capslock286Hi. I'm experiencing some troubles at login on 12.04. Is this the right channel to request some troubleshooting, on? :-)01:11
DaekdroomYes, it is.01:12
capslock286great. anyone who would like to troubleshoot it? I am stuck using the Greek layout at login and my password is in latin characters - not in Greek.01:13
capslock286so I'm stuck using my guest account :-(01:13
Daekdroomcapslock286, you should file a bug report Oo01:22
capslock286thanks, but is there a work-around, for the moment? :-)01:22
DaekdroomI have no knowledge on that area. Someone else might, maybe if you stick around a little more.01:23

fairuzHi, I use local mirror (setup using apt-cacher) to upgrade a machine from oneiric to precise. I modified sources.list of this machine to point to the local mirror. My question is does after the upgrade, Ubuntu will do search and replace in the sources.list to replace oneiric by precise or will it create a new sources.list? Thus, the need to re-modify the sources.list to point to the local mirror after the upgrade. Thanks10:04
ironhalikso, wheres the beta? :P10:32
precisepangolinlubuntu 12.04 is okay for daily use?10:35
Tm_TI don't think such promise can be given before the release10:35

Tm_Tprecisepangolin: yes10:36
arand!final10:36
ubottuIf you install a development version of Ubuntu Precise and keep up with package updates, then you will be upgraded to the official release of 12.04 when it comes out. To make sure, type « sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade » in a terminal.10:36
precisepangolinthanks arand10:36
sagaciprecisepangolin, I've been using it for quite a while, so don't rely on a daily install if that's the only machine you have, or if you can dual boot it with a stable release10:48
glosoliironhalik: have you found beta cd somewhere in archives ?10:58
hithurHey guys, is it a good move/idea to simply run dist upgrade to use unity 5 to resolve issues I'm currently facing in unity 4.28? My unity launcher icons are abnormally spaced apart from other launcher icons, and they each have a progress bar on it. Even dash. The problem seem to appear hours after I installed pidgin-libnotify.11:12
hubxhithur, can you make a screenshot. But upgrading to 12.04 at this stage will certainly break other things11:25
hithurhttp://i.imgur.com/19nWL.png11:26
hithurThat's unity 4.2811:26
hithurEverything was perfect though :S11:27
hithurEversince hours after installing  something to do with gir1.2-unity-4.0,          or pidgin-libnotify,           that's when these problems appeared.        If I logout, then log back in, my launcher icons no longer appears, it would have this invisible effect, and in that screenshot, you would guess the launcher icons are misplaced where it's impossible to click on/doanything about.11:32
hithurThis affects all user account (so it's system wide, not just happening to one user)11:33

zzecoolfhsales: actually try to remove security for testing and retry12:09
zzecoolif it connect then you have narrowed your problem12:09
locsmifikonia: because the symptoms of the problem remind me of similar symptoms I saw when the problem had this cause. It's a vague, trial and error type approach, and it's a long shot.12:09

hithurIs dist-upgrade nothing more than simply changing and editing sources.list?13:22
Daekdroomhithur, no, it isn't.13:23
Daekdroomdist-upgrade isn't meant to touch sources.list at all.13:24
hithurThen what does dist-upgrade change to make it so it starts downloading next version stuff?13:26
Daekdroomhithur, dist-upgrade doesn't upgrade to the next version by itself.13:28
DaekdroomI mean, it probably will try (and break your system)  if you change the sources.list yourself.13:28
fairuzdudstep9: Can you just edit the wiki page and your submission there?13:28
wcchandlerwhen will beta 1 release today?  (obvious answer being "when it's ready")13:29

dudstep9fairuz: And that's what's puzzling me. It says to put the submissions on the page but I can't find a way on how to.13:34
fairuzdudstep9: When you say you don't have permission, is it when you are submitting your modification or when you click on the Edit button?13:35
dudstep9fairuz: interestingly, I don't find any edit button. I tried submitting by going to the drop down menu (labelled 'more actions') and selected load. That's what gave me the permission error. Sorry for being a wiki newbie.13:38

fhsaleshello people14:12
fhsalesi am looking for some information about wired and wireless connections on ubuntu 12.0414:12

