[00:57] philipballew: whats up [00:57] been a while since the last SD uh [00:58] want to plan a new one in the near future? [00:58] *help me plan, that is :P [00:58] or Darkwing, if you want to help too [00:59] i feel like for some reason... [01:03] kdub_, yeah, we took a break for dec and jan for holidays. I was thinking febuary. I was going to email the sd lug and see if anyone would come [01:04] is there a day that works for you? [01:05] Ive just been at school. Got my bike stolen last week. Found it this morning. Gonna have to put about 50 dollers work into it [01:06] Better then a new bike. [01:06] Hey Kevin [01:08] yeah, I think the bros at school were drunk and had some fun with it then stashed it [02:13] where in redwood city is LC again? [02:13] i guess the website probably says somewhere... [02:13] ah, sofitel. classy [03:03] Anyone about? [03:04] can someone ping server.wonderly.com and let me know if you get a ping? [03:04] 5 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 4030ms [03:04] nada [03:05] hmmz... [03:05] elizabeth@vespa:~$ nc server.wonderly.com 22 [03:05] SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.8p1 Debian-7ubuntu1 [03:05] so it's just unpingable [03:05] blocking icmp? [03:06] blocking httpd... Port 80 seems to be the only damn port... try ssh home@server.wonderly.com [03:06] yeah, that works fine (that's what I was checking with netcat) [03:07] Thanks. [03:07] Now I have to figure out why port 80 isn't being allowed. [03:07] server.wonderly.com should be working. [03:07] AKA localhost and any computer on the network. [03:35] can someone try http://server.wonderly.com:8010 [03:36] wfm [03:36] wfm? [03:37] works for me [03:37] Okay good. :) [03:46] howdy everyone... just made the transition from fedora to ubuntu [03:46] wondering if anyone here is from san diego county [03:47] hi lou_buntu, yep we've got some folks down that way [03:47] i hear theres a san diego ubuntu group... i think my friend kevin dubois is in the group... not sure tho [03:48] yep, kdub_ has helped with the ubuntu hours there [03:49] doing some embedded stuff at my current job... working with "gumstix" devices [03:49] philipballew: you were thinking of having the next SD ubuntu hour in february, right? [03:50] pleia2, yes mam [03:50] lou_buntu, where in sd you live? [03:50] pacific beach [03:51] i go to the same church as kevin [03:51] ok. nice! yeah, I live in Point Loma [03:51] oh no way... i work at the naval base in point loma [03:51] I go to PLNU [03:51] anti submarine and warfare something something... right next to the airport [03:51] oh man [03:52] do you know my coworker cris fairweather? [03:52] he graduated from PLNU computer science... last year? i think [03:53] yeah, I think I do. I am in that department [03:54] and its a small school [03:55] yea he seems to run into someone he knows everytime we go to lunch! [03:55] Point Loma is alike a small town [03:56] would you be interested in coming to a Ubuntu meetup? [03:56] lou_buntu: You active duty or, civ? [03:57] I live in IB [04:02] civ [04:02] yeah im absolutely interested [04:02] my friend and i have been wanting to surf IB actually [04:02] i work for saic but cris and i work on the base [04:04] nice! I talked to a guy from there the other day. The event can range from 2 too say 5 people. we have them once a month in the evening. [04:04] is that this sunday at 7pm? (re: the top of my screen when i joined the channel) [04:04] little different. thats our bi weekly irc meetings [04:05] oooh cool [04:05] lou_buntu: are you signed up on the Ubuntu Mailing List? [04:05] Rather, the Ubuntu California Mailing List [04:05] im new to linux, been using it since september. just installed ubuntu for the first time today... it seems way better than fedora [04:06] lets see here... ubuntu-california.org [04:06] ill sign up now [04:07] Awesome. :) [04:07] There will be a note there on the next meetup with date and time. [04:09] I can send something in the next week or so. It should start around 6ish probably [04:17] philipballew: we going to do it in hillcrest or, are we picking a new spot? [04:17] thats a good question. [04:18] Les see [04:20] I wonder if ob has a good linux base. We can use a the fight the power approach. Hillcrest is a good area. I wonder if parking might get to people there. [04:20] after we get it all set up, i was gonna email kernal panic as well [04:22] the hillcrest spot was good for the global jam in some ways [04:27] Yeah, i think it would be a good place... Or a bigger event. [04:28] I'm about to test Ubuntu within chroot on my tablet [04:28] see how that works. [04:30] okay, I'll throw the next few at a star bucks, or a panera maybe? What kinda tablet is it? [04:30] The eee Pad Slider [04:30] It's like the Transformer but, with a built in keyboard instead of a dock. :) [04:31] I emailed mikey saying what night he is good and ill do the same for kevin. Seems more practical with a keybord built in [04:32] yeah, it's a bit thicker and a tad heaver then a bare transformer but, it thinner and lighter then the transformer with the dock. [04:32] Let me know and I'll get up there. [04:33] * philipballew likes the thought of OB [04:39] I like the thought of IB but I'm the only one down here [04:40] :P [04:40] activity [04:41] IB is a nice place. [04:43] * philipballew hugs Ttech [04:43] yeah I love it but... no one else is down here [04:43] * Ttech rehugs [04:43] yay for