Pheetardhey all00:03
Pheetardi've jst come back to ubntu (oneric) after a few years back in windows (7, since beta), and it sure is different from how i remember it (intrepid). not jst the interface, i mean i knew about gnome3/unity,  but what happened to xorg.conf?00:06
Pheetardit seems to have been replaced by some kind of automagic configuration00:07
Pheetardwhich is annoying, because i want to change the graphics driver on my laptop (Gallium's giving me god-awful 3d performance on this laptop's Radeon X1200) but can't find any way to manually configure xorg's video driver00:13
Pheetardis there a way to tell it to use "radeon" instead of "gallim3d" does anyone know?00:17
ali1234just make an Xorg.conf00:17
ali1234it still works00:17
ali1234it just isn't needed by default00:17
Pheetardoh, right00:18
ali1234if you install the fglrx driver it makes an xorg.conf00:18
ali1234then you can edit it however you want00:18
ali1234well, it used to anyway00:18
Pheetardif it does it by magic, can i just write one from scratch with just the sections i want to customise?00:23
ali1234probably, if you know how to do that00:27
ali1234you can have very minimal configs00:27
Pheetardexcellent00:29
Pheetardthanks very much00:29

zleapis there a ubunt program equivalent to power point viewer?23:33
zleapsorry just correcting spelling23:33
mgdmlibreoffice?23:37
zleapi mean like powerpoint viewer is just a viewer,23:37
mgdmI would guess not23:37
zleapwhere as libreoffice impress is presentation software23:37
zleapok23:37
zleapok so rasp PI  + impress + tv  = ability to display stuff on a tv like a presentation with results / events / fixtures etc23:38
zleapwhich is what my local rugby club want,  just want to do this in as little memory as possible really23:38
AlanBellzleap: you can export a presentation from impress23:38
mgdmI've given up using Impress or whatever for presentations, I write them in HTML (well, Markdown, but converted to HTML) and then a full-screen browser23:39
mgdmmight be one to consider23:39
zleaplatex+beamer23:39
zleapcould be anoter way23:39
zleapbut it would have to be easy for club people to edit,   eitehr that I will teach the kids how to do it,  and they can help23:39
mgdmif you do it in HTML it can be hosted on a site and updated remotely (which may or may not be good)23:39
zleapssh23:40
zleapi guess23:40
AlanBellzleap: try the flash, pdf and html exports from impress23:40
zleapso plug in ethernet and do it that way23:40
zleapok23:40
zleapAlanBell, so using htmkl i just get it to load a new page every say 2 mins23:40
AlanBellI think it might do the transitions in the exported html if you put timings in the presentation23:41
AlanBellor it might not. It could do.23:41
zleapah ok23:41
zleapwill look in to it when i manage to get one23:41
AlanBellif it doesn't then file a bug :)23:41
zleapok23:41
zleapall i need to do then is convince the club to buy one,23:42
AlanBellpersonally I think the raspberry pi is too interesting to stick on a wall23:42
zleapAlanBell, yeah,  but its better than having a huge pc sitting in the club house,23:43
AlanBellwell I suppose now they have continuous production it doesn't matter23:43
zleapits a solution to what they want,  that is cheap23:43
zleapyeah,23:43
Azelphurwhere can you order the raspberry pi btw? I notice some people are ordering it but their site is all messed up23:43
zleapi will use it for programming and stuff at home,  i was just thinking about the rugby club23:44
AlanBellyeah, when they were doing a 10k run for the public then trying to do the educational runs it would be a bit wasteful, but now they are doing licensed production it is a nice cheap solution for interesting embedded things23:44
zleapi think it has lots of potential23:44
zleapin the right hands23:44
AlanBellAzelphur: two places, I ordered from Farnell23:44
AlanBellhttp://www.raspberrypi.org/ links at the bottom of the page23:45
zleapAlanBell, perhaps as i suggested before,  i can use it to run open areana server, whichfor this presentation thing, it could run that in the background so anyone at rugby clubwitha laptop canplay open arena via a local server23:45
AzelphurAlanBell: it only says register your interest now! ?23:45
AlanBelltry the other one http://www.element14.com/community/groups/raspberry-pi23:46
Azelphurthey both do :P23:46
AlanBelloh, so it does23:46
AlanBellI expect there will be more production soon23:48
zleapi think the are building to order23:49
AlanBellno, they are building to meet demand, which is slightly different23:49
AlanBellthey can fund continuous production now23:49
zleapwell hopefully i can take one of thse into this computer group i am starting and get a few more sales for em,  thats assuming some of the kids at the group don't already have one23:49
AlanBelland they have two licensed (and quite surprised) manufacturers23:50
zleapby the time it starts that is23:50