philinuxfhsales: I think it's the same as 11.1014:12
fhsalesphilinux: Ok, i was just saying my version because people on ubuntu said that i should seek advice within this channel.so...14:13
philinuxfhsales: ah ok14:14
fhsalesphilinux: so, i finally got my wireless connection to works, but is seems way slower than my wired one.is there something i should do?14:14
philinuxfhsales: depends how far away the router is and how many walls the signal has to go throough14:15
philinuxfhsales: you could try a different channel number14:15
fhsalesphilinux: actually i am less than 2 feet my access pooint.14:15
fhsalesphilinux: which channel do you recommend?14:15
philinuxfhsales: there is no recommended channel. My router has 13 channels. Most are default to automatic14:17
philinuxfhsales: try starting at 1 and see14:17
fhsalesphilinux:  how do i change the channel on my router?14:17
ikoniafhsales: that is nothing to do with ubuntu14:18
ikoniafhsales: the router is covered by your documentation14:18
philinuxfhsales: mine is from firefox web browser 192.168.1.1 you need to check with the router manual14:18
fhsalesikonia:  my question was about how wireless connections worked on ubuntu.14:19
ikoniafhsales: yes, then your question was "how do I change my routers config"14:19
ikoniafhsales: that is not an ubuntu issue and is covered by your routers documentation/support14:19
fhsalesikonia: ok.14:19
philinuxfhsales: whats the router make and model14:20
jStefanHi, if I want to be notified asap of when beta-1 comes out (so that I can start my torrent download), am I in the right place?14:38
fhsalesikonia:  are you there? i have read that ubuntu really has a problem on wireless connections.what do you think?14:40
jpdsjStefan: No, subscribe to the ubuntu-devel-announce mailing list.14:40
ikoniafhsales: I don't think that's the case at all14:40
ikoniafhsales: no14:40
jStefanjpds, thanks14:40
fhsalesikonia: ok. when i connect with my wireless, i put the password, and it connects, but firefox is unable to open a page.what could be?14:41
ikoniafhsales: you've said that a few times,14:41
ikoniafhsales: I've told you I'm not going to support you14:42
jpdsfhsales: No problems here, talk to your ISP?14:42
jStefanfhsales, did you check if it was a dns problem?14:42
fhsalesjpds:  i will talk to them.but it does not seem to be their equipmente. when using windows 7 it works great.14:43
fhsalesjStefan:  how do i check that?14:43
jStefanyou could try visiting a site by it's ip, for example OpenDNS's status website: http://208.69.38.170/14:44
philinuxfhsales: when on wired with you laptop using ubuntu does firefox work ok?14:51
roastedis the beta on the daily build site?14:53
philinuxroasted: the iso's are labelled 1/3/12 so thats pretty  fresh14:54
roastedphilinux: thought so, I just wasn't sure if that was "the" beta or not14:54
philinuxroasted: beta is just a snapshot of the daily build so it's not anything other than a milestone14:55
roastedphilinux: I understand. I just specifically wanted to wait until beta 1 to begin testing it on some of our hardware here.14:55
philinuxroasted do you know about zsync14:57
roastedI don ot14:57
roasteddo not*14:57
UnknownFearNGHello all. I was wondering where I can install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and if I can still keep all my files?14:57
philinuxroasted: ok so you cd to the directory where you've downloaded the iso then use this zsync http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/precise-desktop-amd64.iso.zsync14:58
philinuxroasted: change it to suit your arch14:59
philinuxroasted: IIRC you have to install zsync14:59