hugs [04:47] Oh, this will be a project. [04:47] maybe Darkwing needs to look into meeting his fellow Kubuntu friends compadres across the border [04:47] hehehe [04:48] tj kubuntu hour [04:48] This weekend I'm going to build a kernel and rootfs for my tablet. [04:49] this weekend im gonna fix my bike. [04:49] You found it? [04:50] some people here do things other can relate to :) [04:50] lol [04:50] someone at my school did. Its in working order except for the lights and lock are gone and the piece holding the wheel to the frame snapped [04:51] so its a 40 dollar fix vs 250. [04:51] i ca get 40 in a little bit if I need. [04:51] 250 would take a while [04:52] damn [04:52] if I ever meet the person who took it I have a few words for them. [04:52] I would have probably let them use it if they asked... [04:56] I am fine leading out all my possessions, but I just wonder why someone wont ask [04:56] * philipballew thinks Ttech did it [04:57] :( [04:57] Its all true. [04:57] What are we talking about? [04:57] Bike thieves should be hanged, like horse thieves. [04:57] Stealing and destroying philipballew's bike [04:57] Hey akk [04:57] Ph [04:57] It was good to see you at SCALE again. [04:57] philipballew, Was that before or after the Mariot? [04:57] after! [04:57] hmm. [04:58] last tuesday night!!! [04:58] Was that the bike we were giving away at SCALE? ;) [04:58] lol [04:58] heh [04:59] im to poor for a car and to lazy to walk anywhere. but now i have to walk to ob and get parts for it. I know a guy there who can cut me a deal [05:01] philipballew, That sucks due. [05:01] dude [05:01] We should start a fund to get you a new bike! [05:02] well the bike i have still works, after I drop 40 bucks this week. but yes, you personally should buy me a new bike [05:02] all in favor raise hand [05:02] 0/ [05:03] I have some spare Kubuntu CDs if anyone needs them. [05:04] Somebody tell me why this circuit isn't working, even though everything checks out with the voltmeter the same as the other circuit that does work. [05:04] whoot kubuntu. :) [05:04] 42x Kubuntu 7.10 CDs. From the KDE booth at LUG Radio Live USA, if I recall. [05:05] 7.10 eh? :D [05:05] 7.10 ... maybe not quite so interested. [05:07] We could probably just give them out anyway, maybe no one would know the difference. [05:07] sell them on ebay [05:08] Some guy at the Redondo Beach swap meet sells Ubuntu thumb drives for $25 each. [05:08] not a bad idea [05:08] I need to grab my Ubuntu outfit and surprise him some time. [05:09] 7.10 disks? [05:09] Man. I'm still on 5.05 [05:09] can you dd ubuntu iso to flash drives these days? [05:09] Ttech: there is no 5.05. :) [05:09] philipballew: in the last two releases you can. [05:09] nhaines, 'twas a joke. :( [05:09] And by "last two", I mean "current and future". [05:09] Im still on red hat 2 [05:09] I'm still on 3.14159 [05:10] I'm still on Debian 1.0. [05:10] is actually on debian sid [05:10] doing some deb building this week in here [05:10] mmm sid [05:10] sid is too scary for me [05:11] goes along great, then suddenly something breaks just when you need it [05:11] Its kinda like running a server with 2.4 [05:11] it might work, or it might implode [05:11] yes there is still software that requires 2.4. [05:11] has a debian 6 and ubuntu 10.04 server [05:11] 2.4 of what? [05:11] kernel? [05:12] yes [05:12] kernel [05:12] 2.4 was fast [05:12] better performance on old hardware [05:12] im on 4.0 [05:12] but patching 2.4 to get modern features on modern hardware for old software seems kinda silly [05:13] yeah, it's not worth trying to run 2.4 with a modern distro and devices [05:13] I can't get 12.04 to run on my laptop. :( [05:13] I need to grab a spare drive, install alpha 1, and then do an upgrade. [05:13] And/or use that spare drive and install a daily with the alternate CD. [05:13] And/or buy a new laptop. :( [05:14] a new laptop sounds fun!!! [05:15] It would be, but I can't really afford it. [05:16] Hoping to save up and buy an Ubuntu TV. :) [05:16] nhaines, you got that beastly desktop tank [05:17] Except for the network chipset, it's really nice. [05:17] But that only showed up because my old motherboard died. [05:17] One really shouldn't have to buy a new laptop to upgrade Ubuntu. [05:18] akk: for preference, certainly. [05:25] Wish I could get a deal on an SSD at work. [05:26] I want an SSD too. [05:29] * philipballew still rocks pata [05:39] I have a 32GB SSD i'm not using. [06:38] Unfortunately, the current laptop is PATA. [06:39] I have a CF to PCMCIA adapter which makes a large CompactFlash card tempting, although I have no idea how fast that is and it would be really expensive. [16:40] nhaines: different CF cards run at different speeds, and some are not fast enough for the adapter [16:42] however, if you want to fully SSD your laptop, get an external SSD and pull it out of the case if the machine is SATA, and use CF to IDE if it's PATA [16:42] PCMCIA is slightly irrelevant in that case [17:11] DonkeyHotei: yeah, my laptop is PATA. But I was also thinking about just booting off the CF and using the HDD for storage. So in that case CF to IDE is a lot simpler. [17:11] But if it's not even booting precise, then that's a lot trickier... I'll have to try a couple things. [18:02] dragon, ping [18:02] anyone going to Jonos CD release party? [18:03] grantbow, should go [23:34] MarkDude: pong! [23:35] not going to the party -- I'm babysitting an underage kid.
