:56] and use synaptic still I like it better than the software center [23:57] TRAVISg: Classic on which release of Ubuntu? [23:58] 11.10 Oneric not sure if it is called classic but I think it is I had to install it [23:58] seperatly [23:58] oh you mean gnome-fallback-session? [23:59] Yeah I think [23:59] TRAVISg: Does it look like this: http://i.imgur.com/SUDeA.png