philinuxfhsales: So to recap win7 wireless is ok and ubuntu wired is ok15:14
fhsalesphilinux: yes, this is it.15:14
fhsalesphilinux:  i did a dmesg -c and it is finding firmware error.says i should download the latest BIOS15:15
philinuxfhsales: I would delete the wireless entry and let is scan and set it up again15:15
fhsalesphilinux:  ok, how i do this?15:15
branantphilinux, how often is that current built?15:16
philinuxfhsales: right click on the networking icon choose edit connections. Wirless tab highlight your entry and delete it15:16
branant12hrs, 24?15:16
fhsalesphilinux:  did this.now i reboot the system?15:17
philinuxbranant: well they call it the daily build but I haven't checked. I just use zsync to maintain my iso file15:17
philinuxfhsales: hang on I'll just fire my laptop up15:19
fhsalesphilinux:  hanging :)15:19
UnknownFearNGHello all. Is it possible to install 12.04 and still keep ally files, or should I wait till it's fully released and update it?15:20
bazhangUnknownFearNG, sure, either way works15:21
TopGearHi. I've got a problem with Ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop. In Windows, my battery runs for at least 3 hours, when not even fully charged and with Aero powered on. Ubuntu (12.04 and 11.10) runs for a maximum of 1h and 30m when the battery is fully charged. And 12.04 does have all the latest updates, same as 11.10.15:21
philinuxfhsales: right I just deleted mine. On right clickinh the network icon I can see my ssid so you just click on it and enter your password to set it up again15:21
bazhangUnknownFearNG, always prudent to have backups on all systems, of course15:22
UnknownFearNGbazhag: How do I go about installing 12.04 and still keep all my programs?15:22
bazhangUnknownFearNG, this is an upgrade from 11.10?15:23
UnknownFearNGbazhag: yes, silly me lol. Should I install it via cd or from package manager?15:24
fhsalesphilinux:  did not work.15:25
bazhangUnknownFearNG, via the net : package manager; or alternate installer : your choice15:25
UnknownFearNGbazhag: sounds good, thank you for your help15:25
fhsalesphilinux:  look this pastebin http://paste.ubuntu.com/863581/  it says wlan not ready15:26
bazhangbazhag? :|15:26
philinuxfhsales: I know its daft but you have accidentally knocked the wireless button on the laptop?15:27
fhsalesphilinux:  HAHAHA. NO no, it is a PC.not laptop:P15:28
philinuxfhsales: and has the pc got a wireless dongle15:28
fhsalesyes, it is a wireless adapter. Elsys EWU-2n35a15:29
philinuxfhsales:  and the wired is unplugged15:31
fhsalesphilinux:  wired is plugged.should i unpliug it? i will try.15:31
philinuxfhsales: yes wired should be unplugged if you want to use wireless15:32
fhsalesphilinux:  hey16:12
fhsalesphilinux:  it worked for 2 minutes.but now it has got back to same old bad functioning.16:13
fhsalesphilinux:  wireless wont work.wired working just fine.16:13
philinuxfhsales: sound like your wireless dongle has a problem. I'm not a network guy16:13
philinuxfhsales: you can check it from a terminal with iwlist scan16:14
fhsalesphilinux:  ok. i do not think it is the dongle, because it works just fine with windows 7. i have read in another place that usb wireless works bad with ubuntu. i am thinking about buying a TP-link 300 N PCI card.16:15
philinuxfhsales: sorry I cant help. This might help you http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-troubleshoot-wireless-network-connection-in-ubuntu.html16:15
fhsalesphilinux:  you were of great help man16:16
philinuxfhsales: and this http://www.ubuntugeek.com/ubuntu-network-troubleshooting-tips.html16:16
fhsalesphilinux: thanks a lot.16:17

pace_t_zuluanyone know when the beta 1 images are going to be posted?16:44
glosolipace_t_zulu, they already are16:44
pace_t_zuluglosoli: could you share the link?16:45
pace_t_zuluthe links at the technical overview are broken16:45
glosolipace_t_zulu, wait will find it for you :)16:45
glosolipace_t_zulu, for AMD64 http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/208/builds/12794/downloads16:46
glosolipace_t_zulu, is what what you wanted ?16:48
glosoli:)16:49
FunnyLookinHatThey're still testing those ISOs I believe.16:50
FunnyLookinHatFor the Beta 1 releas.e16:50
glosoliFunnyLookinHat: Dunno, using that one atm16:50
FunnyLookinHat*release16:50
FunnyLookinHatRight on16:50
FunnyLookinHatYou can track the Beta 1 release stuff here: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/208/builds16:50
FunnyLookinHatThe new qa / iso tool is super awesome :)16:51
glosoliFunnyLookinHat: I am already running that one, seems to work :)16:51
FunnyLookinHatoooh cool :D16:51
glosoliI mean Beta 116:52
glosoliFunnyLookinHat: Do you know any proper way  to get GIMP 2.8 in Precise ? :D16:54
FunnyLookinHatAs far as I know - 2.8 isn't release.16:54
FunnyLookinHat2.7.4 is the latest development release - which - when complete - will turn into 2.816:54
glosoliFunnyLookinHat: Yeah< I understand that, but I want that 2.7.416:55
FunnyLookinHatOooh16:55
philinuxpace_t_zulu: Just get it here. There are no updates to my install today. http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/16:56
FunnyLookinHatglosoli, I'd try to find a PPA here ?  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas?name_filter=gimp16:56
FunnyLookinHatThat would be your best bet.16:56
TeTeTanyone with info on the buildbot can shed some insight on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/93305416:56
ubottuLaunchpad bug 933054 in apt (Ubuntu) "'.../libapt-pkg4.12.mo' is different from the same file on the system" [Undecided,New]16:56
TeTeTit seems to be a problem with multiarch and the bug reporter thinks that a broken gzip might cause the problem16:57
glosoliFunnyLookinHat: Already done that16:57
philinuxglosoli this might help http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=191310317:00
glosoliphilinux: had a look at that one already17:02
philinuxglosoli: ah ok you know as much as me then17:03
pace_t_zuluphilinux: ty17:04
glosoliphilinux: well yes :)17:04
philinuxglosoli: like it says ion their website. "GIMP 2.7.4 is a snapshot of current development towards GIMP 2.817:04
glosoliphilinux: yes, but I like it being single window17:04
philinuxglosoli: with the 2.7.4 you can switch it to single window17:05
glosoliphilinux: I know :) But I can't get 2.7.4 from any repo in Precise ;D17:05
glosoliWhy did I switch from Oneiric why :D17:05
pace_t_zuluphilinux: i assume that is the same image that will be the beta17:07
pace_t_zuluand if not ... i can just zsync it17:07
philinuxglosoli: ahh so the ppa wont work in precise. You jumped the gun early I run ubuntu on one drive and ubuntu+1 on another17:07
glosoliphilinux: hehe completely to early.. using it as a main operating system driving me nuts17:07
glosoli :DD17:07
glosoliphilinux:  maybe you know what's wrong with Qt apps in Preicse that they  are having more bold fonts ?17:10
philinuxglosoli: no soz not a clue17:14

