goathouse774I'm trying to check my xubuntu iso after check sum.  Don't know how.01:57
goathouse774I should say, my burned iso01:57
well_laid_lawngoathouse774: there should be an option for it in the cds' boot menu when you load it01:58
ubottuTo verify your Ubuntu ISO image (or other files for which an MD5 checksum is provided), see http://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM or http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows01:58
goathouse774I went there.  It's too confusing.01:59
justakillanyone have any idea what my problem might be?01:59
well_laid_lawndo you have xubuntu-restricted-extras installed?01:59

Kingsy_guys, what vnc server is best to use with xubuntu ?11:25
Kingsy_vino ?11:25
knome!best | Kingsy_11:27
ubottuKingsy_: Usually, there is no single "best" application to perform a given task. It's up to you to choose, depending on your preferences, features you require, and other factors. Do NOT take polls in the channel. If you insist on getting people's opinions, ask BestBot in #ubuntu-bots.11:27
knomeKingsy_, x11vnc works too.11:27
Kingsy_hmm, well, check this.. I want to be able to run peripherals through it such as webcam etc. I also want it to be active at the login screen,.. so I can WOL my pc and log into the vnc server without being at the terminal to log in11:30
Kingsy_I vaguely remember having LOADS of problems with vino running before a user was logged in11:30

knomejustakill, the first launch is slow15:45

knomecharlie-tca, no, thunar is just symlink to Thunar afaik and that doesn't take time15:46

tomek_i have old 9.10 xubuntu and i dont know is there any mirrors update for 9.1016:20
charlie-tca9.10 is very old. It is no longer supported, and there will not be mirrors for it16:20
tomek_i need libreadline5-dev16:21
tomek_but i cant find it enywhere16:21
charlie-tcaMost releases are supported for 18 months. If you longer support, please switch to using the LTS releases, which are good for three years.16:21

tomek_i know 9.10 is old but i dont want configure it from beginning16:22
charlie-tcawell, I can't help then16:22
charlie-tca9.10 has not had any security updates since April 2011, so it may not even be safe to be using it16:23

tomek_there are no some archive packages anywhere??16:25
charlie-tcaOnce a release is declared EOL (End Of Life), it is no longer supported16:26
tomek_aaaa ok16:26
charlie-tcaI suppose there may be someone out in the world that has it, but there are no archives for unsupported updates16:26
tomek_i has this xubuntu since he came out and i realy like it because i dont have any problems ever16:27
charlie-tcaThe only suggestion I could make is to install 12.04 when it comes out, so you don't have to upgrade more than every three years16:28

profus2looking for a remote desktop client to connect to wts17:37
profus2any recommendations?17:38
holsteinxrdp... remmina does that too i think17:38
profus2xrdp rating is very poor though17:42
holsteini would open up a package manager and search "rdp" assuming that is the connection you are looking for17:44
profus2@holstein: that is what I did, but it did not turn out to be satisfactory17:46
holsteinprofus2: feel free and let us know what you have tried, and what you found to be lacking and why17:46
profus2@holstein: I tried Vinagre which is the default remote desktop viewer, but need more functionality e.g. connect local resources (smart card) to the wts17:51
holsteincool... and remmina ?17:52
holsteini personally wouldnt expect to fire up a proprietary VNC type server and expect an open solution to interface and integrate all the "extras" like whatever smart cards you are talking about17:53
holsteini would look into teamviewer, i would consider other open solutions for both server and client side17:54

xubuntu697So is there possibility, that there will be same bugs as there ere in ubuntu?18:06
xubuntu697I'm installing xubuntu now form my pendrive18:07
charlie-tcayes, depending on what is causing the bug, there can be the same bug in all distributions based on Ubuntu or Debian18:07
xubuntu697I had an issue on ubuntu, that my internet connection speed is to low hen i'm connected via wi-fi18:07

justakillholstein: i know it all worked in ubunut18:10
charlie-tca10.04 has it's own cd, why not just use that?18:10
charlie-tcaThere are many changes from 10.04 to 11.10. I would expect problems trying to do anything with 11.10 to 10.0418:10
xubuntu697I see18:11
xubuntu697thanks for support :)18:11
holsteinjustakill: cool... you should be able to choose it then.. in pavucontrol, or in the terminal in alsamixer.. check in alsamixer and make sure the levels are as expected, and trust no lables there18:11
charlie-tcathere are too many improvements in 11.10 for it to work with 10.04 at all. I would be very surprised if it had worked.18:12
justakillholstein: well everything is on full18:13
justakillholstein: in pavucontrol when i play a video or something you can see the bar moving but not for the other sound card18:13
xubuntu697So how i be able to install 10.04? I don;t have installation CD18:13
holsteinjustakill: i would re-double-couble check all the connections.. try other physical outputs18:13
charlie-tcaYes, 10.04 is still available and supported for another year18:13
xubuntu697or i should try burn iso to the cd?18:13
charlie-tcaIf you have the iso, you can burn it to cd18:14
charlie-tcaand install from that.18:14
charlie-tcaBut if you are already installing 11.10, might be better to wait a few months and upgrade to 12.04, which is also going to be supported for three years18:14
xubuntu697As i told, if i (i don;t if this word burn fit) burn the iso too USB drive and try to install, there's an error18:15
xubuntu697Oh, thanks for great news18:15
justakillholstein: okay was simple in pavucontrol i set the playback for my card18:15
holsteinjustakill: :)18:16
xubuntu697If so, I probably wait a bit :)18:16
charlie-tcaOh, sorry. I misunderstood. Yes, burning the iso to cd should work, but check the md5 sums first and make sure the iso is valid18:16

charlie-tcaIf the installer wants to remove a file when installing another, and you refuse to allow it, it usually makes a mess of things20:51
charlie-tcaIf the installer does not attempt to remove the file, normally, it is fine to have them installed20:51
recluseThank you, Charlie.20:52
recluseIt only gives me the choice of "cancel" or "install anyway".20:52

charlie-tcaI see20:53
charlie-tcaI think I would cancel, and run the install in a terminal using sudo apt-get install ???20:54

Unit193It's more verbose, yes.20:54
charlie-tcaI don't actually use the Software Center for anything20:55
