[00:35] Um, a little help here please? http://pastebin.com/V04WEPBG [00:40] Halexander9000: ill just paste this from earlier [00:40] 11:25 < holstein> Halexander9000: looks like the x11grab is the issue [00:40] 11:25 < holstein> what are you trying to accomplish? [00:40] 11:26 < holstein> http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/ffmpeg-x11grab-unknown-format-522296/ [00:40] 11:27 < holstein> http://soledadpenades.com/2010/04/26/unknown-input-or-output-format-x11grab-ubuntu/ [00:41] i would go at it the same way with Unknown option "--enable-libfaad". [00:41] Oh, hello holstein. It's another problem. But I don't think I need to enable that library after all. I read the --help option in the mean time. [00:42] The "make" command is now in progress. I think your second tutorial is the one I followed. [00:42] Hopefully everything should work out as planned. [00:42] Now all I have to do is wait. [00:46] holstein: I'm trying to find a suitable screen recorder for my machine. So far, gtk-recordmydesktop creates a wonderfull .ogv file, but I can't seem to edit or convert it no matter what I throw at it. So ffmpeg was suggested as an alternative screen recorder. [00:47] holstein: I appreciate your help, and I hope you can still offer advice if I have other problems along the way. Thank you. [00:48] Halexander9000: i would ust gtk-recordmydesktop [00:48] im still not sure what the issue is [00:48] i would hit the mailing list with that issue [00:49] What's this mailing list you speak of? [00:49] Halexander9000: the ubuntustudio one [00:49] any support mailing list though [00:49] I'm not using ubuntustudio. [00:49] Halexander9000: cool [00:49] i dont really care what you are using [00:49] what im trying to tell you is where i think you are more likely to find help [00:49] and that aint here [00:49] Hmm... alright. I'll see what I find. [00:50] and this is literally the first issue i have heard about gtk-recordmydesktop *not* working [00:50] so, i would tend to lean toward suggesting that you troubleshoot that issue [00:50] since, also, it seems that the issues you are having are with something on the backend [00:50] seems like you will have these issues regardless of what you use [00:51] i would try the 12.04 live CD.. i would try other live CD's [00:54] holstein: It's not that gtk-recordmydesktop is not working, it's working wonderfully. My machine just has troubles processing the file. I tried Kdenlive and OpenShot and both don't even display the file properly in the preview window, much less render a file that doesn't have a heavy dose of video artifacts. [00:54] Halexander9000: i hear you.. but i think you'll have those issues with *any* file [00:54] and you should try and do that.. obtain some files you didnt create, and try dealing with them [00:55] try different live CD's is really my top-most and easiest suggestion [00:55] I tried converting it into something more manageable, but no matter what converters I use, the result is still riddles with those blasted scrambled tetris pieces cloging my text and edges of objects. [00:55] right [00:55] so stop converting [00:55] holstein: But I've just setup my system... [00:55] just obtain other files that you did not create [00:56] Halexander9000: cool [00:56] with other live CD's, you will be seeing different graphics drivers in use [00:56] I'll see if I can edit other files. [00:56] different kernels... it literally cant hurt anything [00:56] In case you're wondering , my machine is a stock ASUS EEE PC 904HD from 2008. [00:57] yup [00:57] and i wouldnt *ever* expect my EEE to do anything with video [00:57] and i have 2gb's of ram [00:57] Why? [00:57] its not made for that [00:57] and its too light on resources [00:57] What's the big deal? [00:57] Halexander9000: ? [00:57] you tell me? [00:58] its not working properly, correct? [00:58] thats pretty much what i would expect trying to do *anything* like that on my machine [00:58] it wont play HD vids smoothing anywhere [00:58] and thats just not what its for [00:58] i think if you had a bigger machine, it would not be choking on it [00:58] But, it does record my screen quite fine. Why can't I edit a bally .ogv file? [00:59] Halexander9000: it cant becuase its underpowerered [00:59] And I only used a 640 by 480 screen resolution. It's