SilverFoxIs the +1 for 'development/unstable release' ?17:21
glosoliYes17:22
glosolitopic says: Discussion and support for Precise Pangolin17:22
SilverFoxi saw that, just wasn't sure what the '+1' was about in the channel name.  Took an educated guess.  :)17:22
neglesaks+1 is for "like"17:23
glosoli;DD17:23
SilverFoxIs precise mostly bugfixes from previous releases, or are there a lot of feature enhancements that may introduce new bugs?  In addition to feature enhancements, are there also much in the way of kernel and hardware support changes?17:24
neglesaksAny word on when beta 1 will be available for torrenting?17:24
glosoliSilverFox: it is17:24
neglesaksPrecise is a LONG term support release17:24
neglesakssupposedly also adds better multi display handling17:24
glosoliSilverFox: a lot of things being changed :) For example they removed.. dodge window feature.17:24
neglesaksdodge window?17:25
yofelwhat did that do?17:25
glosoliyes17:25
glosoliyou know when you maximize window ?17:25
* yofel doesn't use unity, so not really17:25
glosoliit hides Unity Panel(somesay Dock)17:25
icerootSilverFox: normally a LTS will not bring many new things compared to the version before, the aim of LTS is a stable system17:25
yofelah, that17:25
glosolibut it stays perfectly shown when not maximized17:25
SilverFoxI'm trying to discern whether to take a shot at it now, or stick with oneiric on my macbook pro.17:25
glosolinow they removed that ability17:25
glosoliSilverFox: Stick.17:26
neglesaksoh,a nd happy 1st of March by the way17:26
glosoliSilverFox: If it's your main machine.. I did mistake :)17:26
SilverFoxiceroot: so, its more of a bugfix release.  Maybe I should try it, since there isn't much work being done on oneiric any longer.17:26
neglesaksah, the panel hiding was a bother imo17:26
icerootSilverFox: but remember its not stable atm17:26
glosolineglesaks: But now Max min close buttons looks ugly if panel is always shown and window is maximized17:26
yofelSilverFox: it does have new software versions and a new kernel though, so there's still breakage potential.17:27
neglesakspre-release software dshould NOT!!! be used on production/mission critical machinery, end of story.17:27
icerootSilverFox: and the next release 12.10 will do some major changes17:27
icerootmaybe the biggest change in the last 10 years17:27
SilverFoxiceroot: sure, but its mostly oneiric with some bugfixes, but not enough to be considered LTS stable yet?17:27
yofelfor LTS just the really risky updates are kept out17:27
SilverFoxwow...  thats quite a statement.17:27
yofeliceroot: do you remember if they want to give systemd a try? or just wayland?17:27
icerootSilverFox: e.g. in a LTS release you will NOT change big things, e.g. no wayland17:28
icerootyofel: 12.10 should go with wayland17:28
icerootyofel: maybe not as default but i bet as a preview17:28
glosoliiceroot: So they are putting wayland at 12.10 ?17:28
icerootand maybe btrfs as default...17:28
yofelyeah17:28
icerootglosoli: yofel just a guess about wayland17:28
PiciIts not stable because this is still the beta, not the release.17:28
yofeluh, I wouldn't use btrfs as default17:28
neglesakswell, there are tradeoffs. im personally lookign forward ot seeing how it looks once b1 is out17:28
yofelbut then again, I'll try it again for 12.1017:28
glosoliiceroot: I don't think they will put wayland and btrfs17:28
glosoliAnd I Hope they don't17:28
glosoli:)17:28
neglesakswhat is wayland?17:29
* yofel was waiting for lzo support in grub which didn't make it into 12.0417:29
icerootneglesaks: the replacement for the x-server17:29
yofelneglesaks: replacement for X17:29
neglesaksoh my, that WILL be big indeed17:29
neglesaksBring on the Wayland-Yutani jokes : Building better WIndows Servers17:30
glosoliit seems like they are always searching for smth new.. that's making ubuntu to look like not finished OS :)17:30
philinuxSilverFox: Scroll down to get a taste of the changes. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=186010217:30
icerootglosoli: software is never finished17:30
glosoliiceroot:  yes, but what I mean I say is that should decide to stick to some technologie and develope it as good as possible instead of picking another and another17:31
icerootglosoli: ubuntu is not developing x-server or gnome2 or something else17:31
icerootglosoli: ubuntu is using the software from other projects17:31
icerootmainly debian17:31
glosoliiceroot: they are modyfing things, it's a part of development17:31
icerootand even debian is not writing the x-server17:32
icerootand a replacement for the x-server is needed17:33
icerootand a replacement for gnome2 is also needed17:33
icerootbecause gnome2 is no longer supported y the gnome-project17:34
neglesakshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayland_%28display_server_protocol%2917:34
icerootso its not something bad that ubuntu (or other distros) are using newer software17:34
glosoliiceroot: I understand the gnome 2 replacement, because it's just version replacement not a whole project,  but whats for the X ?17:34
baronosIf perform the installation "Alternate Ubuntu 12.04 command line" and  after then install "gnome-desktop-environment", then the boot after the grub menu, occured "kernel panic not syncing: Attempted to kill init!"17:35
icerootglosoli: the whole networking-system from x is depricated17:35
glosoliiceroot: Aa ok, now I got the point :) Anyway, I would like to ask, do you get screen corruptions while logging into desktop ?17:35
glosolimainly happens for nvidia/ati proprietary drivers17:35
icerootglosoli: no17:35
glosoliiceroot: I have seen LIM has been included in Precise via gsettings17:36
philinuxglosoli: Yes with 8600gt17:36
glosoliphilinux: Ah, nice to hear I am not the only one with few others :)17:36
icerootglosoli: but i am not using gnome3/unity and no nvidia/amd17:37
glosoliiceroot: you are using gnome shell ?17:37
icerootglosoli: lxde (lubuntu)17:37
philinuxglosoli: it goes quickly though17:37
glosoliphilinux: well it does, but It drives me nuts to know that it exists :DD17:37
glosoliiceroot: aaa :) I am thinking of installing in my old pc and parents home, Intel Pentium 4, 768 MB Ram, but I am not sure that Geforce 440MX or smth like that will handle it17:38
glosoliat parents home''17:38
philinuxglosoli: not enough ram I reckon17:39
glosoliphilinux: not enough RAM for LXDE :O ?17:39
philinuxglosoli: soz lost track there17:39
glosoliphilinux: np17:40
icerootglosoli: my intel 8mb card is handling lubuntu perfectly17:42
yofelglosoli: lxde should work fine there, worst case nouveau won't support 3d on the 440MX - not that lxde needs that17:42
glosoliiceroot: HMm, then looking forward to trying it out on 11 years old computer,17:42
icerootglosoli: running it on 630mhz, 512mb ram, 4gb/, intel 8mb card17:43
glosolihah ;D that's a really solid DE17:43
glosolithen17:43
icerootits all i need, so strange 200watt gpus, no strange 8 core 150watt cpus, no useless 8gb ram and so on :)17:44

