Unit193Specs?02:13
moesThe o/s info reads ubuntu-10.1002:14
EruadanUnit193, that purge worked, now gimp works, thanks. I would like to change the settings of the double click to 1 click to open things02:15
Eruadanabout my mouse now02:16
Unit193Eruadan: If you look at Edit > Preferences while in PCManFM, you should find it.02:25
Unit193moes: That's just that boot screen, what about it?02:25
Unit193As long as you picked up the right one, I don't see the problem.02:26
Unit193Other than using an outdated version.02:26
moesThat boot screen is the purple Ubuntu-10.10...In a high end pc it is the correct boot screen and o/s info02:27

uffohello, i try Lubuntu lastest daily 12.04 build and do you know why mounting drives and connecting to internet wants system password. Is this temporary bug. Thanks.10:30
uffois anyone currently live here?11:28
matt__yeah uffo11:29
matt__uffo, you have installed libpam-gnome-keyring ?11:31
matt__if you have this package installed, you should have the option in the password dialog to save the password11:31
uffomatt__: no lubuntu wants system password for internet and hdd mounting, it should be rootless like other ubuntus11:47
matt__did you even read what I said?11:50
matt__oh sry11:50
matt__I misread, sry11:50
matt__yeah...then dont know11:50
UnknownCoderhi, i want to install lubuntu on an external usb-hdd. i have read some articles about it and it sounds not difficult. but one question i allredy have12:05
UnknownCoderis it really necessary to unplug/deactivate the internal hdd?12:06
UnknownCoderi thought that if i install it to the external drive there will be no changes to the internat one?12:06
head_victimUnknownCoder: no, but it's recommended to ensure you don't accidentally install grub to the wrong hdd.12:06
UnknownCoderor have i to expect problems with that12:06
UnknownCoderhead_victim, ok so only i can make the failure myself12:07
head_victimIf you install grub to the wrong hdd then you can possibly (or even probably) loose data on the internal hdd.12:07
UnknownCoderyeah ok i get that12:07
UnknownCoderbut there will be a question before installing grub where i can choose manually on which hdd or aprtition i want to install grub12:07
UnknownCoderthere will nothing be installed automaticaly12:08
UnknownCoder?12:08
head_victimTo my knowledge that's the only reason, but if you want to be certain I'd email the ML.12:08
head_victimUnknownCoder: I'd make sure you select the manual partition selection just in case.12:08
UnknownCoderok i just want to know it because it doesn't seem very linux-like to overwrite some data without my explicit command ;)12:09
UnknownCoderbut in this case i will unplug the hdd just to be sure, cause its my working pc ;)12:09
UnknownCoderthank you for the fast answers :)12:10
head_victimI haven't installed in so long I can't recall what the options are off the top of my head. There is porbably a walk through online somewhere to confirm there are questions about it if you like12:10
head_victimUnknownCoder: no worries mate, you're lucky you caught me, I'm just heading out :)12:10

E3D3I swapped Ctrl and CapsLock keys with a .xmodmap but can't load it when booting. I tried editing '/etc/x11/xinits/xinitrc', made different '.initrc' and read Lubuntu FAQ & workarounds. Should I continue learning more about xsessions, autostart a shell-script or look for a more straight solution. Can anyone point me in a helpfull direction ?16:05
SentynelE3D3: I use a shell script that just runs xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap, and is autostarted by my DE16:09
E3D3Sentynel: I thought about that to but on the FAQ page is only an example of autostarting an application. How do I autostart a shell-script ?16:11
SentynelE3D3: well you ought to be able to tell it to autostart an application and give it the command xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap16:12
SentynelI've not done it on LXDE though16:12
E3D3I have no .xsessionsrc but if I read well its not for commands, nor is /etc/envirement.16:12
E3D3Okay, this is my 1st time I try to use LXDE seriously. Still thanks for trying.16:14
E3D3I just discovered #lxde and I'll ask there.16:15

