astraljavaHey guys, we (as in Ubuntu Studio) want to do the similar thing with the ubiquity plugin as you, but now I'm failing to find the relevant branch of your project on LP, to have a better example for constructing ours.16:05
astraljavaI know of https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/precise/edubuntu-live/precise, but I understand that this is not the place where your devs tweak things, or is it?16:06
astraljavahttps://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu-seeds/edubuntu.precise <-- is that the place?16:12
astraljavaI suppose I could clarify my question a bit. I'm especially interested in those two .py files, that are in the ubiquity/plugins/ directory. Where do they come from? I can't find that branch anywhere, unless the first that I linked to is actually the one where the work happens.16:46
vivaHi. Help please! I have run a run a 32 client edubuntu network at Eden Campus, in Kartara, South Africa fro the last six years. Last year, we stayed at 10.o4, since the client processors needed 'cx8 and cmov' instructtions in the kernel. This year, we bought 5 new clients.17:01
vivabah17:01
vivaOK please help if possibele17:01
vivaI run a 32 client network in karatara17:01
vivaWe have used edubuntu for 6 years. And it is awesome17:02
vivalast year we stayed on 10.04, since the client cpus needed cx8 and cmov instructions (geodes)17:02
vivaThis year we bought 5 new clients, using ASROCK G41M - VS317:03
vivait has the X4500 graphics chips from intel17:03
vivaThe d...m things boot, get ip address, load image, and as the screen goes to graphics - it blanks out with17:04
vivaa flashing cursor..17:04
vivaThe new clients replace old faulty geode units.17:05
vivaQ: how do i get the new units to display graphics17:05
vivaand17:05
vivaCan I mix the new technology with the old on the client side network?17:06
vivaI imagine it is a 10.04 driver issue - since three variants of the mother boards behaved the same.17:08
highvoltageUDW Edubuntu session in #ubuntu-classroom in around 10 minutes17:19
highvoltagehey viva17:19
vivahi HV17:19
highvoltagewhere in SA is Kartara? I've never heard of it :)17:20
vivaNera Knysna. In the forests of the outeniqua mountains17:20
highvoltageaah17:20
highvoltageviva: have you checked whether you have an lts.conf file? perhaps it's hardcoded to use a specific driver for all the clients?17:20
vivaIts a small loogfer town historically17:20
highvoltage(I'll be back a bit later)17:21
vivaIts worth a look. Ill check after dinner.17:21
highvoltagegreat17:21
vivaty. any suggestions welcome at this stage.17:21
highvoltageknysna is one of the few parts of SA I haven't been in yet :)17:22
vivaSome say its the best part - ocean, mountains, gorges and ancient forests17:22
highvoltageI had friends go there for honeymoon earlier this month and they *really* enjoyed it17:23
vivaThey probably stayed at my place - I run Teniqua Treetops ;-)17:23
vivawere big on honeymoons17:23
vivaWhere are you located?17:24
viva?17:44
vivaHi, Voltage. There is only the example lts.conf /opt/ltsp/i386/etc.17:45
vivaNo screen settings, everything commented out. :(17:46
=== alkisg1 is now known as alkisg
viva^C test18:03
vivatest18:03
highvoltagestgraber: I mentioned weblive during our UDW session and it got some good feedback :)18:03
stgraberhighvoltage: cool18:03
vivahighvoltage: Client boots to blank screen after loading initrd.img . daemon.log says: tftp: client does not accept options.18:07
vivaNo lts.conf is present.18:07
highvoltagehmm, that doesn't sounds like a display related issue18:08
highvoltagestgraber: do you have an idea what could cause that tftp message ^^^?18:08
vivaIt happens on two 10.04 servers, and three different new MB, but not on 27 VXL geode clients.18:09
vivano, a google says to ignore tftp does not accept options -18:09
vivano idea18:10
stgraberyeah, I've seen that tftp message and it's indeed safe to ignore18:11
vivahi stgraber18:11
vivaThis relates to new clients on a 10.04 netowrk of clients using geode processors18:11