LDBHi guys, how do i install 12.04 LTS without X?18:10
pangolinuse the server iso18:11
LDBi downloaded this one: precise-alternate-amd64.iso18:11
pangolinwrong one18:11
LDBwhere is the server one?18:11
LDBi am thinking of the Beta18:12
pangolinhttp://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/precise/alpha-2/precise-server-amd64.iso  I don't think beta has been released yet18:12
LDBpangolin: Version: ubuntu-12.04-beta-1 Expected: 18 hours ago18:13
LDBis it delayed?18:13
pangolinI haven't seen an announcement made for it yet.18:13
pangolinuntil there is an announcement made for the release or that it has been delayed, nothing is official.18:14
LDBok i'll wait 2 hours, if it hasnt been released yet i install the alpha 2 :)18:15
pangolinLDB: you can install the alpha-2 and then regular upgrade will take you to beta18:15
LDBpangolin: thanks18:15
LDBpangolin: thinking of going from debian stable to ubuntu 12.04.. debian stable is too old now18:15
philinuxLDB: the desktop image is dated today but the server is dated 29th feb. Probably not many updates between that and the beta anyway18:15
philinuxLDB: My desktop install had only a couple of updates today.18:16
LDBphilinux: ok i will use the alpha and then update :)18:16
philinuxLDB: best way as the beat is only a snapshot anyway. Only a label really18:17
LDBthe only thing that will change between now and the final release are the packages?18:21
wtfdoggie22is the new beta coming out tonight?18:26
ActionParsnipwtfdoggie22: soon18:27
wtfdoggie22ah18:27
wtfdoggie22nice :-)18:27
philinuxwtfdoggie22: are you running precise on a test machine18:30
wtfdoggie22i plan on doing so18:30
wtfdoggie22starting with the beta18:30
philinuxwtfdoggie22: like we've been saying the daily build is good enough it's dated today and I've had no updates18:31
glosoliphilinux: wana hear funny story  ?18:32
glosoliabout skype18:32
MrChrisDruifOnly thing I am disgusted about is the recent keyboard combo change18:32
MrChrisDruifglosoli; always18:32
wtfdoggie22ok then, i'll probably install tonight18:33
ActionParsnipMrChrisDruif: what combo change?18:33
LDBwhen is ubuntu getting apache 2.4?18:33
glosoliOk, here you go. Made some post in forum, not answer from skype support, even created a thread was about 30 views and no answer. Somehow managed to asks the question if skype is going to be developed or not (because so long with no releases)  in Skype for Linux blog. I got an answer to check upper upper which states that it will be, and the comment was June of 2011 :))))18:34
MrChrisDruifActionParsnip; the one for changing virtual desktops18:34
ActionParsnipMrChrisDruif: as part of compiz you mean?18:34
MrChrisDruifFrom Ctrl+Alt+<arrow> to Super+Shift+<arrow>18:34
ActionParsnipMrChrisDruif: can't it be changed in ccsm?18:34
MrChrisDruifI read in the design mailing-list that it can, but I didn't have ccsm installed18:35
ActionParsnipMrChrisDruif: then you know what to do, problem solved..18:35
MrChrisDruifActionParsnip; Yeah, I know what I should do18:36
ActionParsnipMrChrisDruif: so why the disgust?18:36
MrChrisDruifBut it's more that the default/old combo shouldn't have been changed in the first place if you ask me18:36
ActionParsnipMrChrisDruif: easily changed though.18:37
MrChrisDruifBecause that change also affects GNOME Shell18:37
MrChrisDruifI don't know what the idea behind the change is in the first place...18:37
MrChrisDruifWhat ain't broke, don't fix it?18:38
ActionParsnipMrChrisDruif: no idea, i don't use multiple workspaces or gnome shell18:38
MrChrisDruifThat's the whole idea: "normal/regular" users don't even use multiple desktops to begin with, so why change it for those that do?18:39
philinuxMrChrisDruif: I just use the mouse to click the switcher icon.18:39
MrChrisDruifBecause those that do *KNOW* that it's very easy to switch to them with keyboard combo, I thought my installation was broken when I got the update on my machine18:40
MrChrisDruifI was lucky that I'm subscribed to the design mailing-list, otherwise I didn't know about the change18:40
neglesaksSKype is windows and mac only, essentially... just use ekiga instead18:41
MrChrisDruifAnd besides, I don't want to install ccsm just to restore a setting18:41
MrChrisDruifneglesaks; ever tried Ekiga? I didn't get it to work properly like skype18:41
glosolineglesaks: easy to say :)18:41
philinuxneglesaks: skype works great on my acer 141018:41
glosolineglesaks: would you mind convincing my 130 contacts   to use Ekiga ?18:42