guntbertis there anything (except reboot) you can do against the notification area in the panel sliding towards the left side with time (or with suspend/resumes)?20:45
pAt_yes, remove the update watcher from the panel, guntbert20:49
pAt_from the files to be started automatically with the system start I ment20:50
pAt_that did it for me guntbert20:50
guntbertpAt_: bear with me, I installed lubuntu-desktop on an ubuntu system, so where would i do that?20:51
pAt_same here guntbert20:52
pAt_in the desktop settings, you can choose which programms to be started automatically20:52
pAt_and remove the update maganager from the files to be started automatically20:53
guntbertpAt_: desktop preferences? no...20:53
pAt_I have it in German, I think it shold be that, yes20:54
guntbertpAt_: when I right click on the desktop and select "preferences" I don't get any option to choose what files should start20:55
pAt_from the start button left bollow, in the setting menu20:56
guntbertpAt_: und so wenige leute wie hier sind, können wir auch deutsch reden :-)20:56
pAt_:)20:56
pAt_ok, dann in Einstellungen im Menu20:56
pAt_dort Desktop-Sitzungseinstellungen20:57
pAt_Automatisch gestartete Programme20:57
pAt_äh Anwendungen20:57
guntbertdas hab ich nicht ??20:57
micahggilir: FYI, you have upload rights for gdebi again (I got it demoted)20:57
pAt_Du hast aber den Menupunkt Einstellungen wenn du auf das Lubuntu Symbol klickst, okder?20:57
guntbertjo20:58
pAt_dort gibts doch Desktop Sitzungseinstellungen, odeR?20:58
guntbertpAt_: eben nicht - ich schau mir gerade das menu selber an20:59
pAt_seltsam20:59
gilirmicahg, thanks :) But I'm not sure I'll ever touch this package :)21:00
micahgok :) lubuntu was the only thing using it21:00
pAt_gerne :)21:06
codepalhey guys - lubuntu's ldm login doesn't allow me to login without a password21:36
codepalI just created a bunch of users with automatic login status21:37
codepal& it won't log them in, asks for password then doesn't21:37
guntbertcodepal: only one user can have that status21:37
codepalyet in a terminal ( ALT - CTRL - 3 )21:38
codepalI can login21:38
codepalwithout passwords21:38
codepalguntbert, why the restriction?21:38
codepalI'm setting up a kids laptop, I want this a simple as possible...21:38
codepalany hack to disable that restriction?21:38
guntbertcodepal: then give them empty passwords, or teach them to use just 1 key - the automatic logon i the display manager is meant for 1 user to run through21:40
guntbert*in21:40
codepalok, ok21:40
codepaluser switching doesn't have this problem I suppose?21:41
guntbertcodepal: no idea, I never tried that - best you educate them to rally use passwords (simple as they may be yet)21:42
guntbert*really21:42
codepalguntbert, thanks for your help21:42
codepalyou don't by chance any clues on how to use bluetooth dongle's?21:43
codepalI tried yesterday to get one to work....21:43
guntbertcodepal: no problem :)  - as for a dongle - sorry, no21:43
codepalspent most of the day installing this, trying that - all with no success21:43
codepalseems to me that lubuntu doesn't create a new users skeleton folder & files properly for X login21:45
codepalwill cp -R my user & chmod & chown to see if that fixes it...21:45
guntbertcodepal: that depends on the content of /etc/skeleton21:45
codepalI have a /etc/ske/ -- & only .bash_logout .bashrc .profile21:47
codepalin lubuntu 11.1021:47
codepalupgraded from lubuntu 11.0421:47
codepals#/etc/ske/#/etc/skel/#21:47
guntbertcodepal: right, its skel21:48
codepalno basic folders like Documents, Music etc21:49
codepalis there some script that runs the setup of all those?21:49
guntbertcodepal: no idea, sorry, but when I create a new user through the ubuntu system they have those folders, while add-user doesn't create them21:52
codepalwell for some reason, when I used the User Settings interface and asked for automatic login (it was an option)21:53
codepalit hasn't created nada21:53
codepalso I guess it shouldn't let me do that21:53
codepalah, I see21:54
codepalall the users are set as Custom types21:54
codepalinstead of Desktop21:54
codepalhrmph -- the panel didn't even want to set the users passwords (by hand) - had to use passwd22:00
