I approved him to -control ;-) [01:07] but never met in real-life [01:08] awesome [01:08] hggdh: jsut wanted to know if i could bother you with some logs from time to time :) [01:08] nothing major [01:08] RedSingularity: yes, you can, of course. You will just have to join the queue ;-) [01:09] lol [01:09] :-) [01:09] RedSingularity: seriously -- ping me when you need something (but not today, under a schedule right now) [01:10] hggdh: will do. I just run across logs sometimes that I dont understand. [01:11] hggdh: I dont know why i have never thought of bothering you about them.... [01:11] you have nothing better to do ;) [01:11] RedSingularity: I may also not understand them... but we can try together [01:11] LOL [01:11] :) === bladernr_ is now known as bladernr_afk [04:22] hey [04:22] is there anyone who can help me in fixing bugs in Ubuntu [04:22] I'm a B.Tech CSE student and wanna contribute to ubuntu [04:23] skill sets are C, C++, Java [04:24] there is a lotta useful documentation out there - that'd be the place to start cancer [04:25] have you looked at the ubuntu wiki? you'll find that pretty useful. it details how one should go about bugfixing [04:25] check out the topic of this channel, documentation link [04:26] yeah . I'm reading that [04:26] but .. I wanna know what does it require to fix bugs ? like C or C++ or Python ?? which IDE should I use ? where to get those source code from ? [04:27] i dont think you'll need an IDE. From what I've seen its mostly C, C++, python. [04:27] Details about getting the source code etc can be found at the wiki [04:28] also, join #ubuntu-classroom [04:28] and read the logs of the previous logs of the sessions that have taken place. [04:29] ok I will do that. And I wanna participate in GSoC 2012 via Ubuntu [04:29] what should I do ? [04:30] I wanna contribute to Ubuntu forever [04:30] Well, I'm not sure if Ubuntu'll apply for gsoc so cant help you out much, there. [04:31] I have seen there on wiki about GSoC 2012 . [04:31] they have displayed ideas page [04:31] it means they might apply for that [04:33] Probably, maybe they have a channel for that, im not sure [04:33] IRC channel i.e. === zodiac is now known as Guest61776 === bkerensa_ is now known as bkerensa [09:24] #list [12:26] hey guys, does the status "needed" for a (security)bug mean that its been triaged but is awaiting a patch? [12:27] i tried looking at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/BugTriage ; but im not sure. would be glad if someone could clarify [12:27] thanks in advance! [12:33] There is no such bug status in Launchpad - see https://help.launchpad.net/Bugs/Statuses [12:33] however this might be an imported bug status from external bug - see https://help.launchpad.net/Bugs/Statuses/External [12:34] i saw it here => http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/2011/CVE-2011-3618.html [12:34] eQuiNoX__: ** RESERVED ** This candidate has been reserved by an organization or individual that will use it when announcing a new security problem. When the candidate has been publicized, the details for this candidate will be provided. (http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2011-3618) [12:39] in anycase thanks roignac ! :) [12:45] well, that is not a 'bug status', but more like a 'fix required' status [12:54] i see, thanks again [13:27] eQuiNoX__: needed in the CVE tracker means that it is confirmed as affecting Ubuntu, and requires a patch [13:28] eQuiNoX__: typically you will see needed, needs-triage, pending, not-affected and released [13:29] ok cool, thanks a lot === bcurtis is now known as bcurtiswx === kalosaurusrex is now known as albrigha === Ursinha is now known as Ursinha-lunch === Ursinha-lunch is now known as Ursinha [16:59] anyone else see that the white text box in lightdm has become small and ugly? [17:01] brendand, yeah i have that problem too [17:01] actually it is not confined to lightdm, but to other application which have an input box [17:02] brendand, I do but there's an update of unity-greeter theming in light-themes 0.1.8.28. I was waiting this update before filing a bug. [17:02] I am waiting for an update on light-themes [17:03] jibel, and it only affects if using the Light theme? I went through all the documentation. [19:17] cancer: welcome. Did you read the links on the topic? [19:17] but didn't find where to find the source code [19:17] ? [19:17] yup [19:17] cancer: there is bug triage, and bug fixing [19:18] this channel is for triage; for generic help on fixing, there is #ubuntu-motu, #ubuntu-packaging (and the specialised channels, like #ubuntu-desktop) [19:19] yeah .. bug triaging is sort of prioritising bugs .. bug fixing is checking for errors in source code [19:19] sort of [19:20] I am very new to this .. so i think triaging will be new place to start with .. what do u say ? [19:20] I'm a B.Tech CSE student ..n my skill sets are C, C++, Java [19:20] triaging is finding (1) if it is a real issue;(2) what is the probable source of the issue;(3) if all needed documentation is available [19:21] the issue (if real) may not be code, but docs, etc [19:22] oh yes, add to triaging (4) reproducing, and steps to reproduce [19:22] if you are just interested in programming, this is really the wrong channel [19:22] ohhkk .. so where do u think I should start from if I'm interested in real bug fixing .. sort of coding [19:23] although I cannot see a programmer that does not understand triaging also -- they do exist, but they are flawed, IMHO [19:23] oopsss [19:24] cancer: the channels I pointed to above [19:24] thanks buddy .. :) === christoffer_ is now known as Christoffer === s9iper1 is now known as bil21al === tobin is now known as joshuaAFK === joshuaAFK is now known as tobin === kalosaurusrex is now known as albrigha [22:02] Is there a known bug with the network interface card Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708 ?