branantThe entire day I was waiting for the official announcement of a beta 1 release19:09
ActionParsnipbranant: why?19:09
philinuxbranant: it's only a transition. The beat is just todays daily build19:10
branantIn the meantime I had a few beers so don't blame me, but I think this is as much as we are going to get19:10
branantSo lets start downloading these daily builds and installing19:10
LDBif i install the current 12.04, do i need to re-install when the final comes?19:11
ActionParsnipbranant: I haveit already. I had the alpha 1 installed and have upgraded. The difference between will be small19:11
branantI also need to compile a few libs for my Galaxy Nexus :-|)19:11
ActionParsnipLDB: no, you will upgrade seamlessly to the rc19:11
philinuxLDB: No just keep up to date19:11
LDBperfect19:11
branantActionParsnip, that worries me a whole lot19:12
LDBi am impressed with the boot speed, about 6 seconds cold boot19:12
philinuxLDB: people only usually reinstall if they've messed up the system tweaked this and that etc19:12
brananta month ago when i tried alpha not even chrome worked well19:12
branantand that's something I need all the time!19:12
ActionParsnipbranant: clean install or upgrade?19:13
LDBdoes onyone know if apache 2.4 will be in the final?19:13
branantIn the meantime I have recompiled the newest kernel for my Slackware-current19:13
ActionParsnip!info apache19:13
ubottuPackage apache does not exist in precise19:13
ActionParsniphmm19:13