vivaFunny thing, if we plug an Nvidea small card into the mb, it boots fine.18:12
vivaDoesn't detect monitor size though, runs at 1024*768 max18:13
stgraberis the thin client responding to ping (you can probably find the IP address in /var/log/syslog)18:14
stgraber(unfortunately I really don't have time to help you debug this, we have alpha-2 to release by Thursday and people are poking me everywhere to fix installer bugs in Ubuntu ...)18:15
vivaClient gets address of 192.168.0.143 - (DHCPACK). Ping fails - destination host unreachable18:18
vivaSorry stgraber. But i am a bit desperate. 3 days.... this is bugging me.18:18
vivaAny clues welcome!18:19
highvoltageviva: do those machines have 2 network cards in them?18:20
highvoltage(ah never mind)18:20
vivaThe server has 2 nics. the client has 1 - 100mbs18:20
vivalol18:21
alkisg(08:12:38 μμ) viva: Funny thing, if we plug an Nvidea small card into the mb, it boots fine. ==> The same client works with an nvidia card but not with a geode card?18:21
vivaThe geodes work fine - 27 machines for 6yrs (VXL)18:22
vivathe new boards are ASROCK G41M -VS# with X4500 graphics on board18:23
vivaThey fail, unless we plug in a ge 220 nvidea ( ithink that was the model)18:23
alkisgSo these boards don't boot with the onboard graphics card, but they boot if you put an nvidia graphics card on them?18:23
vivaYes. And we tried it with 3 boards with the same chipsets - 2 ASROCK variants and a gigabyte - at the shop today18:24
vivathey all fail without an external card18:25
alkisgSo if it's a graphics driver issue, why are we mentioning tftp problems etc?18:25
alkisgJust try with a newer kernel...18:25
vivaBecause i can ping the client after it fails.18:25
vivaI cant use a newer kernel because of "cx8 & cmov" not in newer kernels?18:26
vivaor i don't know how anyway ;)))18:26
vivaCannot ping after graphics fail18:27
vivawe plan to replace the geodes next year, but dont have $ for 27 new ones this year18:28
alkisgYou can have different kernels for each set of clients18:28
vivaaaah. yesss. how? please!18:28
alkisgE.g. you apt-get install linux-image-generic-lts-backport-oneiric in the chroot to get the new kernel, chmod +r $CHROOT/* to make it readable, ltsp-update-image/kernels,18:29
alkisgand then all clients will boot with the new kernel,18:30
vivayes?18:30
alkisgexcept for those that you put special entries in pxelinux.cfg/01-mac-address18:30
alkisg(i.e. the geode ones)18:30
alkisg$ cat /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/01-00-0b-cd-c7-55-7718:31
alkisgDEFAULT old-vmlinuz ro initrd=old-initrd.img nbd_proxy=false nocompcache18:31
alkisgSomething like that18:31
alkisgCheck first that it works with the new kernel. Backup your /opt/ltsp too, in case you do something wroing.18:32
vivaOK. I am going to try that out - and see if i can get anywhere.18:32
vivaty, i will read up a bit too.18:32
alkisgIf the newer kernel isn't enough, you can even have different chroots, e.g. a lucid one and an oneiric one18:33
alkisg(e.g. if newer xorg bits are needed)18:34
vivammm. one step at a time for me ;)18:35
highvoltagestgraber: are these the images that need testing for alpha2 or are there new ones on the way? http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/edubuntu/dvd/20120131/18:52
stgraberhighvoltage: whatever is on iso.qa.ubuntu.com is what needs testing (unless they are marked as rebuilding). I believe they'll all be rebuilt for a kernel and some gnome-settings-daemon stuff (also unity-greeter apparently) but doing an initial test is always good and the delta (using zsync) won't be too big18:54
bmoez i'm working on project which it goal is to represent ubuntu as the official os in my country tunisia after windows xp ( for familar uses and education from primer school to professional school), but i didn't find yet a complet list of apps that will be used in all domain of education (phys, tech, maths..), and many apps are not available in .deb or .rpm formts (like salomé), So can i found help at edubuntu?20:39