far from hd. [00:59] Halexander9000: i would do *very* low quality mpegs [00:59] or do it on another machine [00:59] I don't have another machine at my disposal. [00:59] i just dont, nor will i ever expect to edit video locally on this machine [00:59] Halexander9000: cool [00:59] i would just upload it to youtube and deal with it there [00:59] or some other online service [00:59] And my resolution won't go down further. [01:00] OR, step the quality down [01:00] OR try live CD's [01:00] til you get something light enough to deal with it [01:00] but i woudnt expect to ever see video on the screen like that [01:00] holstein: The ironic thing is it uploads to youtube just fine. [01:00] Halexander9000: correct [01:00] theres *nothing* wrong with the video [01:00] the machine just cant play it [01:01] in any form [01:01] you wont be able to watch it to edit it [01:01] you cant preview [01:01] but, its there... [01:01] But I can watch it. [01:01] Halexander9000: OK [01:01] maybe in VLC or somthing [01:01] Yes. [01:01] im talking about to edit it [01:01] That's a problem. [01:01] yup [01:01] and i woudnt expect this machine to handle that [01:02] BUT, you can try other live CD's or whatever [01:02] So, you're saying I should instead rely on Youtube's video editing capabilities? [01:02] Halexander9000: i would [01:02] i would *not* want to edit video on my EEE [01:02] ever [01:03] holstein: I've been through so many distributions, I'm frankly sick of trying. I feel most comfortable with Ubuntu. I'm using the LXDE desktop manager, and I'm quite happy with it. [01:03] yup [01:03] its not the distro [01:03] that why i suggest just trying it live [01:03] so you can find out without breaking anything [01:03] its the EEE [01:03] its not made for that [01:03] ive tried [01:04] I [01:04] i dont do audio on here unless i have to [01:05] I'll consider testing the live cd of Ubuntustudio after I'm done watching season 3 of Fringe on my machine. [01:05] I routed my speaker line into the microphone input so it records the game sounds. [01:05] Halexander9000: cool.. doesnt matter what you do thought.. accepting that the machine is no capable is the best thing you can do [01:05] Manually, with a cable. [01:05] though* [01:06] Halexander9000: i used to do that [01:06] But I thought all computers can process everything, the only difference was how much it took to do so. [01:07] sure [01:07] and it will "process" it fine [01:07] you just cant see it doing it [01:07] it doesnt have the balls to show it to you while its doing it [01:07] I admit it was a naive view on things from my part, but it seemed to be that way when I used Windows. [01:07] and it never will [01:07] Halexander9000: fire up windows then [01:07] i think you'll see its just not what the machine is made for [01:07] you can try avidmuex [01:08] http://avidemux.berlios.de/ [01:08] It get's clogged with more trash that my room. I don't want to use a computer if it's not running at maximum efficiency. [01:08] i found it really light back when i used windows on machine higher and lower powered than what we are talkinb about, before i started running linux on a machine like what we are talking about [01:08] anywasy.. gotta run. [01:09] bye [03:46] Does a Ubuntu-Studio Beta drop tonight? I'd like to help test precise on my netbook but it's just a small dualcore so maybe I should help with mainline Ubuntu release instead [03:50] ...Just since it's not ideal for audio performance. But maybe that doesn't matter. [03:53] tehowe: i would just search for the dailies... you can get more involved if you'd like though... try in #ubuntustudio-devel first [03:55] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/ISO/Procedures [04:01] Thanks, holstein. Maybe it's purely psychological but I was waiting for us to pass that 'beta' milestone b4 putting Precise on my sidearm, since I do use it for 'production', if you count browsing online and using Libre office [04:02] tehowe: they have to be officially tested to be accepted [04:02] ive been busy :/ [04:03] oic. no worries. [04:04] otherwise, theres a schedule, and the images build automatically AFAIK [04:04] things break... we (meaning mostly ScottL) fix them [04:13] Well kudos, there's a lot of extra moving parts in a Studio release... looking fwd to it