nhainesbranant: if it makes you feel better, reinstall after April 26th.19:13
philinuxLDB: I doubt it as we've passed feature freeze19:13
ActionParsnip!info apache219:13
ubottuapache2 (source: apache2): Apache HTTP Server metapackage. In component main, is optional. Version 2.2.22-1ubuntu1 (precise), package size 1 kB, installed size 29 kB (Only available for any all)19:13
branantActionParsnip, It was an upgrade.19:14
ActionParsnipLDB: seems to be 2.2.2219:14
LDBtoo bad, we need that19:14
ActionParsnipbranant: possibly why19:14
branantWas there anything changed?19:14
ActionParsnipLDB: PPAs exist19:14

glosolijust download current daily build19:16
glosolithere has been no updates for two days19:16
glosoliI am already using beta 1 image19:17
glosoli:)))19:17
branantSo how do we know when it happens? He will post on G+, twitter...19:17

pangolinubuntu-annouce@lists.ubuntu.com19:19
branantpangolin, very well then!19:20
nhainesActually, the daily build has changed both yesterday and today.19:20
nhainesI use rsync to update it daily.  I keep an Ubuntu archive on my network drive here at work for myself and for colleagues.19:21
glosolinhaines: what have changed ?19:21
glosolinhaines: watching updates every hour :)19:21
nhainesglosoli: VLC and some other libraries from yesterday to today.  Donno about the day before.  The point is, the disc images were different and I downloaded 115MB to update each image.19:22
branantUbuntu really needs a changelog!19:22
glosolinhaines: VLC is not the distribution package19:23
branantHourly changelog with an RSS feed19:23
glosolihttp://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/208/builds/12794/downloads19:23
glosolianyway I am already running this one :)19:23
branantI will be happy to throw a few lines of code and create it as long as someone will update it on regular basis19:24
nhainesIt doesn't matter what you're running.  The daily build has changed significantly every day this week.19:24
branantglosoli, ok but I mean for civilians too :-)19:25
nhainesthe only reason I'm waiting for the beta is because I want to test the installer and they need to have a baseline for that.19:25
branantThey even find IRC scary, let alone the RSS19:25
glosolinhaines: installer hadn't changed or had it  ? just some bugs there still in the link I tested19:26
branantUnlike us who spent years in BitchX under DALnet ;)19:26
glosolibranant: BitchX and what's DALnet ?19:28
htorquehi all! i'm seeing 55 'dbus' processes spawned by cupsd (cmd '/usr/lib/cups/notifier/dbus dbus://') - is this normal?19:28
branantglosoli, that's a server we used back in the day when we played our music with MPC -- X-free desktop ;)19:29
glosolibranant: Ah I am not that old :DD19:30

branantHehe I used to laugh at that same comment just a few years back19:31
branantAnd now I am here telling the stories of the old days :)19:31
branantglosoli, your time will come so soon, that you will be surprised when kids ask you what's IRC :D19:32
glosoliOr will be telling stories how difficult in was to use Ubuntu some time ago while it will be super easy in the future19:33
glosoli;D19:33
branantLet's just hope so!19:33
branantglosoli, you would laugh if I tell you just a few years back I run outside the house in my boxers celebrating installation of my sound blaster under slackware 4.119:35

branantglosoli, video card was still miles away!19:35

branantThank God i had a US Robotics one :D19:36
glosolibranant: As My parent's hadn't have money enough, and my country in the selling system in my country was poor, I got my first personal pc in about 1999 or 200019:37

urfr332gO!windoze20:17
ubottuPlease don't use silly misspellings to denigrate other operating systems. It makes users of that system feel attacked and hurts Ubuntu advocacy by making the community look unreasonable.20:17

fhsalesglosoli: At first, i instaled the lucid linx version on my pc and the usb adapter would not work.after many tries, i instaled the ubuntu version 12.04 and it recognized the adapter. But even though sometimes i am able to conect, i am unable to open a page on internet.20:29
virunganeglesaks, thanks, after the installation of the beta 1 can i upgrade to beta 2?20:30
fhsalesglosoli: the adapter is working, i tested it on another PC. and on ubuntu, the blue led keeps flashing, meaning there is data transfer. but i cant open a single page. i am asking because many people seems to have problems with this particular adapter.20:30
glosolivirunga: you can to beta2 to rc and to full :)20:31
glosolifhsales: tryed pinging some pages ?20:31
urfr332gOvirunga, if you stay udated you will be there.20:31

fhsalesglosoli:  YES. i can connect wireless in windows 7. with the adapter. And i can connect wired only in ubuntu, in this computer.but i cant seem to make this adapter work on ubuntu.20:40
glosolifhsales: aaaa, sorry, don't know then20:40
fhsalesglosoli:  Thanks. i am asking here because MANY people talk about the bugs on this specific adapter, realtek 8188SU20:41
glosolifhsales: you could report a bug, but it might be just unsupported by ubuntu hmm20:41
fhsalesglosoli:  i see.thanks anyway.20:42
glosolifhsales: I mean the maker of the adapter might not support it for ubuntu, well I'd recommend to try forums20:42
fhsalesglosoli:  the maker really does not support ubuntu.20:43
glosolifhsales: anyway, try Forums :)20:43

Ubi_DaX!desktop20:50
ubottuA desktop environment is what "puts the pieces of a !GUI together". The available desktop environments in Ubuntu are !GNOME (ubuntu-desktop), !KDE (kubuntu-desktop), !Xfce (xubuntu-desktop), IceWM, !Fluxbox, WindowMaker (wmaker), FVWM and others - See also !Flavors20:50

urfr332gOglosoli, depends on your needs I started with open source dapper it was and always have used some open source as a daily, usually a ubuntu release.21:30
glosoliurfr332gO: Well most of the times depends on the hardware.21:31
urfr332gOglosoli, suppose so I have found all mine run on the generic drivers in general, but I don't buy stuff that wont run open source.21:32
glosoliurfr332gO: from now on I will do the same probably :) Unless they will make some really really bad changes in 12.1021:32
urfr332gOglosoli, I stared with a place called fregeek where I live all there computers run ubuntu longtrem releases.21:33
urfr332gOfreegeek21:34

nhainesYay, it's beta!21:52
nhainesI am disappointed that ubuntu.com updated before ubuntu-announce did, but oh well.  :P21:52
micahgwhy, I would think it's standard to update infrastructure before an announcement21:53
nhainesmicahg: I was hoping for simultaneous release.21:54
nhainesI always just worry about the mirrors more than anything else.21:54
nhainesExcellent, now my local mirror is updated and the announcement has gone out to coworkers.  :)22:03

ironhalikjohnjohn101: http://ubuntu.com22:34
mhsyhi, i am testing ubuntu 12.04, in unity. Many applications frequently do not appear in the alt+tab list, even if they are on the same workspace. Instead, I get the arrow pointing to the launcher (as opposed to the triangle).22:35
johnjohn101ironhalik: is owncloud only available in kubuntu?22:35
yofeljohnjohn101: it's in the archive (universe), so available for everyone22:36
